This PnP community demo is taken from the monthly SharePoint Developer/Engineering update community call recorded on November 12, 2019. In this 40-minute video, Melissa Torres - Microsoft Program Manager for SharePoint Internet Architecture, Site Design and Experiences, explains and demonstrates the latest capabilities of SharePoint hub sites recently announced at Microsoft Ignite 2019.

think
about
your
intranet
architecture
with
hubs
I'm
also
responsible
for
site,
designs
and
I,
also
own
some
other
experiences
like
site
creation,
and
what
we
cannot
consider
the
site's
Chrome,
so
very
excited
to
talk
to
you
guys
today,
I'll
be
delving
deep
into
what's
new
from
SharePoint
hubs,
as
well
as
some
of
the
site
designs
stuff.

lot
of
what
I'm
going
to
be
covered
actually
got
announced
last
week
at
ignite.
So
if
you
guys
were
there,
you
should
this
will
sound
familiar,
although
I'm
excited
for
some
conversation
and
I
can
go
into
a
little
bit
more
details
than
what
I
could
have
it
and
at
ignite
I'm
so
excited
to
share
with
that.
With
all
of
you.
So
I
start
first
with
SharePoint
hubs,
I
always
buy
now.
I
assume
most
people
know
what
they
are,
but
just
in
case
you
know,
it's
always
gets
a
level
set.

So
SharePoint
hopes
is
how
we
organize
your
intranet.
How
we
recommend
you
organize
your
intranet,
it
gives
you
the
capability
of
organizing
sites
together
related
sites
together,
either,
whichever
which
way
you
want
with
it,
whether
it's
by
department
or
business
unit
or
division
or
location
subsidiary.
It's
really
flexible,
so
you
for
whatever
works
best
for
your
organization,
because
we
see
it's
spread
the
gamut.

It's
it's
basically
a
tool
that
lets
you
do
that
and
then,
once
you
bring
these
related
sites
together
and
by
the
way
it
works
on
team
sites
and
it
works
on
communication
sites
and
I
get
this
question
a
lot.
You
can
also
join
classic
sites
hubs
as
well,
but
you
just
don't
get
all
the
benefits
of
them
and
I
can
talk
about
that
more
in
detail,
but
it
they're
really
that
the
are
the
high
level
concept.

Is
it's
about
bringing
sites
together
and
when
you
do
you
get
it
cut
out
all
the
features
you
see
your
listed
here
you
get
from
roll
up
of
news
and
events
and
site
activity
which
are
very
excited
about
to
search
across
related
sites.
If
you
think
about
it,
you
know
search
historically,
either
spans
your
entire
SharePoint
or
your
specific
site.

Right
now.
We're
excited
that
with
hubs
which
searches
across
only
that
set
of
sites
that
are
attached
to
a
hub,
it
enables
cross
site
navigations.
With
top
customer
asked,
and
we
announced
last
week
that
we
will
be
supporting
audience
targeting
and
I'll
show
you
in
a
little
bit
how
you
set
that
up
a
consistent,
look
and
feel
with
theming
coming
across
all
the
sites.
So
it
really
really
feel
like
part
of
a
family
common
ia
with
site
design.
So
I'll
talk
about
that
a
little
bit
better
and
again
announced
that
ignite.

We're
doing
some
permissions
I'm
like
making
it
easier
for
hub
owners
to
manage
permissions
across
the
hub
and
I'll
be
demoing
it
as
well
as
hub
analytics.
You
can
also
create
sites
from
hub.
So
if
you
want
to
empower
your
site
users
to
be
able
to
create
new
sites
and
automatically
put
them
in
the
right
place
right
in
the
right
organization,
you
can
point
that
point
to
them
to
have
them,
create
it
through
two
new
hubs
and
we
are
in
the
middle
of
shipping,
which
I'm
very
excited
about
I.
A
Think
now,
who
ruled
out
to
10%
of
POD
hub
join
approvals.
And
so,
if
you
want
to
control
you
know
you
can
not
only
scope
hubs.
It's
only
a
select
set
of
people
that
you
pick
can
join
a
hub,
but
now
you
can
also
set
up
an
approval
process
using
flow
so
that
you
can
even
provide
more
finer
control
over
what
sites
get
attached
to
the
hub,
which
I
think
is
pretty
cool
and,
as
always,
we've
always
said
it.
Hubs
are
created
by
SharePoint
administrators
or
global
administrators.

