A
Board
members
present
in
the
board
room
all
board.
Members
are
present,
which
include
members,
wilson's,
lessons,
jacobs,
holloman
higgins,
donnelly
and
bellamy.
We
also
have
our
student
representative,
miss
ellie
shaw
and
we
have
dr
bishop,
along
with
several
other
staff
members,
administrative
staff.
C
C
On
behalf
of
the
anchorage
school
board,
I
want
to
take
a
moment
to
recognize
and
offer
gratitude
for
the
sacred
ancestral
lands
of
the
denia
people.
We
acknowledge
and
appreciate
that
our
offices,
facilities
and
schools
are
on
these
sacred
indigenous
lands
and
we
honor
the
traditional
care
that
has
been
given
to
this
land
throughout
generations.
C
F
A
It's
been
moved
and,
second,
that
we
approve
the
agenda.
However,
I
would
I
would
like
to
pull
the
personnel
report
from
the
agenda
and
forward
to
our
may
17th
meeting.
G
Madam
president,
if
I,
if
I
might,
I
would
move
to
postpone
the
personnel
report
to
a
time
certain
of
may
17th.
A
Okay,
is
that
is
there
a
second
second
moved
in
second
to
postpone
the
personnel
report
to
the
may
17th
meeting
all
in
favor.
Is
there
any
opposition?
Let
me
say
that
to
that
motion.
A
Right
so
with
that,
we
are
now
voting
on
the
agenda,
as
we
have
amended
all
in
favor.
A
And
that
brings
us
to
item
b,
which
is
to
adjourn
our
21
22
school
year.
It
has
been
an
amazing
year,
and
so
we
would
like
to
this
is
our.
I
hope
I
get
it
right,
shiny
die
which
ends
our
our
school
year,
and
so
now.
I
turn
it
over
to
dr
bishop.
D
D
B
B
The
support
that
has
given
to
the
yankees
youth
court
over
the
years
and
to
thank
the
school
board
itself
for
the
concurrent
invitation
to
have
a
youth
court
judge
swear
in
the
the
member,
the
new
members,
it's
very
important
to
them
to
have
that
formality
and
have
part
of
that
ceremony.
So
thank
you
at
this
point.
I'll
turn
it
over
to
well.
Actually,
first
I'll
ask
you
to
raise
your
right
hands
and
then
I'll
turn
it
over
to
judge
lilian.
A
B
B
E
D
A
D
A
A
C
Okay,
so
sab
or
student
advisory
board
had
their
last
meeting
on
april
12th,
where
we
held
our
end
of
the
year
celebrations
and
reelected
our
vice
president
and
secretary
two
students
from
diamond,
and
we
re
and
we
elected
a
new
public
relations
officer
from
family
partnership.
C
We
aren't
meeting
until
september,
but
outside
of
sab
I'm
like
99
sure
all
of
the
big
eight
high
schools
have
had
their
prom
and
I've
heard
they've
all
been
successful.
I
haven't
heard
anything
bad
about
any
of
them
and
at
least
for
south
ap
testing
has
started
and
graduations
are
next
week,
so
kind
of
just
wrapping
up
the
school
year
for
each
school.
I
know
middle
schoolers
are
having
different
dances
and
you
know
assemblies
and
little
fun
days
so
yeah.
C
A
A
D
You,
madam
president,
we
don't
have
a
document
for
you
for
the
reading
today,
inasmuch
as
when
we
postponed
the
state
testing
for
a
week.
D
All
of
our
testing
got
pushed
back
an
extra
week,
so
the
finalization
of
the
data
collection
is
actually
on
may
13th
and
we
will
finish
it
up
drop
the
new
numbers
in
once.
We
have
a
collection
of
the
entire
count
of
all
the
reading
assessments
and
then
we'll
provide
that
to
you.
It'll
definitely
be
at
least
24
hours
before
the
meeting.
D
That's
generally
when
the
questions
come
in,
and
so
I
as
if
we
get
it
any
earlier,
we'll
keep
a
count,
but
we
have
allowed
schools
the
extension
of
time
due
to
the
same,
it's
the
same
people
that
go
through
all
these
assessments.
So
I
regret
that
I
don't
have
a
document,
but
the
information
in
it.
If
you
want
to
relate
to
the
the
prior
reading,
you'll
get
the
new,
updated
numbers
as
well
as
where
we
are
on
the
progress
of
actions
taken
and
implementation,
and
so
that
those
are
the
updates.
D
A
That's
okay,
so
is
it
correct
to
say
that
we'll
get
a
report
on
the
13th
on
our
round
the
13th
and
then
we
should
send
our
questions
in
right
away.
Absolutely.
D
And
we
can
really
have
your
questions
if
you're
thinking
of
your
questions
before
yeah
before
then,
but
we
received
the
date
on
the
13th,
so
it
might
take
us
a
little
bit.
It
might
be.
It'll
definitely
be
before
your
meeting
at
least
24
hours,
but
we'll
try
to
get
it
through
to
you
on
that
weekend.
Okay,.
