Description
Meet Beatrice the chicken and cats Kiwi and Brooks. Visit www.amesanimalshelter.org to see all of the animals available for adoption.
A
Hello
and
thank
you
for
tuning
in
to
this
episode
of
animals
and
Ames.
My
name
is
Ron
Edwards
I'm,
the
animal
control
supervisor
here
for
the
Ames,
Animal
Shelter
and
animal
control
program
and
our
first
guest
with
us
today,
no
you're
not
saying
things.
This
is
a
chicken
just
wanted
to
kind
of
show.
The
different
kind
of
animals
won't
tell
your
story,
she's,
actually
looking
for
her
owner.
So
that's
a
little
call
out
looking
for
the
owner.
This
chicken
came
into
us
as
a
stray
was
running
loose
and
we
could
not
find
the
owners.
A
So
this
chicken,
her
name,
is
Beatrice.
We've
named
her
Beatrice.
She
is
available
now
for
adoption,
so
just
wanted
to
show
kind
of
some
of
the
different
animals
that
we
get
here
at
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter.
We
do
see
all
kinds
of
it's
not
just
dogs
and
cats
and
rabbits.
We
get
all
different
kinds
of
furry
and
feathered
friends
in
here
to
the
shelter.
So
we
are
adopting
Beatrice
out.
She
has
not
laid
any
eggs
yet
here
at
the
shelter,
but
we
we
do
believe
that
she
she
will
at
some
point
she
she
little
excited.
A
No,
we
do
not
adopt
them
out
for
consumption,
so
you
can
of
course,
have
the
eggs
that
she
produces,
but
we
do
not
adopt
her
out
as
something
to
eat.
She
is
going
to
be
a
bird
that
we
like
to
live
in
a
nice
setup.
If
you
already
have
chickens
and
know
how
to
care
for
them
properly
and
not
let
them
run
loose,
then
you
might
be
the
right
home
for
her.
A
And
our
next
guest
today
is
Kiwi.
Kiwi
is
a
neutered
male.
He
is
about
two
years
old.
He
was
surrendered
by
his
owner
because
they
were
no
longer
able
to
care
for
him.
So
he
is
this
beautiful
brown,
tabby
and
white
cat
kind
of
the
long
hair,
so
he's
gonna
need
that
daily,
brushing
and
something
that's
so
important
to
these
long-haired
kitties,
medium
and
long
haired
cats
needs
lots
of
rushing,
otherwise
their
coat
will
get
all
matted
up,
but
she
is
just
so
soft
and
such
a
sweet
kitty.
A
We're
not.
Why
sure
why?
She's
still
here,
we've
had
a
lot
of
kittens
here
at
the
shelter,
so
they
tend
to
get
adopted
before
the
adults.
But
you
know
at
just
2
years
old,
she's,
a
young
kitty,
very
sweet.
We
haven't
noticed
anything
with
her
about
her
behavior.
That
would
turn
anybody
off,
but
she's,
just
a
gorgeous
cat
and
we're
hoping
that
Kiwi
will
find
a
I
keep
saying
she
it's
a
boy.
A
We
keep
hoping
that
Kiwis
going
to
find
a
home
very
soon
again
he's
just
a
very
sweet
cat,
and
you
can
just
see
here
that
he's
just
love
went.
Give
me
kiss
he
is
just
loving
this
attention
here.
So
if
you
were
interested
in
a
long-haired
cat
you've
had
that
experience
before
I'd
like
to
get
to
know
one
again,
Kiwi
is
just
a
beautiful
cat.
He
does
have
all
of
his
claws,
so
we
want
to
make
sure
that
he
stays
that
way.
A
That's
part
of
our
adoption
policies
here
at
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter,
and
to
help
with
that
he's
just
gonna
hang
out
there
to
help
with
that.
We
will
provide
those
free
nail
trims
for
life,
so
anytime
Kiwi
needs
those
nails
trimmed.