That's
a
very
intentional
decision
that
we
made
to
make
sure
that
you
know
really
sure
and
administrators
are
in
the
right
frame
of
mind
to
think
about
how
they
want
to
organize
their
intranet
all
up,
and
so
we
continue
to
provide
that.
But
site
owners
are
the
ones
that
are
docked
by
adjoining
sites
to
hub
or
creating
sites
directly
from
the
hub
and
I'm
sure
that
you've
probably
heard
we
also
talked
about
associated
hubs,
which
is
this
ability
to
organize
hubs
together
and
I'll.

Be
talking
about
that
so
breaking
into
the
specific
new
stuff
that
we
announced
that
ignite,
that
I
kind
of
want
to
give
you
guys
a
cool
of
all
the
stuff
that
we
have
it
kind
of
breaks
down
into
four
things.
I
have
three
of
them
listed
here,
but
one
of
the
things
that
we're
adding,
which
I
think
I
heard
from
a
lot
of
customers.
That
was
something
that
was
really
missing
from
current
hubs.
Is
this
idea
idea
of
centralizing
permissions
now
this
one
of
the
things
I
want
to
state
about?
This?

Is
that
when
we've
initially
rolled
out
hubs,
we
actually
celebrate
and
still
do
by
the
way,
the
individuality
of
each
site
having
its
own
permissions.
So
it's
actually
a
great
model
and
we're
keeping
that
completely
in
place,
and
so
it
meant
there
are
many
hubs
where
you
do
not
need
the
need
to
centralize
permissions
and
that
isn't
totally
fine
and
totally
works.
This
is
more,
for
this
particular
feature
is
targeted
for
more
these
scenarios.

So
it's
something
that
you'll
have
to
opt-in
into
and
sign
owners
can
at
any
time
opt
in
and
out,
but
instead
of
me
talking
about
it,
however,
I
show
it.
So,
let's
jump
into
a
cool
demo
here
so
here,
I
am

a
sales
hub
should
be
familiar
for
those
of
you
who
are
watching
or
at
ignite
and
the
way
this
will
work
is
just
when
you
go
to
site
permissions.

already
gotten
asked
to
support
owners,
in
particular
this
idea
of
a
hub
owner
that
is
an
owner
on
all
the
Associated
sites
and
that's
definitely
something
that
we're
considering,
but
initially
we're
gonna
start
with
visitors
when
we
initially
roll
out
so
really
quickly.
Here,
you
kind
of
set
this
up
turn
on
the
toggle
and
then
set
the
groups,
and
you
have
this
people
pker.

can
always
remove
if
you
need
to
and
it
automatically
save,
and
so
what
that
does
is
when
I
switch
over
to
this
a
site
that
I'm
ready
to
join
to
the
hub
and
I
click
here.
Site
information
take
sales
there.
It
is
you
immediately
see
that
I
get
this
option
to
sync
hub
permissions
to
the
site:
I
can
opt
out
if
I,
you
know
if
this
is
a
top-secret
project
or
if
I
really
want
to
keep
control
over,
who
asked
permission
on
my
site
and
I.
Don't
want
to
get
anything
from
the
hub.

I
can
totally
opt
out.
This
is
our
promise
to
make
it
easy
for
people
to
retain
their
own
kind
of
site
permissions.
But
if
I
actually
want
to
share
this
with
the
rest
of
my
organization
and
make
it
easier
to
find
in
search
and
roll-ups
and
all
that
good
stuff
right.
Because
that's
part
of
the
reason
we're
trying
to
help
here
make
sure
that
when
you
join
your
site
to
the
hub,
you
make
that
decision
to
have
your
stuff
roll
up
to
the
at
the
hub
level.

And
immediately
you
you'll
now
notice
you
get
the
the
hub
nav
the
theming.
This
was
already
green,
but
you
get
the
hub
nav
and
then
you
get
the
site
design
applying
which
we'll
talk
about
a
little
bit
later.
But
if
I
go
open
here,
site
permissions
same
place,
that's
before
because
we
come
in
are
adding
this
to
the
current
site.
Permissions
UI,
you
see.

So
if
you,
you
know,
choose
to
share
and
take
it
back
for
whatever
reason
or
decide
that
the
site's
turning
to
be
something
more
private
and
you
no
longer
feel
comfortable
sharing
it
with
the
rest
of
the
hub.
It's
really
easy
for
you
to
turn
it
off,
and
at
that
point
you
can
continue
to
manage
your
permissions
at
the
site
level
and
not
with
the
hub.