A
A
So,
first
of
all,
I
want
to
welcome
everybody
here.
I
I
didn't
do
my
welcome
as
I
should
have,
but
I
want
to
welcome
everybody
to
our
meeting.
Thank
you
for
attending
the
board,
really
thanks
our
students,
our
parents,
our
partners
and
staff
for
everything
that
they
that
that
they
do
in
our
community,
with
our
students
and
for
your
investment
in
our
district,
and
that
includes
your
time,
your
talents
and
your
tax
dollars.
A
The
board
has
set
aside
one
hour
at
the
beginning
of
the
meeting
for
public
comment
for
any
for
comments
in
excess
of
the
one
hour.
We
will
hear
those
that
those
comments
at
the
end
of
the
meeting
during
public
comment.
The
board
board
members
will
not
ask
questions
or
engage
in
discussion
with
members
of
the
public.
This
is
the
public's
time
to
speak
and
the
board's
time
to
listen.
A
We
conduct
our
meetings
based
on
robert's
rules
of
order.
When
you
came
into
the
boardroom,
you
should
have
picked
up
a
blue
and
white
sheet
of
paper
that
gives
an
overview
of
our
audience
participation
and
our
rules
of
the
board
room.
A
So
we
do
ask
that
we.
There
are
a
few
things
that
we
ask
of
our
individuals
who
are
who
are
providing
public
comment,
be
respectful
of
each
other's
opinions
and
statements
do
not
attack
a
members
or
speaker's
motives.
Speakers
may
point
out
what
he
or
she
believes
to
be
a
natural
consequence
of
a
board
action
but
may
not
engage
in
speech
that
personally
attack
others.
A
We
ask
that
you
refrain
from
disturbing
the
meeting
and
that
basically
means
no
cheering
applause
or
outbursts
unless
you
are
testifying.
Well,
even
if
you
are
testifying,
please
be
polite
to
the
board
and
other
speakers.
Attendees
will
not
be
permitted
to
interrupt
the
business
of
the
board
and
no
profanity
or
foul
language.
A
So
with
that
I'd
like
to
call
our
first
round
of
speakers
in
person,
we
have
deborah
hansen.
J
Hi,
my
name
is
andrew
gray,
and
I
have
a
second
grader
in
the
district,
and
I
am
secretary
of
campbell
park
community
council
tonight,
I'm
speaking
on
behalf
of
the
council
about
the
proposed
school
board
policy
change
that
would
require
board
members
to
attend
community
council
meetings.
Campbell
park
has
been
very
lucky
to
have
had
school
board
members
that
always
attend
currently
carl
jacobs,
and
before
that
margot
bellamy
and
prior
to
my
time
on
the
board,
dave
donnelly
who
also
attended
regularly,
because
we've
always
had
board
members
in
attendance.
J
We
initially
questioned
the
necessity
of
making
it
a
formal
policy.
However,
we've
since
learned
that
not
all
community
councils
have
been
as
fortunate
as
ours.
Mr
jacobs
has
spoken
about
the
value
he's
gleaned
from
attending
community
councils
by
learning
what
the
issues
are
in
the
community.
However,
the
greater
importance
is
that
the
community
is
learning
what's
happening
in
the
school
district,
our
community
councils
tend
to
attract
an
older
crowd,
many
of
whom
do
not
have
school-aged
children,
so
the
school
board
members
report
keeps
asd
issues
on
our
radar.
J
Mr
jacobs
brought
us
a
guest
speaker
in
february
chief
operating
officer,
tom
roth,
who
answered
questions
about
the
necessary
building,
reconstructions,
the
installation
of
fire
suppression
systems
and
the
roof
replacement
that
would
have
been
funded
by
the
school
bond
which
failed
in
april.
I
cannot
help
but
wonder
if
perhaps
that
bond
failed,
because
not
every
voter
had
such
a
great
presentation
that
we
had
that
night
in
february.
J
I
can
only
speak
for
my
past
two
years
on
the
board,
but
in
that
time
ms
bellamy
and
mr
jacobs
attended
every
meeting.
I
bring
this
up
because
I
understand
that
there's
been
a
debate
about
what
percentage
of
meetings
should
be
required.
75
versus
50
community
councils
have
varied
schedules.
Campbell
park
gets
together
12
times
per
year,
while
scenic
foothills
just
to
the
east
of
us,
meets
four
times
per
year.
A
50
requirement
would
be
just
two
meetings
a
year
and
I
think
that
would
be
a
little
light.
J
Given
the
importance
of
the
community
learning
more
about
what
you
guys
are
doing
and
us
you
know
being
informed
about
the
school
board,
the
anchor
school
board
is
also
compensated.
Although
I
know
you
don't
make
enough
to
live
on,
your
compensation
is
better
than
other
school
boards
in
the
state
and
engaging
with
the
community
is
part
of
your
job.
You
work
for
us,
we
pay
you
and
we
expect
you
to
show
up.
J
A
Martin
hansen,
okay,
so
we're
not
seeing
they're
not
here.
That
concludes
our
public
item
g,
which
is
our
public
testimony.
