citizens

city

aitkin
to
renew
and
deepen
their
appreciation
for
the
unique
impression
precious
heritage
passed
on
to
us
by
our
founding
fathers.

the
united
states
constitution
presented
september,
12,
2022
and
without
reading.

through

Week
is
a
commemoration
of
america's
most
important
document.

This
celebration
of
the
constitution
was
started
by
the
daughters
of
the
american
revolution
in
1955,
dar
petitioned
congress
to
set
aside
september
17th
through
the
23rd
annually
to
be
dedicated
for
the
observance
of
constitution
week.
The
resolution
was
later
adopted
by
the
u.s
congress
and
signed
into
public
law
on
august,
2nd
1956
by
president

d.

american

These
two,
ladies,
are
very
impactful
in
our
community
when
it
comes
to
this
mission
and
the
mission
behind
mental
health
in
particularly
these
two
women
there's,
there's
a
there's,
a
slew
of
us
out
there
in
the
community
that
are
pushing
and
beating
the
drum
to
create
that
awareness.
I
mean
these
statistics
are
very
sobering
and
when
we
you
compare
aitkin
county
to
our
state,
we're
pretty
high
in
mental
health
problems,
and
then,
when
you
compare
us
to
the
country
even
more
so,
but
I
do.
I
do
want
to
mention
something.

And
so
we
appreciate
you
bonnie,
because
you
impact
our
community
every
day.
But
I'm
telling
you
this
woman
answers
hundreds
of
calls
around
the
clock
24
hours
a
day,
seven
days
a
week
in
our
community
in
our
county,
for
people
that
we
know
our
friends,
our
children,
our
students,
our
parents,
our
aunts
or
uncles
or
cousins.
So
that's
bonnie
and
rashika.

when
we're
having
to
do
things
all
over
the
community.

share

why,

I
was
going
to
address
something
that
was
on
your
agenda
under
new
business
number
two,
but
it's
been
taken
off
the
agenda's
change
and
it
has
to
do
with
the
the
first
writer
refusal
for
lots,
one
and
one
a
owned
by
a
bank
in
the
aviation
business
park.
I
won't
be
here
next
council
meeting,
and
so
I
wanted
to
give
you
my
comments
today
on
that.

This
is
some
prime
property
that
that
you
all
I'm
sure,
know
about
that.
That
can
be
of
great
use
in
the
future,
not
maybe
immediately,
but
for
this
airport,
great
airport,
that
we
have
out
there
and
what
we
can
use
it
for
is
just
a
number
of
different
improvements
and,
of
course,
can't
tell
you
what
those
improvements
are
now,
because
we
got
to
get
the
money
to
understand
what
kind
of
improvements
we
can
make
there
granted.

It
may
be
a
generation
before
this
happens,
but
we
have
to
provide
this
opportunity
in
order
for
our
airport
to
continue
to
slowly
grow
or
never
with
continued
growth
of
of
the
communities
around
here,
and
I
just
want
to
reference
where
I
live
in
the
reserve
right
down
the
street
from
me.
I
don't
know
they're
putting
in
another
40
50
lots
down
in
there,
and-
and
you
know
the
the
city
is
adding
all
around
and,
as
we
add,
there's
going
to
be
more
requirements
for
this
airport.

People
are
going
to
use
this
airport
in
many
different
ways.
Maybe
it's
their
own
airport,
their
own
airplane,
or
they
may
go
there
and
hire
for
hire.
Somebody
to
take
them
somewhere
or
something
like
that.
It's
it's
a
largely.
I
think
my
my
biggest
concern
is
the
sale
of
the
property
to
the
bank
could
end
up
that
with
something
that's
not
compatible
with
the
character
of
the
area.

