From YouTube: Councilmember Johnson Speech 1-30-2020
Description
From the Stated Meeting of Philadelphia City Council held Thursday, January 30, 2020.
Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson (2nd District) makes remarks on the planned work of the Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention.
A
Thank
You,
council,
president,
first
and
foremost
I
just
want
to
say
I
know
we
kicked
off
this
week
with
some
distractions
and
I
just
want
to
first
and
foremost
thank
my
colleagues
who
have
reached
out
to
me
via
telephone
and
those
who
have
sent
me
text,
messages
of
encouragement
and
support,
and
nevertheless
the
work
of
advocating
on
behalf
of
the
citizens
in
the
second
count.
Cinematic
district
and
the
city
of
Philadelphia
must
move
forward,
and
so
I
do
want
to
acknowledge.
A
The
support
that
I've
been
receiving
from
my
colleagues
and
I
also
think
it's
unfortunate
just
based
upon
these
overreaching
circumstances
that
I
know
it
has
put
some
of
my
colleagues
who
are
doing
the
great
work
and
in
this
body
in
general,
in
a
precarious
situation.
But
nevertheless
the
work
here
in
the
city
of
Philadelphia
must
be
done.
A
A
four
year
old
boy
was
shot
and
killed
during
a
home
invasion
when
Lambert
Street
and
in
West
huskily
Hanna
Avenue
in
Northland
elfia,
and
the
latest
media
reports
say
that
the
father
had
been
home
with
a
four
year
old
victim
and
a
younger
child.
While
their
mother
was
at
work.
When
the
police
arrived
on
the
scene,
the
father
was
downstairs,
holding
the
younger
child,
who
was
found
upstairs
in
the
bedroom
unconscious
and
I'm
responsible.
The
murder
of
anyone
in
the
city,
especially
a
child,
is
unacceptable.
