the

a
little
pop

I
can
give
people

lay

the
land
all

couple
of

so
this

azure

It's

azure
portal
app,
so
you
see
it's
a
it's
a
windows,
modern
app
and
it
looks
almost
exactly
the
same
as
the
portal
website
itself.
So,
what's
the
difference,
there
really
is
no
difference
for
home.
I
use
the
website
when
I'm
at
work,
believe
it
or
not.
I
rock
most
of
the
times
in
the
application,
because
the
application
will
maintain
your
identity.

just
launch
the
app
and
I'm
pretty
much
logged
in
and
it's
ready
to
go
so
that
makes
it
more
convenient.

don't
need
to
do
that
as
much
for
my
home
account
my
lab,
so
I
just
work

azure
portal

you
can
use
either
one
that
you
like,
if
you've
never
been
here
before,
you
have
a
left
hand
bar.
That
shows
you

of
the
resources,
but
not
all.
This
is
customizable
and
one
of
the
things
that's
very
much
the
thing
to
remember
with
azure.

arc

servers
into
azure,
I'm
just
representing
them
in
the
azure
console
I'm
pulling
in
resources
from
many
different
areas
and
I'm
using
the
azure
console
to
manage
all
that,
and
I
will
tell
you
that
I
did
not
know

myself
until
a
few
weeks
ago,
because
this
is
a
service
that
we're
exploring
at
my
current
employer
to
use.
We
are
migrating
some
of
the
on-prem
services
that
we
have
to
azure
versions
like
monitoring.

want

get
rid
of
our
on-prem
monitoring
and
we
want
to
use
azure
monitoring.
So
azure
arc
is
one
of
the
ways
to
do
that.
So
when
I
saw
that
I
thought
this
might
be
useful
to
share
with
people,
because
I
think

whole
idea
of
representing
your
on-premises
assets
inside
azure
arc
is
sort
of
an
unknown
to
people.

arc

manage

pull
in
resources
from
many
different
areas
and
represent
them
in
one
place.

arc
is
going
to
roll
up
a
view
of
all
your
assets,
and
then
you
use
the
tools
in
arc
to
organize
those
assets
into
views
that
make
sense
for
you,
but
we
have
two
here
and
I'm
on
a
pay-as-you-go
subscription.

is
not
a
whole
lot
to
organize,
but
so
jeremy.

works

What

is
you
can
import
servers
by
simply
running
a
script
and
you
walk
through
a
wizard

we're

groups,

demo

you

you

pick

region
where
that's
going

live.

operating

so
it
knows
how
to
customize
the
commands
for
the
machine
that
you
install
us
on.
If
you

a
proxy
server,
you
can
enter
it
there
and
then
it
starts
to
get
a
little
bit
more
interesting,
so
jeremy
and
I
both
ran
into
this
wizard.
When
jeremy
did
this

you

you
know
everything
in
azure
is
run
by
tags.
So
that's
kind
of
the
idea
here
so
yeah
as
you
bring
in
your
devices
tag
them
appropriately,
so
that
you
can
search
on
those
tags
later,
you'll
even
be
able
to
deploy
policy
and
things
like
that
against
different
tag.
Data
so
in
mind
you
can
see
like
these
are
kind
of
the
values
that
I
was
just
putting
in
just
for
so
you
would
see
what
the
tags
look
like
on
the
devices
when
they
come
in.

then,
beyond
that,
you
can
add
all
your
own
custom
tags
and
it's
you
know
for
those
that
aren't
familiar
with
azure
azure.
All
the
tags
are
just
simple
key
value
pairs,
so
think
of
any
way
that
you
need
to
name
space,
your
your
resources
inside
azure,
and
then
you
use
your
tags
essentially
to
establish
that
and
you
can
stick
as
many
tags
as
you
want
for
the
most
part
on
any
of
the
resources
in
azure.

these
tags
multiple
purposes
but
they're
all
going
to
help
you
to
find
things
later
on,
so
you
can
use
them
as
an
organization
resource.
You
can
call
tags
from
certain
scripts
and
tools
and
stuff
like
that,
and
just
like
jeremy
said,
these
are
sort
of
the
defaults
that
were
here
but
then
down
here
I
mean
you
literally
could
put
whatever
you
want
and
populate
any
values
you
want.

real
cost,

doing
anything

up

in
a

you
have
to
store
that
data
somewhere.

it's
about
it
depends
on
the
cost
to
store
your
logs
and
how
much
volume

going
into

storage.