Who
knows
what
could
be
put
in
there,
and
I
think
it's
once
again,
like
I
said
something:
that's
compatible
with
the
area
would
be
an
aviation
related
thing,
another
hanger,
potentially
moving
or
or
making
the
the
terminal
bigger.
Something
like
that
as
an
interested
party
in
full
disclosure.
I
am
on
the
aviation
commission,
but
I'm
also
a
concerned
citizen,
and
I
ask
that
you
seriously
consider
looking
at
the
city
ordinance
once
again
in
in
in
not
to
waive
the
the
city
rights
that
we
may
have.

congratulations

following
your

law.
I
want
to
talk
about
being
a
county
resident.
Even
though
county
residents
do
not
have
a
vote,
they
should
have
a
voice,
especially
considering
how
many
are
on
city,
water,
sewer
and
fire
protection
services,
and
how
many
county
residents
frequent
aiken
for
health
care
services
to
do
county
business
and
because
it
is
their
local
town.

This
is
not
north
augusta.
This
is
the
county
seat
and,
as
such,
I've
always
believed.
The
city
of
aitkin
has
a
special
obligation
to
county
residents
and,
as
such,
I
want
to
talk
about
the
courthouse
and
what
should
be
done
to
make
sure
that
it
stays
downtown,
because
presently,
the
city
of
aiken
is
pursuing
the
repurposing
of
its
historic,
recently
vacated
municipal
building
at
park
avenue
into
a
city-owned
conference
center.

If
the
city
of
aitkin
stays
true
to
its
plans
again,
county
taxpayers
will
be
saddled
with
tens
of
millions
of
dollars
in
additional
costs
to
alleviate
the
serious
overcrowding
of
the
aitkin
county.
Courthouse,
downtown
aiken
could
lose
more
than
110
jobs
and
another
historic
structure
will
sit
vacant.

Some
people
think
that
historical
preservation
is
for
little
gray-haired
old,
ladies
who
are
living
in
the
past
no
offense
to
any
gray-haired.
Ladies
here
it
isn't.
Historical
preservation
is
vital
to
the
future.
It
is
all
about
the
future.
It
not
only
retains
the
charm
of
aiken,
but
it
attracts
tourists.
It
attracts
industry,
it
attracts
new
residents,
so
our
organization,
because
we
want
to
just
dispel
this
myth
of
the
little
gray
horror
old.

the
past,
we
have
organized
a
workshop
on
september
28th,
where
we're
having
people
national
experts
on
historic
preservation
come
in
and
talk
about
why
preservation
is
so
important
how
it's
doable
and
cost
effective
and
vital
to
communities
like
aitkin
we've
made
it
free
and
open
to
the
public.
I
have
people
signing
up
now
and
I
would
really
like
to
invite
you,
mayor,
osman
and
all
of
the
council
members
to
come.

possibly

recently
purchased
a
house
in
historic
downtown.
Much
like
linda
was
talking
about
before,
and
one
of
the
issues
I
have
is
the
design
review
board.
I
can't
necessarily
fix
my
roof
or
my
chimney
without
going
through
them
to
make
sure
it
fits
the
character
of
the
street
that
doesn't
feel
like
what's
going
on
with
the
downtown
revitalization
project,
I
just
feel
like
it
should
apply
to
everybody,
and
I
would
really
appreciate
to
see
that
other
issues
are
the
water.

don't
know
if
anyone
else
has
got
on
the
city
water,
but
they
send
out
a
notice
in
the
paper
and
then
all
of
your
whites
turn.
You
know
rust
colored.
So
I'd
really
like
to
see
some
better
method
of
notifying
people.
Maybe
text
messages
we
we
pay
to
live
in
the
city
because
it's
a
nice
beautiful
place
and
I
really
appreciate
the
work
you
guys
do
to
keep
it
that
way,
but
it'd
be
really
nice
to
have
some
like
better
infrastructure
out
here.

well,
I
just
wanted
to
mention
a
couple
of
things:
I've
been
flying
out
of
aitkin
for
over
50
years.
Yes,
sir,
and
I've
owned
a
flight
school
and
a
charter
company
and
everything
I'm
retired
now.
But
what
I
wanted
to
mention,
knowing
the
history
of
the
airport
been
around
since
1970
aitkin
airport
has
an
excellent
opportunity
to
expand
and
grow.

