A
Hello
and
welcome
to
the
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools,
digest
bringing
you
news
about
the
people
and
programs
of
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools.
The
start
to
the
school
year
was
exciting
in
many
ways,
but
on
September
2nd
there
was
a
gas
leak
on
the
Pasadena
Peninsula
and
aacps
staff
jumped
into
action
to
support
students
who
were
stranded
at
schools
well
beyond
school
hours.
B
As
BG
e
Crews
handled
the
immediate
problem
and
police
work
to
help
motorists
navigate
the
snarl
traffic,
our
school
system
leaders
were
busy
making
and
altering
plans
to
get
students
home
from
schools
on
the
peninsula.
Part
of
these
plans
included
the
potential
to
feed
students
who
remained
at
Chesapeake
High,
School
and
Chesapeake
Bay
middle
school.
As
the
hours
ticked
forward
toward
the
evening,
it
became
evident
that
we
were
in
fact
going
to
have
students
still
with
us
at
dinner
time.
B
We
had
the
food
in
our
school
kitchens,
so
it
was
not
an
issue
at
all,
but
we
needed
to
get
the
staff
to
school
to
get
ready
to
serve
the
students,
meals.
That's
where
Sandy,
Shore
and
Misty
Pelly
come
to
the
rescue
they
navigated,
the
traffic
and
all
the
other
obstacles
to
get
to
Chesapeake,
Bay
middle
school
and
I
should
tell
you
it's
not
even
the
school.
B
They
work
at
on
a
daily
basis,
with
little
time
to
do
the
work
before
the
students
arrive
to
the
cafeteria
Sandy
and
Misty
prepared
hundreds
of
pizza
sticks,
which
is
one
of
our
students,
favorite
items
with
some
green
beans.
They
also
set
out
fruits,
fruit,
juice
and
milk
to
ensure
that
the
200
students
remaining
at
school
had
something
to
eat
and
drink.
Sandy
and
Misty
put
aside
their
own
schedules
to
focus
on
the
students
and
to
ensure
they
were
fed,
and
they
can
have
some
relaxation
on
what
was
a
very
long
day
for
everyone.
B
A
Sandy
and
Misty
are
The
Shining
examples
of
the
thousands
of
Staff
members
across
aacps
who
will
do
what's
best
for
students
embracing
the
true
definition
of
inclusion.
Annapolis
and
North
County
high
schools
have
been
named:
2022
Special,
Olympics
Champion
schools,
an
honor
earned
by
only
three
schools
in
Maryland
and
166
Nationwide,
with
a
motto
of
choose
to
include
the
Special
Olympics
Champion
schools
program,
promotes
social
inclusion
through
intentionally
planned
and
implemented
activities
that
create
School
climates,
where
students
with
disabilities
feel
welcome
and
are
routinely
included,
and
the
aacps
Unified
sports
program
does
just
that.
A
C
Food
and
the
monetary
gifts
that
we
receive
through
this
food
drive
help
us
serve
our
community
members
who
are
experiencing
food
insecurity.
So
there
are
80
000
residents
in
our
County
who
are
not
sure
where
their
next
meal
is
coming,
and
this
food
is
critical
to
helping
us
work
together
in
collaboration
with
our
70
Community
Partners,
located
across
the
county,
to
serve
our
community
members
who
are
facing
food
insecurity
from.

The
Maryland
State
Department
of
Education
has
approved
aacps's
plan
to
potentially
convert
inclement
weather
days
to
Virtual
instruction
days.
This
is
a
plan
that
simply
allows
for
some
flexibility
to
avoid
extending
the
school
year.
Well.
D
Snow
days
aren't
gone
in
Anne,
Arundel
County,
but
I
do
want
people
to
know
that
it
is
a
tool
that
we
will
utilize
on
those
days,
in
particular
when
we
know
that
we
have,
you
know,
sketchy
weather
so
we'll
make
those
judgment
causes,
but
a
cause
and
we'll
do
that
as
a
team
and
we'll
put
those
announcements
out.
But
I
just
want
to
make
sure
that
people
understand
that
even
with
this
approval.
