From YouTube: Massworks Announcement 4-9-2019
Description
Mayor Walsh and Governor Baker announce funding for three new construction projects in Mattapan, including plans to turn an MBTA parking lot into 135 units of affordable housing. The grants that made these projects possible were provided by Massworks, a statewide program that supports improving public infrastructure.
A
A
That's
created
a
record
number
of
affordable
homes
in
Boston,
and
he
knows
that
our
challenges
in
the
housing
area
have
to
be
met
with
a
variety
of
different
strategies,
meeting
a
range
of
needs,
whether
it's
homeownership
workforce
housing
or
ending
chronic
homelessness
in
the
city,
and
just
last
week
the
mayor
announced
a
45
percent
increase
in
the
city's
budget
for
housing
to
help
aid
in
these
efforts.
So,
thank
you,
mayor
for
your
leadership
in.
B
Thank
you
very
much
Aaron.
Thank
you,
everyone
for
being
here
today.
This
is
a
very
nice
day.
It's
always
good.
Everyone
on
the
backs
very
excited
anytime,
there's
money
being
given
away.
It's
always
a
good
day.
So
thank
you,
but
I
want
to
think
I
want
thank
the
governor
for
being
with
us
today.
I
want
to
thank
Secretary
connealy
for
being
with
us
today:
John
bardos,
GM
of
MBTA
seaport,
sac
city,
councillor,
Tim,
McCarthy,
state,
representative,
Russell,
Holmes
and
100.
Also.
This
is
also.
B
B
B
Couldn't
it
good
news
for
this
great
neighborhood,
because
often
times
when
tragedies
happen
in
Mattapan
people
always
go
right
to
the
negative
about
Mattapan,
and
these
are
just
a
great
neighborhood
and
there's
great
things
happening
here
and
today
it's
a
sign
of
that
so
I
just
wanted
to
think
about
today.
We
should
just
think
about
what
happened
over
the
weekend.
I
want
to
thank
the
arts
economic
development
for
investing
in
these
projects.
B
B
That
way,
there's
an
incredible
walk
path
that
you
can
get
on
and
walk
all
the
way
to
wherever
you
want
to
go
at
one
way
and
walk
all
the
way
you
want
to
go
the
other
way
down
here,
really
only
four
men
appeared
or
residents,
but
if
you
want
to
come
over,
that
was
a
joke
for
the
press.
In
case
you
know
it
really
is
incredible
here
at
manna
pean
station,
for
example,
the
site
will
be
home,
235
new
units
of
housing.
B
All
the
units
will
be
below
market
affordable,
which
means
that
we
can
keep
as
the
neighborhoods
change
and
evolve
and
grow.
People
that
live
here
and
grow
up
here
that
don't
have
the
means
will
have
the
opportunity
to
be
able
to
live
here.
It's
gonna
help
people
stay
in
the
neighborhood
that
they
love
it's
going
to
help
our
business
community
on
Blue,
Hill
Ave,
and
it
enhance
our
business
community
to
us
struggle
some
of
the
struggling
businesses
that
don't
have
enough
massive
people.
B
B
How
do
we
direct
our
goals,
our
housing
goals
and
growth
in
sustainable
ways,
to
make
sure,
as
we
see
this
growth
in
neighborhoods,
how
do
we
make
sure
we
don't
have
displacement
with
the
growth?
How
do
we
create
opportunities
with
that
with
that
growth
and
something
that's
really
important?
The
mask
works
funding
is
aligned
with
with
all
top
goals
and
we're
heading,
but
we're
hearing
from
our
raises.
I
want
to
encourage
all
residents
to
get
involved,
Kenya
Beeman's
here
to
talk
about.
B
If
you
want,
if
you
want
to
learn
more
about
plan,
we're
all
so
excited
that
Maps
works
grant
will
mean
for
projects
in
each
Boston
in
Dorchester
right
now,
we're
making
major
improvements
to
Orion
Heights
housing
development,
so
the
folks
in
Orion
Heights
have
of
21st
century
living,
one
of
our
city's
largest
emotes
two-story
public
housing
community.
So
we're
going
to
continue
to
make
those
investments
there.
