A
B
A
That's
beautiful,
beautiful
all
right,
listen
we're
going
to
be
well
we're
not
going
to
be
we're.
We
are
being
videotaped
okay,
so
once
you
be
mindful
of
that,
don't
walk
in
front
of
this
Podium
and
walk
behind
me.
Don't
pick
enough!
No
we're
gonna,
do
a
videotape,
all
right,
be
a
videotape
and
and
actually
you'll
be
able
to
watch
this
later
on
the
the
city
of
Boston,
Cable,
cable,
TV
line
all
right.
A
So
this
time
we're
gonna
have
remembrances
a
video
of
Calvin,
his
his
track
and
running
in
Boston,
and
then
a
video
of
Coach
Hayes,
followed
by
a
tribute,
a
youth
video
in
that
order,
come
on
clap
it
up.
Please.
C
C
A
I
apologize
you're
having
a
little
technical
difficulty,
but
we're
gonna
ask.

Thank
you.
A
Thank
you
at
this
time
we're
going
to
ask
Devon
McGregor
you
here
all
right.
A
F
F
F
Our
relay
team
became
known
as
The
Four
Horsemen.
To
this
day,
we
still
keep
in
close
contact
with
each
other
and
with
our
high
school
track
coach
Charlie
Hayes,
with
Calvin
as
I
and
collect.
We
won
race
after
race
throughout
New
England.
We
became
very
popular
and
well
known
by
our
competitors,
our
coaches
and
our
and
the
race
officials,
whether
it
was
during
his
race,
but
when
Calvin
got
the
Baton
during
the
relay,
the
cameras
were
always
rolling
and
boy
was
a
sight
to
see.
F
After
High
School
graduation.
We
are
still
kept
in
touch,
even
though
we
all
win
different
paths.
Calvin
went
to
Alabama
and
Arkansas
I
attended,
Boston,
University,
Tucker
and
Wesley
also
went
to
Alabama
Garnett,
went
into
the
military
and
settled
in
Hawaii,
and
our
coach
Mr
Hayes,
eventually
retired,
to
Clearwater
Florida.
F
F
Calvin
also
had
a
few
children
of
his
own,
which
I
had
the
honor
of
meeting
Tavares
Gibson,
his
oldest
son
and
father
of
Calvin's,
seven
grandchildren,
Calvin,
Bernard,
Davis
II,
also
known
as
Lil
Calvin
Carlos
Hall.
His
youngest
Kevin
would
come
back
to
Boston
from
time
to
time
to
visit
his
mom
Helen
and
sister
Tanya
and
the
rest
of
the
family.
He
was
very
close
with
his
family.
F
Calvin
even
made
a
special
trip
home
to
help
lay
his
fellow
Horseman
brother,
Anthony
Tucker
to
rest
I
didn't.
Nor
did
anyone
else,
expect
that
we'd
be
laying
Calvin
to
rest.
So
soon
after
Calvin
was
51
years
Young,
he
had
a
lively
spirit,
that
of
a
jokester
or
a
prankster,
and
an
energy
that
kept
everyone
around
him
laughing
and
smiling
all
the
time,
I
won't
mention
some
of
the
jokes
he
played
on
me.
F
Thank
you,
mayor
who
Dion
Irish
and
the
rest
of
your
team
at
the
mayor's
office
for
working
with
myself
Tanya
and
the
Davis
Family,
to
ensure
that
the
state
of
Massachusetts
has
the
opportunity
to
pay
our
respect
and
honor
the
life
of
Calvin
Bernard
Davis.
Please
keep
the
Davis
family
in
your
prayers
and
cherish
the
time
you
have
with
your
loved
ones.
Thank
you
and
God
bless
you
thank
you.
G
H
This
is
an
outstanding
field.
There's
number
five
Darnell
Hall
gold
medalist
on
the
relay,
there's
Charlie
Hayes,
who
is
the
man
who
said
to
Calvin
Davis
early
in
his
high
school
career?
You
can
be
a
star
I'm,
going
to
nurture
you
along
and
how
to
get
there.
