Con Gateway operator enables the user to express both a simple single Gateway deployments for light use cases or complete multi-gateaway deployment for the web scale, and let me show you how.

Hi I'm Victor gamer, with kwonk in this video using live demonstration. I'll show you advantages of operator pattern for managing complex application like API, Gateway installation I'll, show you how to install Quant Gateway operator how to enable HTTP routes which part of kubernetes Gateway API, and how to use quonk Gateway operator automation features to perform upgrades in rollback, so, let's get to it. I have already prepared kubernetes cluster.

That has a few notes that deployed my cluster as always a little bit over proficient, but you can use a smaller cluster to run your workload before we jump right in into installation of conch operator itself. We need to install some of the dependencies that clunk operator requires.

First of all, we need to install a kubernetes Ingress controller crds, that is the custom resource definition for some of the Conch objects, including concres in other other things, and another thing is that we need to install a crds for Gateway API as of right now, kubernetes Gateway API is still in beta mode, meaning that some of the crds might not be available in your kubernetes cluster. We need to install those manually at the time of recording this video kubernetes Gateway API crds still are in the better mode.

It might not be available as a party of kubernetes installation, so we need to install this as a prerequisite to install Chrome Gateway operator. So let's do this so first thing that I'm installing Kong crds that will include the con consumer and grass plugin TCP Ingress and UDP Ingress next I install a Gateway API CR, this version 505 and after that I will be able to install coolant Gateway operator.

We will allow to this deployment to stabilize so we can get access to All, Things Gateway.

So installation is completed so I need to check if I have everything that I need so I'm. Switching back to my K9s application go into Chrome system, namespace and I see that there's multiple things here installed: quonk Gateway operator controller. That's the component that will be responsible for creating instances of go on Gateway. So next, let's install our first gateway.

So first thing that we need to enable Quantum Gateway class. So we will install this Gateway class.

And we need to enable actual Gateway, so in this case we will have a listener for port 8080, so install.

And next thing is that we can do.

We can find a Gateway object that is available to all name spaces and reduce dual Gateway when I go to default. Namespace and I will try to list all gateways that available. I can see that I have a Gateway with name of quonk of class of Quant and now I have external IP address for this Gateway. So let's copy this IP address and switch to insomnia and try to reach this application.

So when I send this request, I see the familiar message that comes from con Gateway 2.8.1 and there are no routes matches to those values. So we can easily fix that by installing our application and installing HTTP route for this application. So let's do this.

Traditionally, my application is My Back to Future example that has a resting point that speeds out the quotes from Back to Future movies. So I will go ahead and install this.

I create this deployment, and next thing is that I also need to provide HTTP route by hostname, so I want this service will be available through back to future.com Builders URL. So let me do this. Thank you.

Now, if I switch to my insomnia and I will provide header, that host would be Back to Future I. Get a response from my service. I see that this is the quote from Back to Future. This is the definitely Back to Future quote, because we mentioned this smart multiply here. A few more calls and I also see that response comes from Quant Gateway. Now you have installed con Gateway operator, you have a bunch of gateways and you have a HTTP route that allows to traffic fly into your application.

So next thing: let's try to do upgrade for this installation and we will run latest and greatest version of quad. So in order to um to show you that the application will continue to serve our response, we will start submitting requests every two seconds.

Next thing, in order to um in order to do upgrade, I need to provide configuration for my Gateway and, in this case I'm using this configuration that tells me to use kubernetes and grass controller 2.7, which is our control plane and our data plane will be using Quant 3.0.

Also, we need to mention this configuration in our Gateway class that this Gateway class will be depend on this Gateway configuration. So if I go here and find this kind Gateway configuration and with name Quant, this is exactly the same that we have in here kind Gateway, configuration and metadata name namespace. uh So let's do this.

So I configured my Gateway in a few seconds. We can check our headers and we're running Quant Gateway 3.0 without downtime without restarts, and everything like this as of today, Con Gateway operator available, is technical preview.