There
are
several
reasons.
One
daniel
field
is
probably
on
very
borrowed
time,
because
that
real
estate
is
very
valuable
and
developers
have
been
wanting
it
for
years.
I'm
not
sure
how
long
daniel
will
feel
will
be
in
business.
Bushfield
is
very
poorly
located
in
a
swamp
and
it's
closed
many
times
because
of
the
weather.

Aiken
is
an
excellent
reliever
between
colombia
and
in
augusta,
and
I
think
there'll
be
a
lot
of
expansion
in
the
next
few
years.
The
opportunity
is
there
also
the
new
fbo
just
arrived
at
the
trenton
airport,
knowing
the
situation
in
augusta,
the
there's
big
plans
to
develop
trenton,
which
would
take
a
lot
of
business
away
from
aiken.

just
keep
that
in
mind
and
then
another
thing
I'd
really
like
to
see
is
better
maintenance
of
city
grounds.
Some
of
the
areas
downtown
are
beautifully
maintained,
but
especially
on
hayne
avenue,
there
is
just
grossly
ill-managed
property.
That's
the
city
owned!
You
know
the
homeowners
try
to
maintain
what
we
can,
but
some
people
don't
have
the
ability
to
do
so.

live
at
1198
carriage
drive
and
I
with
my
colleagues
here
who
I
convinced
to
come,
move
taken
and
live
here
with
me.
The
three
of
us
work
all
remote
digital
tech
and
we
settle
the
naked
because
we,
like
the
environments,
we
like
the
city,
we
like
the
low
cost
of
living
in
the
southeast,
and
we
think
it's
a
nice
environment
to
grow
and
live.

In
and
we
really
like
downtown
eagan
as
a
place
to
go
out,
eat,
drink,
reverie
and
whatnot
and
as
part
of
my
job,
I
travel
to
pretty
much
every
city
in
america
to
huge
conference
centers
and
cyber
security
and
tech
baltimore
dc
las
vegas,
and
I
spent
a
lot
of
time
in
conference
centers
that
are
massive
and
small.
In
these
massive
cities
and
the
the
thought
process
of
building
a
conference
center
in
aitkin
brings
a
couple
things
to
mind
about,
like
lack
of
infrastructure,
to
support
that
for
people
traveling
in
whether
it's
in
airports.

Like
last
time,
I
was
at
augusta
airport,
there's
not
that
many
rental
cars
for
folks,
traveling
in
or
from
colombia
and
certainly
aiken
airport,
doesn't
support
commercial
flights.
So
I
don't
really
know
who
would
travel
in
here
and
then
I
think
about
the
biggest
employers
in
the
area,
the
prime
contractors
out
of
savannah
river,
the
the
nearby
nuclear
facilities,
and
then
you
know
maybe
what
we'd
be
competing
with
for
conference
space
like
augusta
or
columbia.

So
I
just
was
out
at
denver
in
a
conference
and
that
conference
space
would
be
smaller
than
the
proposed
space.
Here
in
aitkin,
and
it
feels
weird
that
a
city,
the
size
of
denver
can't
support
a
conference,
space
that'd
be
larger
than
the
one
we'd
be
building,
so
just
seems
weird
in
my
head,
but
figured
I'd
get
up
and
say
hi
so
anyway.

About
the
recreation
center,
I
understand
that
things
changed
as
of
april
of
this
year
we
had
some
new
policies
or
rules
that
was
implemented,
that
I
really
disagree
with,
especially
when
it
comes
to
a
family
of
four
have
to
pay
four
hundred
dollars.
We
are
seeing
that
we
are
running
a
country
club
instead
of
recreation
center,
always
remember
it's
a
recreational
center.
I
disagree
with
a
child
having
to
pay
two
dollars
to
go
in
to
pick
to
have
a
pickup
game,
so
we
need
to
look
at
that
again.
We
are
not.

are

a
country
club
we're
a
recreation
center.
We
should
look
at
the
income
on
both
sides.
The
north
side
income
is
completely
different
from
the
south
side
income.
So
take
that
in
consideration
how
this
is
affecting
the
city
of
akin
taking
two
dollars
from
a
child,
I
think,
is
ridiculous
and
then,
especially
when
you're
letting
fraternities
and
sororities
come
in
for
free,
they
should
pay
they're
professionals.

