Welcome,
I
am

I
would
like
to
thank
the

for
your

today.
At

In
keeping
with
tradition,
the
senior
class
president
is
given
the
opportunity
to
address
their
class.
Conor
mckee
has
served
as
class
president
since
2018
during
his
time
at
southern.
He
was
an
exceptional
student
in
the
avid
program
and
an
outstanding
athlete.
He
was
three
sport
athlete
for
most
of
his
time
at
southern
he
was
a
member
of
the
cross
country
team,
as
well
as
indoor
and
outdoor
track
teams.

F
But
the
memories
and
friendships
we've
made
throughout
our
years
at
southern
mean
more
than
any
accomplishment.
I've
always
admired
the
perseverance
and
resilience
showcased
by
our
class
knock
us
down.
9
times
we
get
up
10.,
we
may
have
stumbled
tripped
or
even
face
planted
throughout
the
years,
but
as
a
class,
we've
always
supported
each
other
and
offered
a
shoulder
to
cry
on
and
lifted
each
other
back
up
after
running
track
for
four
years.
I
couldn't
write
this
speech
without
including
track
in
some
way.

Former
u.s
olympian,
steve
prefontaine
has
said
the
following
quote:
to
give
anything
less
than
your
best
is
to
sacrifice
the
gift
everyone
here
has
their
own
set
of
unique
and
meaningful
gifts
and
talents.
I
encourage
everyone
to
embrace
their
individuality
and
pursue
their
own
happiness.
This
is
your
world
for
the
taking.
I
hope
everyone
goes
on
to
pursue
their
dreams
and
passions
carefree
class
of
2022.
We
are
just
getting
started.
You
are
truly
an
amazing
and
outstanding
class.
I've
been
honored
to
be
your
class
president.
These
four
years.
Thank.

though
ms

G
This
graduation
ceremony
and
the
accomplishments
of
you,
our
graduating
seniors,
led
by
our
dedicated
principal
angela
hopkins
and
her
team,
are
the
definitive
moments
of
anne
arundel
county
public
schools.
I
want
to
also
recognize
so
many
who
have
made
this
graduation
a
reality
because
graduating
from
high
school
happens
by
design
and
it's
truly
a
team
effort.
G
They
are
here
to
share
this
rewarding
moment
with
you,
because
they
have
all
played
a
part
in
you
becoming
a
graduate
today
dedicate
themselves
year
after
year
to
finding
new,
innovative
ways
to
teach
you,
dr
george,
arlatto
and
his
administration
provide
the
road
map
to
make
sure
you
got
there
safe
and
sound,
even
despite
a
raging
pandemic.
Despite
the
uncertainty
we
as
a
community
faced
this
past
year,
together
and
every
year,
our
communities
and
local
businesses,
volunteers
and
civic
groups
rededicate
themselves
to
supporting
our
schools
all
so.
G
G
You
have
traveled
a
course
no
other
class
has,
and
you
have
done
it
with
grit
determination
and
a
willingness
to
adapt
to
circumstances
you
have
never
encountered.
The
diploma
you
have
earned,
represents
your
individuality
and
the
mark
you
have
made
on
southern
high
school
and
on
those
who
have
shared
this
journey
with
you.
G
I
have
no
doubt
of
the
potential
for
greatness
in
each
and
every
one
of
you
and
let's
not
forget
that
you
got
yourself
here
and
it
was
no
accident
through
the
wins
and
losses,
exams,
performances,
conferences,
concerts
and
even
coveted.
You
prevailed,
you
sat
in
the
classes,
did
the
work
in
school
and
at
home
practiced
the
drills
you
learned
to
become
active
in
your
education
and
all
those
lessons
and
hard
work
have
led
you
to
this
moment.
G
G
G
Remember
today
as
the
beginning
of
the
path
you
will
have
traversed
and
the
people
that
sent
you
forth
from
here,
the
dog
pound
is
going
to
miss
each
and
every
one
of
you
and
for
one
last
time
as
your
school
board
representative.
Let
me
just
say
our
bulldogs.
They
rock
on
behalf
of
anne
arundel,
county
board
of
education,
congratulations,
class
of.

