A
Welcome
to
this
month's
come
out
and
play
hi
I'm
Angie
hall,
with
buncombe
county
parks,
greenways
and
recreation
services,
and
today
we're
at
the
Charles
do
and
park
in
swannanoa
located
off
of
the
Warren
Wilson
Road.
In
the
last
couple
of
years,
we've
had
lots
of
improvements
made
to
the
park
and
we
hope
to
share
those
with
you
throughout
today's
show.
A
We
also
had
some
great
events
and
programs
coming
up
that
we'd
like
to
share
with
you
so
sit
back
and
enjoy
Charles
do
and
park
was
a
recipient
of
the
North
Carolina,
Parks
and
Recreation
trust
fund.
Grant
that
grant
made
a
lot
of
these
wonderful
improvements
possible
and
speaking
of
improvements,
let's
turn
it
to
Rene,
with
black
mountain
recreation
and
parks.
To
tell
you
about
the
approve
mitts
made
at
the
Lakeview
Senior
Center
thanks.
B
Angie
hi
I'm
Rene
mr.
Angelo,
from
the
Black
Mountain
Recreation
and
Parks
Department,
and
today
we're
here
at
the
Senior
Center,
located
at
Lake
tomahawk
we're
upstairs
at
the
clubhouse,
which
has
just
recently
been
finished,
renovated.
We
have
a
brand-new
kitchen,
some
new
restrooms,
in
addition
to
the
deck
brand,
new
doors
and
windows
and
all
sorts
of
great
new
things.
B
It
is
also
now
a
DA
accessible,
so
I
wanted
to
draw
attention
to
it,
because
it
is
here
for
rent
if
you're
interested
in
coming
here
and
renting
it
for
birthday
parties,
weddings
receptions,
any
sort
of
event
that
you
can
think
of
it
is
for
rent
residents
and
non-residents.
It's
located
right
next
to
the
Black
Mountain
pool.
So
it's
great
for
this
coming
summer.
If
you're
interested
in
having
a
pool
party
and
a
birthday
party
together,
you
can
rent
them
both.
B
A
Picnic
shelters,
hero
and
park
now
have
new
wide
pathways
leading
from
the
parking
lot
and
one
of
our
shelters
is
now
handicapped,
accessible,
buncombe,
county
parks,
greenways
and
Recreation
Services
recently
hosted
national
visit
apart
day
here
at
Owen
park
and
at
carbon
field
in
weaverville.
Here's
Lynn
peg
to
tell
you
about
that
day.
C
I'm
Lynn

with
buncombe
county
parks,
greenways
and
Recreation
Services
in
Asheville,
we're
out
here
today
in
weaverville
for
national
visit
apart
day,
we're
showcasing
our
carpets,
ocker
fields
out
in
we
reveal
on
rims
Creek
Road
who's
just
recently
received
a
facelift
of
new
sod
new
drainage
system
and
a
brand-new
walking
trail.
We're
also
showcasing
our
Charles
do
and
park
out
in
swannanoa
who's
received
a
brand
new
fishing
pier
a
brand
new
solar
powered
fish
feeder
and
the
lake
will
be
stocked
with
catfish
beginning
in
2012.
Today's
national
visit
a
park
day.
C
This
was
started
in
mind
with
getting
people
outside
to
find
out
more
about
their
parks
in
their
communities,
state
regions
and
national
parks.
We're
trying
to
get
everybody
educated
on
the
usefulness
of
getting
out
and
getting
involved
in
your
Park
System
and
just
getting
out
and
exercising.
We
hope.
You'll
come
out
and
visit
every
day.
You
can
find
out
more
about
buncombe,
county
parks,
greenways
and
recreation
services
on
the
web,
at