If
you
will
listen
to
me,
Calvin
said
I:
will
he.
I
I'm
Calvin
Davis-
and
this
is
my
rise
to
Powers
track
and
field
I
started
off
being
the
Boston
area,
which
I
was
a
pretty
good
high
school
Runner
and
after
that,
I
went
on
to
University
of
Arkansas,
where
I
was
the
NCAA
champion
in
the
400
meter
dash
indoors
and
Outdoors,
and
soon
after
that,
I
qualify
for
the
Olympic
team
and
Place
third
in
the
1996
Olympics
in
the
foreign
hurdles
for
our
practice,
we
had
like
a
little
the
cement
track.
I
I'll
go
to
the
Olympics,
hopefully
feeling
like
I
did
in
96,
because
I'd
have
anything
to
lose.
If
I
was
any
around
every
round,
I
passed
or
every
time
I
ran
or
each
round
that
I
made.
It
was
a
bonus
to
me
and
it
was
less
for
somebody
else.
So
you
know
I
enjoyed
that
role
and
and
I
don't
really
like
the
win.
Everybody
is
after.
G
H
G
H
G
H
Well,
he
wishes
he
was
Will
Smith
right
now
because
of
the
pain
right
now
he's
experiencing,
but
good
arm
action.
Good
lean
at
the
tape
here
by
particularly
Martin
and
I'm,
not
sure
that
Calvin
Davis
realized
that
he
was
coming
up
on
his
shoulder.
He
hadn't
anticipated
the
lean
until
he
realized.
Somebody
was
right
there
with
him.
J
Good
evening,
everyone
we
have
gathered
here
tonight
to
celebrate
the
spiritual
home
going
of
our
good
friend
relative,
our
teammate
Calvin
Davis.
He
has
gone
home
to
glory
to
be
with
our
Lord
and
savior
Jesus
Christ.
We
all
share
different
memories
and
experiences
with
Calvin,
but
we
can
agree.
He
was
very
special.
J
He
came
to
me
as
a
Young
Middle
School
student,
about
to
graduate
and
move
on
to
high
school
I
was
a
city-wide
track
coach
who
had
just
been
assigned
to
coach
at
Dorchester
High
I
met
Calvin
when
I
coasted,
The
Grove
of
Cleveland
Middle,
School,
coach,
John,
Buckley
at
dot
high,
was
moving
on
and
said.
I
was
the
only
coach,
he
went
to
coach's
team
I
accepted
the
job
and
the
stage
was
set
for
a
rewarding
few
years
with
the
young
men
and
women
of
Dorchester
highest
track
teams.
J
J
God
bless,
Calvin,
Davis,
rest
in
peace
and
may
your
accomplishments
serve
as
positive
examples
of
hard
work,
leadership
goal
setting
and
achievement
for
the
young
Rising
athletes
of
the
city
of
Boston
and
everywhere
your
influence
has
been
felt
foreign
I'd
like
to
add
this
biblical
verse.
To
finish
my
address:
Revelations
21.
J
E
A
A
A
It's
bitter
in
that
Calvin's
no
longer
with
us,
but
a
sweet
in
that
we
got
so
many
fond
memories
of
him
that
he's
done
so
many
positive
and
powerful
and
impactful
things.
Can
we
climb
it
up
for
that.
A
Let's
pray,
Heavenly
Father,
we
thank
you
dear
God,
for
the
life
and
the
memory
of
Lord
Calvin
Davis.
We
thank
you
dear
God,
for
the
Davis
family
and
all
the
families
that
are
connected
to
them.
I
pray
in
the
father
that
you
will
strengthened
each
one
bless
them.
Lord
God
touch
his
mom,
especially
Lord.
A
Let
the
peace
of
God
be
with
her
and
strengthen
our
Lord
in
the
midst
of
of
this
challenging
time
and
father
I
pray
that
everyone
would
work
together,
that
we
would
support
the
the
the
the
change
of
the
name
of
the
of
the
track
and
field
and
Dorchester
High
and
our
honor
of
Calvin
I
pray
that
everything
will
work
out.
