Sigma
Theta
Sorority
Incorporated

founded
on
January
13th
1913
on
the
campus
of
Howard
University
by
22,
dynamic
collegiate
women
and
because
we're
coming
up
I
think
we
have
three
more
years.
Twenty
twenty
years
on
its
way,
I
want
to
know
for
the
record,
because
sometimes
people
see
these
women
and
I
don't
care
if
you're
talking
about
us
or
another
organization
and
folks
think
they
just
like
to
get
dressed
up
in
a
certain
color
and
coming
together
in
City.
But
I
want
you
to
know.

first
public
act
of
this
organization
was
our
participation
in
the
women's
suffrage
march
in
Washington
DC,
and
what
makes
that
to
me
such
a
meaningful
act
is
that
as
african-american
women,
there
was
some
people
who
wanted
to
put
them
in
the
box
and
say
that
the
only
issues
they
should
be
advocating
for
were
those
that
were
associated
with
race.
But
these

women
said
we're
women
too,
and
we
have
a
place
in
this
struggle.

when
you
think
of
Delta
I
want
you
to
think
of
that
work.

youth

inviting
them
to
observe

experience

political
process

government,
and
especially
that
of
our
great
city

youth

are
our
future
leaders
to
understand
that
changes
can
be
made,

it
needs
to
be
developed,
discussed
and
brought
forth
to
benefit

its
citizens.

have

out

$100,000

scholarships
to
young
people
in
the
Philadelphia
area.

had
college
prep.
We
have
social
action
forums
on
age
and
gracefully
one
and
two,
because
we
really
care
about
our
senior
citizens.
Domestic
violence,
we're
not
going
to
step
back,
because
some
people
feel
it's
hurting
them.
We
want
to
make
sure
we
take
care
of
our
citizens
who
have
been
abused.
We
have
presented
candidates
for
elected
offices.

the
commitment
of

of
our
past
presidents

of

rescue
efforts
right
after
the
accident
by
our
police,
who
just
happened
to
be
right
behind
the
bus
as
well
as
by
as

as
to
help
by
family
members
of
fallen
police
officers
and
just
good
sanitarians
on
I-95
was
truly
a
godsend.
On
the
day
of
the
accident.
I
was
grateful
for
the
support
of
state
representative,
Chris
Rath,
who
also

and
the
principal
staff
and
parents.

want

give
a

shout

special
thanks
to

School

federation

the

on
this
morning
mr.
president,
we
received
calls
from
residents
throughout
the
night
reminding
us
that
there
were
posters
on
trees
and
electrical
poles
that
needed
to
be
removed
in
their
neighborhood
and
I
know.

seems
like
in
something
small,
but
when
you're
a
home
owner
and
you're
walking
up
and
down
your
street
and
you
see
them,
they
become
a
sense
of
light.
So
we
just
ask
all
of
the
candidates
if
they
would
sort
of
work
with
their
teams.

the
election
is
over,
the
campaign
is
still
underway
until
those
signs
are
removed.

I

some
of
us

heard
the
tragic
story.
Last
week
of
a
young
man
named
Malik
Kelly
who
happened
to
live
in
my
district,
actually
two
blocks
from
me,
and
he
was
a
fourth
grade
student
at
the
Pennypacker
school
and
last
night.
Residents
of
our
community
gathered
and
masks
for
a
visual
that
was
hosted
by
the
penny.

However,
I
just
want
to
read
a
couple
of
facts.
One-
and
this
is
according
to
the
National
Education
Association,
the
pacer
Center
in
the
stopbullying.gov.
One
is
to
seven
students
in
grades.
K
through
12
are
either
a
bully
or
have
been
a
victim
of
bullying,
one
in
seven,
an
estimated
160,000
US
children
miss
school
everyday
due
to
the
fear
of
attack
or
timid
ation
from
other
students.
Nearly
nine
out
of
ten
LGBTQ
youth
report
being
verbally
harassed
at
school
and
six
out
of
ten
teenagers
say
that
they
witnessed
bullying
in
school
once
a
day
with.

That
being
said,
I
want
to
say
a
special
thanks
to
the
members
of
this
body
who
have
long
raised
the
awareness
regarding
this
issue,
which
is
why,
mr.
president,
this
crisis
occurred,
but
there
was
no
need
to
introduce
a
resolution
in
this
body
about
it
to
raise
awareness
because
council
members,
blackwell
Reynolds,
Brown,
Councilwoman
gill,
prior
to
her
joining
this
body.
Councilman,
oh
and
even
former
councilman
Dennis
O'bryan
working
with
the
school
district
and
the
police
department
in
our
office
of
state
Safe
Schools,
because
you've
already
raised
awareness
about
this
issue.

