B
Master
of
men
thou,
who
ought
the
lover
of
our
souls
you've,
given
us
a
city
of
people
to
love,
so
now
expand
the
possibilities
of
our
hearts
that
we
might
embrace
them
in
such
a
way.
That's
pleasing!
In
that
sight.
We
thank
you
for
this
day
and
for
the
confidence
you've
had
in
us
for
you've,
given
us
today
and
also
our
daily
bread.
We
pray
that
all
that
we've
done
has
been
pleasing
in
thy
sight.
B
B
We
pray
that
you
will
continue
to
open
our
hearts
minds
and
we
might
receive
your
presence
that
we
might
do
that
which
law
will
advance
your
calls
and
create
and
create
a
hell,
a
healthy
environment
for
your
people
and
when,
at
last
Lord
we,
like
all
of
your
service
one
day
we
will
quit
the
walks
of
men,
lay
down
our
war
tools
to
study
War.
No
more.
We
pray
the
revealer
voice,
saying
you've
served
well
these
blessings.
We
ask
in
the
name
of
our
Lord,
amen,.
A
Revenue
backs
tomorrow's
pastor
of
the
First
Baptist
Church
here
Montgomery
in
the
chaplain
for
our
Police
Department.
Thank
you
so
very
much
for
the
invocation,
and
now
we
proceed
with
our
program.
We
call
on
our
on
the
Honorable
mayor
of
the
city
of
Montgomery,
mr.
Todd,
strange,
who
will
come
and
officially
welcome
you
here
this
afternoon,
mayor
strange.
C
When
I
so
sander
Nikhil
come
in,
I
had
been
here
earlier
and
I
saw
the
winners
of
the
awards,
but
I
didn't
know
whether
the
winners
knew
that
they
had
won
the
award,
so
I
didn't
say
anything
to
her.
But
if
your
name
is
up
here,
you've
won
a
reward
and
I'm
delighted
to
know
that
you
are
continuing
the
tradition.
This
is
our
second
annual
and
I
got
to
tell
you.
I
Baxter
Mars,
you've
already
identified
him
as
chaplain
of
Police
Department
he's
got
a
standing
invitation
when
I
die.
C
He's
gonna
trade
me
to
heaven.
Cuz,
he's
gonna,
just
call
upon
God
to
open
those
pearly
gates
and
come
get
me
he's
he's
a
delightful
you'll
hear
him
next
Wednesday
on
the
16th,
which
is
the
police
memorial
he'll
play
an
active
role
in
that
my
official
responsibility
tonight
is
to
welcome
you,
and
you
can
do
that
with
one
word
welcome,
but
as
an
elected
politician,
if
you
would
allow
me
I
would
take
a
moment
of
personal
privilege
or
mayoral
privilege
and
share
a
bit
of
thought
about
what
you're
doing.
C
C
Sometimes
you
try
to
keep
us
too
honest,
but
mutual
collaboration
and
mutual
appreciation
for
each
other
gets
us
past
you're
sitting
in
a
perfect
example
of
something
that
I
wanted
to
have
happen.
When
I
got
to
be
the
mayor,
this
we
were
offices
for
our
finance
organization.
We
were
violating
the
fire
code
of
all
the
boxes
that
were
up
there.
C
The
good
Lord
was
looking
out
for
us
because
they
put
Dexter
I'm,
sorry,
not
Dexter,
but
one
quart
square
on
the
agenda
for
us.
So
for
a
year
and
a
half,
we
lived
over
there,
the
mayor's
office
that
a
lot
of
the
city
organizations
this
city
council
met
over
there
and
we
started
with
a
bond
issue
to
renovate
several
things
in
our
community.
C
They
always
caution
me
to
tell
people
we
did
not
do
a
restoration
of
this
facility.
We
did
a
renovation
because,
frankly,
we
could
not
afford
a
complete
restoration
and
if
you
went
up
in
the
balconies
and
you
wanted
to
be
restored
up,
there
you'll
see
some
things
that
maybe
we'd
rather
not
have
seen.
So
we
hung
some
black
drapes
over
it
because
it
helps
the
sound
along
the
way.
C
We
also
got
six
million
dollar
grant
from
the
state
of
Alabama,
not
alone
for
just
a
grant
and
that
grant
helped
us
package
some
14
or
so
properties
on
Dexter
Avenue
up
and
down
Dexter
David,
including
one
sports,
one
court
Square
and
the
the
preservation
and
the
renovation
and
the
restoration
that's
going.