But
when
you
take
two
dollars
from
a
child
that
should
have
never
happened.
I
don't
know
how
that
passed,
but
I'm
ashamed
of
aiken
taking
two
or
two
dollars
from
a
child
to
going
to
play
a
game
and
there
should
be
more
interaction
in
the
in
the
recreation
center.
I
see
there's
a
big
change
right
there,
smith
hazel.
I
don't
see
that
many
kids
anymore,
going
in
for
some
reason.
One
day
I
went
in
and
the
center
was
completely
empty.

Why
is
it
empty?
We
should
get
more
type
of
things
to
bring
them
in.
I
think
maybe
electronics.
We
have
something
in
augusta.
I
mentioned
to
them
about
bringing
it
in.
You
have
to
draw
the
kids
in,
so
we
need
to
look
at
the
recreational
centers
see
what's
going
on
there,
but
something
has
changed
in
the
last
two
years
and
we
can't
just
let
the
kids
go
on
the
street,
whether
they're
gonna
play
outside
they
can't
play
outside
on
during
hot
seasons.

You
know
in
the
summer
it
was
extremely
hot
and
they
playing
outside
on
a
basketball
court
had
to
pay
two
dollars
a
goal
and
some
kids
even
came
by
my
house
asking
for
two
dollars.
That
should
have
never
happened.
So
I'm
disappointed
with
aiken
charging
kids,
two
dogs
that
come
in
to
pick
up
a
game.

just
no
reason
for
that.
If
you
belong
to
a
board
or
commission,
you
have
every
right
to
speak,
whether
it's
county
or
city,
on
an
issue
as
an
individual,
but
you
should
always
disclose
that
you
are
affiliated
with
that
commission.

know
it's
not
a
legal
requirement,
but
it's
more
of
a
protocol.

think
I've
made
comments
in
the
past
about
transparency.
That's
a
good
thing.
We
do
have
to
sit
and
listen

it.
So

everybody

up

comments

keep
it
brief,
but
I
think
it's
a
good.
It's

good
change
positively
and
I
think
in
general,
for
example,
in
connection
with
these
two
appointments,
the
city
hasn't
been
particularly
transparent.

third
appointment,

isn't
before
us
is
she
was
not
qualified,
as
I
understand
it,
to
serve
on
the
as
a
commissioner,
because
she
was
not
a
city
resident,
and
there
were
a
number
of
cases
like
this,
with
the
design
review
board
where
they
kicked.
Lucy
knowles
off
brought
somebody
else
on
who
wasn't
qualified
to
sit.
Other
people
weren't
qualified
to
sit.
We've
had
a
sloppy
process
of
choosing
representatives.

the
election
commission
and
it's
mike
loftus,
who

this
evening
mike
if
you'll
stan
mike

judy
live
out
in
woodside,
he's
got
involved

election
process

few
years
that
he's
been
here.
He
comes
from
illinois
where
he
was
involved
with
it
up
there
too.
So
he
brings
a
vast
experience
in
election
and
he'll,
be
a
great
member.
I
think,
for
the
commission.

I
very
much
be
interested
in
serving
this
position.
I
have
a
passion
for
service.
I
have
over
30
years
of
appointed
elective
offices
up
north
from
school
boards
for
11
years,
the
zoning
board
of
appeals
for
a
full
18
years
park
board.
I
ran
an
ethics
committee
because
we
need
to
put
some
things
together
there.
I
I
think
that,
in
any
kind
of
position
that
you
are
appointed
to
one
of
the
things
that
you
need
to
think
about
is
when
you're
talking
you're
teaching
when
you're