The
mass
Works
grants
will
help
us
support
critical
infrastructure
and
roadways
to
better
connect
residents.
B
The
rest
of
the
neighborhoods
in
Dorchester,
the
individual
project
will
create
a
transit
oriented
development
near
the
Fairmont
Line,
something
that
we'll
be
talking
about.
Many
of
you
in
this
room
worked
extremely
hard
way
before
I
was
even
in
politics
any
of
us
from
politics
about
the
Fairmont
line.
I
want
to
thank
the
residents
here
for
pushing
that
and
being
supported
by
the
governor
and
all
of
us
to
make
sure
we
continue
the
growth
and
what's
happening
in
the
great
neighborhoods
mass
works.
B
Funding
will
provide
much
needed
infrastructure
and
paved
the
way
for
80,
affordable
housing
units
in
nine
market
rate
condos
in
that
area.
It's
also
the
streetscape
improvement
will
help
connect
people.
So
if
you
see
the
theme
here,
the
theme
is
creating
housing,
affordable,
housing.
The
theme
is
connecting
people,
but
it's
the
neighborhood.
The
theme
here
is
making
sure
we
a
better
transit
connections.
The
theme
here
it
really
is
about
investing
in
people.
That's
what
the
grants
are
all
about
and
I'm
excited
about.
All
these
projects
and
I
want
to
thank
all
of
you.
B
I
also
want
to
thank
the
governor
who's
going
to
come
up
here
and
speak
now.
The
governor
has
we've
had
many
conversations
about
projects
and
about
how
we
do
transient
development.
How
do
we
create
opportunities?
How
do
we
make
neighborhoods
stay
affordable?
How
do
we
make
the
investments
and-
and
he
is
an
incredible
team-
that
when
we
think
this
through
sometimes
wonder
when
the
grants
come
out,
is
this
appointment
because
there's
so
many
so
many
options
for
people
to
choose
and
but
you
can't
get
disappointed
we
have
to
do-
is
keep
moving
forward.
B
So
I
want
to
thank
the
governor's
investments
in
the
T
in
housing,
his
legislative
package
in
housing,
working
with
all
of
us
to
make
sure
that
the
inner
city,
not
just
here
in
Boston
but
throughout
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts,
is
a
good
I
kept
on
it.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
going
for
that
and
before
I
bring
it
up.
I
want
to
just
acknowledge
senator
Nick
College
just
came
in.
Thank
you.
Senator
Collins.
C
C
C
I
do
also
want
to
speak
to
the
other
two
projects
that
the
mayor
mentioned:
the
the
Orient
Heights
project,
which
is
300,
which
is
a
331
public
housing
unit
facility
that
the
mass
works
grant.
There
is
going
to
be
used
to
support
a
lot
of
infrastructure
work.
That's
attached
to
a
big
upgrade
in
that
site
in
the
in
the
FM's.
Corner
commuter
rail
station
on
the
Fairmont
line
is
going
to
come
with
80,
affordable
units
and
nine
market
rate
units
and
I.
C
Think
the
best
part
about
this
from
my
point
of
view,
is
all
three
of
these,
as
the
mayor
said,
were
about
we're
about
housing
and
about
transportation
and
about
community
and
part
of
the
reason.
This
works
is
because
the
mayor
and
his
team
do
a
spectacular
job
of
working
with
you
know,
sort
of
up
down
and
sideways
on
this
stuff.
C
There's
a
lot
of
voices
and
a
lot
of
folks
that
need
to
be
in
our
part
of
those
conversations,
and
he
and
his
team
do
a
really
good
job
of
making
sure
that
everybody's
voice
is
heard
and
everybody
has
a
chance
to
engage
and
it
may
take
a
little
longer
to
get
to
the
end.
But
I
think
you
get
a
much
better
result
and
having
this
for
four
years,
I've
had
a
chance
on
many
occasions
to
watch
the
mayor
and
his
team
work
with
the
folks
that
we
both
serve
in
the
communities
around
Boston.
C
To
move
some
of
this
stuff
forward.
And-
and
it's
been
a
real
pleasure
for
us-
and
this
is
just
one
more
example-
of
what
you
can
get
when
everybody's
pulling
in
the
same
direction
and
I
would
just
close
with
this
part
of
what
makes
the
mass
works
program.