E
A
E
A
A
So,
as
we
gathered
here
like
I,
said
earlier,
it's
just
so
good
to
see
you
all
come
out
and
support,
and
if
you
don't
know
on
the
table,
as
you
was
coming
in,
there
was
a
book
that
that's
not
a
book
but
paper
that
you
can
sign
in
support
of
of
honoring
Calvin
with
that
name
having
that
track
and
field,
and
name
this
honor.
A
Okay,
and
that's
something
that
we
show
our
support
by
by
you
know
right
now,
signature
and
and
name
and
whatnot,
okay,
and
so
that's
a
way
that
we
can
see
him
honored
and
the
other
ways
he
can
be
honored.
You
know
just
got
to
come
up
with
some
things
and
and
knock
on
the
right
doors.
I
want
to
thank
God
for
the
Bay
State
Banner,
being
here
or
we'd,
be
doing
a
story
on
him
right.
A
And
thank
God
for
for
electing
officials
that
are
in
the
house
as
well
and
the
clergy
that
are
here
and
so,
as
we
gather
today,
we're
Gathering
to
say.
We
appreciate
the
life
and
the
legacy
of
Calvin
Bernard
Davis,
who
was
a
son,
a
brother,
Uncle,
father,
grandfather,
coach,
mentor
and
friend,
and
also,
of
course,
Mr
Olympian.
A
A
The
Calvin's
children,
his
siblings
and
the
entire
Davis
family,
all
the
families
are
connected
to
him.
To
also
those
of
you
that
grew
up
with
him
waving.
Have
you
grew
up
with
them?
You
know
family
member,
but
you
grew
up
with
them
all
right
and
we
had
I
heard.
We
had
a
couple
of
people
that
ran
track
with
him
and
that's
that's
a
wonderful
thing
as
Devon
was
sharing
earlier,
so
I
thank
God
each
one
of
you
all
the
Bible
that
says
no,
the
blessed
are
they
who
die
in
the
Lord?
A
Okay
and
it's
a
it's
a
wonderful
thing,
knowing
that
when
our
loved
ones
go
on,
they
have
their
faith
in
the
Lord
and
we're
here
to
celebrate
the
life
of
legacy
of
Calvin
as
an
excellent
track.
Star
who's,
a
football
star,
Dorchester
High,
he
went
on
as
you
heard
earlier,
to
the
Collegiate
ranks.
University
Arkansas
ran
track
for
them
and
in
the
summer
of
1996
he
became
a
bronze
medalist
in
the
U.S
Olympics
in
Atlanta.
Come
on
clap
it
up.
For
that.
E
A
And
caring
person
he
was
smart,
handsome
and
witty
always
ready
to
crack
a
joke
and
to.
A
A
A
We
always
want
to
remember
his
smile,
you
know
and
and
how
he
was
able
to
come
into
a
room
and
everybody
nuts
each
other
and
said
that
Calvin,
that's
Calvin,
you
know
and
his
mother
always
being
with
pride
for
him
and
it
it's
something
that
once
you
lose
a
child.
No
one
can
tell
you
about
the
loss
and
about
the
grief
that
you
experiencing,
because
you
never
went
that
route
can
I,
get
amen
and
so
I
thank
God
because
Calvin
listen.
A
A
Calvin
uses
athletic
prowess
to
escape
the
negative
peer
pressure
and
the
negative
things
that
take
place
in
life
and
the
streets
of
Boston's
inner
city.
He's
a
shining
example
of
what
many
of
our
young
people
can
do.
As
student
athletes
accomplish
some
of
the
things
that
he
was
able
to
accomplish.
Not
all
of
them
have
to
rise
to
that
height,
but
we
need
to
take
a
young
person
on
our
wing
and
let
them
know
other
folk
may
have
given
up
on
you,
but
we're
not
going
to
give
up
on
you
just
the
other
day.
A
It
was
in
in
the
Housing
Development,
where,
where
Calvin
lived
at
one
point
and
was
talking
to
young
people
and
and
Miss
Ellen,
one
person
said:
listen,
I
was
a
teenager.
