Stefani Capizzi grew up in New England as a middle child in a family of 5. She generally lived in Vermont since 1996. She has 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren who live in Vermont, and she loves to see them whenever she can. She's a 55 year old person in long term recovery from Alcoholism. Capizzi has been on a lifelong journey as a songwriter, singer, and musician, and it’s a big part of who she is. Professionally, after raising children, including 6 years of home-schooling them, Capizzi worked in health care and addiction recovery fields. She was a nurse for 10 years and an Executive Director of an addiction recovery center for 7 years. Capizzi had the honor of being a Recovery Coach for 10 years, including emergency department work. She continues to do individual recovery coaching through North Central Vermont Recovery Center. Additionally, today she works in the field of addiction medicine. She has also served in roles that address criminal justice and homelessness.
In 2019, Capizzi left Vermont and lived and traveled in an RV for the better part of 2 years. She could write a book about that part, and probably will some day. This year, she's been working on an album of original songs that’s about to be released. Fifty percent of all physical CD sales will be donated to addiction recovery services.

Why
didn't

meet
this
person
while
they
were
alive?
So
this

is
really
an
anecdote
to
that
so
that
you
will
get
a
chance

meet
someone
who's

much
alive
and
vibrant
life
and
and
we'll
have
the
opportunity
to
get
to
know
them
and
appreciate
all
that
they
are
and
who
they
are.

so
from
from
the
beginning,
ish
well,
I
was
born
in
Willimantic,
Connecticut
middle
child
of
three
I
have
an
older
brother
and
a
younger
sister
and
I
might
say:
I
was
born
into
a
crossfire
between
Italian
and
Irish
families,
Irish,
Catholic
families
and
I.
Know,
let's
see
it's.
My
grandfather
on
my
Irish
side
certainly
had
a
problem
with
well.

listened
to

lot

guess
both

what
it's

and
Rock
so

and
so
and
I
was

really
was
a
tomboy,
mostly
all
in
my
childhood
love
climbing
trees,

favorite
thing
to
do,
and
we
rode
dirt
bikes
and
so
there's
stuff
like
that.
My
dad
always
had
us
riding
dirt
bikes,
not
really
my
little
sister,
but
my
brother
and
myself.

splitting
up
a
lot
and

to
think
they

me

time,

many

I
don't
remember,
are
just
remembered
pieces

influence

me.

can
say
that

female
artists
along
like

Aretha
Franklin,

Stevie,
Nicks
and
later
Nancy,

the
kind
of
music
I
was
doing.

lot
was
like
Crosby,
Stills
and
Nash
mixed
with
Johnny
Cash,
and
you
know
a
lot
of
male
and
female
Bob
Dylan.
Of
course.
So
but
Joni
Mitchell
might
have
been
one
of
my
bigger.

so
that's
where
I
graduated
from
and
I
had
another
child.
Three
years
later
got
married
before
the
children
before
the
children
came,
and
so
I
got
married
young
when
I
was
18,
and
so
we
lived
on
the
cape
in
this
little
house
in
Mashpee
for
about
nine
years
and
and
then
moved
to
Vermont
like
I.

and
so
when
we
lived
there,
I
was
homeschooling
them
and
it
was
pretty
isolated
in
the
winter.
We
had
to
take
this
snowmobile
all
the
way
down
to
the
bottom,
and
back
so,
and
my
husband
would
get
in
this
little
old
van.
We
had
and
drive
like
an
hour
and
a
half
away
to
go
to
work.
Some
apartments.

Wood
with
the
wood
stove,
which
really
this
was
a
big
cabin-
it
had
four
little
bedrooms
upstairs.
It
was
very
rustic
but-
and
the
downstairs
was
wide
open,
kitchen,
dining
like
living
room
thing,
and
so
this
wood
stove,
which
we
would
huddle
around
I,
could
tell
you
doing
school
work
and
so
but
like
you,
could
see
your
breath
in
the
bathroom.
So
it
really
did
not
exactly
that.

So
that
was
like
a
lot
of
that
life,
though,
at
that
time,
I
was
pregnant
again
expecting
twin
girls
and
I
lost
them.
While
we
were
there
when
I
was
about
and
they
are
still
buried
there,
because
my
dad
still
owns
that
property
and
it's
like
up
in
the
woods
where
we
buried
them,
so
that's
still
there,
and
just
shortly
after
that
happened,
we
moved
to
lamoille
counties.