A
Walking
past
here,
Owen
Park
make
a
figure
8
around
both
lakes,
and
it's
also
about
a
mile
long,
making
it
great
for
exercising
or
just
taking
a
leisurely
stroll.
Our
pathway
here
has
been
recently
graded
and
resurfaced,
making
a
smoother
surface
for
walkers
and
joggers
black
mountain
recreation
parks
has
some
new
paths
and
greenways
great
for
exercising
too
here's
Carolyn.
To
tell
you
more
thanks.
D
Angie,
my
name
is
Carolyn
Freiburger
I'm,
the
health
programs
administrator
for
black
mountain
recreation
parks
and
I'm
very
excited
to
tell
you
that,
as
of
this
spring,
we
have
two
newly
completed
Greenway
trails
in
Black
Mountain.
One
of
those
trails
is
the
flat
creek
greenway,
which
is
about
half
mile
long,
and
it
runs
from
the
back
of
the
Black
Mountain
primary
school
off
of
Charlotte
Street
up
to
cotton
Avenue.
D
It's
really
a
lovely
trail
that
follows
Flat
Creek
the
whole
way
and
the
second
trail
is
called
the
garden
Greenway
Trail,
and
that's
also
about
a
half
mile
long.
It
does
a
loop
around
our
disc
golf
course
and
also
around
our
community
garden,
and
that
trail
connects
from
Blue
Ridge
Road
to
the
trails
in
recreation
park,
and
so
you
can
actually
use
the
garden
Greenway
Trail
to
go
from
blue
ridge
road,
all
the
way
into
downtown
Black
Mountain
when
you
connect
by
the
Oaks
trail,
which
is
already
in
place
through
recreation
park.
D
A
Carolyn
I
one
Park
is
a
place
to
play
ball.
We
have
several
ball
fields
here
for
all
ages,
Pepsi
refurbished
the
scoreboard
and
donated
signs
for
the
concession
stand
to
make
it
easier.
A
new
pathway
has
been
added
for
better
access
to
the
t-ball
field.
So
if
you
have
a
little
one
that
likes
to
play
baseball
that
Owen
Park
is
the
place
for
them,
but
if
they
would
rather
be
in
the
pool,
then
on
the
hot
ball
field,
here's
rené
to
tell
you
about
when
the
Black
Mountain
pool
opens
hi.
B
I'm
Renee
Mastrangelo
from
the
Black
Mountain
Recreation
and
Parks
Department
on
the
recreation
program
supervisor
here
and
today
we're
here
at
the
White
Mountain
cool
coming
up.
Real
quick
is
the
opening
of
our
pool
on
May
28
Saturday.
It
will
open
a
memorial
day
weekend
and
it'll
be
open
on
weekends
until
school
lets
out
for
the
summer.
B
So,
if
you're
interested
in
coming
and
visiting
the
pool
during
the
summer
you're
going
to
need
to
buy
a
blue
pass,
so
you
can
come
on
down
to
the
Carver
community
center
by
yourself
an
individual
pool
pass
for
sixty
dollars
or
family
pool
pass
for
a
hundred
dollars,
and
that
will
get
you
in
all
summer
long.
If
you
just
want
to
come
for
the
day,
it's
three
dollars
per
person.
The
pool
is
located
here
at
Lake
tomahawk
at
401
laurel
circle
drive.
A
E
You
Angie
I'm
Terry,
Gentile
aquatic
supervisor
for
Buncombe
County,
Park,
greenways
and
recreation
services
hi.
It's
time
to
talk
about
pools,
it's
hard
to
believe
in
the
mood
summer.
We
have
five
outdoor
pools
in
Buncombe
County.
Please
come
and
join
us.
We
open
memorial
day
weekend
on
weekends.
Only
then
we'll
open
full-time
june
thirteenth,
our
pool
hours
this
year
or
monday
through
friday,
12
25,
45
saturday,
11,
26,
45
and
sunday
12,
6,
45,
so
come
on
out
and
join
us
we'd.
Be
glad
to
have
you
learning
to
swim.
A
D
Program
we
have
going
on
for
the
kids
this
summer
is
swim
lessons
at
the
Black
Mountain
pool.
There
are
three
levels
of
swim:
lessons
ranging
from
very
very
beginning
just
starting
to
get
in
the
water
and
blow
bubbles