Special
is
its
flexibility
that
didn't
happen
by
accident.
C
And
for
us
anyway,
this
is
just
one
more
example
of
a
really
big
day
on
our
efforts
to
work
with
our
colleagues
and
local
government,
our
leaders
in
the
legislature
and
our
folks
in
the
communities
around
the
Commonwealth
to
put
programming
and
solutions
in
place
that
help
them
build
stronger
neighborhoods.
Let's
face
it
at
the
end
of
the
day
when
we
all
get
up
in
the
morning
a
big
part
of
how
we
think
about
what
we're
up
to
and
what
we're
doing
is
a
function
of
how
we
feel
about
the
neighborhood
weather.
A
A
On
that,
but
thank
you
for
elevating
the
issue
and
also
we're
grateful
that
you
appointed
Mike
camellias
and
that
Secretary
of
HED
following
jay
ash,
as
you
mentioned,
tough
shoes
to
fill.
But
we're
really
pleased
that
secretary
has
hit
the
ground
running
and
Housing
and
Economic
Development.
He
has
a
strong
knowledge
of
all
the
programs
and
operations
there,
because
he
was
the
assistant
secretary
for
the
first
term
of
the
governor
for
the
first
four
years,
so
really
pleased
to
have
you
there
and
for
making
housing
such
a
high
priority.
So.
D
Everybody,
it's
great
to
be
here,
to
celebrate
not
only
these
three
really
important
impactful
projects
in
Boston,
but
also
statewide.
What
we've
accomplished
with
mass
works,
hard
to
add
much
to
what
the
governor
mayor
had
to
say
in
terms
of
the
key
themes
here,
but
around
housing
community
investment
transportation.
You
know
the
overall
theme
early
is
partnership.
These
are
great
partnerships
between
the
state,
the
city,
community
leaders
developers.
It's
really
what
we're
all
about
is
those
types
of
partnerships
to
revitalize
communities
and
make
important
investments.
D
So
for
the
last
four
years
of
mass
works,
it's
now
been
three
hundred
fifty
seven
million
dollars
of
investment
in
our
communities
about
a
hundred
and
seventy-six
projects,
one
hundred
and
twenty
nine
cities
and
towns.
It's
created,
29,000,
full
or
part-time
jobs,
two
million
square
feet
of
commercial
space,
11,000
housing
units.
As
the
governor
mentioned,
it's
a
very
important,
impactful
and
flexible
tool
in
our
toolbox.
D
The
let's
communities
make
the
kind
of
investments
they
want
to
make,
and
so
we're
proud
of
the
record
over
the
last
year
in
the
last
four
years
and
enjoy
so
many
great
partnerships,
literally
all
over
Massachusetts.
In
addition
to
the
three
Awards
in
Boston
today,
we've
had
awards
in
lis
in
teens
borough
and
Springfield
and
Worcester
really
all
across
Massachusetts
from
from
Pittsfield
to
Provincetown,
as
we
say,
and
so
it
truly
is
an
impactful
program.
Statewide
I
do
want
to
say
just
as
well
as
the
governor's
comments.
D
This
again
highlights
their
great
partnership
with
the
city
of
Boston
and
Mayor
Walsh
and
John
Barris
and
they're.
A
team
I've
I've
been
secretary
now
for
about
three
and
a
half
months,
I
spent
the
last
four
years
in
the
office,
and
so
we've
enjoyed
a
great
partnership
with
the
mayor,
his
team
and
so
many
other
city
and
town
leaders
across
the
state.
So
it's
great
to
be
here
today.
D
These
are
really
important
projects
and
we
look
forward
to
the
next
round
of
mass
works,
which
will
open
some
time
of
the
spring
in
grateful
as
well
to
the
legislature
for
their
work
with
us
on
the
economic
development
bill.
The
governor
signed
last
year,
which
provides
another
250
million
dollars
in
funding
for
mass
work.
So
the
future
is
bright
here.
It's
an
important
program.
We
look
forward
to
deploying
those
dollars
again
over
the
coming
year
and
look
forward
to
working
with
all
of
you.
Thank
you.
