Description
On June 2nd, 2023, Mayor Wu and city officials joined the Caribbean American Carnival Association of Boston (CACAB) for their 27th annual corporate breakfast, celebrating 50 years of the Caribbean Carnival Festival.
A
Good
morning
and
welcome
to
the
annual
corporate
breakfast
for
the
Boston
Carnival,
the
Caribbean
American
Carnival
Association
of
Boston
welcome,
I'm,
Robert
George
and
a
member
of
the
board
on
behalf
of
our
president
Michelle.
Once
again,
we
appreciate
having
each
of
you
in
here
you're
in
here,
because
you're
special
to
the
Caribbean
American
Carnival
Association.
The
work
we
do
each
year
is
done
because
of
your
support,
and
this
is
an
opportunity
to
say
thank
you,
I'm,
hoping
that
you
move
forward
work
with
us
in
the
future.
A
We
have
had
some
challenges
over
the
years,
but
50
years
of
anything
is
a
significant
amount
of
time.
So
I
would
like
to
give
yourself
a
big
round
of
applause
supporting
us
for
50
years
and
if
it's
one
time,
I'm
happy
to
be
in
a
room
whenever
we
have
these
events,
it's
the
safest
place
in
the
city
of
Boston,
because
you
have
all
the
drafts
of
Boston
PD
here
and
so
you
feel
extremely
safe.
A
B
Did
not
be
the
first
one
good
morning,
everyone
and
I
agree
I,
feel
really
safe
in
this
space,
with
all
our
Boston
police
and
our
D.A
here.
So
to
be
honest,
I'm
here,
because
Miss
Shirley
called
and
everyone
in
this
room
knows
when
Miss
Shirley
calls
you
answer
right
yeah.
So
that
is
why
I'm
here,
and
also
because
it's
a
birthday
celebration,
50
years
this
Carnival
Association
started.
B
And
it's
still
going
strong
through
everything
that
you
know
has
happened
in
the
city
over
50
years,
we're
still
Gathering
and
celebrating.
So
it's
so
important.
So
I
did
put
together
a
few
notes,
but
definitely
just
want
to
speak
from
my
heart,
saying:
I'm
grateful
to
have
Miss
Shirley
as
a
friend
in
her
introducing
me
to
this
organization
and
understanding
how
important
the
carnival
the
parade
growing
up
to
me.
B
Mom
has
been
saying
something
so
good
started
the
music,
but
thank
you
Miss
Shirley
and
the
entire
Caribbean
American
Carnival
Association
organization
and
the
board
members
who
I've
met
through
Miss
Shirley.
Your
Association
is
the
largest
by
pox
celebration
in
the
city
of
Boston
and
I
found
out
it
started
by
Ken
Bonaparte
Mitchell
back
in
1973.
When
then
mayor,
Kevin
White
launched
the
first
Caribbean
parade
since
then
many
times,
politicians
and
others
have
stepped
up
to
support
it.
B
This
year,
Ms
Shirley
asked
if
I
would
help
support
and,
of
course,
myself
and
our
team
said
absolutely.
We
couldn't
think
of
any
better
thing
to
do
than
celebrate
the
Caribbean
culture
here
in
the
city,
and
we
know
that
the
carnival
brings
together
people
from
all
different
backgrounds
and
communities
in
a
festive
and
inclusive
atmosphere.
It
also
offers
educational
opportunities
for
people
to
learn
about
the
Caribbean
history,
art,
music
and
traditions.
B
These
initiatives
promote
this
understanding
and
appreciation
and
I
do
believe.
It
encourages
the
dialogue
that
we
need
to
continue
to
have
in
our
city
among
all
of
our
different
Neighbors.
So
thank
you
for
all.
You
do
to
help
support
and
uplift
the
Caribbean
culture
in
highlighting
the
importance
in
recognizing
the
many
ways
our
Caribbean
neighbors
make
our
city
better.
So
thank
you,
Miss
Shirley,
thank
you
to
the
organization,
and
this
breakfast
is
the
kickoff.
To
many
weeks
now
celebrating,
leading
up
to
juvie,
which
I
went
to
last
year.
B
A
Thank
you,
councilor.
That's
the
way
she
said.
She's
attending
Juve
I
looked
over
the
past
from
the
Boston
police
and
the
rolling
their
eyes,
because
they
know
that's
a
significant
responsibility
that
she
finishes
the
day.
One
of
the
things
you
know
when
you
work
at
Mission,
Force,
she's,
very
specific
about
certain
things.
