From YouTube: Councilmember Domb Floor Speech 5-20-2021
Description
From the Stated Meeting of Philadelphia City Council held Thursday, May 20, 2021:
Councilmember Allan Domb (At large) floor remarks.
A
Oh
thank
you,
president,
and
I
just
want
to
speak
today
about
something
I
feel
very
strongly
about,
and
that
is,
I
believe,
we're
at
a
turning
point
for
the
city
of
philadelphia.
This
is
a
moment
in
time
where
we
can
make
a
dramatic
difference
for
all
philadelphians,
but
especially
those
in
poverty
and
in
need
of
a
good
paying
job.
We
can
return
to
what
we
were
doing
before.
I
think
we
will
get
there,
but
that's
not
my
goal.
My
goal
is
to
do
way
better
than
we
were
doing
before.
A
We
know
we're
one
of
the
poorest
cities
in
the
country,
and
we
know
that
since
2009,
sadly,
we
produced
twice
the
u.s
average
of
jobs
that
paid
below
35
000
a
year,
and
we
also
know
like
we
had
the
second
biggest
financial
loss
of
any
city.
Only
detroit
was
worse
than
us,
and
we
also
know
that
of
the
top
cities
in
the
east
coast
for
the
on
the
formation
of
black
and
brown
businesses
we're
the
lowest
by
far
we're
also
the
lowest
for
white
businesses.
A
This
hurts
us
in
growing
jobs.
This
is
why,
when
you
look
at
the
suburbs
of
philadelphia,
their
employment
is
far
exceeds
the
city
of
philadelphia,
while
all
other
cities
on
the
east
coast,
the
majority
of
the
city's
employment,
exceeds
the
suburbs.
So
my
comments
today
are
really,
if
we're
serious
about
tackling
poverty
and
creating
good
paying
jobs.