the

what

it's
my
point

once
you
fix
that
pathing
problem:
you
can
just
do
that
over
and
over
again.
So
what
you
end
up
with
here
is
you'll
end
up
with
an
asset
in
the
dashboard.
That's
just
like
this,

once
it

dashboard,
you
can
then
dive
into
the
asset
and
here's
where
the
magic
happens
and

reason
that
I
wanted
to
show.
This
is
because
me,
as
an
on-prem
guy,
that's
managed
servers
for
20
years
on-prem.

cloud
is
a
little
bit
like
at
the
same
time
awesome
because
you
can
get
rid
of
your
exchange,
environment
and
scary,
because
you
can
run
virtual
apps
in
the
cloud
and
do
all
this
single,
sign-on
and
stuff
like
that
and
if
you've
never
been
exposed
to
that
world.
It's
a
huge
change,
but
when
you
get
to
azure
arc-
and
you
see
this
stuff
right
here
well,
this
feels
like
server
management
to
me,
and
this
is
like
right
in
my
wheelhouse-
makes
a
lot
of
sense.

treating
your
service
like
cattle
and
not
as
individual
pets.

apply
a
policy.

don't
give
a
crap
about
these
machines.

just
do
they
meet
my
policies

we're
going
to
talk
about
in
a
little
bit.
So
you
can
apply
things
like
a
framework
for
security
to
a
system,
and
you
can
immediately
tell
whether
that
system
meets

compliance

framework

sort

pieces

azure
arc,

they
relate

pieces

azure

Monitoring

separate
piece
to
azure
that
integrates
with
arc,
so
you
can
get
to
the
same
resources
from
monitoring
that
you
can
get
to
by
driving
into
a
server
and
going
to
the
monitoring
on
that
server.
I'll
show
you
that
in
a
second,
but
what
works
today
and
what
doesn't
so
logs
works
today,
monitoring
insights
works.

remember

I'm

is
basically
the
bottom

someone
who
has
a
corporate
account
and
maybe
for
someone
who

very
well
established

services

getting
machines
in,

you're

done

When
you
get
things
in,

I
say
that
because
there's
two
pieces
to
this
puzzle,
the
first
is
getting
an
agent
on
the
box
to
get
it
to
phone
home,

when
it
comes
to
logs
and
monitoring
and
policies,
you
need
a
second
agent,
and
that's
really,
I
think,
it's
it's.
Basically
the
modern
version
of
microsoft
operations
manager-
and
I
can
show
you
that,
because
I
have
it
installed
on
this
box,
I
think
that's
this
one
mma
setup.

after
you
get
the
machine
installed
in
your
console,
if
you
want
to
push
logs
up,
you
need
to
pull
down
this
second
agent.
You
configure
it
and
when
you
have
this
connect
here,
then
what
happens
is
it
will
start
funneling
up
logs
up

your
up
to
azure?
You
don't
have
to
do
this.
You
can
just
pull
the
asset
into
arc
and
do
other
things
with
it.

track

performance
stats
up

kind

stuff,

pump
some

this
piece

a
selection
to
say
what
kind
of

two
piece

So
the
first
piece
is:
I'm
running
a
script
that
will
download
a
connect
agent.

connection
agent

that
will
run

then
phone
home
and
get

console

display

machine

machine
is

the
log
analytics
agent

you
install
it,
runs
on

machine
and
then
sucks
data
and
sends
it
up

azure

automation

the

days

they're

offer
services
that
hopefully
are
as
good
as
the
third-party
services
that
are
out
there.
Now
there
is
a
way
to
add
plug-ins,
so
third-party
you.
What
will
happen
is
third-party
services
will
be
in
the
cloud
as
well
and
they
will
just
offer
a
plug-in
that
you
can
connect
to
the
salex
splunk
right,
so
you're
just
funneling
data
into
the
cloud,
and
then
the
cloud
is
routing
that
data
to
the
service
or
something
like
that.

understand

remember
the
days
of
having
like
well-
the
box
has
four
gig
of
ram
in
there,

it
also
has
seven
agents
and
those
seven
agents
are
consuming

ram

it's
just
sitting
there
doing
nothing.

then
I
need
to
configure
my
workload
to
actually
work
as

agent

able

ship

any

analytic
workspace

capture
that
data

that's

without
arc
just

or
not

currently
configured
as

servers
are

intend
them
to
be
without
using

analytics,

are
two
separate
agents

Imagine
if
you
know
you
spent
a
couple
days
and
you
got
your
machines
into
the
console
right

you
did
an
automated
task
of

deployment

agent

runs
a
script.
The
script
has
a
bunch
of
parameters
in
it
that
has
all
your
subscription
id
ready
in
there.
So
these
agents
fire
off
and
all
of
a
sudden,
you
got
100
to
200
servers
that
show
up
in
the
console
right
now.

