From YouTube: Councilwoman Quiñones-Sánchez Acknowledges the One Year Anniversary of Hurricane Maria 9-20-2018
Description
From the Stated Meeting of Philadelphia City Council held Thursday, September 20, 2018:
Councilwoman Quiñones-Sánchez (7th District) requests a moment of silence to acknowledge the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria and the more than 3,000 lives lost in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
A
I
am
particularly
want
to
thank
all
of
the
agencies,
Philadelphia
Housing,
Authority
and
all
of
the
nonprofit's
organizations
who
stood
together
during
this
incredible
time.
We
are
all
frustrated
with
the
slow
response
of
our
federal
government
and
I
hope
that
our
fellow
Americans
in
the
Carolinas
do
not
have
to
endure
what
Puerto
Ricans
and
our
friends
in
the
US
Virgin
Islands
did
during
these
hurricane
Irma
and
hurricane
Maria.
A
I
want
to
thank
all
of
my
colleagues
and
everyone
in
the
Philadelphia
area
who
somehow
fundraise
or
joined
us
at
the
many
many
events
at
12noon,
representative,
Cruz
and
other
elected
officials
will
be
raising
the
ceremonial
flag
at
Antonio
Pantoja
school
on
Monday,
as
I
have
done
in
the
last
11
years.
We
will
be
raising
the
Puerto
Rican
flag
and
I
hope
that
my
colleagues
would
join
us.
A
My
young
cousin
in
Puerto
Rico,
said
to
me
when
I
visited
this
summer
about
the
storm
and
the
effects
afterwards,
we've
lost
and
I'll
say
it
in
Spanish,
first
hemos
perdido
tanto
que
hemos
perdido
hasta
el
miedo.
We
have
lost
so
much
that
we
have
even
lost
the
ability
to
fear
so
I.
Ask
that
all
of
you
join
me
Stan
and
one
moment
of
silence
for
all
of
the
folks
that
we
lost
the
thousands
of
folks
in
Puerto.
Rico
and
the
US
Virgin
Islands.