We
are
here
for
that
and
again
it's
a
free
service
that
we
provide
and
we'll
cut
those
nails
as
often
as
you
would
like
us
to
so
all
you
need
to
do
is
come
on
down
to
the
shelter
and
we'll
take
care
of
that
for
you.
A
So
Kiwi
is
available
for
adoption
again
two
years
old,
a
neutered
male
and
ready
to
go
so
he's
looking
for
that
forever
home
and
we'd
love
to
find
a
home
that
can
make
that
commitment
to
him
for
his
lifetime.
Adopting
a
pet
is
a
commitment
for
a
lifetime.
So
definitely
want
to
find
him
that
forever
home,
it's
just
gonna,
love
him
forever.
A
And
our
final
guest
today
is
Brooks,
so
Brooks
is
also
a
kind
of
a
brown
tabby
here
with
white.
This
one
is
a
short-haired
version,
but
also
a
very,
very
friendly
cat.
Brooks
is
about
8
years
old.
He
is
a
neutered
male
and,
of
course,
all
of
our
cats
are
currently
rabies.
Vaccinated,
microchipped
they've
had
their
feline
distemper
vaccination.
A
They
are
dewormed
they've
been
given
a
flea
treatment,
so
they've
got
the
works,
done
everything's
been
done
and
our
cat
adoptions
are
only
60
dollars.
So
that's
quite
a
deal
for
everything
that
you
get
when
you
adopt
a
kitty
from
here
from
names.
Animal
shelter,
Brooks
is
a
very
special
kitty
and
part
of
our
life
saving
animal
transfer
program.
A
Our
furry
friends
when
we
have
that
opportunity.
So
Brooks
is
one
of
those
transfer
kitties
that
came
down
to
the
shelter
and
you
can
always
see
the
ones
that
are
transferred
here
to
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter.
It's
listed
on
their
paperwork
on
their
kennel,
so
you
could
see
their
status
and
how
they
came
in
to
us
whether
they
were
surrendered
to
us
by
the
owner
like
Kiwi
was,
or
in
his
case
he
was
transferred
from
Animal
Rescue
League.
So
again,
just
amazing
animals
that
need
homes
and
we're
happy
to
help
out.
A
So
if
you
are
interested
here,
this
is
just
an
amazing
kitty,
eight
years
old,
so
we're
kind
of
saying
that
these
kitties
are
aged
to
perfection.
They're
part
of
our
senior
pet
adoption
program
here,
but
they're
aged
to
perfection
and
just
gonna,
make
a
wonderful
pet
for
somebody
and
we'd
love
to
find
that
forever
home,
where
he
can
live
out
the
rest
of
his
life.
So
if
you're
interested
here
come
on
down
to
the
ames
animal
short
that
we
love
to
introduce
you.
A
As
we
say,
goodbye
to
2019
and
welcome
in
2020
I,
just
can't
thank
enough
all
of
the
people
who've
adopted
from
us
in
2019
all
of
the
donations
that
we've
received.
It
was
in
some
ways
a
very
rough
year.
We
have
moose
the
dog
that
was
stabbed
by
its
owner,
that
exotic
animal
hoarding
case
and
a
lot
of
sad
cases
throughout
the
year
of
animals
that
have
come
in
to
us,
but
still
very
proud
of
the
work
here
that
my
team
does.
A
I
could
not
do
what
we
accomplished
here,
without
just
caring
and
compassion
a
group
of
staff
and
volunteers,
so
very,
very
thankful
for
them,
as
we
start
the
new
year
and
look
forward
to
the
things
that
we
can
accomplish
in
2020.
We're
going
to
be
putting
together
post
on
our
Facebook
page
to
kind
of
talk
about
some
of
the
numbers
and
the
animals
lives
that
we've
saved
and
you've
helped
us
save
in
2019.
So
keep
an
eye
on
our
Facebook
page
for
that
update.