A
It's
moved
in
second
to
approve
the
consent
agenda
as
presented,
and
that
includes
memorandums
number
one,
one,
eight
one
number
100
101
113
and
number
105.
A
At
this
time
we're
moving
on
action
items,
there
are
no
action
items
for
this
meeting.
The
non-action
items
you
see
will
come
back
before
you
at
our
next
meeting.
A
We
have
no
one
else
signed
up
to
testify,
so
we're
at
our
superintendent's
update
dr
bishop.
D
First
and
foremost,
I
would
like
to
say
it
is
teacher
appreciation
week
and
we're
so
excited
for
our
staff
in
schools
and,
unlike
any
other
year,
this
has
been
we've
been
in
school,
but
we
have
been
challenged
through
two
different
variants
of
omicron
and
omicron,
and
the
delta
variant
of
the
pandemic
really
strive
to
keep
our
schools
open
and
the
people
who
made
that
happen
every
day
are
educators
who,
who
came
and
were
present
in
front
of
students,
and
so
we
are
treating
to
some
suites,
but
the
ptas
ptos
different
community
groups
are
really
supporting
our
teachers
this
week
and
I
just
wanted
to
give
them
a
public
shout
out,
as
I
am
so
thankful
and
blessed
to
be
the
superintendent
of
a
district
that
really
came
together
this
year
and
every
year
to
focus
on
students.
D
So
with
that,
I'm
going
to
move
that
we
had
several
members
several
board
members
as
well
attend
the
statewide
reading
symposium
and
it
was
run
quite
well.
It
was
friday,
saturday
and
sunday
so
a
lot
of
time,
but
its
focus
was
there
right
in
line
with
the
board
goal
of
our
reading
goal,
that
all
students
meet
that
goal
of
reading
and
we
have
80.
D
In
fact,
the
research
demonstrates
that
actually
95
of
all
people
have
the
ability
to
learn
to
read
and
that
reading
is
the
mother
of
all
learning
and
it
comes
before
all
other
learning
and
and
really
the
state
utilized
expertise
pulled
in
in-state
expertise,
out-of-state
expertise
to
really
discuss
the
situation
we
are
in
which
we
have
shared
that
alaska
isn't.
In
the
running
I
mean
we
are
really
score
last
our
students
do
and
many
times
in
anchorage.
D
We
want
to
say
well,
it
must
be
because
of
other
kids
and
those
kids,
but
really
our
kids,
as
you
know,
from
our
data,
although
it
is
on
the
upper
end
of
the
state
data,
we
still
are
not
where
we
want
to
be,
and
so
the
focus
we've
had
some
starts
and
stops
in
regard
to
being
laser
focused
on
this
part
of
it
was
the
last
two
years,
but
I
am
confident
that
we
can
rally.
We
know
what
to
do.
D
We
know
how
there
is
the
science
is
behind
it,
so
I'm
quite
excited
about
that.
So
thank
you.
I
know
member
lessons
attended
and
member
bellamy.
D
So
thank
you
and
then
finally,
we
have
shared
I've
been
asked
by
three
different
board
members
in
regard
to
the
school
bond
and
about
looking
into
the
future,
and
we
wanted
to
share
while
there's
lots
going
on
at
the
the
state
level
in
the
legislature
right
now
in
regard
to
bond
debt,
reimbursement,
actually,
capital
improvement
projects,
many
of
those
are
asd
specific
and
targeted
right
now,
it's
it
hasn't
been
approved
yet
in
the
budget,
but
we're
quite
proud
of
the
organization
of
how
we
have
gone
about
to
be
able
to
be
really
in
competition.
D
If
you
will
to
be
granted
some
of
those
statewide
funds,
specifically,
though
we
were
asked
about
the
bond
and
when
what's
going
to
come
next-
and
it
was
suggested
to
study-
and
I
I
wanted
the
board
to
know
that-
not
only
do
we
study
the
bond
after
the
bond,
we
study
the
bond,
we
do
research
in
regard
to
should
we
bond
and
this
year.
D
Many
of
the
changes
to
that
bond
were
as
a
result
of
survey
feedback
that
we
had
received
prior
to
the
bond
and
then
again
the
post
bond
survey
really
supports
what
we
had
found
out
prior
to
and
and
really
it's
the
sign
of
the
times.
D
It
was
an
expense,
and
so
I
just
wanted
to
share
that
and
the
data,
and
we
can
share
some
time
to
dig
into
that,
but
wanted
to
assure
the
board
that,
yes,
their
involvement
with
the
community
involvement,
with
our
expertise
on
our
kayak
committee
as
well.
As
you
know,
empirical
evidence
and
surveys
all
go
into
those
recommendations,
and
now
we
have
additional
information
and
we
will
provide
it
forward,
so
just
wanted
to
show
that
we
have
it.
D
And,
madam
president,
that
concludes
my
superintendent
update
next
week.
Graduations.
Actually,
we
have
one
tomorrow,
which
is
our
first
podea,
but
they
will
continue
to
the
very
last
day
of
school
with
some
of
our
smaller
schools
and
it's
just
a
time
to
celebrate.