H
I
Good
afternoon,
everyone
it
is
an
honor
to
speak
on
behalf
of
my
class,
so
to
my
class.
I
want
you
to
think
about
everyone
in
this
room
for
the
past
12
years
of
our
lives.
This
is
all
we
have
known
each
person
each
classroom
each
field,
each
stage
they've
all
been
vital
to
the
opening
chapter
of
our
lives,
but
the
story
of
you
that
everyone
here
knows
is
only
the
beginning.
I
I
I
I
I
We
have
this
one
life.
We
don't
have
time
for
excuses
time
to
regret
what
we
didn't
do
or
harp
on
failures
of
the
past.
When
we
take
the
time
to
look
back,
it
should
be
on
those
moments
that
made
us
smile
like
hearing
ms
shannon
blaring,
her
karaoke
microphone
down
the
hallway
or
seeing
the
three
musketeers.
I
J
Our
faculty
speaker,
mr
matthew
driscoll,
is
a
man
has
made
a
very
positive
impact
at
southern
high
school
in
his
nine
year
career.
He
is
dedicated
to
the
students
at
southern,
whether
you've
had
mr
school
as
teacher
or
not.
You've,
no
doubt
been
influenced
by
his
wisdoms
about
topics
such
as
surfing
gardening
or
beekeeping.
J
As
a
person
and
a
teacher,
mr
driscoll
has
been
able
to
find
a
unique
balance
between
high
expectations
while
maintaining
an
easy
going
nature.
He
loves
trying
new
things
both
personally
and
professionally.
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
it
is
my
pleasure
to
introduce
our
guest
speaker,
mr
matthew,
driscoll.
K
That
was
quite
the
introduction
good
afternoon,
teachers
staff
and,
most
importantly,
graduating
class
of
2022.,
I'm
here
for
a
very
important
reason
today
and
that's
to
tell
you
that
the
snow
crab
buffet
opens
at
four
o'clock.
K
I'm
here
today
for
the
same
reason
we're
all
here
today
and
that
is
to
celebrate
the
graduating
class
of
2022..
I
am
honored
to
be
standing
in
front
of
you.
I
have
to
talk
to
the
majority
of
you
most
likely
as
your
english
9
teacher
and,
if
not
that's
your
loss.
As
I
look
out
now,
I
can
still
see
those
ninth
grade
faces
staring
back
at
me.
Although
you
look
much
more
interested
now
than
what
I'm
saying
you
have
evolved
and
changed
and
grown,
you
came
to
us
embryonic
nasal.
K
Now
stand
at
the
threshold
of
adulthood,
the
real
world
that
world
is
ready
for
you
and
I
believe
you
are
ready
for
it.
But
what
is
the
real
world
for
the
last
12
years
of
your
life?
Us
teachers
have
been
telling
you
cautionary
tales
and
dire
warnings
of
this
real
world
when
you
get
out
in
the
real
world
that
won't
fly
in
the
real
world.
It's
almost
as
if
the
real
world
is
a
mysterious
island.
You
have
been
sailing
to
all
your
life
and
the
crew
has
been
telling
you
ominous
tales
of
this
new
land.
K
K
K
K
There
is
something
that
happens
at
the
end
of
this
stage,
though.
All
this
pomp
and
circumstance
is
not
for
naught.
A
transformation
happens.
Do
this.
When
you
get
your
diploma
and
return
to
your
seat,
give
yourself
a
once-over,
you
will
still
have
more
or
less
10
fingers
give
or
take
10
toes
two-ish
arms
and,
hopefully,
an
even
amount
of
legs.
K
The
transformation
that
has
taken
place
is
not
physical.
When
you
sit
back
in
that
seat,
you
will
still
like
and
dislike
the
same
things.
You
will
still
love
the
same
songs
and
the
same
food.
You
will
still
hate,
algebra
or
poetry,
whichever
side
of
the
brain
you
are
partial
to
the
transformation
is
not
mental.
You
yourself
would
not
have
changed
at
all.
What
has
changed,
though,
is
the
world
specifically
your
access
to
that
world?
K
You
now
have
unfettered
freedom
within
the
confines
of
national
international
maritime
law.
To
be
completely
and
uniquely
you,
those
of
you
sitting
there
thinking.
I
know
myself,
I've
been
me
forever
ask
yourself:
how
do
you
know
you've
spent
the
last
18
years
of
your
life
more
or
less
in
one
location,
learning
from
a
few
dozen
people
talking
to
a
few
dozen
friends
and
neighbors,
you
haven't
seen
what
the
world
has
to
offer.
K
You
mark
twain
famously
spent
the
first
half
his
life
as
a
boat
captain
up
and
down
the
mississippi,
not
writing
his
famous
novel
until
the
age
of
41,
which
you
would
later
repurpose
as
a
pillow
colonel
sanders
spent
time.
Selling
insurance
then
tires
before
he
realized
people
like
giant
buckets
of
food,
but
this
speech
is
not
dedicated
to
the
dogged
pursuit
