To
give
you
your
City
Council
meeting
highlights
on
Monday
May
8th
the
City
Council
Health
Committee
meetings.
The
meeting
opened
with
the
committee
of
the
whole
discussing
gas
aggregation,
Eddie
Smith
executive
director
of
the
southeast
Ohio
public
energy,
Council,
provided
information
to
the
council
about
so
pack,
and
it's
working
partnership
with
the
Northeast
Ohio
public
energy
Council.
Through
this,
the
city
of
Athens
will
join
one
of
15
members
of
no
PEC.
A
Next
on
the
agenda
was
the
Planning
and
Development
Committee
Mary
Nally
executive
director
of
the
Community
Food
initiatives
informed
council
about
their
successes
of
their
community
events
held
this
past
year
in
requested
funding
from
the
Council
Nally
also
informed
council
about
the
southeast
Ohio
food
link.
Seo
food
link
is
an
online
resource
that
will
map
out
healthy
food
resources
and
will
empower
local
communities
to
measure
and
plan
for
their
food
futures.
A
Moving
on
to
Finance
in
personnel
committee,
the
city
will
soon
be
approving
a
three-year
contract
with
the
firefighters
in
Athens,
lieutenant
needed
appropriations
were
discussed,
and
the
auditor
has
requested
staffing
changes
in
seasonal
cemetery,
maintenance
and
lands
and
buildings.
The
administration
will
review
the
staffing
change
levels
and
decide
whether
the
requested
changes
are
needed.
The
Transportation
Committee
was
next
on
the
agenda.
Council
discussed
the
construction
on
East,
State,
Street
and
u.s.
33
interchange.
The
proposed
funding
is
roughly
six
million
dollars.
A
There
continues
to
be
a
concern
by
residents
regarding
safety
in
the
addition
of
bike
lanes
on
East
State
Street.
You
can

this
project
and
others
on

Also,
legislation
will
be
moving
forward
to
construct
the
West
Union
sidewalk
extension
from
blick
Avenue
to
the
bikeway
on
Union.
This
project
will
be
largely
funded
by
a
Community
Development
Block
Grants
last
on
the
agenda
was
the
city
and
safety
services
committee.
The
city
will
be
seeking
a
water
supply.
A
Revolving
loan
account
agreement
with
the
Ohio
EPA
in
the
Ohio
Water
Development
Authority,
to
assist
with
improvements
to
the
city's
water
treatment
plan.
Council
also
discussed
the
purchases
of
generators
for
the
city
buildings
and,
finally,
the
administration
would
like
to
approve
to
lease
city,
land
and
cannon,
though
that
is
no
longer
useful
for
spreading
sludge.