So
thank
you
very
much
to
the
board.
You're
all
signed
up
for
different
times
and
it's
an
exciting
time
in
asd.
Thank
you.
A
Thank
you,
dr
bishop.
Are
there
any
questions?
Yes,
remember
lessons
on
the
superintendent's
update.
Yes,.
I
Thank
you
not
on
the
bond,
but
I'm
gonna.
I
will
look
at
this.
I
appreciate
that
I
was
hoping
you
could
update
the
board
and
the
public
on
the
assembly's
recent
actions
with
respect
to
the
question
of
sro
funding
and
where
we're
at
right
now
and
how
we
might
expect
the
district
could
move
forward.
D
Sure
sure
thank
you
through
the
president
to
member
lessons
the
assembly
supported
funds
again
for
the
sro
program
and
and
prior
to
that
time
they
had
been
taken
out
of
a
budget
recommended
through
here
to
put
back
in
the
budget.
They
didn't
come
through
initially
in
the
first
quarter,
we're
still
waiting
on
those
funds,
but
now
the
assembly
supported
moving
forward
and
paying
for
the
sro.
D
So
we
have
not
met
jim
anderson
is
out
of
town
at
a
conference,
actually
not
a
conference
at
training
with
edunomics
and
when
he
returns,
we
will
meet
with
them.
A
I
would
like
to
since
we
are
extremely
early
tonight.
I
would
like
to
I
see
that
a
couple
of
people
that
signed
up
to
speak
I'd
like
to
go
back
up
to
kay,
if
that,
if
the
board
is
okay
with
that
modification,
anybody,
not
okay
with
it,
it's
just
a
procedural
all
right,
so
we
have
two
people
that
signed
up
that
were
not
here
in
the
beginning
and
I'd
like
to
go
back
to
them.
K
Good
good
evening,
thank
you
very
much
for
this
opportunity
to
testify
again.
I
really
appreciate
you
all
taking
public
comment
week
after
week
after
week.
I'll
be
brief.
Tonight
I
just
wanted
to
say
a
couple
things
about
inlet
view:
school.
K
I'm
sure
you
guys
keep
up
with
the
letters
to
the
editor
and
all
the
different
things
that
have
gone
on
since
the
bond
failure,
but
I
just
would
like
to
mention
personally
since
I've
lived
in
the
neighborhood
for
so
long
and
been
a
friend
of
inland
view
school
for
so
long
that
no
neighborhood
should
have
to
go
through
what
we've
gone
through
in
terms
of
discussion
and
meetings.
K
Ever
since
we
found
out
about
this,
the
anchorage
school
district's
plans
to
move
to
school
in
september
of
2021,
and
I
urge
you
going
forward
with
whatever
your
plans
are
to
please
consider
community
involvement
up
front
and
avoid
this
whole
mess
that
we've
gone
through
for
the
last
well.
What
is
it
six
months,
eight
months,
nine
months,
we're
very
supportive
of
the
school
district
and
have
been
the
entire
40
years.
K
L
Good,
yes,
okay,
what
I
what
I
have
given
you
is
an
aerial
image
of
inlet,
useful
with
its
existing
improvements,
and
then
the
proposed
design
improvements,
superimposed
on
in
black
outline
and
then
handwritten-
and
I
hope
you
can
read
them-
are
the
street
names.
L
L
I
it's
just
not
feasible,
it's
not
safe
and
more
practical,
and
these
are
the
reasons
I
would
like
to
bring
out
one
there.
As
you
can
see,
there
really
isn't
room
to
move
construction
equipment
around
to
build
a
school
between
the
old,
the
proposed
new
school
and
the
existing
school.
The
students
are
going
to
be
subject
to
the
noise
vibration
dust
and
danger
by
being
being
next
to
a
construction
site.
When
I
was
in
the
fourth
grade,
I
had
had
the
same
situation,
so
I
speak
from
experience.
L
And
also
if
the
proposed
parking
loop
cuts
through
the
end
of
the
existing
school,
so
you'll
be
demolishing
part
of
the
school
anyway
during
construction,
including
a
buffer
zone
around
the
construction
area,
which
will
include
a
large
amount
of
gravel,
because
the
school
ground
is
actually
about
seven
feet
below
the
road
grade
there.
At
the
north
end.
L
Now
I've
heard
parents,
school
staff
complaining,
and
rightly
so,
that
the
drinking
water
is
awful
and
the
sewer
system
is
even
worse
and
I
take
this
real
seriously.
You
take
it
seriously
and
if
you
it's
just
very
optimistic
to
think
that
a
plumbing
system
that
was
rated
at
being
at
the
end
of
its
service
life
in
2014
is
going
to
sustain
itself
through
a
construction
period
with
the
pounding
and
vibration
of
construction
and
moving
equipment.
It's
not
going
to
work,
it's
going
to
fail
even
more
catastrophically.
L
Now
we've
heard
that
proposed
construction
will
be
two
to
three
years.
