everybody
welcome
to
the
demo
of
our
product
at
the
consensus,
2018
hyper
ledger
booth.
My
name
is
Tobias
cars,
I
am
the
vp
of
product
for
scan
trust,
and
today,
I
will
present
to
you
the
the
solution
that
we
built
for
cambio,
the
coffee
company.
That's
focused
on
sustainable,
ethically
sourced
coffee.
A
A
When
we
say
secure
identifiers
z',
we
mean
QR
codes
that
have
an
embedded,
secure
graphic
in
them.
This
is
an
invention
patented
by
scan
trust
and
it
it
uses
a
special
printing
technology
in
the
center
of
a
regular
QR
code
which
which
degrades
when
it's,
when
it's
copied
and
can
be
detected
with
a
mobile
device.
So
in
that
sense
it's
secure
in
the
same
way
as
an
NFC
chip
is
secure
and
protects
products
from
from
counterfeiting
as
well.
A
However,
the
QR
code
that
you
see
here
is
is
also
supported
by
regular
QR
code,
readers
such
as
the
iPhone
or
or
any
of
the
other
Android
QR
code,
readers
that
are
that
are
out
there
so
come
your
coffee
has
already
mentioned.
Deliver.
Sustainable
coffee
has
been
doing
that
in
China,
since
2014
they
source
from
South
America
Peru,
mainly
as
well
as
from
Yunnan.
They
roast
our
blends
in
Shanghai
about
an
annual
volume
of
about
150,000
packs.

That
was
the
number
for
2017,
obviously,
for
this
year,
that
that
number
will
increase
and
to
expand
globally
they've
partnered
with
scan
trust
to
prepare
for
sales
in
other
countries,
and
that's
that's
scheduled
to
start
at
at
q4
of
2018.
So
what
we
did
for
cambios,
we
apply
the
label.
As
you
see
here
on
the
right,
it's
styled
and
branded
according
to
the
cambio
image,
it
has
our
secured
QR
code
on
it,
as
well
as
the
serial
number
that
you
see
printed
at
the
bottom.
In
case
the
code
code
gets
damaged.
A
You
can
also
look
up
this
data
using
using
just
a
lookup
screen.
So
for
this
solution
we
partnered
with
hyper
ledger
Sawtooth,
so
scanned
rows
has
already
been
providing
secure,
track
and
trace
solutions,
and
we
have
a
very
deep
supply
chain
know-how.
So,
together
with
our
secure
QR
code
and
our
IP,
we've,
we've
built
an
interoperable
science
platform
that
is
used
by
many
companies
globally
and
we
are
in
effect
driving
digitization,
so
providing
these
unique
identifiers
on
products.

is
new
with
this
project
is
that
we
connected
this
to
hyper
ledger
Sawtooth,
which
provides
high,
scalability
and
then
availability
distributed,
ledger
technology
and
also
is
supported
by
a
great
community,
so
the
workflow
that
we've
implemented.
As
you
can
see
here,
it
starts
on
your
left-hand
side,
with
the
first
step
where
the
scan
dress
code,
engine
Minster
codes
means
the
the
the
the
product
identifiers
and
puts
them
on
the
blockchain.

However,
the
different
actors,
the
upstream
actors,
such
as
the
farm
cooperative,
the
shipper
and
the
roaster
they
provide
their
supply
team
data
independently
of
these
codes,
so
they
supply
this
data
on
episode,
2,
frog
from
farm
all
the
way
through
harvest
through
certification
of
the
of
the
of
the
sights
to
shipment
to
roasting
and
to
do
eventually
scanning.
So
when
the
scans
happen
in
the
scan,
trust
engine
that
front
end
will
then
forward
the
requests
and
do
a
track
request
to
the
hyper
ledger.

So
the
way
we
configured
it
was
using
three
nodes:
sawtooth
cluster.
It
was
provisioned
with
terraform,
we
descripted
the
deployment,
and
each
of
these
nodes
runs
basically
a
coffee
chain,
python
transaction
processor
that
we've
we've
written
using
proto
before
massive
massive
serialization
and
basically
creates
one
magic
message
per
object,
be
it
harvest
or
certification
or
other
stuff.
We
built
this
also
into
the
Django
rest
framework
API,
so
that
API
takes
the
batches
and
and
transactions
commands.

Translate
them
translates
the
the
IDs
that
we
get
back
from
sawtooth
into
into
human
readable,
addresses
and
also
aggregates
the
data
for
the
smart
label.

Also,
we
use
these
contrast,
comm
API,
which
is
which
combines
the
nutrition
information
which
we
stored
based
on
the
product
itself,
so
not
the
individual
codes,
but
the
the
the
SKU
and
combines
nutritional
information
with
the
blockchain
information.

for
the
demo,
you
can
see
that
there
is
a
label
on
the
left,
physical
label
that
was
printed
by
one
of
our
one
of
our
printing
partners
that
was
applied
to
the
product.
The
first
step
is
that
you
will
land
on
the
combi
Oh
coffee,
landing
page,
the
smart
label
landing
page
and
that
will
show
you
the
the
logo,
as
well
as
the
name
of
the
the
product
and
the
weight
and
the
serial
number
and
a
my
clicking
on
one
of
these
tabs
nutrition,
the
nutrition,
the
ingredients,
the
allergens
tab.

