Welcome in this video, you will learn how to try out a pub sub or publish subscribe system. With an ipfs note, pub sub is a peer-to-peer messaging system. You can use to publish messages out to other peers who are listening or subscribe to a given topic.

Systems like this can be used to build a variety of applications on a peer-to-peer network such as a messaging or file sharing system.

Under the hood ipfs pub sub uses the lib p2p gossip sub-routing algorithm to build and communicate over a mesh network to test this out, get together with some friends. The first thing each of you will need to do is start an ipfs node with the enable pub sub experiment flag.

All right, once both of you started a node, you should each subscribe to the same topic using the command ipfs pub sub sub. With the name of the topic you want to subscribe to.

What's the topic name today, let's.

um No, we don't, I know subway, but I don't know. What's a sub sandwich.

Now that you both are subscribed to the same topic, one of you can send a message using the command ipfs pub sub pub with the same topic name.

Yes, I'm going to send a message, so I'll type enter to start my message and say log in z, then type enter again and control d and there it is you work on my computer.

And I got it right away from the laurent when doing this, you might want to set up your node and let it run for a little bit to make sure that your peers have time to connect to learn more about what you can do with pub sub on ipfs check out the go rpfs repo under the documentation for pub sub.

There are a few different flags that you can use in order to do different things with pubs.