along
and
you
can
take
something
like
a
simple
template
and
you
can
apply
it
across
all
those
servers
and
one
of
the
things
that
azure
has
done
is
built
the
dashboard

us
and

reporting
tool

a
huge
challenge
for
a
lot
of
people
to
do
today
without
sort
of
a
central
resource
right,
you
can
go
out
and
get
a
service.

get
that
service
set
up
in
your
network.

to
set
up
a
bunch

parameters.

data
pumped
into
it.
It's
got
to
scan
the
machines
azure's
made
this
really
easy.

I

literally
we're
doing
it
with
button
clicks

we're
just
applying
any
policy
that
we
want

they've
built

views

after
you
apply
the
policy,
you
can
start
to
consume
the
data
in
a
short
period
of
time.

I'm
not
running
the
task,
so
I
can't
check
compliance,
but
imagine
if
this
was
running
on
a
regular
basis
and
I
can
see
a
compliance
state
on
everything.

mom

pop
shop,

thousands

budget

there

get

check
boxes

subscriptions,

lot
of

dynamic
services

maintain.

an
operator
in
a
console
microsoft's
doing
the
work
behind
the
scenes
on
defender
on
the
policies
they
built.
The
policies
for
us
monitoring
there's
a
tool
to
build
your
own
custom
monitoring
tools,
but
they
have

lot
of
built-in
configs
think
about
the
ease
of
getting
all
this
stuff
working
and
having
it
in
one
console.
So
that's
kind
of
what
I
took
away
from
all
this
when
I
said
when
I
came
into
this
view
here
and
I
go
oh
wow,
this
is
a
lot
of
what
I
work
on.

one
interesting
thing
that
I
didn't
really
mention
yet
is
this
extensions
piece,
and
so
the
manager
of
my
team
has
a
significantly
more
amount
of
cloud
experience
than
I
do
and
he's
very
well
versed
in
this
product.
I've
been
learning
it
from
him
and
he
was
telling
me
that
one
of
the
things
that's
coming
in
the
future
is
plugins
and
by
plugins
that's
plugins
for
other
services.
Right
now.

can
import
a
script
if
I
would
throw
it
up
in
a
storage
account,
I
could
pull
from
the
storage
account
and
now
I
can
pass
some
arguments
in
and
I
can
run
my
script
against
all
my
servers:
a
cloud-based
script
across
multiple
clouds.
So
maybe
that's
my
on-prem
resources
which
we're
showing
tonight
but
don't
forget.
I
could
pull
in
aws
resources,
gcp
resources,
maybe
have
soft
layer
or
something
right.
All
those
things
can
show
up
in
one
one
sort
of
dashboard
and
then
because
I
have
an
agent
that
phones
home
and
consumes
data.

also
wanted
to
mention
monitor,
but
I
don't
know
if
I'm
ready
to
kind
of
show
that,
because
I'm
probably
going
to
embarrass
myself,
they
have
dsc
here
they
have
some
other
stuff.

think
what
we're
seeing,
though,
is
a
window
into
probably
a
lot
of
development
in
the
next
year
or
two.
I
know
that
I've
had
a
phone
call
with
microsoft
about
some
of
these
services,
we're
like
a
beta
tester
on
some
of
this
stuff
and
we're
trying
to
consume
some
of
this.

know
that
this
is
an
active
project
in
microsoft
and
it's
rapidly
changing
so
today
when
I
come
in
here
and
I
go
to
update
management,
and
I
see
that
this
is
not
available
today.
I'm
pretty
sure
that
after
christmas
time
that
this
is
going
to
be
working
for
me
and
now
I'm
patching
my
machines
through
the
cloud
right.
So
there's
a
lot
of
things
rolled
into
this
console.
That
gives
me
a
lot
of
convenience
in
what
jeremy
just
said,
one
pane
of
glass.

when
you
couple
something
like
auto
manage,
which
is
now
in
preview
into
this,
that
probably
would
override
the
update
management
and
that's
going
to
make
your
both
anything
you're
running
in
the
cloud
from
an
is
perspective
and
stuff.
You're
running
on
prem
through
arc
behave
more
like
a
pass
platform.
So
that's
really
going
to
simplify
management
across
the
board
for
everybody.

