13 Jul 2023

A presentation of the Hyperledger Telecom Special Interest Group on July 13, 2023 featuring Moshe Shadmon, Founder and CEO at AnyLog. Moshe discusses how they are using Hyperledger Fabric and shows a demo.

AnyLog is a software agent deployed on edge nodes. These nodes become members of a decentralized, self-managed and secure network that is optimized to manage distributed edge data and resources - using virtualization, applications extract real time insight from data distributed at the edge without centralizing the data. In addition, AnyLog manages and monitors all the distributed edge resources as if they are a single machine.

Hyperledger Fabric serves as a shared metadata layer allowing all the nodes of the network to process data as a single unified machine. The shared metadata is organized on Hyperledger Fabric in the form of policies that determine how nodes operate. Some examples: 1) Very similar to an optimizer in a DBMS that determines, per query, which indexes to use, nodes register policies describing the data that they store, such that when a query is issued, the policies determine the nodes that participate in the query process. 2) When a new schema is created, it is registered as a policy on the blockchain such that all the nodes processing the same type of data will use the same schema. 3) Messages are signed by the sender’s private key. To process a message, the processing node will use the sender’s policy to retrieve the sender’s public key and authenticate the sender. Using permissions policies, the processing node validates the sender’s permissions.

9 Feb 2023

A presentation hosted by the Hyperledger Telecom Special Interest Group on February 9, 2023 featuring Dr. Alexandros Psychas, Technical Coordination at Pledger and Nikolaos Kapsoulis, Blockchain Governance at Pledger. They are presenting the Telecom SIG White Paper Self-Assessing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with Hyperledger Fabric. That can be found at:

https://www.hyperledger.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/HL_SolutionsBrief_SLAs_120922.pdf

The white paper describes a prototype approach for the self-assessment of SLAs on a Telecom industry perspective. Standard SLA assessment grants the control of SLA guarantees monitoring and computation over to the providers of the service. The business intelligence of the proposed solution aims in creating a fairer way of assessing SLAs in the broader Web3.0 Ecosystem by making use of the Hyperledger Fabric distributed ledger software hosting Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs).

25 Aug 2022

A presentation at the Hyperledger Telecom Special Interest Group on August 25, 2022 featuring Madhusanka Liyanage and Tharaka Hewa discussing Blockchain-based Secured and Federated Slice Broker (SFSBroker) for 5G Networks.

In this talk, they introduce the Secured and Federated Slice Broker (SFSBroker) which is designed to enable secure federated slicing for 5G Networks. This blockchain-based NS brokering frameworks aim to ideally cater for the scalable and shorter time-to-market deployment of NS in future networks. The smart contracts are running on top of blockchain decentralize and scale up the entire capacity of NS brokering. In this talk, we introduce the components and mechanisms of proposed SFSBroker and how it can be integrated in the 5G network architecture. We will also demonstrate implementation of proposed SFSBroker using Hyperledger Fabric blockchain platform with the incorporation of Java programming language based smart contracts for encoding the underlying algorithms to ensure secured selection of network slices.

7 Apr 2022

A guest presentation at the Hyperledger Telecom Special Interest Group on April 7, 2022 featuring Francesc Wilhelmi Roca, Postdoctoral researcher at CTTC speaking about the Integration of blockchain and O-RAN to enable the Network-as-a-Service paradigm in Beyond 5G.

Resource sharing is expected to boost economic sustainability Beyond 5G (B5G) networks thanks to the introduction of trends like network virtualization and network slicing. However, enablers for truly shifting to an economy of sharing remain unexplored. In particular, resource sharing is currently tied to slow bureaucratic procedures (relying on trusted third parties) that lack the flexibility to provide ready-to-deploy functionalities and incur high operational costs. In this regard, blockchain technology emerges as a promising solution to replace traditional trust with programmable and scientific trust. Such a programmable trust will enable economically-driven management of the network, based on automatic transactions and self-executing smart contracts, where network providers operate from the cloud, to trade resources, as-a-service. To favor the integration of blockchain technologies into next-generation virtualized networks, we propose extending the baseline O-RAN architecture by introducing the programmable trust concept. The adoption of blockchain technology is expected to foster trustworthiness, automation, and an economically driven management of next-generation networks.

2 Dec 2021

A presentation at the Hyperledger Telecom Special Interest Group on December 2, 2021. The discussion was about a project that builds an MVP for automating the drafting and negotiation processes for Telecom roaming agreements using Hyperledger Fabric. In the first phase the project addressed how to use NLP to extract main features from a number of telecom agreements drafts. Specifically, creating a model that represents the text of the roaming agreement into standard clause text, variables, text variation and custom text. The second phase addressed building the chaincode and the backend and frontend pieces of the MVP to show a simple demo of how this can work.

8 Apr 2021

A presentation of the Telecom Special Interest Group on April 8, 2021 with the GSMA. The GSMA-DLT shared industry vision evolves around the key tenet that Distributed Ledger Technology or DLT cannot be assumed as siloed and certainly involves other business technology enablers. 80% of the discussions must be business focus and 20% technology focused. The ecosystem is multi-stakeholder in nature including Opcos, Wholesale Carriers, Banks, Mobile Players/Enterprise and Policy Makers. This presentation emphasizes DLT opportunities for the Telecom Industry and provides a clear roadmap for moving from POCs to commercialization with demonstrable proof points to maximize impacts for some key use cases.
