GitOps Driven Deployments on OpenShift - Everett Toews (Deloitte)
The industry is determined to deliver value ever more rapidly, safely, and securely across software development lifecycle environments. One way to achieve this is through GitOps.
In broad terms, GitOps is about applying the Git workflow to operations. I took this idea and narrowed it down to exactly one use case, using Git to drive deployments on OpenShift. In this presentation I’ll walk-through all of the components used to enable GitOps driven deployments all the way from development to production for a real-world enterprise client.
About the speaker:
Everett Toews (Senior Specialist Lead Platform Engineer at Deloitte New Zealand) is working to improve the developer experience of building cloud native applications through a combination of development, operations, testing, documentation, and continuous integration/deployment. He’s interested in composing distributed systems using APIs, SDKs, CLIs, containers, and cloud. He likes to teach what he learns along the way.

Jon Deeming, VP at Experian, presents how automation can ensure that security policy is consistently deployed into production OpenShift container environments. He shares some of the lessons learned in Experian’s move to containers. The dynamic nature of containers requires thinking through all the attack vectors in a new environment and creates the need for behavior-based security technology. This new technology needs to work with the system primitives, labels, resources and other metadata to maintain the desired security posture. At the same time, it’s critical to dive deeply into the Kubernetes architecture to understand how to properly deploy resilient services. Understanding the network and system behavior of pods and containers will enable DevOps and security teams to detect suspicious behaviors. This session provides a framework for evaluating container security and advice for securing business critical services and protecting sensitive data.