to
learning
to
dive
and
practice
different
strokes,
those
lessons
begin
in
June
and-
and
they
are
thirty-five
dollars
per
week
for
specifics
on
that-
just
again
check
our
website
and
they
vary
with
times
some
are
in
the
afternoon
somewhere
in
the
morning.
So
just
check
check
the
website
for
the
detailed
information
on
swim.
Lessons
now.
A
E
Needs
to
learn
to
swim.
We
have
wonderful
swimming
lessons
at
all.
Are
five
outdoor
pools
registration
begins
june
thirteenth
at
twelve
noon,
classes
begin
the
following
week:
jun
20th
through
the
30th.
They
come
Monday
through
Thursday.
You
get
eight
lessons
for
thirty
dollars,
so
come
on.
Sign
your
children
up.
Let
us
teach
them
to
swim
thanks.
A
Terry
I
hope
everyone
will
get
out
of
a
hot
heat
and
enjoy
our
cool
pools,
I'm
standing
here
at
oh
and
park
on
our
new
fishing,
pier
because
of
its
low
angled
handrails.
It
is
accessible,
I,
wheelchairs
and
children.
Parking
and
sidewalk
are
also
accessible
for
people
with
disabilities.
The
pier
consists
of
six
floating
sections
in
a
situated
right
next
to
the
new
fish
feeder
solar-powered,
fish
feeder
sprays,
fish
food
into
the
lake
every
hour
on
the
hour
during
daylight
hours.
A
The
fishing
pier
parking
lot
sidewalks
and
fish
feeder
were
a
joint
effort
of
the
Carolina
Wildlife
Commission
and
buncombe
county.
A
North
Carolina
fishing
license
is
required
for
anglers
age,
16
and
older.
Do
you
like
to
grow
a
garden
and
work
with
vegetables?
Well,
here's
your
chance
to
help
out
with
the
community
garden
and
Black
Mountain
thanks
Angie.
D
My
name
is
Carolyn
Freiburger
I'm,
the
health
programs
administrator
for
black
mountain
recreation
and
parks.
In
this
summer,
we've
got
a
lot
of
activities
going
on
down
in
our
community
garden.
Our
community
garden
is
about
1.2
acres
and
it
is
fully
rented
for
the
2011
summer
gardening
season,
but
there's
still
a
number
of
different
ways
that
you
can
get
involved
down
there
at
the
garden
first
off.
D
D
to
noon
and
fridays
from
3pm
to
5pm
and
if
you're
interested
in
signing
up
for
those,
you
can
contact
me
at
669
2052
in
exchange
for
volunteering,
we
do
offer
some
veggies
fresh
vegetables
for
you
to
take
home
for
your
own
table
as
well,
and
all
that
produce
that
you
helped
produce
gets
donated
to
the
community
over
3,000
pounds
a
year.
So
it's
a
great
thing
to
be
part
of
another
way
that
you
can
get
involved
with.
D
The
garden
is
to
participate
in
one
of
our
saturday-morning
workshops,
which
happen
pretty
regularly
on
through
the
summer
season.
We've
got
two
scheduled
for
may,
both
of
which
are
workshops
designed
for
kids
and
parents
together
and
then
in
June.
We
have
three
workshops.
Scheduled
topics
include
permaculture
cover
cropping
through
the
summer
months,
wild
plant
identification
a
lot
of
different
things
going
on,
and
all
those
workshops
run
from
ten
a.m.
to
noon
on
Saturday
mornings
and
for
specific
on
specifics
on
the
dates
and
topics.
D
A
Carolyn
new
in-ground
trash
cans
and
recycle
bins
have
replaced
the
typical
standard
trashcan.
The
new
bands
look
like
traditional
trash
cans
on
the
surface,
but
most
of
the
container
is
varied
five
feet
under
the
ground.
Each
it
has
the
capacity
to
hold
as
much
as
20
standard
sized
trash
containers,
because
most
of
the
container
is
underground.
The
Earth's
geothermal
temperatures
keep
the
trash
can
from
smelling
and
they
do
not
attract
bugs
or
vermin
buncombe.
County