So
at
this
point,
I'm
going
to
call
to
the
floor
to
the
microphone
Reverend
Wayne
daily
for
the
invocation
and
blessing
of
the
vehicle's
wife
and
Wayne.
C
C
So
let
us
take
this
time
to
just
pray
and
give
thanks
for
the
food
God.
We
thank
you
God.
You
are
great
Allah.
You
are
awesome,
so
we
gathered
here,
oh
Lord,
just
to
thank
you
for
the
years
that
we've
come
together
to
celebrate
our
heritage.
We
thank
you
for
each
person
that
is
here
and
God.
We
thank
you
for
Miss
Shirley
for
her
insight
and
just
for
her
commitment
and
dedication
for
the
entire
board.
B
C
A
Before
being
the
show
refer
to
the
microphone,
there's
several
members
who
work
on
the
Carnival
committee,
all
the
board
members
for
the
kind
of
a
hybrid
American
Carnival
Association.
Can
you
please
come
outside
from
the
kitchen
all
the
members
from
the
association
and
just
raise
your
hand,
so
that
folk
can
acknowledge
you
I
know
they're
supposed
to
have
working
towards
not
sleep.
It's
nice
working
along
with
the
swimming,
but
we
have
a
number
of
them
over
there
twins
in
the
world
cupboard.
A
We
have
literally
acknowledge
them
for
all
that
they
do
because
I'm
telling
you
can
be
around
a
stressful
time,
making
sure
everything
happens
safely
and
productively
over
the
carnival
celebration.
But
before
we
move
forward
to
the
microphone
of
the
person
who
made
it
so
I
call
our
fearless
leader,
our
high
task
master
and
ensure
that
Carnival
exists
here
in
the
city
in
the
city
of
Boston,
missoul,
foreign.
D
Good
morning,
this
is
a
Caribbean
welcome
good
morning,
good,
wonderful,
well
you're.
Under
my
care
this
morning,
all
of
you
belongs
to
me
today.
First
I
would
like
to
bring
out
the
newest
member
of
our
advisor
board.
We
I
put
that
together
years
ago,
because
I
think
it's
important,
because
I'm
so
political
that
I
need
them
close
by
when
I
need
help.
Just
like
I
need
my
police,
Commissioners
and
the
police
officers
I
need
them
for
when
I'm
straight
or
when
I'm,
not
straight
so
I
would
like
to
introduce
David
Balin.
D
D
E
And
I'm
honored
to
be
here
amongst,
amongst
you
all
celebrating
the
50th
anniversary
of
this
wonderful
event,
I
mean
I,
grew
up
in
in
Roxbury
Dorchester,
High
Park.
You
know
all
about
Alban
Blue,
Hill,
Ave
I've
attended
the
carnival
a
million
times
pretty
much
every
year
of
my
life.
I
can
think.
I
can
remember
so
I'm
just
honored
to
be
a
part
of
this,
and
you
know
I'm
here
at
your
service.
D
And
you
all
met
the
the
board
members
The
Fabulous
team
that
work
under
me,
I,
don't
know
why
they
say
I'm
fearless,
it's
just
that
what
I
want
I
want.
That's
all
there
is
to
it
when
I
call
on
the
officers
from
B3,
my
darling,
guys,
I
work
with
them
and
when
I
call
them
they're
there.
For
me,
even
with
the
food
pantry
and
I,
am
so
entirely
grateful.
G
D
D
H
F
I
Yeah
well
good
morning,
everyone
missionally,
thank
you
so
much
for
this
amazing
opportunity
to
be
here
today
and
thank
you
to
everybody
all
the
supporters,
all
the
volunteers,
our
local
police
department.
Thank
you
to
everybody
who
came
together
today
to
celebrate
we're
really
really
excited
about
this
very
joyous
occasion
and
I
did
not
prepare
the
musical
selection
for
this
morning,
because
I
just
found
out
a
few
minutes
ago
that
I
was
going
to
be
providing
one
for.
I
But
what
Michelle
wants
for
surely
gets
so
we
are
going
to
do
our
best.
My
friends.
I
And
actually,
following
your
lead,
my
friend
I
actually
heard
you
playing
this
song
and
I
said
you
know,
that's
actually
a
great
song.
He
was
playing.
You
are
not
alone
and
I.
Don't
remember
all
the
words
I
just
gonna
do
a
few
lines
over
here,
but
I
think
that
it's
it's
actually
a
song.
