Description
House Higher Education Subcommittee House Hearing Room 3
A
Yeah
there
it
is
gotcha
all
right.
According
to
my
clock,
it's
12
o'clock.
We
will
call
the
higher
education
subcommittee
to
order
if
we
would
mind
taking
the
role.
A
A
Thank
you
very
much,
we've
our
first
first
of
all,
any
personal
orders
today
not
seeing
any
we're
gonna
roll
into
our
first
bill
on
the
calendar,
which
is
house
bill,
zero.
Four,
four:
three
by
chairman
vaughn.
A
C
Thank
you
very
much,
and
the
amendment
basically
writes
the
bill
we've.
This
is
a
subject
matter
that
we
have
been
discussing
in
front
of
the
general
assembly.
I
believe
this
is
our
third,
our
third
run
at
it.
It
has
to
do
with
graduate
medical
education
which,
for
lack
of
a
better
term
that
that
we
met
or
more
familiar
terms,
medical
residencies
for
doctors
that
are
wanting
to
serve
and
part
of
their
educational
experience.
C
C
What
the
way
the
system
is
designed
is
it's
managed
through
cms
and
the
residencies
are
hospital
based
they're
the
hospitals
determine
who
and
where,
who
gets
in
what
they're?
Studying
that
type
thing,
what
we're
proposing
to
do
is
to
add
a
supplement
to
that.
That's
actually
controlled
by
the
public
medical
schools
in
the
state,
primarily
etsu
in
the
east
ut
center
for
the
health
sciences
in
memphis
in
the
west.
C
This
program
is
designed
to
address
a
need
to
get
these
doctors
into
the
underserved
areas
getting
these
residents
to
where
they
can
practice,
and
so
yes,
we've
seen
the
fiscal
note
on
it.
It's
one
that
we've
had
we've
we've
tried
our
best
to
get
into
the
governor's
budget,
but
we
will
continue
to
knock
on
that
door.
C
We'll
continue
to
go
to
finance
and
ask
to
be
for
this
program
to
be
recognized,
and
today
dr
steve
schwab,
who
is
the
chancellor
of
ut
memphis,
is
here
with
us
to
answer
any
specific
questions
you
have
about
it,
but
I
just
wanted
to
present
that
program.
It's
something!
That's
not
that's,
not
new,
but
we
still
think
that
it's
as
important
as
it
was
day
one
and
with
that
I'll
answer
any
questions.
Mr
chairman,
absolutely
chairman.
C
If,
if
there's
a
question
for
for
dr
schwab
we'll
handle
that
and
what
we'll
do?
Probably
since
there's
more-
and
we
would
like
to
elevate
this,
we'll
we'll
ask
dr
schwab
to
pound
I-40
like
so
many
of
us
award
warriors
road
warriors,
do
and
maybe
present
in
front
of
the
full
committee.
C
Our
story,
because
we
do
want
to
present
our
story
but
we'd
like
it
to
have
as
large
of
audience
as
possible.
If
we
could
absolutely.
D
Thank
you,
mr
chairman.
This
is
a
question.
That's
just
more
of
a
statement
that
I
completely
support
this
amendment
and
the
overall
bill.
It
would
significantly
level
our
playing
field
here
in
tennessee
to
keep
and
recruit
medical
talent
here
in
the
state,
so
I'm
completely
supportive
of
it.
Thank
you.
Thank
you,
sir.
A
No
objections,
all
those
in
favor
of
adding
the
amendment
to
the
bill
say
aye
all
those
opposed
all
right.
The
amendment
is
on
the
bill.
Any
further
comments,
chairman
vaughn
on
the
bill.
No.
A
Any
objection
to
the
question
being
called
on
the
bill
question
on
the
bill.
All
those
in
favor,
please
vote
any
opposed
that
bill
will
move
on
to
full
education.
Chairman
vaughn.
Thank
you
very
much.