That's
a
long
time
to
have
kids
in
that
bad
situation.
E
None
other
than,
as
we
all
know,
it's
the
start
of
the
season
for
culminating
activities.
I've
been
to
the
spanish
immersion
graduate
cohort
and
the
international
baccalaureate
cohort,
and
I
it
always
just
impresses
on
me
again
how
strong
the
connection
of
our
cohort
groups
are
to
the
district
and
to
each
other.
It
is
a
bond
far
and
away
over
what
what
we
normally
see
in
students
in
our
neighborhood
schools,
and
I
I
keep
trying
to
think
of
ways.
E
We
could
capture
that
among
our
less
cohorty
groups
that
that
are
in
the
district.
But
when
you
look
at
how
our
immersion
students
feel
about
the
district
and
about
their
fellow
students-
and
you
look
at
how
the
groups
that
are
in
these
special
groups
feel
it,
it
really
is
an
amazing
thing,
it's
good
for
us,
it's
good
for
them
and
just
something
we
want
to
want
to
keep
an
eye
out.
So
thank
you.
I
Sure
I
think
I
can
announce
that
the
next
new
finance
committee
meeting
will
be
on
may
24th
again
at
noon,
so
we
can
put
that
on
our
calendars.
I
wanted
to
reflect
that.
Yes,
I
got
to
go
to
two
conferences
over
the
past
long
weekend.
I
The
first
one
was
on
law
and
policy,
and
it
was
really
the
best
overview
of
alaska
educational
law
that
I've
received
on
the
board
and
when
board
members
often
get
emails
or
read
documents
referring
to
this
case,
or
that
case,
and
it
was
really
important
for
me
to
just
understand
how
we
we've
gotten
to
the
point
that
we're
at
so
it
was
a
really
solid
piece
of
work
that
I
benefited
from,
and
I
also
really
appreciated.
There
was
another
good
funding
piece
as
well.
I
How
does
the
money
work-
and
it
made
me
think
that
I'd
like
to
know
more
about
the
relationship
between
spending
and
student
growth,
not
just
spending
in
outcomes?
That
was
something
that
we
touched
on,
but
I
was
sort
of
intrigued
by
thinking.
Okay,
how
can
we
look
at
really
the
question
of
growth
and
then,
as
far
as
the
reading
conference,
it
was
astounding
to
walk
into
a
ballroom
filled
with
eight
nine
hundred,
a
thousand.
H
I
And
there
is
a
groundswell
of
support
across
the
state
and
and
certainly
here
in
asd,
to
make
sure
that
kids
have
the
fundamentals
to
learn
to
know
how
to
read
so
that
they
can
have
a
successful
life.
There
was
a
really
compelling
slide
that
underscored
that,
no
matter
what
our
students
do,
whether
they
go
to
the
military,
whether
they
go
to
college,
whether
they
enter
the
workforce
there
are.
I
There
are
thresholds
for
the
kinds
of
skills
that
they
need
to
have
to
navigate
those
different
outcomes
after
the
after
their
high
school
career
ends.
So
I
thought
that
was
really
compelling.
I
I
wanted
to
share
that
one
of
the
materials
that
I
received
this
alaska's
reading
playbook
is
available,
I
think,
as
a
pdf
on
the
deed
website.
So
that's
something
that
if
you
didn't
get
a
nice
little
spiral
notebook,
you
can
go
look
for
and,
as
I
was
reading
through
it,
I
was
really
struck
by
there's
a
lot
that
our
teachers
are
being
asked
to
to
learn
in
new
ways.
I
But
I
was
also
really
struck
by
the
importance
of
auditory
processing
skills
and
oral
vocabularies,
and
those
are
things
that
I
think
that
I'm
hopeful
that,
if
sb
111
can
pass
right,
it
will
help
with
preschool
access
really
working
on
that
birth
to
age,
five
period
of
life,
so
I'm
kind
of
I'm
still
focused
on
improving
that
kindergarten
readiness
so
that
our
teachers
will
be
able
to
do
what
they
need
to
do
in
the
classroom.
I
But
if
our
students
don't
come
in
with
a
strong
vocabulary
and
if
they
don't
come
in
with
the
basic
auditory
skills
that
makes
the
work
harder
for
our
teachers,
so
anyways,
I'm
just
sort
of
taking
this
longer
moment
to
reflect
on
two
very
compelling
conferences
here
in
anchorage.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
F
Yes,
so
I've
I've
had
a
busy
couple
of
weeks,
which
has
been
wonderful
april,
was
month
of
the
military
child,
which
provides
a
chance
to
recognize
and
thank
the
children
of
our
service
members
and
veterans.
So
I
took
a
tour
of
orion
elementary
on
base,
which
was
wonderful.
I
also
to
take
a
tour
of
our
fine
arts
program,
which
is
also
housed
on
jay.
Bear
it's
just
amazing.
How
much
information
store
it
there?
F
It
was.
It
was
fantastic.
I
also
took
a
tour
of
the
youth
programs
on
jbear,
which
was
fantastic.
