Description

Women of Vision awards are presented each year by the Arlington County Commission on the Status of Women as part of the March celebration of Women's History Month. The awards are given to individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to women's issues and have, over time, developed and communicated their vision for women and engaged community members and other leaders in order to realize this vision.

The award originated in 1988, and honored women and men from the community who have made outstanding contributions toward improving the lives of women and girls in Arlington. Each year, since 1998, the Commission honors women who are recognized for their accomplishments and contributions to improving the lives and opportunities for Arlington residents, especially women. Award recipients must live, work, or volunteer in Arlington.

On this edition of newsmakers Arlington's 27th annual women of vision awards honored women, who are inspiring innovation through imagination, a women of vision awards are presented each year by the Arlington County Commission on the status of women as part of the mark celebration of Women's, History, Month and award recipients live work or volunteer in Arlington. This is the Arlington Commission on women and I'm I'm, absolutely delighted that I get to be here tonight and that the Commission on women is remembering my 30 years of service to Arlington public schools.

It's always exciting when you get intelligent, capable women together, it's a different kind of conversation and women bring an important aspect of public life. I love it that we've got the different generations. It encourages younger women, it sort of inspires all of us and I think actually photos have been around for a while it kind of gives us a feeling. Yes, we can do this and stay involved. It's not all over there's a lot of good work to do that. Women can do and I'm just delighted to be here tonight. I think.

It's very important for the public to recognize the accomplishments of women. Another area that we need to work on is providing strong role models to our little girls and helping them understand that they really can be whatever they want to be so events like this help. People really understand that there are women out there that are accomplishing great things and making great contributions to their communities, and so I am very flattered to receive this award to be hard with history. Books around you know other women of accomplishment to as I understand.

It it's a new category to recognize a young woman of achievement, so I'm excited about that and honored they're acknowledging my involvement above and beyond my day. Job in local activities in the nonprofit sector, I've been involved with a Velcro traits Virginia and sharing that organization and also involves with getting dreams. Project ink off the ground which provides scholarship and mentorship for immigrant students. I think we need many more of these events today and into the future. So until we are treated completely as equals in all facets of life, I think it's necessary.
