Description
An intro to creating automation for Solarwinds using the Orion SDK, SWQL and PowerShell from a lightning talk demo. Lightning talks are opportunities for RTPSUG members to share interesting bits of code with one another.
David Gilbert walks through how he uses the SDK and PowerShell automate mundane tasks like dealing with NIC driver changes that cause false alerts. David discusses resources available and how to do discoveries when scripting is not an option.

Network
card
gets
changed,
or
sometimes
the
driver
changes.
Solar
ones
will
tell
you
that
the
interface
is
down.
It's
not
down
is
okay
right,
so
I
can
fix
that
manually
or
I
can
write
a
script
and
if
you
run
SolarWinds
and
you're
out
of
power,
so
you
really
should
know
about
ryan
sdk,
because
that's
what
gives
you
power
show
gives
you
a
few
things
got
a
nice
wiki
right
there
on
the
github.

B
Get
some
ice
first
like
connect
to
the
Swiss
server,
get
Swiss
data.
You
can
put
in
your
your
query
that
you
just
tested
in
Julie
and
now
I've
got
a
list
of
all
the
Knicks.
That
I
know
are
on
servers
that
have
working
next,
because
they're
still
up
write,
a
query
does
so
now
I'm
halfway
done,
I
can
just
call
them
verb
to
delete
them.
B
That's
what
I'm
paranoid
and
I
overthink
things,
and
sometimes
the
old
Nick
will
show
that
it's
gone,
but
the
new
Nick
won't
be
found
yet
so
the
way
you
added
into
SolarWinds
as
you
do
a
discovery
discovery
is
a
little
more
complicated
than
just
a
superb,
but
is
hey?
Look
here's
a
sample
spit
up
on
github
SDK
on
how
to
do
you
have
to
build
a
couple
of
different
xml's
and
and
execute
right.
So
this
is
the
code
to
do
that.
First,
I'm,
hitting
the
IPS
of
all
my
node
objects.