My
husband
was
working
closer
to
here
he
was
driving
the
old
van,
and
so
we
got
a
house
or
rented
a
house
in
the
Wolcott
Vermont
here
which
way
up
here.
Culture
and
I
was
still
homeschooling
them
at
that
time.
You
know,
let's
see
oh
I'm,
not
sure
where
I
want
to
go
with
this.
Do
you
have
something
else,

could
just
keep

got
married
early,

you

young

dreams

wanted

grew

thinking

well

right,
like
sort
of
any

that,
whatever
it
might
have
been
kind
of
got.

don't
know
stopped
is
the
word,
but
through
a
lot
of
the
other
through
the
life
of
raising
them
and
where
we
were
and
went
and
I
think
just
when
I
was
a
younger
girl
for
whatever
I
wanted
to
go
into
the
field
of
psychology
or
something
to
do
with
art
and
I.
Don't
because
I
also
would
another
thing
that
got
me
through
I
should
have
remembered.

Feels
like
I
thought,
where
I
came
up
with
psychology
I'm,
not
sure,
except
always
been
fascinating,
but
the
human
mind,
but
really
when-
and
there
was
in
early
on
there
was
which
I
could
back
up
into
drug
use
so
discovering.
When
I
was
in
high
school,
particularly
discovering
speed.
It
was
a
really
a
kind
of
became
a
important
part,
I
guess
of
a
lot
of
years
and
alcohol.
So
I
know
it
was
a
lot
of
alcohol
in
my
growing
up,
especially
in
the
bar
room.

really
have,
and
a
lot
of
a
lot
of
it
probably
was
a
lot
of
counseling,
not
that
it's
you
know
a
lot
of
years
on
and
off,
I
think
in
in
many
ways
and
otherwise

except
this
intrinsic
stubbornness,
I
guess,
because
there
were
a
lot
of
things
that
kind
of
were
sheer
determination.

feel
that,
like
today,
that
is
still
kind
of
how
I
am
but
I

Also,
you
know
like
I,
went
to
church
and
maybe
I
was
trying
to
make
it
be
the
opposite
of
what
I
you
know
grew
up
in
and
and
so
there's
probably
a
lot
of
reasons,
and
in
my
growing
up
years
there
was
a
lot
of
Affairs
going
on
with
my
dad
and
so
I
think
it.
You
know
really
kind
of
crashed
a
lot
of
this
stuff,
but
it
was
the
thing
that
made
me
turn
around
and
kind
of
look
eventually
anyway.

Ask
myself
things
like
You're
My
like
what
do
I
want
and
what
you
know.
What
do
I
want
like
and
had
never
thought
much
about
that,
and
so,
but
so
I
decided
to
go
back
to
or
to
go
to
nursing
school.
This
idea
came
to
my
head.
First
I
trained
in
or
I
went
to
I
just
think,
I
started
because
I
I
just
decided
to
take
a
biology
class
because
I
thought
it
was
like
get
me
out
of
the
house
or
whatever
and
and
that
sort
of
led
me
into
going
to
nursing
school.

We
really
really
were
quite
broke,
most
of
the
time,
let's
say,
and
so
I
was
driving
them
into
three
places
and
working
part-time
and
going
to
nursing
school
and
trying
really
like
running
the
household,
because
my
husband
did
not
agree
with
me
going
to
school
and
doing
this
whole
and
so
I
think
to
keep
the
whatever
you
know.
I
was
still
doing
all
the
groceries,
cooking
and
budgeting,
and
so,
like
I,
think
about
that,
and
it's
just
Insanity
to
me.
That
was
like
sure,
sheer
determination.

Back
to
maybe
that
question
I,
don't
it's
an
excellent
question
about
the
reconciling,
because
I
actually
stayed
eight
more
years
in
that
marriage
and
working
as
a
nurse
and
but
with
a
lot
of
difficulty
and
trying
and
counseling.
You
know
about
and
then
coming
to
recognize
some
like
really
basic
glaring
things
in
the
marriage,
but
also
one
was
the
alcohol
problem,
so
I
decided
and
I
had
started
to
do
some
things.