of
a
singular
goal.
Its
purpose
is
quite
the
opposite.
This
speech
is
in
praise
of
purposeful
meandering
seeking
out
the
overlooked
nooks
of
life.
You
will
have
a
career
sure.
K
I
encourage
you
to
work
hard,
and
hopefully
you
will
do
something.
You
love,
but
one
day
that
career
will
end
and
you
will
be
left
with
you.
You
may
have
a
spouse,
maybe
not
some
kids
grandkids,
but
most
definitely
at
the
end
of
the
day,
there
will
be
you.
You
will
not
remember
the
day,
your
boss,
yelled
at
you
or
the
day
you
came
in
late
at
the
event.
K
You
won't
remember
the
presentation
you
crushed
or
the
zoom
call
you
missed,
but
you
will
remember
your
first
night
in
a
foreign
country
or
the
next
morning
when
you
try
to
order
breakfast.
This
speech
is
not
meant
to
rationalize
a
lazy
and
flighty
life.
I'm
telling
you
to
live
with
curiosity
and
passion
to
turn
over
rocks,
explore
those
nooks
to
scratch,
the
itches
and
peak
your
fancies
to
relish
in
moments
to
find
the
joy
and
the
mundane
and
happiness
in
the
uncomfortable.
K
K
Allow
yourself
to
get
lost
but
know
when
you
found
your
destination
live
in
the
moment,
but
let
go
of
the
moment
when
it
has
passed.
Graduating
seniors,
live
life
with
vigor
and
passion.
Your
existence
is
a
gift
with
no
receipt
for
return.
I
wish
you
happiness
and
all
your
years
to
come
and
remember
make
sure
you
visit
the
dentist
in
your
20s.
Thank
you
and
congratulations.
K
Our
next
speaker
is
miss
angie
hopkins.
Miss
hopkins
was
born
and
raised
in
arnold
county
and
her
roots
run
deep
in
anne
arundel
county.
Her
father
worked
as
an
anne
arundel
county
police
officer.
Her
mother
was
a
teacher
for
the
anne
arundel
county
public
school
system.
She
graduated
from
south
river
high
school
in
1992..
K
K
K
Miss
hopkins
served
as
an
assistant
principal
for
nine
years,
supporting
students
at
arundel,
south
river
and
chesapeake
in
2019.
She
was
hired
as
the
principal
of
southern
high
school.
Ms
hopkins
passion
and
love
for
southern
is
evident
in
all
her
interactions
with
the
students,
her
emphasis
on
building
relationships
with
the
students
and
building
a
culture
where
all
fields
valued
had
created
a
strong
southern
community.
It
is
my
pleasure,
the
woman
who
puts
the
pal
in
principle,
miss
angie
hopkins.
L
L
I
am
so
grateful
for
your
hard
work,
dedication
and
time
it
has
been
invaluable.
You
helped
me
make
today
a
truly
memorable
celebration
for
the
senior
class.
Thank
you
all
very
much
also.
I
would
like
to
thank
all
the
aacps
staff
who
work
relentlessly
behind
the
scenes
and
those
who
volunteer
today
to
make
the
celebration
a
great
one
before
we
move
forward
with
our
ceremony.
L
Gavin
and
griffin,
as
we
move
on
to
the
next
chapters
of
our
lives,
you
remain
close
to
our
hearts
and
will
always
be
a
part
of
our
southern
family,
miss
crocodile
before
we
begin
awarding
diplomas,
I
would
like
to
say
a
few
words
to
the
southern's
class
of
2022
graduates
for
the
greater
part
of
your
high
school
experience.
Together,
our
conversations
have
focused
on
the
pandemic
or
learning
how
to
deal
with
the
effects
of
the
pandemic.
L
L
Today,
our
sole
focus
is
celebrating
your
accomplishments
over
the
past
four
years
and
the
many
successes
to
come
in
your
future,
and
so
when
I
sat
down
to
write
my
speech
filled
with
words
of
wisdom,
I
decided
against
that
and
said
I
chose
to
wrote.
You
a
letter,
a
letter
to
convey
my
love,
appreciation
and
respect
for
each
of
you,
dear
class
of
2022.
L
I
want
you
to
know
how
thankful
I
am
to
be
a
part
of
your
life
when
I
interviewed
for
the
principalship
at
southern
high.
The
last
question
I
was
asked
was:
why
do
I
want
to
be
a
principal?
My
answer
was
I
love
working
with
students?
I
love
the
connections,
making
a
difference,
making
sure
each
of
them
reach
their
goals.
L
It
has
been
an
honor
to
serve
as
your
principal
of
southern
high
for
you
and
your
parents.
I
want
you
to
know
that
I
am
thankful
thankful
for
you,
except
accepting
me
into
my
family
and
to
your
family.
The
southern
highs
class
of
2022
is
truly
a
family
like
no
other
class
or
school
as
a
family.
You
love
support
and
cheer
each
other
on,
I'm
so
proud
to
be
a
part
of
this
family,
a
family
that
is
a
forever
friend.

