Sheriff's
Office
emergency
communications
staff
serve
a
vital
role
as
the
initial
point
of
contact
for
individuals
seeking
emergency
assistance.
These
operators
understand
the
gravity
of
their
responsibilities
and
are
dedicated
to
handling
emergency
situations
with
the
highest
degree
of
care
and
efficiency.
They
receive
rigorous
training
to
ensure
they
can
effectively
communicate
with
distressed
individuals.

the
month

through
the

designated
gold
star
spouse's
day
to
be
recognized
each
year
as
a
day
dedicated
to
those
whose
spouses
sacrifice
their
lives
while
serving
in
the
United
States
armed
forces
or
as
a
result
of
service-related
disabilities.

each
year
on
April
5th
counties,
Across
the
Nation
will
honor
and
recognize
the
surviving
loved
ones
of
military
service
members
who
became
members
of
an
exclusive
community.
No
one
asks
to
join
April
5th
serves
as
a
recognition
of
the
sacrifice
made
by
military
spouses,
a
memorial
for
the
Fallen

Remembrance
Day
for
the
survivors
and
an
appreciation
day
for
those
who
are

overlooked

service

county
is
proud

three
times
more
than
the
national
average
of
children
whose
parents
serve
in
the
military.

children
of
our
service
members
make
significant
contributions
to
schools,
communities,
the
nation
and
our
country.
Despite
prolonged
and
repeated
absences
of
one
or
both
parents.

children
shoulder
the
burdens
of
service
facing
unique
challenges
from
a
young
age,
including
frequent
moves,
leaving
friends,
schools
and
communities
behind
the
month
of
the
military.

our

youth

Calvert
County
Child
Advocacy
team
reports
that
many
of
the
youngest
and
most
vulnerable
citizens
seek
out
support
each
year
for
abuse
through
our
child
advocacy
center
Calvert
County
calls
on
all
Citizens
Community
agencies,
medical
and
mental
health
providers,
elected
officials,
schools
and
businesses
to
increase
their
collaboration
with
the
Calvert
County
Child
Advocacy
team,
in
support
of
child
victims
of
maltreatment
and
to
prevent
child
abuse
and
strengthen
the
community
in
which
we
live.

proclaimed
that
the
month
of
April
2023
be
known
as
Child
Abuse
Prevention
month
in
Calvert
County,
Autism,
Awareness,
Month
recognition
according
to
the
Centers
for
Disease
Control
and
prevention,
autism
in
Pacs
1
in
36
individuals,
regardless
of
their
race,
Creed
or
socioeconomic
status.
This
disorder
not
only
affects
the
individual
with
autism,
but
also
their
families,
friends,
schools
and
local
communities.
Autism,
spectrum
disorder,
ASD
or
Autism
is
the
fastest
growing
serious
developmental
ability
that
results
from
a
neurological
disorder
hindering
a
person's
ability
to
communicate,
respond
to
surroundings,
effectively
problem
solve
and
form
relationships
with.
A
Others.
Autism
is
a
spectrum
disorder
characterized
in
varying
degrees
by
difficulties
in
social
interaction,
verbal
and
non-verbal
communication,
medical
conditions
and
restricted
and
repetitive
behaviors
autism
can
be
associated
with
intellectual
disability
difficulties
in
motor
coordination
and
attention
and
issues
with
mental
and
medical
health.

the
month

Autism
Awareness
Month
in
Calvert
County
National
Fair
Housing
month
recognition,
April,
11
2023
marks
the
55th
anniversary
of
the
passage
of
the
U.S
Fair
Housing
Act,
creating
a
National
Fair
Housing
policy
to
ban
discrimination
based
on
race,
color,
religion,
national
origin,
sex,
familial
status
or
disability.
The
Fair
Housing
Act
reflects
America's
determination
to
to
ensure
appropriate
housing
and
services
are
available
to
all
without
discrimination
at
each
stage
of
one's
life.
A
The
talents
of
Grassroots
and
non-profit
organizations,
housing,
service
providers,
housing
professionals,
financial
institutions,
elected
officials,
state
agencies
and
others
must
be
combined
to
promote
and
preserve
integration,
fair
housing
and
shared
opportunity

address
the
immense
challenge
of
ensuring
that
every
person
in
Calvert
County
has
access
to
housing.
The