They
they
provide
fantastic
services
for
for
their
students,
a
military
students-
and
I
I
just
wanted
to
share
with
the
rest
of
the
board
that
adele
dan
adele
daniels
is
the
jay
baer
school
liaison
program
manager
and
she
is
willing
to
schedule
a
tour
for
additional
or
for
other
board
members.
F
If
you
guys
want
to
tour
the
youth
programs-
and
she
is
also
hoping
to
plan
a
tour
of
the
jaybear
facility
in
the
fall
for
our
new
superintendent
for
board
members
for
cabinet
members,
so
I'm
super
excited
to
to
see.
I've
never
actually
took
a
tour
of
base.
So
that
one
I'm
super
excited
about,
I
attended
a
child
wellness
event
via
el
nino
at
mountain
view,
elementary
or
bound
view
library.
This
past
weekend
and
asd
had
a
vendor
table.
F
So
I
just
wanted
to
say
thank
you
to
member
jacobs
member
higgins
who
joined
me
in
in
participating.
In
that
event
and
big,
thank
you
to
senior
director
of
healthcare
services,
kate
mcclelland,
for
helping
at
the
table.
She
was
there
the
entire
event
so
kudos
to
her
for
for
spending
the
day
there,
but
it
was.
It
was
awesome.
I
had
such
a
good
time
connecting
with
other
organizations
in
town
and
seeing
the
kids
and
the
families.
It
was
wonderful.
F
Also,
congratulations
to
nurse
laurel
andrews
who
received
the
2022
alaska
school
nurse
of
excellence
award.
The
snea
award
is
intended
to
publicly
recognize
a
school
nurse
in
alaska
by
annually
honoring
one
school
nurse
who
has
demonstrated
excellence
in
their
school
nursing
practice
and
leadership
in
school
health.
So
thank
you
to
all
of
our
nurses,
of
course,
and
congratulations
to
nurse
andrews.
F
I
would
also
see
I've
got
this
all
written
down,
so
I've
got
a
bunch.
I
would
like
to
acknowledge
that
may
is
asian
american
and
pacific
islander
heritage
month
and
celebrating
the
achievements
and
contributions
of
asian
americans
and
pacific
islanders
also
again
want
to
recognize
that
it's
teacher
appreciation
week
and
thank
you
to
all
of
our
teachers
and
all
of
our
school
staff
for
all
the
work
that
you
do
with
our
students
and
families.
It's
amazing
work
and
congratulations
to
our
graduates.
So
I
look
forward
to
participating
in
graduations.
F
A
M
So
our
twins
are
in
middle
school
track,
which
is
really
exciting
to
me
as
a
former
shot
putter
in
middle
school
or
whatever,
and
on
the
I
found
myself
at
the
track,
meet
listening
to
some
music
and
in
particular
the
staple
singers,
and
there
was
just
this
one
lyric
really
caught
my
attention
and
it
just
seemed
really
appropriate
for,
as
we
think
about
children
and
them
becoming
adults,
and
it
does
come
with
a
requests
for
forgiveness
from
our
english
teachers.
M
G
Thank
you,
madam
president,
just
wanted
to
thank
member
wilson
and
staff
for
facilitating
the
excellent
health
fair
event.
This
weekend.
I
also
had
the
privilege
of
stopping
by
the
midtown
mall
and
meeting
some
of
our
king
tech
entrepreneurs
and
getting
a
head
start
on
some
mother's
day
gifts.
So
thank
you
for
that
wanted
to
again
express
congratulations
for
our
graduates,
it's
that
time
of
year
and
I'm
looking
forward
to
meeting
some
of
them
shaking
their
hand
on
stages,
and
it
is
teacher
appreciation,
day
and
teacher
appreciation
week.
G
I
think
everyone
who
wants
to
take
just
a
moment
to
engage
in
some
activism
in
that
regard
should
reach
out
to
their
legislator
and
encourage
the
passage
of
house
bill
220,
which
would
address
retirement
issues.
Thank
you.
N
D
N
So
it
really
means
a
lot
to
me
so
for
all
the
board
members
that
spoke
quickly.
Thank
you
as
well.
N
I
I
it
is
a
time
of
celebration
with
the
graduations,
but
it's
important
to
congratulate
all
the
parents
and
the
teachers
and
the
staff
that
made
it
happen
when
these
kids
graduate
it
changes
their
opportunities
for
the
future.
It
opened
doors
you
can't
even
get
in
the
military
without
a
high
school
diploma.
They
don't
want
the
ged.
They
got
all
these
other
issues
it
it
just
gives
them
an
opportunity
and
it
impacts
the
the
future
of
those
kids,
and
that
means
so
much
to
me
in
regards
to
that.
N
I
remember
when
I
first
got
on
the
school
board
back
in
2008,
it
was
a
little
over
60
graduation.
When
I
got
off
it
was
over
80
and
I've
realized
how
many
kids
that
were
involved
and
how
many
families
it
touched
and
how
much
it
made
a
difference.
That
brings
me
to
the
whole
issue
of
reflection.
This
is
a
today
is
swearing
in
for
two
elected
school
board.