But
what
Malik
circumstances
remind
us
of
is
that
bullying
has
serious
adverse
educational
effects,
that
students
who
are
target
often
experience
extinct,
extreme
stress
that
can
lead
to
the
symptoms
of
physical
illness,
diminish
their
ability
to
learn
and
it
can
translate
into
increased
absenteeism
and
impaired
performance.
So,
while
we
keep
Tanisha
and
Malik
family
and
friends
and
our
thoughts
and
prayers,
we
also
need
to
keep
our
thoughts
on
what
we
can
do
to
say.
No
more
to
bullying.
We
have
campaigns
about
domestic
violence.

the
opportunity

voters

the
referendums

that
was
was
a
creation
of
your
due
diligence.

you

the

mission

revitalizing,

neighborhoods,

jobs

different
factors

past

in

to

all
right,

not
the

moving
devices
really
can

think
clutter
winner
in
the
rights
away

take
away

product

the
people
all

we're
trying
to
connect
with
when
we

walkable,
presentable

usable
and
inviting
for
for
all
citizens.

you

look
forward

that

every

lastly,
this
is
National
Police
week
and
naturally,
and
especially
here
in
the
city
of
Philadelphia,
so
I
want
to
thank
Lodge,
five,
all
its
retirees,
its
current
officers,
who
make
the
sacrifice
every
single
day
they
go
out
in
the
morning.
They
go
out
at
night,
whatever
shift
that
they're
on
not
knowing,
if
they're
going
to
come
back.
So
though,
if
there
are
memorials
and
events
that
are
taking
place
during
the
course
of
this
week,
I
know
which
I
where
you
just
want
to
say.

continue
to
make
sure
that
you
know
our
community
policing
is
reflective
of
who
we
are
as
a
community,
but
there
needs
to
be
respect
for
our
law
officers

transition

modern-day

safe

safe
community
that
we
can
raise
our
families,
and
so
our
kids
can
go
to
school
where
and
they
can
stay
here
and
be
employed
here.

You
very

is
patients
live
day
and
I
just
wanted
to
make
a
few
remarks
about
it,
as
I
talked
very
briefly
last
week,
but
the
Haitian
people
have
a
long
tradition
of
freedom
and
struggle.
They
rose
up
to
end
slavery
and
establish
the
first
free
black
state
in
the
modern
world.

They've
resisted
a
continuous
onslaught
of
economic
exploitation
and
abandonment
by
imperial
powers,
but
the
reality
today
is
that
Haiti
also
is
recovering
from
the
effects
of
a
devastating
earthquake
that
killed
300,000
people
displaced
more
than
a
million
and
then
was
followed
by
a
more
recent
devastating
hurricane
effects
that
have
been
exacerbated
by
ineffective
and
sometimes
self-serving.
Aid
work
and
many
Haitian
refugees
have
found
safety
and
a
home
in
the
United
States.
Nearly
60,000
Haitians
have
been
able
to
live,
work
and
prosper
here,
thanks
to
a
federal
program
that
offers
them
temporary
protected
status.

Many
of
these
patient
people
now
live
in
and
around
Philadelphia
not
only
does
TPS
ensure
refuge
and
safety
in
the
wake
of
humanitarian
emergencies,
but
TPS
also
generates
dearly
needed
economic
resources
for
families
back
in
Haiti
by
enabling
Haitians
to
work
and
contribute
to
the
United.
States
TPS
also
allows
them
to
send
remittances
home
to
support
their
families
and
communities
as
they
work
to
rebuild
this
status
currently
is
in
danger
of
being
taken
away.

If
the
Department
of
State
and
homeland
security
do
not
remove
the
program
before
July
22nd,
and
if
the
federal
departments
choose
not
to
act,
many
of
many
Haitians,
including
those
in
our
own
city
of
Philadelphia,
will
be
forced
to
leave.
The
United
States
returning
to
Haiti
now
would
be
catastrophic
for
so
many
families.
Last
year,
hurricane
Matthew
inflicted
further
infrastructure
damage
on
the
already
struggling
countries
leading
to
severe
food
shortages
and
further
burdening
and
already
insufficient
medical
system.

joined
Mayor,
Kenny
and
leaders
from
across
the
country
and
calling
upon
secretaries,
Tillerson
and
Kelly
to
extend
the
TPS
program
and
continue
to
support
our
Haitian
neighbors
brothers
and
sisters
and
Philadelphian
across
the
country
and
on
Haitian
flag
day.

feel
like
that's
the
way
to
honor
our
our
our
Brotherhood.

his
contribution

League