You
have
taught
me
not
to
wait
for
things
to
get
better.
You
know
you
must
rise
to
meet
the
challenges
in
front
of
you.
Life
will
always
be
complicated
and
you
will
always
be
challenged.
There
will
be
moments
of
happiness
and
tears.
You
will
grow
and
change
as
you
move
forward
in
life.
Remember
that
you
are
strong
and
believe
in
yourself,
your
parents
and
family
have
raised
you
to
meet
every
obstacle
with
resilience
and
confidence.
L
L
L
You've
taught
me
that
everyone
has
a
story.
Knowing
everyone's
name
is
in
the
school
is
a
great
thing
as
a
leader.
Knowing
everyone's
story
is
a
better
thing.
You
have
taught
me.
The
way
you
make
others
feel
is
everything
and,
as
you
move
forward
in
life,
remember
that
everyone
has
a
story
that
we
may
not
know
nothing
about,
remember
to
treat
them
with
compassion
when
you
lead
lead
with
kindness.
Your
actions
reflect
your
values
and
beliefs
and
when
those
are
in
linemen,
you
will
always
have
your
integrity.
L
L
L
You
refuse
to
accept
things,
as
fact,
until
you
have
done
your
own
research
and
as
you
move
forward
in
life,
remember
that
you
have
to
experience
life
outside
the
phone.
I
promise
you.
You
will
learn
more
from
your
conversations
and
interactions
with
those
around
you
than
from
any
social
media
site.
Listen,
converse,
engage
this
spurs
growth
and
change,
and
with
that
you
are
part
of
the
one
most.
You
are
part
of
one
of
the
most
transformative
generations.
L
You
have
knowledge,
perseverance
and
confidence,
do
not
be
afraid
to
experience
new
things
for
the
unknown.
Often
teaches
you.
The
most
do
not
be
afraid
to
fail
for
in
that
failure,
you
will
rise,
do
not
be
afraid
to
stand
up
for
your
beliefs
for
not
in
for
in
doing
so.
You
will
leave
the
world
better
than
you
found.
It
remember
to
stay
true
to
yourself
in
the
process.
Do
not
allow
the
world
to
dim
your
light
that
shines
so
brightly
in
each
one
of
you.