you
know
I
will
say
that
all
things
cloud
when
I
come
into
the
cloud
from
a
long
background
of
managing
on-prem
resources,
I
used
to
get
very
irate,
like
oh,
my
god
now
they're
offers
in
the
cloud.
I
can't
do
this
on-prem
anymore,
but
then,
when
I
think
about
it
most
of
the
stuff
that
they
offer,
I
don't
really
want
to
do.
I
just
have
to
do
because
it's
part
of
an
infrastructure,
admins
job
right
set
up,
build
configure.

really
just
would
love
to
get
to
the
manage
part
if
I
could,
but
it's
the
setup
build
to
configure
now
look
from
an
architecture
standpoint,
that's
fun,
build
design
and
roll
out,
but
then
there's
the
reality
of
build
design

roll

doesn't
work
and,
let's
figure
out
why
and
oh
the
vendor
told
me
I
got
to
do
this
and
the
pre-sales
and
what
the
actual
is
two
different
things.

these
consoles

I

just
configure
and
manage

work
right
and

I'm

suck
my
scripts
in
here
push
them
down
onto
servers.
It's
so
easy.

effort
that
would
go

projects
new

Stand-Up
new
resources
on
a
network
goes
away
with
this
stuff,
get
an
agent
pump
it
up
there
and
it's
a
pre-built
service
you
can
consume
and
now
they're
rolling

single
pane
of
glass
with
a
bunch
of
ways
to
leverage
things.

know
you
don't
have
to
take
them
all.
The
six
seven
services
that
are
available.

free

everything
in
azure,
but
at
some
point,
you're
gonna
absorb
some
cost
and
really
it's
gonna
come
down
to

you
need

use
their
compute
or

need

the
easiest
way
to
describe
the
cost.

charges
access

local
on-prem

that's

different

Arc
doesn't

magically
help
you

this
connector
to
on-prem?
But
you
can't
traverse
like
file
storage?
That's
not
what
this
is
and
so
there's
management
at
that
point,
and
then
there's
a
connector
at
that
point.
But
then
that's
really
all
it
is.

then
you
know
route,
you
know
access
the
you
know,
sql
servers
and
all
that
kind
of
stuff.
Well,
that's
not
what
that
you

there's
not
that
possible,
because
you're
still
going
to
have
inbound

that's
a
separate
world
than
what
we're
talking
about

right

reason

on-prem

all,
it
wasn't

it
worked
for

solution,
but
it
doesn't
always
scale
when
the
business
changes

know
what
you're
saying
thomas,
but
I
think
microsoft's
version
is
consume.

services
bring
your
data
and
we'll
make
it
easy
for
you
to
do
all
the
things
you
have
to
do,
rather
than
try
to
get
our
services
to
try
to
work
with
a
bunch
of
stuff.
You
have
already
sitting
on
in
your
data
centers
and
if
you
know,
if
you
think
about
that
for
a
second,
this
is
getting
a
little
bit
off
topic.

I
love
to
build
and
buy
stuff
and
set
it
up,
but
nobody
loves
the
quoting
process
and
the
five-year
year-over-year
return
on
investment,
calculators
and
cost
of
goods
and
all
that
stuff
someone
wants
to
buy

to
figure
out
if
it's
worth
it
for

next
five
years.

goes
away

sometimes
trying
to
figure
out
how
to
make
azure
work
for
your
on-prem
services
is
not
really
the
way

next
time
you're
going
to
refresh
your
equipment,
it's
just
cheaper
to
park

equipment
in
the
cloud
and
be
able
to
pay
for
it
in
a
monthly
service,
rather
than
have
to
try
to
justify

three-year
outlay

money

that's

How
azure
looks
at
it
right?
They
want
to
get
as
much
services
as
they
can
into
the
cloud
and
they're
trying
to
make
it
as
easy
as
possible,
and
I
will
say
that
the
longer
I
do
this,
the
harder
it
is
to
justify
doing
this
stuff
on-prem.

and
I
would
almost
add
to
that,
your
centralized
logging
on
prem
is
not
free
right
if
you're
using
splunk,
it's
certainly
not
free,
if
you're
using
you
know
any
other,
centralized
logging
source
you're
paying
for
that
infrastructure,
you're
paying
for
the
network
bandwidth
that
you're
using
on
your
infrastructure
there.
So
you
know,
as
you
look
at
your
license,
renewals
for
that
type
of
thing.
That's
when
I
would
start
looking
at
microsoft
and
saying
hey
give
me
an
a
cost
comparison.