Members.
Congratulations
and
it
means
a
lot,
and
this
is
the
this
year.
We
have
an
opportunity
to
try
to
make
a
change.
N
The
change
this
year
is
more
focused
on
academics.
Trying
to
do
things.
What
can
we
do
to
improve
these
kids
and
being
elected
to
oppositions?
What
are
we
going
to
do
and
what
accountability
do
we
hold
ourselves
to
make
this
happen?
It's
going
to
be
a
year
of
change,
I'm
very
optimistic
with
that.
We'll
have
to
be
dealing
with
changes,
but
the
problem
we
have
is
that
we
got
two
years
before
we
hit
a
fiscal
cliff,
and
that
means
we
have
a
very
limited
time
to
be
able
to
move
quickly
with
changes.
N
If
we're
going
to
do
that-
and
I
know
the
board
has
to
work
with
the
superintendent
to
end
with
staff,
we
all
have
to
be
together
with
that
with
parents
to
bring
about
change,
but
that
is
to
me
it's
a
big
reflection,
because
if
we
don't
succeed,
we
we
turn
down
the
opportunity.
We
didn't
succeed
in
the
opportunity
to
change
so
many
lives
so
much
for
these
kids.
N
That
will
not
get
the
same
opportunity
as
they
would
have
gotten
otherwise
and
that
that
disturbs
me
deeply
keeps
me
awake
sometimes
at
night
thinking
about
what
I
could
have
done
should
have
done
and
wish
I
had
done
in
retrospect.
So
I
just
asked
the
board
and
every
in
the
staff
to
look
at
it
and
say
what
you
know:
how
committed
are
we
to
achieving
better
goals,
and
what
are
we
willing
to
do
and
to
make
it
happen,
is
the
wit
system,
which
is
whatever
it
takes,
and
to
go
forward.
N
With
that
a
comment
on
the
bond
with
inlet
view.
I
appreciate
the
comments
in
line
with
that.
I
don't
think
the
board
is
going
to
ignore
the
fact
that
we
have
an
issue
with
inlet
view.
How
we're
going
to
do
with
the
bonds
and
how
we're
going
to
go
forward
is
something
the
board's
going
to
have
to
struggle
with,
but
we
have
so
much
deferred
maintenance.
You
know
hundreds
of
thousands
of
dollars
one
hand
from
you
know
more
than
500
000.
N
I
forgot
the
number
just
in
roofs
and
all
the
other
changes
and
then
the
schools
that
are
deteriorating
so
we've
got
some
big
issues,
but
maybe
a
little
hope.
Maybe
the
legislature
might
step
up
and
bond
a
little
bit
of
it
and
if
so,
we
need
to
move
into
it
quickly.
Take
advantage
of
that
and
work
with
the
public
to
do
that,
and
also
to
say
thank
you
for
the
mountain
view,
the
health
fair.
N
There
was
very
interesting
because
met
so
many
different
groups
there
that
are
providing
health
care,
regardless
of
whether
you
had
insurance
and
so
to
come
in
there
and
to
watch
how
they
function
and
work
is
really
interesting.
I'm
very
familiar
with
the
alaskan
native
health
care
system.
Where
they
get
a
chump
of
money,
then
they
get
to
provide
health
care
to
everybody.
They
can
collect
if
it's
insurance
or
medicare
or
medicaid,
but
they
don't
charge
more,
and
so
nobody
is
turned
down
and
everybody
gets
it
covered
and
it
works.
N
And
what
they're
doing
there
in
many
ways
parallels
that
when
I
was
talking
to
them
and
listening,
they
got
some
money,
then
they
collect
what
they
can,
but
everybody
gets
health
care.
It's
it's
a
beautiful
thing
to
watch
in
a
community
where
people
that
many
groups
are
out
there
providing
health
care,
so
my
appreciation
to
all
the
participants.
A
Thank
you
very
much,
dr
bishop.
Do
you
have
any
final
comments?
No
I'd
just
like
to
thank.
They
don't
have
to
be
final.
D
Remember
lessons
in
regard
to
just
the
focus
on
reading
and
the
monumental
task
and
understanding
that
words
do
matter
what
the
words
that
kids
know
and
and
in
our
district,
if
we
think
about
our
teachers
with
so
many
different
languages
being
spoken,
our
kids
have
these
superpowers
of
second
languages
just
haven't,
heard
english,
and
so
really
empowering
teachers
through
high
quality
professional
development.
D
A
solid,
evidence-based
program
will
will
help
with
that,
because
we
we
we
do
have
a
big
task
ahead
of
us,
but
we
know
what
to
do,
and
the
future
looks
great
thanks.
Thank
you.
A
Very
much
so
I
would
like
to
just
first
of
all.
I
just
would
like
to
just
remember
a
dear
friend
and
colleague
that
has
that
gave
a
lot
of
years
to
the
anchorage
school
district
in
various
capacities
we
served
as
principals.
Together
we
served
as
hr
professionals
together
we
actually
raised
our
girls
together
for
a
part
of
our
career,
and
that
is
teresa
johnson.