Another
question
that
I
got
was:
let
me
go
back
and
join
this.
What
happens
if
you
see
and
it's
it's
back
there,
what
happens
if
you
leave
the
hub
missions,
get
cleaned
up,
so
here's
here's
this
site
and
I
just
wanted
to
show
that
this
one's
also
believes
thinking
permissions
yeah,
oh
and
you'll
notice
that
this
is
showing
sales.
So
the
way
that
this
mechanism
will
work
is
very
similar
to
the
how
theming
comes
down
and
how
nav
notes
come
down.
So
for
those
of
you
who've
been
using
hubs,
you've
know
it.

You
probably
notice
that
there
is
or
familiar
with
the
fact
that
when
you
make
a
change
at
the
hub,
it
takes
a
couple
of
hours
for
it
to
reflect
everywhere
and
that'll.
Be
true
of
this
as
well.
We
do
it
a
little
bit
more
aggressively
than
we
do
for
theming,
and
we
do
for
enough
because
of
the
urgency.
That
is
something
like
permissions,
but
within
a
couple
of
hours
and
I'm
talking
about
two
hours
and
by
the
way
we're
still
kind
of
testing
that
the
the
permissions
should
be
reflected.

then
I
would
go
here
and
see
that
sales
would
no
longer
show
up
so
going
back
to
the
to
the
question.
If
you
what
happens
when
you
leave
a
hub,
so
here's
a
site,
that's
joined
to
the
hub
and
like
I,
was
showing
it's
sharing
permissions
from
the
hub,
so
it's
showing
these
two
and
then
I
can
easily
go
to
site
information.

that's
in
essence,
how
I
permission
how
permissions
will
work
so
again,
really
trying
goal
here
really
trying
to
make
it
easy
for
hub
owners
to
help
site
owners
get
permissions
consistently
across
any
number
we're
starting.
First
with
visitors,
it's
an
opt-in
model,
so
people
can
opt-in
or
opt-out
as
needed,
really
much
adapting
to
the
previous
model
for
hubs
where
they
get
site.
Owners
can
choose
to
join
and
unjoin,
so
we're
following
the
footsteps
from
there
so
yeah.

right
now
the
only
thing
that
forces
the
sync
is
like
the
act
of
joining
and
on
joining.
So
if
you
really
want
to
fetch
the
latest
you
can
you
can
or
either
join
or
unjoin

hub

turn
and
turn
the
toggle
on
or
off
to
force
the
sync,
but
that's
a
separate,
API
or
control.

that.

look
up
the
list

associated
sites

see

you

syncing

hubs
and
which

permissions

not
when
we
initially
release,
we
probably
won't
have
that,
but
definitely
an
improvement

do.

was
just
talking
yesterday
to
the
admin
Center
folks
about
how
we
would
you
know.

Would
we
want
to
surface
some
of
this
goodness
up
in
the
admin
center,
where
you
already
in
the
admin
UI,
you
can
actually
see
filter
your
sites
by
a
hub
and
see
all
the
sites
that
are
joined
to
the
hub.
Would
this
be
a
property
that
would
show
up
there?
So
those
are
the
things
where
we're
starting
to
think
about,
but
initially
on
release.
We
won't
have
that
capability
and.

Then
there
was
a
test,
a
related
on
the
option
of
disabling
the
the
sink,
and
there
was
a
cute
comment
actually
from
Oliver
sizer
and
from
Monday
coffee
related
on.
Could
we
add
a
support
for
disabling
the
theme
sink
as
well,
so
in
certain
scenarios
that
might
be
useful
to
good
feedback
for
you
at
least
yeah.

themes
think
totally
valid.
Ask
I've
gotten
that
multiple
times
it's
a
little
bit
more
complicated
that
we
would
like,
because
when
we
think
about
it
and
just
give
me
probably
giving
you
more
information
that
you
guys
are
asking
for
both
share
it
anyway.
We
we've
been
talking
about
this
idea
that
if
we
disable
the
theme
at
least
the
hub
navigation
at
the
top,
should
retain
the
theme
from
the
hub
to
ensure
that
it's
still
part
of
the
family.
But
that
is
a
little
bit
of
a
more
work
that
we
would
like.

a
really
good
question
from
Stephan,
actually
I
answered
that,
but
then
I
realized
that
actually
I
answered
that
from
slightly
in
the
wrong
way,
because
the
Stephan
I
had
a
question
of
will
the
permissions
synced
only
to
crew
/,
connected
side
or
communication
sites,
because
group
associated
team
sites
only
have
a
support
for
a
certain
set
of
groups,
and
then
communication
sites
have
an
unlimited
support
of
permissions.
So
is
there
any
any
limitations
related
on
permission,
syncing,
chesticles.

