rezoning
at

june
14th
meeting
and
after
review

comments

the
applicant

the

voted.

to

to
recommend
requested
zoning
be
denied
as
the
opinion
the
view
of
the
planning
commission.
The
recommendation
is
that
the
requested
zoning
is
not
consistent
with
the
comprehensive
plan
and
not
compatible
with
the
surrounding
uses.
So
the
recommendation
from
the
planning
commission
is
brought
forward
and
council
has
this
before
you
for
first
reading
this
evening,.

business
is

reduce

also
treat

not

a

area
for
parking
in
the
front,
as
well

bat,

line
life
who

next
to
us

only

utilizes

front
parking,

frees

back

to
use,
and
we
can
balance
the
traffic
that
way.
But
the
reason
why
they
use
the
front
parking
is
because
they
don't
have
a
rear
entrance.

city
council
will
look
at
all
the
information
available
to

decide
if
it's
consistent
with
the
comprehensive
plan

also
if
it's
consistent
with
the
area
and
compatible
with

building
and
the
usage,

does.

far
as
the
objections
I
have
addressed
them,
meaning
the
home
values
and
the
parking
I
I
think
I
have
addressed
them
because
mr
calhoun's,
I'm
not
sure
if
he
realized,
but
his
property
is
also
zone.
Limited
professional,
mr
thornhills
is
also
known
as
limited
professional.

Mr
thornhill
is
currently
seeking
an
exception
for
his
bed
and
breakfast
right
now,
but
looking
at
the
home
values,
there's
a
lot
of
factors
that
goes
into
deciding
what
affects
home
values,
market
value
assessed,
values
all
those
and
it's
just
not
one
factor
and
public
information.
I
have
looked
up
the
home
values
of
mr
calhoun
and
mr
staff.
There's
no,
no
indication
that
mr
staff's
home
value
was
affected
being
next
to
mr
calhoun's
property
as
a
limited
professional
and
then,
mr
also
mr
thornhill's
home
value
as
well.

think
if
we
can
rezone
it
to
limited
business,
it's
still
in
keeping
with
a
very
limited
commercial
use
because
under

for
professional,
a
wide
range
of
businesses
more
wide
or
more
broader
than
a
limited
professional
was
used,
and
I

don't
see
because
limited
professional
and
limited
business,
they're
they're
intended
to
be
classified
as
a
transitional
area
to
be

blend
in
with
residential
uses.

think
it's
still
in
keeping
with
the
purpose
and
the
intent
of
the
zoning,
but
it
would

against

letter

front

me

sent
to
the
planning
commission.

like
to
make
sure
that
you
all

aware
of
how
I
feel
about
mrs
ott
being
a
tenant
in
property
that
I
own
aiken
is
my
home.
My
husband,
george

I
have
lived
and
raised
our
family
and
owned
businesses
volunteered
and
worshiped
and
aching
for
more
than
40
years.

operated
a
business
with
more
than
300
employees.
My
priority
has
always
been
to
be
a
good
neighbor
in
both
business
and
life.

support
mrs
ott's
application
to
rezoning
to
limited
business

aiken

Contouring

aesthetics
she's
been
a
successful
businesswoman
in
columbia,
south
carolina
she
has
resided
and
been
a
homeowner
in
aitkin
county
for
25
plus
years
and
she's
now
looking
to
invest
in
the
city
of
aitkin
small
locally
owned
businesses,
like
mrs
arts,
are
vital
to
our
community.

also
donate
two
rooms
and
storage
space
to
a
non-profit
organization
here
in
aitkin
that
uses
the
the
their
space
one
day
a
week
and
aikens
and
as
mrs
arts
stated,
aching
body
and
contour

plan

based
on
servicing
anywhere
from
zero
to
five
clients
a
day
under
limited
business.
Some
of
the
limited
commercial
uses
that
are
allowed
by
right,
some
with
additional
conditions,
such
as
small
scale,
bank
furniture
store
grocery
store,
presently
exist
in
the
relative
in
the
immediate
area.