I
I,
don't
wanna
I,
don't
I!
Don't
really
want
to
hear
all
this,
because
violence
will
never
stop
he's
given
up
when
the
young
people
give
up.
We
can't
give
up.
We
must
do
all
we
can
depressing
ahead
and
to
encourage
young
folk,
like
the
village
encouraged
Calvin,
when
Calvin
was
shining
as
a
star
come
on.
A
The
Legacy
that
he
has
left
behind
and
the
Legacy
that
Calvin
is
leaving
behind
can
even
be
embraced
by
his
siblings
praise.
God
and
it's
not
just
about
sports
I
know
that
he
did
great
things,
but
it's
about
a
legacy
of
love,
a
legacy
of
Peace,
a
legacy
of
Joy,
a
legacy
of
being
a
good
friend
and
being
a
good
neighbor.
That
means
a
whole
lot
because
we're
in
a
world
that's
full
with
chaos,
but
we
come
together
tonight
to
celebrate
our
life,
well
lived,
clap
your
hands
and
give
God
a
praise.
C
A
As
in
the
song
that
says,
if
I
can
cheer
someone
with
a
word
or
song,
If
I
could
tell
someone
that
they're
traveling
wrong.
If
I
can
just
share
something
with
somebody
to
lift
them.
Amen,
I
know
that
my
living
will
not
be
in
vain
Calvin
Bernard
amen,
Calvin
Bernard
Davis
his
living
was
not
in
vain.
He
made
an
impact
from
from.
A
Beyond
and
we're
clapping
our
ears
better
than
that
come
on
salute
this
distance
is
giant
of
a
man.
I
understood
how
to
give
back
and
to
love
those
that
others
forgot
about,
and
so
I'm
thankful
to
his
family,
the
Davis
family
and
I.
Want
you
all
to
know.
Let's
do
our
part
to
spread
the
good
news
that
Calvin
started
here
in
Boston
in
Dorchester
praise
God,
all
right
may
God
bless
you
never
smile
upon
you
and
clap
your
hands
for
a
season.
Preacher.
A
A
Respect
her,
you
know,
I
can
get
a
prayer
through
as
well
praise
the
Lord
amen,
so
listen
without
any
further
Ado
and
I
know.
Some
of
you
all
have
stayed
because
we
fed
you
and
you-
and
you
don't
want
anybody
to
talk
about
you.
Oh
he
ain't
left.
So
we
so
we're
glad
that
you're
here
to
to
to
hear
from
our
mayor
this,
so
that
the
family
can
be
see
this
Proclamation,
and
you
can
also
hear
from
Dion
who
I
believe
went
to
you.
Did
you
go
to
school
around
the
same
time?
A
Dion
I
know
you're
at
the
Dorchester
right,
yeah
Dion
Iris
praise
God.
So
this
time
we
thank
God
for
our
mayor,
Michelle
Wu,
who
is
the
mayor
of
the
city
of
Boston,
all
right,
she's
busy
you
all
she
can't
be
everywhere.
She
tries
to
be,
but
she,
but
she
is.
She
is
often
seen
with
those
that
are
going
through
adverse
situations
and
she
doesn't
just
sticking
City
Hall.
She
gets
out
about
amen
and
be
with
the
people,
so
clap
your
hands
again
for
our
mayor,
Michelle
woo.
K
K
I
think
I've
seen
him
he's
at
the
EMS
graduation
he's
serving
the
city
in
many
many
ways
and
to
the
Davis,
family
and
and
everyone
who
loved
and
knew
and
respected
and
admired
Calvin.
K
Thank
you
for
making
sure
that
this
city
is
going
to
Forever,
keep
that
Legacy
going
and
for
inviting
me
to
share
just
a
little
bit
of
thoughts
on
behalf
of
what
I
hope
the
future
of
our
city
looks
like
and
how
connected
it
is
to
the
the
inspiration
that
we
get
from
the
kind
of
community
that
raised
this
Olympian
and
hero
and
Mentor.