proclaimed
that
the
month
of

known
as
fair
housing
month
in
Calvert.
County
public
hearing
department
of
Parks
and
Recreation
Breezy
Point
Beach,
Shoreline
restoration
budget
adjustment.
A
Over
the
past
five
years,
the
bocc
department
of
Parks
and
Recreation
Calvert
soil
conservation
and
the
Maryland
Department
of
Natural
Resources
MD
DNR
have
partnered
to
develop
a
project
to
protect
the
severely
eroding
Shoreline
at
the
south
end
of
Breezy
Point,
B,
Beach
and
Campground.
This
project
will
mitigate
the
damage
caused
by
environmental
conditions
and
flooding
identified
in
the
Calvert
County
flood
mitigation
plan.
Shoreline
erosion
is
a
natural
process
that
occurs
when
water
erodes
away
the
shoreline
over
time.
A
Erosion
can
cause
significant
damage
to
Coastal
communities,
including
loss
of
property,
damage
to
infrastructure
and
harm
to
Wildlife
and
marine
ecosystems.
In
addition
to
physical
damage,
erosion
could
also
impact
local
economies
by
reducing
the
appeal
of
tourist
destinations
and
decreasing
property
values.
There
are
a
variety
of
techniques
used
to
manage
erosion,
including
Beach,
nourishment
sea
walls
and
other
forms
of
Coastal
Engineering.
It
is
becoming
increasingly
important
to
develop
sustainable
and
effective
strategies
to
protect
vulnerable
coastlines.
A
A
current
capital
Improvement
plan,
CIP
Project
funding
of
three
million
nine
hundred
thousand
dollars
is
still
allocated
for
construction
of
offshore
breakwaters
and
Beach
restoration
after
obtaining
quotes
for
the
the
project.
All
proposals
have
been
higher
than
the
budget
currently
allocated.
An
additional
1.1
million
is
required
to
complete
the
project
and
provide
a
contingency
amount
for
unforeseen
circumstances.
A
budget
adjustment
of
this
amount
should
be
accounted
for
in
the
FY
23
budget.
A
The
budget
adjustment
requires
a
public
hearing
because
it
is
in
excess
of
one
hundred
and
fifty
thousand
dollars
upon
taking
public
comment
and
after
discussion.
The
boccc
closed
the
record
and
directed
staff
to
return
in
10
days
and
request.

the

Handler
pay.
A
public
hearing
was
held
on
April
4th
2023
to
amend
pay
and
adjustments
of
chapter
86,
Personnel
Calvert
County
code
pertaining
to
premium
pay
for
canine
handlers.
Currently,
the
code
does
not
provide
premium
pay
for
canine
handlers.
A
The
sheriff's
office
currently
has
11
K-9
handlers
and
13
dogs
that
are
not
compensated
for
the
care
and
maintenance
of
the
dog.
This
includes
includes
bathing
brushing,
exercising
feeding,
grooming,
cleaning
of
dog's,
kennel
or
transport
vehicle
administering
medicines
for
illness,
transporting
the
dog
to
and
from
an
animal
hospital
or
veterinarian
and
training
after
public
comment,
the
bocc
closed
the
record
and
directed
staff
to
return
in
10
days
to
request
additional
action
on
the
ordinance
appointment.

21
2013
and
the
designation
must
be
renewed
every
five
years.
The
designation
provides
benefits
from
the
state,
including
quote

opportunity
to
access
an
intra-agency,
revitalization
toolbox
of
financing
programs
and
tax
and
incentives.

quote

range
of
benefits
includes
grants,
tax
credits
and
Loans
from
several
Maryland
state
departments,
including
the
Departments
of
environment,
Housing
and
Community,
Development
and
transportation.

designation
allows
local
governments,
businesses
and
homeowners
to
access
several
of
the
state's
grants,
loans
and
tax
credits.
The
informational
presentation
was
to
assist
the
bocc
and
better
understanding
resources
available
to
our
community
through
a
Maryland
sustainable
Community
designation,
work
session,
Department
of
Finance
and
budget
FY
24
staff
recommended
budget
follow-up.
The
annual
budget
process
progresses
in
three
phases.
The
first
phase
is
the
staff
recommended
budget
SRB.
A
public
hearing
was
held
on
March
21
2023
to
present
and
receive
public
comment
on
the
SRB
for
fy24
phase.
One
is
complete
phase.
A
Two
is
the
commissioner's
budget.
There
will
be
a
public
hearing
for
that
budget
on
May
16
2023,
the
SRB
was
presented
it
with
a
41
million
dollar
deficit
and
staff
was
seeking
additional
guidance
from
the
bocc
on
what
to
include
or
exclude
on
the
commissioner's
Budget
prior
to
the
May
public
hearing,
the
bocc
provided
additional
feedback
to
consider
reducing
the
overall
operating
budget
across
all
departments
by
10.
In
order
to
assist
in
balancing
the
budget
ahead
of
the
May
commissioner's
budget
hearing,
the
bocc
will
not
meet
April
11
2023.

seeks

input
to
identify
issues.