There
came
from
that
because
it
was
a
lot
of
work
with
Matt,
McLeod
and
his
organization,
our
development
organization,
a
planning
organization,
because
we
still
have
issues
today
right
across
the
street,
the
Weber
building.
C
We
had
a
our
meeting
this
morning,
cuz
I'm,
tired
of
looking
at
that
hole
right
outside
my
window,
and
we
wanted
to
do
our
best
to
preserve
some
element
of
that
particular
building,
and
it
appears
that
we're
going
to
be
able
to
save
the
wall
as
it
is
there
today
and
be
able
to
use
that
wall
as
the
exterior
for
the
other
building
it.
May
it
provides
stability
enough
about
that.
Let
me
just
thank
you.
Let
me
congratulate
those
that
are
winners
today,
but
let
me
thank
you
for
being
that
beacon
of
Irving.
C
What
a
past
has
accomplished
now.
Richard
Bayly
was
here
last
Tuesday
when
we
had
a
very
innocuous
national
preservation
historic
week
or
something
like
that.
But
everybody
wanted
to
know
which
mind
once
we
were
going
to
be
taken
down
because
of
just
he
was
up
here
and
he
was
representing
them
well,
we
finally
got
them
straight:
it's
not
about
the
monuments,
it's
about
preserving
the
history.
From
a
standpoint
of
our
buildings,
we
delighted
to
have
our
new
executive
director.
C
You've
got
shoes
to
fill
shoes
to
fill,
but
we
know
that
you're
up
to
that
task,
and
we
appreciate
that
in
dr.
Bailey.
We
just
thank
you
for
taking
the
initiative,
because
these
people
that
are
winning
today
have
gone
above
and
beyond
the
call
of
duty
to
make
sure
that
act
at
our
community
while
we're
progressive
and
we're
moving
forward
and
we're
in
a
modern
sense.
We
do
so
with
the
reverence
of
what
has
been
in
our
past.
Congratulations
and
thank
you.
I,
look
forward
to
handing
out
some
awards.
C
A
C
A
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
as
we
recognize
these
individuals
this
afternoon
here
again,
we
hope
that
no
one
takes
historic
preservation
for
granted,
and
this
is
our
way
of
ensuring
that
historic
preservation
does
not
take
a
back
seat
in
our
city.
So
when
these
people
come
forward-
and
we
applaud
them-
we're
not
just
applauding
them
for
receiving
these
plaques,
we
are
applauding
them
in
fact,
recognising
them
thanking
them.
For
taking
such
an
interest
in
historic
preservation,
our
first
recipients
and
I
will
read
the
award
to
you.
A
It
says:
Montgomery,
Historic,
Preservation
Commission
proudly
presents
this
2018
historic
preservation
award
to
David
Hughes
and
Glenn
Riley
for
overall
restoration
of
a
residential
project.
3:46
Cloverdale
Road
done
this
8th
day
of
May
2018,
dr.
Richard,
Bayly,
chair
and
I'd
like
to
ask
mr.
David
Hughes
and
mr.
Glen
Riley.
If
you
will
come
forward-
and
we
will
recognize
you
with
these
plaques.
D
A
D
Some
photos
of
their
restoration,
it's
behind
there
with
they've,
obviously
seen
the
numerous
benefits
such
as
contributing
to
the
aesthetic,
economic
and
quality
of
life
in
the
Garden
District.
The
restoration
is
a
full
ultimate
form
of
environmental,
civil
responsibility
and
mr.
Reilly
understood
the
economic
opportunities
of
this
residential,
historic
restoration
and
clearly
invested
in
346
mr.
Reilly
and,
ultimately,
the
new
homeowners.
Mr.
Hughes
realized
that
success
depends
on
reuse
of
as
much
of
the
original
design,
craftsmanship
and
materials
as
possible.
The
real
value
to
the
contractors,
homeowners
and
neighbors
is
a
result
of
this
restoration.
D
A
D
You
dr.
Balian
I,
want
to
tell
you
tell
me
your
strange.
Thank
you
also
for
the
resolution
that
the
City
Council
passed
last
Tuesday
night.
It
was
close,
declaring
May
is
historic
preservation
month
in
Montgomery
as
well
the
purpose
of
these
awards.
This
is
our
second
annual
are
to
encourage
excellence
in
the
planning,
the
design
and
the
execution
of
projects
that
affect
our
city's
historic
resources
and
our
architectural
heritage
in
our
historic
districts.