K
So
first
we
know
that
for
the
family,
this
is
a
moment
of
Celebration,
but
you
feel
it
different
than
the
rest
of
us
in
this
room
and
that
for
you,
these
moments,
even
the
moments
of
smile,
there's
something
deeper
inside
that.
K
So
I
just
want
to
honor
you
with
our
greatest
love,
our
greatest
wrapping
of
the
arms
all
around
you
to
just
be
with
you
in
moments
like
this,
but
especially
in
moments
when
we're
all
not
here
gathered
in
the
room
with
you.
We
miss
Kelvin
alongside
you,
and
we
are
going
to
be
with
you
and
make
sure
that
he
lives
on
in
this
city,
and
I
want
to
recognize
that
there
are
several
other
colleagues
in
the
room
who
serve
the
city,
some
of
whom
were
so
adamant.
K
K
But
who,
as
we
go
around
and
we're
often
on
site,
visiting
different
schools
that
need
to
be
renovated
because
they're,
not
in
the
condition
that
they
should
be,
and
whenever
we're
at
one
of
the
other
high
schools,
he
just
can't
let
it
go
that
he
was
an
athlete,
a
Dorchester,
High
and
he's
still
he's
still
talking
his
game,
even
though
we're
at
Madison
Park,
wherever
we
are
and
so
Dion
had
had
sent
me
some
of
the
videos
also
so
that
I
could
see
interviews
with
Calvin
ahead
of
time.
K
That
I
could
see
him
running
and
and
the
you
know
the
footage
from
from
all
those
years
ago,
and
so
he
lives
on
and
the
people
who
are
serving
and
leading
this
city
too.
Thank
you,
Dion,
and
to
your
entire
team
for
making
sure
that
we
could
help
support.
K
K
So
we're
here,
because
Calvin's
impact
can't
be
measured
on
athletes
in
the
Boston
public
schools,
on
our
city
on
our
neighborhoods
and
residents
throughout
Boston.
Today
he
made
a
name
for
himself
first
at
Dorchester
High,
where
he
took
advantage
of
every
chance
to
thrive,
but
then
he
brought
his
whole
self
to
every
single
opportunity
and
I've
heard
stories
about
that
opened
meat
at
Harvard
that
he
decided
he
was
going
to
show
up
to
and
then
set
the
Record
for
fastest
indoor
400
meter
by
high
schooler
in
Massachusetts.
K
K
That
Calvin
called
our
city
home
and
we
are
not
only
going
to
be
proud
of
him
and
everything
he
accomplished,
but
grateful
that
he
shared
his
time
with
us
and
his
love
for
the
sport.
Finally,
I
just
I
just
want
to
say
that
we're
really
putting
a
lot
into
youth
Athletics
in
Boston,
because
we
know
how
it
can
change
lives
and
then
Inspire.
The
next
generation.
One
project
that
Dion
and
the
city,
council
and
and
state
legislature
and
I
are
working
on
is
renovating
white
Stadium.
K
Some
of
y'all
might
have
heard
the
news
that
we've
been
talking
about
how
there's
going
to
be
a
professional
women's
soccer
team,
sharing
that
Stadium
the
first
pro
team
sports
team
in
the
country
to
play
out
of
the
public
school's
owned
stadium.
That
will
be
home
to
the
students
there
as
well.
But
what
hasn't
gotten
a
lot
of
attention,
but
was
a
really
important
part
and
I
suspect
Dion
made
this
happen
as
well.
Is
that
that
track
is
going
to
be
upgraded
to
a
professional,
world-class
eight-lane
track
for
all
those
athletes.
K
We
have
some
amazing
facilities
like
this
one
in
terms
of
indoor
spaces
for
track,
but
this
will
be
one
of
the
first
that
gets
upgraded
to
what
it
needs
to
be,
and
we
know
that
we'll
be
thinking
of
Calvin
every
time
our
athletes
are
breaking
records
there.
So
I
already
took
way
too
long.
