From the Stated Meeting of Philadelphia City Council held Thursday, May 11, 2017:
Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell (3rd District) led a presentation on behalf of Council President Clarke (5th District) honoring, congratulating and recognizing Julia R. Masterman School Students for Being Crowned World Finalists in the Odyssey of the Mind International Competition.

It
is
with
great
pride
that
we
present
this
resolution
on
your
behalf
resolution
honoring
congratulating
and
recognizing
Julia
our
Masterman
school
student
for
being
crowned
world
famous
finalist
in
the
Odyssey
of
the
mind.
International
competition,
whereas
Odyssey
of
the
mind
is
an
international
creativity,
competition
that
synthesizes
science,
technology,
engineering
and
the
arts
and,
whereas
obviously
of
the
mind,
has
been
encouraging
students
around
the
world
to
quote
unquote.
Think
outside
the
box
and
work
together
as
a
team
to
solve
challenging
problems
since
1978
and.

Right,
all
in
fifth
grade
and
coached
by
Chris,
Hoffman
and
Brett
Mandel
won
second
place
overall
first
place
and
spontaneous
problem-solving
at
the
pennsylvania
state
finals,
tournament
on
April
1st
to
2017
and
whereas
the
Division
One
teams,
winning
performance
consisted
of
famous
ghosts
trying
to
avoid
the
Ghostbusters
by
traveling
in
a
hovercraft
taxi.
A
battery
magnet
shuttle
that
traveled
through
a
coiled,
copper
wire
and
a
fan
powered
car
and.

Whereas
the
Division
two
team
won
the
run
entre
busca,
you
know
what
come
on
up
here.
We
made
helped
me
out
really
for
ultimate
creativity:
the
highest
award
in
Odyssey
by
creating
a
performance
about
the
inner
working
of
the
human
body,
that
included
a
train
of
thought,
fan,
car,
a
blood
vessel
boat
that
traveled
in
a
blood
stream
really
and
and
a
walking
neuron.
And
whereas
the
Julia
arm
Masterman
school,
I,
Philadelphia
public
school
will,
for
the
fourth
straight
year,
compete
in
the
Odyssey
of
the
mind
world
finals.

Now,
therefore,
be
it
resolved
that
the
Council
of
the
city
of
Philadelphia
does
hereby
honor
congratulate
and
recognize
the
Giulia,
our
Masterman
Schools
Odyssey
of
the
mind
team
on
their
success
in
the
state
competition
and
wish
them
success
in
the
world
finals.
Competition
and
further
be
it

that
an
engrossed
copy
of
this
resolution

to

the

there

people
worthy

that
title
every
day
in
this

us
it's
an
incredible
little
streak
that
we've
been
on
and
with
apologies
to
Walt
Whitman
the
school
that
is
great,
is
the
one
with
the
great
students.

The
best
part
about
this
run
has
been
watching
all
of
the
well-funded
and
well-heeled,
suburban,
private
and
public
schools
standing
and
cheering
for
our
students
as
they
beat
them
year
after
year.
It
is
a
wonderful
trip.
It
is
a
wonderful
program,
I'm
thrilled
to
have
been
a
participant
honored
by
this
council
when
I
was
but
a
kid
in
school.
These
guys
are
gonna
have
a
great
time,
and
it
is
wonderful
that
you
guys
have
been
our
good
luck.