We
also
want
to
raise
public
awareness
and
understanding
of
historic
preservation
and
how
it
can
benefit
the
city
of
Montgomery.
D
The
people
that
you'll
see
tonight
who
are
eligible
for
the
awards
are
individuals,
organizations,
agencies
and
businesses.
They've
demonstrated
outstanding
achievement
in
historic
preservation
and
their
projects
took
place
and
we're
completed
in
the
year
2017.
The
next
project
we
have
is
a
reintroduction
of
detail.
D
A
D
A
D
Bit
about
mr.
Daniel,
he
was
a
longtime
architectural
review
board
member.
He
joined
the
architectural
review
board
in
1994
and
actually
retired
in
2011,
even
after
his
speech
was
affected
by
ALS.
Mr.
Daniel
still
was
here
presiding
over
the
ARB
meetings
until
his
restoration
since
1981
Sandra
has
passionately
worked
to
preserve,
protect
and
improve
the
quality
of
life
in
Midtown
Montgomery.
In
fact,
Sanders
even
credited
with
coining
word
mid-town,
referring
to
those
mainly
historic
neighborhoods
that
encircle
our
downtown
business
district.
D
We
go
and
she's.
Also
a
founding
member
of
a
movement
that
began
in
the
mid
1980s
called
preserved
Montgomery.
It
was
designed
to
Co
align
the
various
pockets
of
historic
homeowners
that
were
in
our
neighborhoods
around
the
city.
Sandra
has
served
as
president
of
landmarks
and
recently
has
initiated
the
renovators
happy
hour,
open
houses
which
are
centering
around
residential
and
commercial
renovations
that
are
happening
in
our
downtown
area.
Sandra
has
been
in
the
residential
real-estate
industry
for
thirty
years.
D
In
her
small
company
senator
nickel,
Realtors
specializes
in
promoting
properties
in
our
historic
areas
within
her
real
estate
business,
she
has
spearheaded
the
most
successful
30
years
old
house
Expo,
which
features
old
homes
available
in
Montgomery's
historic
districts
and
because
of
her
longtime
passion
for
Historic
Preservation.
In
all
facets
of
Sandra's
life
and
her
community
Sanders
awarded
the
Robert
G
Daniel
preservation
award.
E
Fittingly
the
gentleman
on
my
right
is
all
about
the
growth
of
this
community
and
we
are
blessed
because
he
understands
that
historic
preservation
is
an
awesome
economic
development
tool.
Tourism
is
a
really
good
example.
I
know
you
love
it.
When
tourists
come
to
town,
that's
clean
money,
clean
industry,
twenty
percent
of
the
tourists
who
come
to
Montgomery
are
what
is
called
heritage.
Tourists
they're
here
to
see
our
historic
districts,
our
historic
sites,
our
museums,
they
stay
longer
and
they
spend
more
than
any
other
tourists
and
the
more
preservation
work
we
do.
E
The
more
money
will
flow
into
the
city's
coffers.
So
it's
not
just
historic,
hysterical
preservation.
The
way
some
people
call
it
it's
all
about
the
dollar
plus.
If
we
don't
pay
attention
to
and
study
our
history,
we
are
bound
to
repeat
it
and,
as
we
all
know
not
all
of
our
history
is
favorable.
Thank
you.
A
Thank
you
very
much
to
all
of
our
award
recipients
this
afternoon.
One
point
we
want
to
emphasize
demolition
is
not
the
only
alternative
demolition
is
not
the
sole
alternative.
Thank
you
very
much
at
this
point,
I'd
like
to
introduce
to
you
other
members
of
the
Montgomery
Historic
Preservation
Commission
to
my
left,
it's
Carole
King
sitting
next
to
her
dr.
Dallas
Hansberry
sitting
to
my
in
front
of
me
to
my
left,
mr.
Walter
Bush
and
mr.
Brian
Moore
sitting
in
front
of
me.
A
Mr.
Douglass
McCants
thank
you
so
much
for
coming
out
and
miss
Cindy
keeping.
Thank
you
for
coming
out.
Also
with
the
city
of
Montgomery.
This
afternoon
we
have
mr.
Thomas
M
Tyson
jr.,
our
land
use
coordinated
with
the
city
of
Montgomery.
Thank
you
for
coming
out
and
we
would
like
to
welcome
to
Montgomery
our
new
administrator
with
the
Montgomery
County
Historical
group,
miss
Alma,
Hubbard
she's,
the
new
executive
director,
mrs.
Hubbard.
Would
you
just
stand
in
waving
here,
so
everybody
can
see
you.