I
just
want
to
highlight
that,
on
behalf
of
all
of
us
here
in
government
and
and
in
representing
all
different
levels
of
government
wanted
to
present
a
proclamation.
It
lists
a
lot
of
details
about
all
of
the
accomplishments,
but
I'll.
K
Aau
program
where
he
worked
to
nurture
the
athletic
abilities
of
Youth
and
serve
as
a
positive
role
model,
passing
his
wisdom
and
skills
to
the
Next
Generation
and
whereas
Calvin's
memory
will
continue
to
live
on
in
the
hearts
of
his
family,
his
neighbors,
his
loved
ones
and
all
of
us
in
the
city
of
Boston.
Now,
therefore,
I
Michelle
Wu,
mayor
of
the
city
of
Boston,
do
hereby
Proclaim
September
21st
2023
to
be
Calvin
Bernard
Davis
day
in
the
city
of
Boston.
K
A
A
All
right,
I
know:
y'all
have
one
foot
out
the
door,
but
we
get
ready
to
wrap
it
up.
Somebody
said
to
me
earlier:
when
we
got
to
nine
o'clock.
I
said
you
do
you
do
my
booze
over
there
and
are
you
ready
to
bounce?
We
ought
to
feed
her
enough.
I
I,
don't
know
I
might
have
to
go
to
restaurant,
but
she
looked
like
she's
smiling.
If
you
have
enough
food
that
food
was
good.
That
was
that
food
good
y'all
all.
A
This
time,
Chief
Dion
Irish
of
the
mayor's
office
chief
of
operation
for
the
city
of
Boston,
black
man
from
Dorchester.
A
D
D
I
also
want
to
thank
Devon
and
Latonya,
for
you
know
allowing
us
to
be
a
part
of
this
to
help
make
this
happen
before
I
go
any
further.
I
want
to
just
give
a
special
shout
out
to
my
team
that
really,
you
know,
handle
all
the
logistics
to
make
this
happen.
Rakia
Edwards
and
the
red
the
one
who
interrupted
the
position.
D
Keith
Williams
Morgan,
McDaniels,
Derek
de
Silva,
I
finished
also
chipped
in
and
a
special
events
team
Collette
Fullman
Amy
meandl
they're,
not
here,
but
they
all
played
a
great
role
as
well
as
the
other
folks
in
the
mayor's
office,
it
was
a
you
know,
all
hands
on
board
effort.
D
I
want
to
just
make
some
quick
announcement.
An
announcement
tonight
and
I'm
in
that
Avery
I
think
also
has
an
announcement
to
make
from
BPS,
as
Bishop
mentioned
earlier,
there's
a
petition
that
we're
asking
folks
to
sign
because
we
have
a
process
where,
if
you
want
to
name
something
in
one
of
our
Parks
or
playgrounds
after
someone,
you
have
to
go
through
a
process
and
quite
a
bit.
Another
part
of
it
is
a
letter.
Also
I
want
to
thank
Miss
Harris
for
being
here
tonight.
D
So
we've
begun
the
process.
Actually,
today,
I
sent
a
letter
to
the
commissioner
for
the
parks,
department
and
I
said
this
I
said
I'm
their
commissioner.
Wasn't
writing
on
behalf
of
man
Michelle
who
to
petition
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Commission
to
place
the
memorial
plaque
in
the
Roberts
playground
adjacent
to
the
sprint
track
in
honor
of
Calvin
Davis
Calvin
grew
up
in
Boston
and
attended
Dorchester
High
and
now
known
as
Tech
Boston
Academy
at
Dorchester.
High
Calvin
was
an
outstanding.
It
was
outstanding
track
in
football.
D
He
still
holds
many
BPS
records
in
track
and
field,
as
well
as
being
a
Super
Bowl
champion
for
Dorchester
High
Calvin
was
a
stellar
athlete
and
the
person
who
set
records
in
Massachusetts
he
set
records
in
college
for
the
University
of
Arkansas
and
for
the
United
States.
He
won
World
Championships,
including
Midland
in
the
1996
Olympics.
His
dedication
and
exceptional
accomplishments
deserve
recognition.