I
The
reality
is
is
that
the
struggles
still
exist,
especially
as
it
pertains
to
our
mental
health
and
access
to
each
other,
and
the
world
has
changed,
and
we
still
are
seeing
less
of
each
other,
and
it's
due
to
events
like
this
and
due
to
community
getting
together
and
Gathering
and
having
face-to-face
conversations
and
not
just
Facebook
conversations
that
we
actually
stay
together
as
a
community
to
support
our
shared
values
and
to
lift
each
other
up
and
a
lot
of
times
we're
going
through
challenging
circumstances.
I
We
can
feel
alone
in
those
challenges
and
in
those
circumstances,
and
feel
a
sense
of
isolation
and
I
think
it's
importantly
important
that
we
continue
to
do
events
like
this
and
bring
people
together,
Miss
Shirley,
so
thank
you
for
the
opportunity
to
bring
people
together
to
celebrate
culture
and
Heritage
in
our
community
and
I
will
just
sing
this
very
refrendishing
for
you
with
friends.
Okay,
all
right.
H
E
I
D
D
Do
not
tell
me
that
you
only
eat
egg
and
bacon
yeah,
because
in
the
Caribbean
we
don't
eat
just
egg
and
bacon,
and
you
know
two
years
ago,
when
my
doctor
said
they
found
me
with
diabetes,
and
she
said
she
was
gonna.
Put
me
on
insulin.
I
said
no
you're,
not
because
the
only
thing
I
know
starts
with.
I
is
impeach
and
my
name:
ain't
Trump,
so
I'm
not
taking
it.
I'll
go
to
the
bush,
so
I
take
my
bush,
medicine
and
I
am
on
top
of
it.
D
She
said
I
can
only
eat
one
slice
of
bacon
and
I
said:
I
won't
eat
any
bacon,
because
one
slice
is
not
enough
for
me.
So
this
morning
we
have
provided
you
with
an
authentic
Caribbean
breakfast,
not
only
bacon
and
eggs
and
I
want
you
to
enjoy,
and
then
pinch
me
and
tell
me
how
you
like
the
Caribbean
style.
D
J
Well
well,
clearly:
I'm
not
prepared
I,
know
I
yeah
I'm,
just
gonna
say
you
know.
Caribbean
Festival
is
part
of
Boston,
it
has
been.
You
know,
since
I've
been
around
for
a
little
while
as
a
little
kid
like
similar
to
what's
already
been
said-
and
you
know
we
are
here
as
a
police
department
to
make
sure
it's
the
best
festival,
carnival
event
that
goes
on
in
the
city,
and
we
will
always
do
that
to
support.
J
Certainly
all
the
Caribbean
folks
in
the
in
this
city
and
there's
some
many
many
and
I'm
somehow
I
think
I'm
part
of
of
that
group.
But,
more
importantly,
you
know
we
are
here
to
to
be
the
best
part
as
we
can
be.
Surely
anything
she
needs
we're
here
to
make
sure
that
it
happens
and
I
appreciate
everybody
else
here
being
here
to
be
so
supportive
of
this
you
know
really
cherished
event
in
the
city
and
so
as
it
gets
larger.
J
J
D
K
You
know
something
said
that
Boston
is
the
Hub
of
the
universe
in
the
beginning
of
this
country.
What's
up
my
brother,
you
just
look
at
Boston
at
how
many
ethnicities
there
are,
how
many
cultures
there
are
and
that's
what
we're
talking
about
the
great
our
great
nation
began
here
and
when
you're
talking
about
the
Caribbean
Festival
right,
it
really
showcases
Boston
and
what
we
are
and
who
we
are
now
and
thank
you
since
you've
been
working
for
the
city.
K
She
knows
I'm
a
little
feisty,
so
oftentimes
she
brings
me
down.
It's
like
I
said
behave:
I'm
gonna
match
you
up
three
times:
We're
Young,
but
again,
thank
you
all
for
being
here
and
I'm
glad
the
media
is
here
as
well,
because
it
does
definitely
showcases
that
we
are
about
Community.
Thank
you,
commissioner
number
44
and
the
Command
Staff
of
Boston.
K
Love
my
family
love,
my
family
of
blue
love,
the
community
and
community
policing
means
all
of
us
are
in
this
together.
So
as
a
village
as
a
village
you're,
looking
great
we've
still
got
work
to
do,
but
you're
looking
very
special
this
morning
for
Miss
Schilling
Fred.
So
thank
you,
everybody.
Thank
you.
Okay,.
D
Now
I'm
bringing
up
a
very
special
person,
and
she
is
here
to
represent
our
father,
who
is
Kevin
White,
who
I
started
to
work
with
and
for
for
12
years
until
he
left
office.