and

A
H
Want
to
make
some
plans
for
this
summer
for
your
school-age
children,
buncombe
county
parks,
greenways
and
recreation
services
will
be
offering
a
nature
camp.
The
first
week
of
August
beginning
on
August,
the
first
through
the
fifth.
We
will
be
open
from
732
530
daily.
The
cost
is
160
dollars
per
week
or
forty
dollars
a
day.
So
you
don't
have
to
come
the
whole
week
we're
going
to
have
kayaking
basket-weaving
will
have
science
experiments
we're
going
to
have
fishing
every
day.
H
We
also
have
the
North
Carolina
Wildlife,
coming
out
talking
to
you
about
boat
safety,
fishing,
we're
also
going
to
have
a
crime
scene
investigation
offered
by
the
Sheriff's
Department.
So
give
me
a
call
250
for
265
calendars
about
ready,
just
think
about
it.
Registration
begins
on
July
the
first
so
again,
remember
the
crime
scene,
investigation
at
Lake,
Julian.
A
B
I'm
Renee
Mastrangelo
from
the
Black

Recreation
and

I'm,
the
recreation

here
coming
up
our
16th
season.
A
park
rhythm,
starts
june,
sixteenth
here
at
Lake
tomahawk
at
the
outdoor
stage.
Park
rhythms
is
an
eight-week
concert
series
that's
free
to
the
public.
It's
every
thursday
from
seven
to
nine
p.m.
the
first
shows
the
swayback
sisters.
If
it
does
rain,
we
do
relocate
to
the
upper
level
of
the
Senior
Center.
We
don't
cancel,
shows
if
you're
interested
in
coming
out.
B
All
you
have
to
do
is
come
find
us
here
at
Lake
tomahawk
every
thursday.
For
the
summer
there
will
be
food
available
for
purchase
or,
of
course,
you're
welcome
to
rear
and
picnic
with
you.
If
you
have
questions
about
these
shows
or
any
other
program,
please
give
me
a
call
here
at
the
Senior
Center
at
six,
six,
nine
eight
six
one
zero
or
you
can
email
me
Renee
Mastrangelo,
at
ton
of
black
mountain
org
thanks.
A
Renee,
but
that's
what
ball
courts
here
at
Owen
Park
have
been
resurfaced:
Warren
Wilson
students
also
repainted
the
basketball
goals
and
metal
baskets
were
added
to
the
goals.
The
students
also
beautified
the
entrance
son
for
the
park,
and
since
this
show
is
about
getting
outside
a
plane,
jun
11th
is
national.
Get
outside
day.
Here's
carolyn
again
to
tell
us
more.
D
I'm
going
to
tell
you
about
a
new
special
event
that
we
have
this
year
to
celebrate
national
get
outside
day,
which
is
on
Saturday
June.
Eleventh
we're
going
to
be
hosting
a
camp
out
in
our
recreation
park,
located
right
off
of
Blue
Ridge
Road.
The
event
will
feature
a
cookout
and
a
nature.
Hike
will
have
activities
for
the
kids
going
on
and
you'll
be
able
to
set
up
your
tent
and
camp
right
in
recreation
park
right
in
the
middle
of
our
town
and
not
far
from
your
back
door.
D
So
this
is
a
great
way
to
go
camping
for
the
first
time
with
especially
with
little
kids
and
it's
going
to
be
a
lot
of
fun.
So
look
for
more
information
on
that
on
our
website,
which
is
BM,
recreation,
calm
and
also
on
our
Facebook.
You
can
friend
us
on
Facebook
just
search
for
black
mountain
recreation
and
parks,
and
this
summer
we've
got
a
couple
of
different
summer
camps
going
on
for
the
kids
and
they
are
day
camps.
They
run
from
9am
until
5pm.
D
One
of
those
is
called
Black
Mountain
summer
adventures
and
the
kids
will
be
running
around
the
parks.
Doing
some
geocaching
visiting
the
pool
doing
a
lot
of
art
activities
and
that
camp
is
offered
for
four
different
weeks
this
summer,
beginning
in
june
two
weeks
in
june,
two
weeks
in
july,
and
then
for
one
week
in
June,
we'll
be
offering
a
camp
focused
on
gardening
and
cooking
and
the
dig
in
summer
camp
for
kids
aged
8
to
11
and
that's
the
week
of
June
twentieth
to
24th
for
more
information
on
any
of
those
camps.
D
A
H
Now,
time
for
the
update
on
Buncombe
County,
Special,
Olympics
I
wanted
to
share
with
you
some
information
and
some
results
from
our
march.
The
eleventh
and
twelfth
tournament
that
was
held
in
Charlotte
cheerleaders
and
33
on
three
on
three
basketball
teams
went
to
Charlotte's
spent
the
night
and
then
did
their
competitions.
H
Congratulations
to