D
Calvin
was
not
only
a
world-class
athlete,
but
a
mentor,
a
friend
and
a
family
man
who
cared
deeply
for
the
successive
youth
in
the
community
prior
to
his
outstanding
career
in
track
and
field.
Calvin
honed
his
skills
and
fed
his
passion
for
running
racing
fellow
students
in
the
longest
hallway
of
Dorchester,
High
I
vividly
recalled
after
school
competitions
and
at
the
time
none
of
us
questioned
why
we
didn't
have
a
proper
track
to
race
on
therefore
had
to
race
in
the
hallway.
So
there
are
many
reasons
why
ottoman
Calvin's
Legacy
is
important.
D
Elected
officials,
Community
groups,
as
well
as
collecting
the
signatures
which
I
I
hope
to
get
you
a
lot
of
support
in
with
that
tonight
and
to
us
a
hearing
and
I'm,
confident
that
in
the
coming
months,
we'll
be
gathering
again
to
have
an
unveiling
of
of
this
track
in
Indiana
Memorial
in
his
honor.
Nothing.
L
Thank
you,
Chief
Iris
and
I
before
I
start
I
would
like
to
thank
Chief
ice
for
including
me
in
this
process
has
been
great
to
work
with
his
team
to
to
make
tonight
a
reality
on
behalf
of
Boston
Public
Schools
I'd
like
to
honor
to
offer
my
condolences
to
the
Davis
family
and
and
I
think
we've
learned
a
lot
in
the
process
of
putting
this
together
and
really
about
the
legacy
of
accounting.
So
from
from
our
world
in
the
athletics
department,
we've
got
two
things
that
we
want
to
start
next
year.
L
And
then,
secondly,
I
think
it's
very
important
and
the
big
part
that
I
have
seen
tonight.
It's
been
great
to
see
so
many
alums
that
have
come
out
to
support.
That's
a
that's,
a
big
part
of
what
we
do
in
BPS
and
making
sure
that
people
have
somewhere
to
come
home
to.
So
it's
great
to
see
how
many
people
people
have
come
out
tonight.
My
apologies
for
not
wearing
my
Dorchester
red,
but
the
other
piece
that
we'll
do
it,
which
will
remain,
is
naming
the
outdoor
student
athlete
of
the
year
after
Calvin
as
well.
L
So
those
are
I
think
two
opportunities
where,
where
we
as
Boston
Public,
Schools
Athletics,
will
be
able
to
highlight
Calvin's
accomplishments
and
make
sure
that
the
students
understand
what
they're
capable
of
and
what
people
have
accomplished
and
so
that'll
be
an
honor
that
we'll
be
able
to
to
do
year
after
year.
So
thank
you.
D
C
A
All
right,
we
listen,
don't
leave
when
I
hear
the
video
of
Calvin
making
a
speech
and
it's
about
six
seven
minutes
long
and
let's,
let's.
A
Right
and
after
that,
I
will
close
with
a
word
of
prayer.
Okay,
in
that
order,
all
right
God
bless.
You.
M
Razorbacks,
who
have
been
part
of
our
track
and
field
program
over
the
last
several
years,
we
have
many
with
us
here
tonight:
I
invite
you
to
turn
your
attention
to
the
video
board
as
we
welcome
Calvin
Davis
into
the
University
of
Arkansas
Sports
Hall
of
God
Calvin's
got
his
own
exception
tonight.
So
please
turn
your
attention
to
the
video
boy.
M
M
M
The
tape
the
6-1
170
pound
Davis
was
a
six-time
All-American
and
a
three-time
NCAA
Champion
during
his
two
years
at
Arkansas,
Calvin
was
primarily
a
400
meter
performer
for
the
racerbacks.
Although
he
picked
up
the
400
meter
hurdles
later
in
his
career,
Davis
helped
lead
the
Hogs
to
four
SEC
and
NCAA
championships
in
indoor
and
outdoor
track.
H
M
M
History
after
his
collegiate
career
Davis
ran
as
part
of
the
American
4x400
meter
relay
team
that
won
Gold
for
the
U.S
at
the
world.