So
I'd
like
to
have
a
moment
of
silence
for
teresa
and
her
family.
A
And
I
thank
you
for
that.
I
know
there
will
be
a
service
memorial
service.
I
think
it's
may
11th.
I
will
send
that
out
to
the
board
if
anyone
is
interested.
A
The
science
of
reading
symposium
really
was
an
amazing
learning
event
for
me
and
it
it
wasn't
that
I
it
wasn't
that
I
learned
it
wasn't
that
it
was
new
but
to
see
all
those
people
with
all
that
expertise.
You
know
we
don't
we.
We
are
in
a
learning
mode
as
a
board
the
experts
and
what
they
say
and
what
the
science
has
proven.
A
Our
kids
can
be
success,
and
I
don't
see
this
as
a
this
or
that
we
are.
We
are
on
a
a
track,
a
continual
track
of
success
for
all
kids
and
when
it
comes
to
reading
you
know
you
know
this
is
I
always
I've
always
thought
in
my
mind
that
reading
really
is
a
human
right,
but
when
the
practice,
when
the
professionals
that
actually
do
the
work
every
single
day,
they
work
with
teachers,
teachers
work
hard-
I
mean
it
just
it
just
gave
me
a
whole
different
level
of
respect.
A
When
I
heard
about
the
currency
of
reading,
I
never
thought
of
reading
as
a
currency,
but
if
our
kids
don't
bank
get
the
reading
in
the
bank,
they
are
not
going
to
come
out
of
poverty.
They
are
not
going
to
be
successful,
so,
yes,
it
is
partly
what
what
anything
it
takes,
but
the
reality
is
there's
so
many
things
that
that
we
that
that
public
schools
have
to
we've
got
to
reconcile.
A
A
That's
that's
what
it
is
and
that's
for
every
single
kid.
So
yes,
it
is
a
human
right
and
we've
got
to
treat
it.
That
way.
Just
like
our
right
to
freedom
of
speech,
our
kids
have
a
right
to
read
and
and
and-
and
I
think
we
are
on
the
path
to
do-
that-
our
goals
and
our
guard
rails.
That's
our
north
star,
that's
our
guiding
light.
A
If
we
stick
to
it,
if
we
choose
to
stick
to
it
and
the
other
part-
and
I
do
agree
with
kelly
on
that-
the
policy
and
law-
I
almost
dropped
out
of
the
policy
in
law,
but
I
didn't,
but
I'm
glad
I
went
because
that
presentation
that
kelly
mentioned
about
the
history
of
education
in
alaska-
and
you
know
I
put
pieces
together,
but
it
was,
it
really
came
together
in
that
presentation.
A
I
think
we're
going
to
try
to
forward
to
communications
to
maybe
include
on
our
list
of
board
resources,
because
it
really
did
give
an
overview.
We
didn't
just
get
here
where
we
are
yesterday
or
the
year
before
the
year
before
that
it's
been
decades
in
the
making,
and
so
I
thought
that
was
really
good
and
the
other
piece
for
me
was
this:
this
company
called
there
were
two
companies.
I
was
impressed
with.
One
was
at
economics,
and
I
was
so
happy
to
hear
that
jim
was.
A
We
had
some
people
that
were
going
for
training,
because
it
really
was,
I
mean,
that's
their
work.
Their
work
is,
you
know,
looking
at
helping
districts
figure
out
where
the
money's
going
and
and
how
to
how
to
how
to
have
the
conversations
that
we
need
to
have
around
the
money.
I
think
and
jim
does
a
great
job,
but
that
I
found
that
very,
very
useful,
and
so
the
only
other
thing
I
have
I
do
want
to
thank
jim
anderson
and
carl
for
going
to
the
assembly.
A
I
thank
mj
for
making
sure
my
my
let
the
letter
that
we
sent
out
requesting
that
the
assembly
you
know,
reconsider
and
give
us
back
the
give
us
the
the
sro
funding
back
and
so
far
that's
holding.
A
I
would
like
to
invite
board
members
who
who
helped
to
organize
and
staff
members
who
helped
to
organize
the
betty
davis
youth
summit.
We
had
a
follow-up
to
that
summit
on
sunday
with
the
alaska
black
caucus.
There
were
asd
students
talking
about
how
to
make
their
schools
their
communities
places
where
there's
no
hate,
and
it
was
if
you
have
time
it's
about
an
hour,
but
listen
to
the
what
the
kids
say.
This
is
kids
from
grades
2
to
grade
11..
A
They
know
they
have.
They
have
comments,
they
have
feelings
about
this.
They
have
experiences
that
they
share
and
so
I'd
like
to
and
I'll
get
the
link
for
you
to
send
it
out
and
if
board
members
are
interested
in
a
base,
tour
katie
said
she
will
organize
one
for
us
all
right,
that'll
be
great,
and
those
are
all
my
comments.
A
A
Well,
we
appreciate
the
work
that
you
all
do
every
single
day
in
every
way,
with
that
I'll
entertain
a
motion
to
adjourn.