So
the
record
reconciling
of
what
happened
with
the
marriage
I
think
in
my
head,
what
I
tried
to
do
is
just
shove
it
away
and
act
like
you
know,
everything
was
about
act
like
and
look
like.
It
was
all
fine,
and
so
that
went
on
for
a
long
time,
except
kind
of
also
like
growing
and
learning
who
I
was
and
starting
to
gain
something
more.
That
I
meant
something
that
took
a
long
time,
but
it
was
really
hard
to
completely
reconcile
that,
because
so
I
went
away
to
treatment.

And
fix
it
and
and
came
back
and
I,
you
know
soon
realized
that
it
was
even
more
clear
to
me.
You
know
that
it
wasn't
gonna
work
and
I
left
about
a
year
later,
so
the
reconciling
part
was
hard
because
of
how
well
I
tried
to
have
to
block
it
or
whatever
in
my
head.
So
I
wasn't
overreacting
not
at
all,
because
because
that
always
was
some
sort
of
fear.

I
was
nursing
and
I
left
that
occupation
because
of
some
other
challenges
and
wasn't
sure
what
I
was
gonna
do
it
became
challenging
also
because
so
much
of
it
became
about
documentation,
and
you
know
the
things
we
know
we
have
to
do
today,
especially
because
of
electronic
medical
records
and-
and
that
was
hard
and
I
came
to
discover.
I
really
wanted
to
work
in
the
field
of
recovery,
because
here
I
was
a
person
in
recovery.

This
position
became
available
for
an
executive
director
of
Recovery
Center
Morrisville
that
was
really
just
being
born
kind
of
and
yes
and
I
knew
some
of
the
people
that
were
on
the
board.
So
this
sort
of
became
a
conversation
and
was
I
interested
and
in
the
end
anyway,
I
I
did
take
it.
We
went
back
and
forth
a
little
bit.
I
wasn't.

Was
really
the
first
and,
as
you
know,
it
was
really
a
baby.
You
know
that
was
a
baby
into
learning
how
or
just
kind
of
making
it
up
as
I
went.
That's
all
I
can
say,
but
of
course,
a
lot
of
learning
I'm
in
getting
documents
and
things
that
were
already
perhaps
from
the
rest
of
the
Vermont
recovery
Network
so,
and
that
was
an
amazing
seven
year.
Journey,
like
a
lot
of
so
much
growth
and
meeting
amazing
people
like
you
and.

Statewide
and
legislature,
you
know
trying
to
help
as
we
all
did
have
recovery
work
recognized
for
how
important
it
is.
But,
as
you
know,
we
were
a
tiny
piece
of
what
was
recognized
in
the
whole
realm
of
treatment.
You
know
for
substance,
abuse
issue,
so
I'm
amazed,
I'm
still
amazed
today,
where
it
is
compared
to
then
it's
just
so
I'm.

So
personally,
I
was
still
writing
a
lot
of
songs
and
doing
music,
but
maybe
halfway
through
now
less
than
that,
this
job
we
were
just
talking
about
with
the
recovery
center
I
started
playing
music
out
so
being
scared
to
death
and
nervous,
but
I
started
it
with
this
other
person
in
the
community
who
was
like
just
come.
Do
this,
he
was
extremely
chill
I'm
not
at
all,
and
he
still
is,
but
it
was
my
start
into
like
really
playing
music
out,
and
that
became
something
I.
That's.

The
things
that
happened
in
my
younger
life,
even
if
they
were
big
and
maybe
important,
to
say
out
loud
for
helping
other
people,
but
this
song
I
guess
we
could
just

struggles
terribly
with
addiction.
Also,
and
this
song
came
last
from
last
summer,
a
week
sort
of
I
don't
know
if
I'd
say
we
reconciled,
but
for
no,
that's
not
the
word
for
a
lot
of
years.

sort
of
had
to
keep
like
not
feel
the
things,
because
it's
really
hard
when
you're
parent.

love

loving

shaming

not
going

help
anybody.

wouldn't
help
me.

go
traveling
around

undetermined
amount
of
time,

really
didn't
have
a
plan.