Indoor
championships
in
Barcelona
Davis
wanted
to
qualify
for
the
96
Olympics
in
Atlanta
and
asked
his
former
coach
John
McDonald
for
advice,
McDonald
told
him.
He
should
start
training
for
the
400
meter
hurdles.
A
sport
Davis
should
never
run
in
college.
M
M
I
N
N
N
N
I
recall
sometimes
when
I
was
a
small
child
and
I
would
wake
up
in
the
middle
of
the
night
crying
for
some
sort
of
attention.
Maybe
it
was
food,
my
grandmother
would
make
them
get
up
and
say:
hey,
go
and
see
about
this
child
and
they
would
gladly
get
up
off
the
bed
and
do
it
I
like
to
think
my
my
college
teammates,
a
lot
of
people
get
together
or
athletes.
Former
athletes
can
get
together
and
they
talk
about
some
of
the
exploits
they
did.
N
While
they
were
competing
me
and
my
friends,
but
my
teammates
we
get
together
and
talk
about
the
times
the
wonderful
times
we
had
off
the
track
to
my
house,
I
mean
to
my
college
roommate
Dwayne
Whitney.
We
went
through
a.
N
C
N
I
didn't
grow
up
with
you
guys
after
you
first
day
that
I
met
you,
you
made
me
feel
like
I've,
been
there
forever,
the
first
day
that
I
spent
Christmas
with
them
I
brought
my
son
and
in
the
vacation
month
it
was
a
Christmas
break
when
I
went
home
or
when
me
and
my
son
left
I
pulled
over
on
the
side
of
the
highway
and
I
cried
and
I.
Didn't
know
why?

I
stayed
I
stayed,
I
stayed
here
over
Christmas
breaks
as
many
as
well
as
many
of
the
other
athletes
and
I
worked
out
with
Coach
McDonald,
because
a
lot
of
the
other
spreaders
were
gone
and
I
got
to
tell
you
I'm
a
tough
guy,
but
I
almost
died.
So
he
800
meters
out
of
the
question
for
me,
but
the
coach,
McDonald
coach,
red
wine
and
the
rest
of
the
guys
that
I
ran
track
with
I
like
to
thank
you
for
making
my
time
here
in
Northwest
Arkansas.

We
may
remain
standard
remain
standing
again.
Thank
you
to
the
mayor
staff
that
mayor
Wu
and
the
staff
Dion
and
everyone
that
played
a
part
making
this
happen
Latonya
and
thanks
again.
This
is
to
Helen
and
all
those
that
are
part
of
this
family.
I
appreciate
you
all
so
much
appreciate
you
all
so
much
all
right.
So.
A
Eternal
God
our
Father.
We
thank
you
Lord
God,
for
allowing
us
to
come
together
and
to
be
able
to
share
in
the
memory
and
be
able
to
encourage
the
Legacy
Calvin
Bernard
Davis.
We
pray
dear
God
that
you
are
Lord,
wrap
your
loving
arms
around
this
entire
family
in
the
midst
Lord
of
their
grieving
and
the
midst
of
their
morning.
Lord
I
pray
that
your
lord
cause
them
to
celebrate.
A
life
well
lived
and
I
pray,
heavenly
father
that
they
will
draw
strength
run
from
the
other,
but,
more
importantly,
draw
strength
from
you.
A
We
pray
heavenly
father
that
you
were
Lord.
Keep
us
Lord
focus
and
help
us
Lord
to
recognize
Lord
that
we
must
appreciate
the
village
that
helped
to
raise
Calvinists
to
to
support
the
what
Lord
his
mom
did.
What
his
father
did,
what
is
Lord
his
entire
family
was
able
to
share,
and
to
do
we.
Thank
you,
dear
God,
for
all
that
have
come
tonight.
We
pray
your
choices
blessings
upon
each
one
as
we
travel
to
his
separate
destinations
of
the
peace
of
God,
be
with
them
in
Jesus
name.
Thank
God,
Amen,
God,.