We
take
stewardship
of
providing
commercial
spaces
to
local
businesses
very
seriously.
It
is
a
civic
duty
to
support
those
who
would
be
not
just
be
great
tenants
but
assets
to
our
community
as
a
fellow
business
owner.

great
confidence
and
in
the
spirit
of
being
a
good
neighbor
that
I
suppose,
support
mrs
ott's

petition

three
lots:
residential
lots.

had
on
the
north
side
on
sunktor
street
in
the
schofield
neighborhood
and
I
was
petitioning
you
to
rezone
them
from
general
business
back
to
single
family
residential,
and
that
was
done
because
I
felt
that
the
residential
integrity
and
character
of
that
neighborhood
was
best
reflected
with
residential,
not
general
business.

My
request
was
enthusiastically
received
by
council
leslie.
I
think
you
were
here
at
the
time.
I
got
a
wonderful
letter
of
confirmation
from
roger
leduc.
Actually
thanking
me
for
this
effort
of
rezoning
for
doing
what
council
agreed
was
appropriate
for
the
character
of
that
neighborhood
in
remaining
residential
in
nature.

Now
we
have
coexisted
in
our
neighborhood
with
the
current
limited
professional
zoning
for
many
years
and
decades,
I've
lived
there
for
15
years.
We've
had
no
problems
with
the
tenants
with
the
chiropractor.
That's
there.
He
has
plenty
of
parking
in
front.
He
takes
up
like
eight
of
those
10
spaces,
there's
never
anyone
that
has
to
use
florence
street
as
a
public
parking
lot,
because
there's
adequate
parking
in
on
premises
to
take
care
of
his
customers.

Now
we
are
not
alone
in
feeling
that
this
is
a
threat
to
the
neighborhood.
The
planning
commission
5-1
voted
in
recommending
you
to
deny
this
petition.
Why?
Because,
if
you
look
at
the
map,
it
is
not
compatible.
There
is
no
limited
business
in
our
area.
It's
all
limited,
professional
or
residential,
so
creating
a
limited
business
spot
in
that
area
opens
pandora's
box
for
others
to
say
you
did
it
for
them.
Why
not
do
it?

For
me,
it
also,
unfortunately,
has
come
to
this
for
a
reason
that
miss
ott
has
expended
serious
money
for
remodeling
this
business
with
outdoing
and
signing
a
long-term
contract
with
a
crawford's
without
doing
her
due
diligence
to
see
whether
that
activity
was
properly
known
for
it.
So
the
monies
were
expanded
before
the
due
diligence
or
the
homework
was
done
and
now
what
is
she
doing?

problems

She
intends

this
space
for
these
other
beauty,

and

there
now
at
the
planning
commission
meeting,
she
said
that
she
was
not
conducting
business
her
business
right
now,
but
it's
obvious
from
us
that
are
in
the
neighborhood
that
somebody's
conducting
business
there,
because
there
are
cars
coming
and
going
it
may
be.
That
is
the
other
independent
contractors
that
are
doing
business
there.

don't
know,
but
somebody
is-
and
we
have
seen
repeated
problems
with
parking
since
this
business
was
opened,
we've
had
cars
parked
in
the
parkway
completely
in
the
parkway,
which
is
not
the
way
it's
supposed
to
be.
That's
not
in
accordance
with
the
parking
lots.
We've
had
cars
parked
on
the
sidewalk.
We've
had
cars
going
the
wrong
direction
on
our
street
because
they
don't
know
which
way
to
go.
It's
a
two-way,
it's
a
one-way
street,
so
we've
had
repeated
problems,
and
this
is
before
she
says:
she's
even
operating
her
business.

designation

operates
as

professional
and

don't

existing

seem
to
be
an
issue

he

daily
basis,

see
cars
parked
in
the

we
will

in

require
anybody

bike

good

never
had
problems
with

neighborhood
decrying

sharing

in

and

go