know
what
I

gonna
do
and
this
wasn't
a
lifelong
goal.

putting
his
plan
together
that

so

was
listening
to
him.

talking
all
the
time
about
what
he's
doing,
to
get
things
ready
and

the
stuff
he
had
researched
or
whatever,

it's
got
me
thinking

Were
they
were
attempts
at
blogging
like
I,
had
never
vlogged
before
you
know,
and
before
I
left
people
were
like,
you
really
should
have
a
Blog,
so
you
can
keep
up
with
you
and
I
was
like
what's
a
Blog
and
why
would
I
ever
want
to
do
that?
But
then
I
I
kind
of
like
someone
on
my
first
stop
after
I
had
headed
out
some
old
friends.
Their
daughter,
like
set
one
up
for
me
and
I'll,
gave
me
some
thoughts,
and
so
I
would
try
to
do
that.

I
mean
it
certainly
was
a
journey,
but,
and
it
was
an
inside
job
Journey,
you
know,
and
it
taught
me
a
lot
and
I
think
I
grew
a
lot
of
Courage.
Out
of
you
know,
you
know
figuring
out
all
those
things
and
yeah
the
second.
The
second
time
you're
out
was
difficult.
I
have
a
lot
more
troubles
with
the
RV
and
having
to
fix
it,
and
I
had
brought
a
little
motorcycle
with
me
on
the
back
of
my
RV
that
time
around
so
I'd
have
something
to
because
often
the
RV
would
be
hooked
up.

You
know
somewhere
yeah
and
I
wasn't
towing
a
car,
so
I
ended
up
having
to
sell
that
little
motorcycle
to
fix
the
RV.
It
was
just
always
the
game
of
you
know,
and
it
was
so
there's
a
lot
of
stressors
like
the
engine
light
was
on
all
the
time,
so
just
that
year.
That
was
definitely
difficult
and
I
went
into
sort
of
a
depression
for
a
little
while
which
I'm,
not
even
sure.
Quite
you
know
it
might
have
been
just
the
piling
on
of
a
lot
of
that.

Work
on
RVs,
and
so
the
and
the
depression
I
was
kind
of
out
in
the
in
the
desert
in
Arizona
kind
of
through
some
of
that,
and
that
was
even
harder.
My
generator
kept
breaking
I
mean
it
was
just
like
crying
yeah,
I'm,
not
sure,
but
it
did
pass
and
I
think
I
thought
later
for
some
reason
like
that
all
peace
was
supposed
to
happen,
like
I,
was
supposed
to
cry
a
million
tears
that
I
never
cried
through
all
those
other
people
stuff.
That
happened.

So
many
people
struggle
with
that
kind
of
thing
every
day
for
years
and
years
right,
but
in
my
own
journey
I
think
it
was
supposed
to
teach
me
some
things,
and
so
the
whole
thing
taught
me
some
things:
I
became
just
like
really
petrified,
like
I,
wanted
to
go
home
and
get
back
across
the
country,
but
I
couldn't
and
I
was
like
paralyzed.

time,
though
I
do

my
head

sort
of
this
whole
thing
about
life

choice

resilient.

back,
I
think
I'm
way
more
resilient.

had
any
idea
that
I
was

don't
believe
it
in
here

gonna.

inside
work
that
you've
talked
about
over
the
years
has
really
allowed
you
to
get
rid
of
those
shame
clothes
and
put
on
the
Stephanie
that
you
are,
which
is
someone
who's
accomplished
adventurous
you
know,
wants
to
enjoy
life
while
you
have
it
and
share
it
with
others
too.

sounds
yeah.

with
others

there's
a
lot.
We
can
do
I
think
in
this
world
same
with
a
lot.
We
can
do
helping
each
other,
you
know
and
helping
and
volunteering
I'm
a
huge
believer
in
volunteers
and
I.
Just
want
people
to
are
in
volunteering
and
I
think
maybe
a
lot
of
people
just
don't
think
of
it
or
think
they
can
or
that
they
have
with
time.
But
it's
a
huge
piece
of
also
what
I
do
with
like
our
local
criminal
justice
system
in
a
homeless
population
and
that
everybody
needs
everybody
needs
each
other.