It
will
load
up
the
specific
information
for
that
for
that
tab.
So
the
the
block
chain
data
is
actually
only
shown
in
the
track
and
trace
tab,
so
nutrition
ingredients,
allergens
more
info-
are
all
related
to
generic
product
information.
But
when
you
go
to
the
track
and
trace
tab,
you
will
see
the
product
journey
as
well
as
all
the
data.
That's
that's
been
that's
been
stored
on
the
block
chain,
such
as
the
the
harvest
details,
the
exact
address
where
the
the
the
coffee
was
harvested,
both
in
Peru
and
Yunnan.

shipment
details
on
when
the
goods
were
shipped
to
to
hong
kong
and
when
they
arrived
at
customs,
the
the
certificates
of
the
farm,
as
as
far
as
they
comply
to
eco
certification
and
bird-friendly,
certifications
and
then
last
but
not
least,
the
actual
roasting
date
and
and
where
the
product
ended
up
in
the
hands
of
the
consumer.
I
will
show
you
a
short
video
afterwards
of
this
live
demo.
So
the
lessons
we
learned
during
this
implementation
was
that
I
per
letters-
let
you
sort
tooth,
is
extremely
fast.
It's.
A
It
is
way
way
faster
than
the
other
blocking
technology
that
we've
that
we've
tested.
It's
really
optimized
for
speed.
It
has
a
very
robust
transactions
model
and
on
top
of
that
also
a
very
flexible
data
storage
module.
So
it's
easy
to
to
create
transactions
and
store
associated
data
with
the
transaction.

It's
very
simple:
to
write
a
transaction
processor.
We
did
it
in
a
matter
of
weeks
without
any
prior
knowledge
of
Sawtooth.
We
did
spend
significant
time
on
on
learning
about
the
infrastructure,
but
once
we
learned
that
the
actual
implementation
was
was
quite
smooth,
so
it
also
has
great
docker
support
which
really
helped
us
in
provisioning
and
getting
the
system
setup
and
lad.
Last
but
not
least,
it
has
a
great
community.
We
reached
out
with
some
questions
and
got
very
good
answers
very
quickly.

were
very
supportive,
as
with
any
open
source
project
there,
there
are
some
some
some
learnings.
Also.
It
was
quite
disappointing
to
see
that
there
was
no
Explorer
support,
so
that
meant
that
we
had
to
do
everything
from
the
command
line
and
also
for
demo
purposes.
It
wasn't
as
easy
as
we
wished
to
show
to
people
what
was
actually
happening
in
the
blockchain,
without
showing
them
a
lot
of
cryptic
messages
on
the
screen,
etc.
So
I
would
say,
having
having
some
type
of
Explorer
support
would
be
really
nice.
A
We
also
were
frustrated
in
the
beginning
by
having
limited
feedback
on
failures.
As
I
mentioned,
the
learning
curve
was
a
bit
steep
so
trying
to
get
everything
set
up
and,
of
course,
in
the
beginning,
having
things
fail
meant
that
we
had
to
go
through
a
lot
of
long
hacks,
IDs,
very
opaque
in
the
logs,
not
very
human
readable.
So
we
think
that
there
is
there's
some
room
for
improvement
there.
We
also
found
that
the
setup
and
configuration
was
a
little
bit
delicate.

So
once
once
we
got
the
nodes
up
and
running,
everything
was
fine,
but
getting
nodes
to
to
join
the
the
node
pool
meant
we
had
to
set
up
manual,
clearing
and
I'm
pretty
sure
that
can
be
automated.
However,
we
didn't
find
a
good
way
of
doing
that
so,
as
we
only
had
three
nodes,
that
was
fine
but
I.
Think
for
the
future,
it
might
be,
might
be
good
to
have
some
type
of
provisioning
scripts.
For
that
to
do
that,
so
sawtooth
is
an
infrastructure.
I
think
that's
really
the
best
way
to
describe
it.
A
It's
a
great
infrastructure,
but
it
has
a
steep
learning
curve.
You
get
to
design
your
own
protocol,
which
is
a
big
which
is
a
big
plus.
It
gives
you
a
lot
of
flexibility
and
freedom,
but
the
block,
storage,
laxmi
metadata
and
that
can
be
frustrating
at
times.
If
you
don't
know
exactly
what
you're
doing
and
exactly
what
you're
storing
it
can
be
a
little
bit
frustrating
but
overall
I
have
to
say
that
developers
had
a
great
time
designing
and
building
this.

so,
overall,
it
was
a
very,
very
positive
experience
and
we'll
we
will
definitely
continue
with
sawtooth
further
down
the
line
and
and
see
where,
where
the
infrastructure
develops
further
all
right.
