From YouTube: IETF Hackathon: TLS
Description
TLS, the technology that secures web connections, was a project at the IETF Hackathon held in Chicago March 2017. Nick Sullivan talks about how websites, Internet of Things implementers, and web browser implementers came together to test the latest version of TLS (1.3) under development and possibly identify improvements to the protocol before it is finalized.

A
If
you
see
a
lock
icon
on
your
browser,
that's
protected
by
TLS
here
at
the
working
group,
we've
been
working
on
the
latest
version
of
the
protocol
called
TLS
1.3
and
at
the
IETF
hackathon,
we've
collected
a
bunch
of
different
implementers
from
browser
implementers
to
Internet
of
Things
implementers
to
websites
to
get
them
to
come
together
and
interoperate
and
test
the
new
version
of
the
protocol
and
make
sure
that
it's
not
only
secure
but
fast.
Now
this
has
a
big
impact
on
basically
everybody
on
the
world
who
uses
the
web.

If
you
are
checking
your
email
with
Gmail
in
the
future,
we
will
use
TLS
1.3.
So
what
the
hackathon
helped
us
do
is
make
sure
that
all
the
implementations
we
have
are
secure,
that
they
fit
the
specification
and
that
any
bugs
or
problems
that
we
would
see
down
the
road
we
would
catch
early
before
the
specification
is
finalized.