But
I
want
you
to
know
if
he
was
not
around,
we
would
not
have
Carnival
because
he
made
it
happen
in
1973..
So
his
daughter
is
here
to
represent
him
today.
Patricia
White.
L
L
White
my
dad
believed
the
great
cities
are
built
with
great
neighborhoods.
He
looked
for
opportunities
to
honor
the
Traditions
that
celebrate
the
diversity
of
cultures
that
come
together
in
a
city
like
Boston,
so
that
each
and
all
parts
of
us,
our
family,
our
neighborhoods,
our
businesses
can
grow
and
thrive
in
unison
with
one
another.
L
The
Caribbean
American
Community
has
embraced
that
vision
and
Carnival
is
its
brightest
expression
with
Carnival.
We
share
and
celebrate
the
culture
of
this
community
with
colorful
costume,
pageantry
and,
of
course,
amazing
food.
It
is
one
of
the
most
remarkable
events
of
its
kind,
not
only
in
the
city,
but
in
this
country.
It's
something
that
all
bostonians
can
take
right
pride
in
on
behalf
of
my
dad.
I
applaud
everything.
This
great
event
represents,
and
all
that
it
brings
to
the
city
were.
M
I
L
L
We
wish
to
applaud
and
thank
her
for
her
loyalty
and
hard
work.
Her
dedication
to
this
community
and
this
city
is
worthy
of
our
deepest
appreciation.
We
can
all
celebrate
this
great
accomplishment
together.
Thank
you
for
your
continuance
of
this
culture
and
wish
you
an
even
brighter
future
for
another
50
years.
Thank
you.
D
H
D
N
Good
morning,
everybody
it's
good
to
see.
You
I'll
tell
you
one
thing:
I'm,
not
I'm,
not
going
to
get
up
here
and
sing:
I
I,
Can,
Make,
a
Joyful,
Noise
and
I
do
but
I
don't
think
you
want
to
hear
it.
It's
really
good
to
see
everybody
I
hope
that
you
are
enjoying
your
breakfast.
You
know
the
the
carnival
and
the
Caribbean
Festival
has
been
an
important
part
of
my
life
and
my
family.
For
for
many
years,
my
my
wife
is
Beijing
from
Barbados
from
mother-in-laws
training
and
we.
N
For
that,
and
we've
been
going
to
the
carnival
for
many
many
years
off
and
on
last
year
during
the
campaign,
with
all
the
provisions
that
I
marching,
that
was
the
only
one
that
I
could
get
my
entire
family
to
come
to
and
join
it,
and
they
really
really
enjoyed
themselves.
I
want
to
congratulate
this
organization
for
50
years.
That's
an
amazing
amazing
accomplishment.
N
Thank
you,
Shirley,
and
your
entire
board
for
everything
you
do
and
and
praise
God
that
we're
able
to
celebrate
the
heritage
of
so
many
people
from
my
Caribbean
Community
here
in
Boston
every
single
year
able
to
do
it
safely,
enjoy
and
appease,
and
it's
really
good
to
see
you
all
God
bless
you
Shirley
and
have
a
wonderful
day.
D
We
have
an
old
timer
in
the
Room
Linda
Dorsey
in
a
forest.
She
was
our
senator
and
I
know
that
she
fought
hard
for
budget
for
the
carnival
and
we
are
grateful
to
her.
We
would
like
her
to
say
a
few
words.
M
Thank
you,
Miss
schillingford,
good
morning,
everyone
good
morning,
everyone
an
incredible
celebration.
I
want
to
thank
you
for
this.
For
all
your
work
right
over
the
years,
I
mean
it
takes
everyone
working
together,
but
it
does
take
a
leader
and
that's
going
to
continue
and
persevere
and
really
bring
us
together
in
doing
this
work,
and
so
we're
so
happy
today
to
celebrate
Caribbean
culture
right,
my
parents
and
first
generation
American
and
we're
from
Haiti,
so
I
speak
Haitian,
Creole
and
so
I
am
just
happy
to
be
here.
M
D
Thank
you.
Thank
you
over
the
years.
Thank
you.
I
would
just
like
to
officially
introduce
our
board
because
I
know
that
they
stood
up
in
all
different
corners,
but
not
together
as
a
board,
and
that
shows
togetherness,
so
click
the
board.
Please
come
by
and
I
see
the
president
of
the
college.