Yeah
great
question
so
I
would
say
this
is
solely
on
the
SharePoint
side
of
permissions
that
we
are
doing
this
on.
So,
if
you're
using
you
can
use
a
modern
group
at
the
to
push
down
permissions,
but
it's
not
like
like
if
your
Associated
site
is
that
is
a
teen
site.
As
an
example,
that's
group
connected
we're
not
adding
those
people
to
that
modern
group.

completely
separate
we're
just
adding
them
we're
just
curating
permissions
to
the
site
container,
if
that
makes
sense
yeah,
so
it
works,
but
at
the
end
of
the
day
it
works
across
both
site
type,
so
it
works
on
Comm
sites
and

works

team
sites
with
teen
sites.
It's
that
caveat
that
doing
this
will
not
grant
access
to
the
to
the
group
resources.

just
granting
access
to
the
site
itself

managed
my
hub

sites

regional
sites
and
I
need
to
get
an
understanding
of
how
all
my
sites
are
doing
and
so
hub
analytics
was
born
out
of
meeting
that
need,

so
what

you
do
is
at
the
hub
level.
You
will
get
what
we
call
an
aggregated
view
of
who
you're
you
know
of
counts.
Around
unique
viewers
counts
on
visits,
and
so
that
way,
your
not
only
looking
at
one
site,
you'll
have
a
switcher
here,
so
you'll
be
able
to
consist
ill
switch,
which
is
important
between
your
hub
site
and
the
rest
of
your
hub.
So
that
way,
you'll
you'll
still
retain
your
hub
site
details.
If
you
only
care
about
what
you
know,
the
traffic
or
details
of
what's
happening
on
your
website,
that'll
still
remain
intact.

get
this
additional
capability
of
seeing
not
only
what's
important
on
the
hub
site,
but
what's
important
across

it'll
contain
total
viewers,
as
well
as
total
views
and
then,
as
you
scroll
down,
it
won't
have
site
traffic

that's

specific
to
you
know
a
current
site
or
popular
platforms,
but
it
will
have
content
like
most
popular
content
across
your
hub
and
that
will
include
things
like
news,
which
I
think
is
super
cool.

be
able

see
news.

and
another
thing
that
I'm
very
passionate

is
popular
sites.
So
you'll
be
able
to
see
you

out
of
all
the
sites
that
are
joined
to

hub,
which
ones
are

most

viewers
or
visit

views.

you
can
take
action
to
say
hey,
you
know
if
you
have
a
culture,
let's
call
like
that.

connected
to
your
hub
and
there's
not
a
lot
of
traffic
there.

promote

homepage,

prominence,
maybe
send

post

its

people
are
not
finding
it
or
it's
not
getting
enough.

that
insights
into
what's
happening
across
your
hub
that
this
is
where
we're
starting
with
definitely
more
things.

would
say
it's

similar

site
usage
was
born,
where
we
started
with
very
simple
graphics
and
insights,
and
then
we've
continued
to
grow.

you

we've
continued
to

popular
platforms
and
insights
on
what
time
you're
sorta
it's
being
used
for
they're.
Also,
adding
for
site
analytics
an
ability
for
you
to
download
into
Excel
like
the
data.

you
want
to
like
keep
history
of
it
or
actually,
you
know
mind
mode
to
meet
your
needs.
You'll
have
a
download
option
for
hub
analytics.

won't
be
there
on
day
one
yet.
But
this

right

always

choose

not

control
to
be
able

hide
the
name
and
navigation.

what
this
will
do
is

little
label

feedback

for
those
organizations

have
that
you'll

branding

feature

we

editing,
navigation,
there
will
be
a
switch.

but
that's
a
matter,

quickly

then
you

actually
see
what

real
user
would

those
cases

excited.

top

customer
requests.

rolled
out

step

that

it

navigation,
and
even
though
I'm
highlighting
here
in
the
hub
navigation,
because
you

I'm
all
about
hubs,
it
actually
works
also
on
Associated
sites,
and
it
also
works
on
the
site
like
the
local
site
nav,
as
well
as
the
footer
on
communications.

need

organization

establish

connection
between

you
associate
a
site

a
