Description
What’s buzzin’ in Bloomington? Another art installation is popping up in the South Loop. Kids had a chance to learn about safety services at Civic Plaza. Plus, National Night Out is coming up!
A
B
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today,
I'm
Laurie
Schulte
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
week
of
july
twenty
second
through
the
28th,
our
is
gradually
making
its
way
to
the
south
loop.
It's
part
of
the
creative
placemaking
initiative,
which
is
meant
to
make
the
neighborhood,
walkable
and
interesting
one
project
underway.
Now
is
a
mural
project
on
the
site
of
Cypress
Semiconductor.
B
As
you
enter
the
Minnesota
Wildlife
Refuge,
it's
called
the
confluence
of
science
and
nature,
and
the
artist
is
Eric
Paulsen
the
same
person
who
created
the
mural
at
City,
Hall
Paulsen,
says
the
mural
will
represent
the
relationship
between
cypress
and
the
refuge.
Nature
will
be
shown
on
one
side
with
science
and
technology
shown
on
the
other.
It's
hard
to
see
right
now,
because
people
are
helping
paint
the
dark
base
layer
during
a
painting
party
earlier
this
month,
once
that's
finished,
Paulsen
will
layer
on
bright
colors
and
he
hopes
it
will
catch
people's
attention
for.
C
Me
I
always
love
when
I'm
walking
around
I
love
seeing
public
art
it
makes
me
want
to
go
back.
It's
a
good
photo.
Op
I
mean
that's
huge
now
with
social
media,
people
are
always
taking
photos
next
to
things,
and
then
that
encourages
other
people
to
go
visit
that
location
and
see
for
themselves.
What
that
looks
like
and
then
hopefully
explore
the
other
areas
around
it.
B
Paulson
says
the
mural
should
be
finished
by
the
end
of
the
month.
The
south
loop
isn't
the
only
place,
you'll
find
art
work
outside
the
development
at
Penn
and
American
will
get
a
creative
touch
as
well.
The
fresh
thyme
farmers
market
there
will
have
art
installed
on
two
of
its
walls.
These
are
pictures
of
the
circular
stainless
steel
sculptures
that
will
be
mounted
the
imagery
is
drawn
from
leaves
blossoms
and
fruit.
That
will
be
very
evident
in
some
of
the
sculptures,
but
other
pieces
will
be
more
abstract.
B
The
circular
form
of
the
sculptures
was
inspired
by
the
radial
symmetry
found
in
fruits,
snowflakes
or
crochet
doilies.
The
artwork
is
meant
to
offset
the
linear
architecture
of
the
building.
There
will
be
LED
lights,
backlighting
the
pieces.
The
artwork
will
be
installed
later.
This
summer,
kids
had
a
chance
to
learn
about
emergency
services
with
safety
boot
camp
at
City
Hall.
The
event
was
full
of
fun
activities
for
kids.
They
were
able
to
check
out
the
police
department's
mobile
command,
post
ambulance,
equipment
and
city
water
trucks.
B
The
water
hose
was
a
big
highlight,
but
there
were
many
things
for
people
to
do
park.
Maintenance
staff
talked
about
Sun
safety.
The
firefighters
stressed
the
importance
of
having
a
fire
safety
plan
and
police
showed
off
their
equipment
and
talked
about
general
gun
safety.
While
more
than
100
campers
attended
the
safety
boot
camp,
it
was
open
to
the
public
about
30
people
outside
of
summer.
B
Programming
dropped
by
this
event
was
put
on
with
help
from
the
police
and
fire
departments,
environmental,
health,
Public,
Health
parks,
maintenance
and
parks
and
recreation
mark
your
calendars,
the
32nd
annual
national
night
out
is
coming
up.
It
will
take
place
on
August.
Fourth,
neighborhood
watch,
block,
captain's
or
other
interested
residents
help
organize
parties
throughout
town.
This
is
video
from
a
block
party.
Last
year
throughout
the
evening
police,
firefighters
and
paramedics
visit,
many
of
the
outings
typically
Bloomington
has
about
350
block
parties
to
celebrate
national
night
out.
B
D
B
Aren't
the
only
things
that
come
out
of
the
event?
Beep
collects
11,000
pounds
of
food
through
drop-off
bins
at
organize
parties.
So
if
you're
planning
on
participating,
don't
forget
to
bring
a
non-perishable
food
item
again,
the
2015
National
Night
Out
is
Tuesday
August.
Fourth,
if
you
want
to
find
a
party
in
your
neighborhood
just
give
officer
heidi
miller
a
call
you
can
reach
her
at
9525,
6349
75
or
you
can
email
her
at
h,
miller
at
Bloomington
MN
gov.
That
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
july,
twenty
second
through
the
28th.