F
Good
morning
I
know
you
all
said:
I
gave
a
hearty
good
morning
with
Linda
earlier,
but
I'm
going
to
say
it
again.
It's
a
beautiful
day.
We
don't
have
90
degree
days
in
June
very
often
so
we
get
to
celebrate
every
moment
of
sun
that
we
have
in
Boston
because
it
might
be
60
tomorrow
so
good
morning,
good
morning
and
happy
50th
anniversary.
F
And
you
know
our
our
histories
sharing
and
honoring
the
Legacies
are
so
important.
There
were
incredible
Visionaries
who
fought
over
a
decade
before
this
college
actually
started
in
1973.
They
fought
for
a
decade
to
have
this
college
in
this
community
for
this
community,
and
we
want
to
honor
that
and
share
that
Legacy
and
share
that
history
and
plan
for
the
next
50
years
plan
for
the
next
Generations
that
will
come
through
this
college.
Well,
that's
the
same
thing
with
the
Caribbean
Festival.
F
You
had
great
Visionaries
yeah
the
first
standing
right
here
who
had
a
vision
for
what
this
Festival
could
mean
for
the
city
for
our
community
and
sharing
and
honoring
and
being
proud
of
our
Legacy,
our
history
and
who
we
are
so
I
want
to
just
give
tribute
to
Ms
Shirley,
because
you
have.
You
are
a
great
Visionary
and
we're
going
to
be
planning
for
the
next
50
years
now.
I'm
sure
I
won't
be
here
to
celebrate.
D
F
Years
but
we
know
we're
planning
for
it
and
we
know
we're
taking
the
steps
that
will
this
institution
this
Festival
will
be
around
for
a
very
very
long
time.
So
it's
an
honor
for
us
to
host
and
be
with
you
this
morning
as
you
kick
off
the
celebration
and
the
festival,
and
we
look
forward
to
being
your
partner
and
your
collaborator
for
many
many
years
to
come.
So
thank
you
for
having
this
here
at
Roxbury,
Community
College.
Thank
you
for
sharing
this
important
year
with
us
and
I.
D
D
G
For
hosting
us
and
Miss
Shirley
Madam,
queen
of
Boston
and
one
of
the
most
important
economic
events
in
the
city,
one
of
the
most
important
cultural
events
in
the
city
and
a
piece
of
the
necessary
infrastructure
for
Boston.
So
I
just
want
to
add
to
the
chorus
of
voices.
Thanking
you
for
all
of
your
leadership.
G
All
the
ups
and
downs
you
don't
get
to
50
years
of
any
organization,
institution
or
infrastructure
without
a
lot
of
challenges
along
the
way
and
having
the
the
fight
inside
to
make
sure
that
you
power
through,
but
also
what
is
most
beautiful,
I
believe
about
the
carnival
and
all
of
the
events
and
all
the
people
and
groups
that
it
has
shaped
along.
The
way
is
the
joy
that
you
bring
to
every
Year's
fight
as
well.
G
The
freedom
of
being
able
to
walk
down,
Blue,
Hill,
Ave,
surrounded
by
I,
mean
there's
no
one
who
could
be
out
there
and
not
just
let
themselves
go
dancing
all
the
way
down.
So
you
you
take
this
opportunity
to
not
just
have
that
one
event
every
year,
but
also
to
make
sure
that
our
young
people
are
lifted
up,
that
the
culture
continues
and
that
every
generation
can
see
themselves
reflected
in
the
leadership
the
power.
The
opportunity
that
this
represents
as
well.
So.
H
G
Want
to
thank
today,
of
course,
all
my
colleagues
in
the
room,
those
who
are
an
elected
office
for
showing
up
those
who
are
in
public
service
for
all
that
you
do
to
keep
us
safe
and
healthy
and
connected
and
as
much
as
possible,
supported
in
the
resources
that
we
have
and
also
thank
you
to
the
sponsors
in
the
room.
This
is
really
important
that
you
are
here
generously
giving
to
make
sure
that
this
Festival
goes
for
another
50
years.
G
We
are
so
grateful
for
you
and
we
want
you
to
help
be
our
ambassadors
for
the
city
of
Boston
as
well,
and
go
out
and
sell
more
of
your,
your
friends
and
and
those
who
are
in
other
corporations
that
this
is.
This
is
necessary
to
make
sure
that
we
can
support
it.
This
year,
next
year,
10
50
years
down
the
line
and
I'm
going
to
be
doing
my
part
to
make
sure
that
we
can
make
some
more
calls
and
boost
the
sponsorship
levels
as
well.
