Description
This episode of Focus on Health we learn around cervical cancer and what you can do to get help.
A
Welcome
back
to
another
program,
I
focus
on
health.
Let
me
just
tell
you
something:
I
got
a
friend
of
mine
sitting
to
my
right.
You
want
to
see
her
at
the
end
of
the
commercial,
but
here's
the
teaser.
Now
she
has
done
so
much
in
this
community.
Someone
to
eliminate
fear
the
big
fear
that
everybody
has
now.
That
should
be
enough
of
a
clue
for
y'all
I.
Think
y'all
will
get
it
this
time
and
we're
going
to
see
you
at
the
other
end
of
this
commercial,
hello.
B
C
A
A
D
Good
morning,
I'm
Cheryl
Johnson
with
the
west
central
Georgia,
Cancer
Coalition,
and
we're
located
at
6:33
19th
Street
Suite
B,
which
is
directly
across
the
street
from
the
old
doctor's
hospital.
Our
mission
at
the
Western
Church
of
Cancer
Coalition
is
to
reduce
the
burden
of
cancer
in
the
communities
that
we
serve.
D
We
serve
a
13
County
region,
which
also
includes
two
counties
in
Alabama
and
at
some
point,
we'll
be
putting
up
a
slide
sharing
all
of
the
locations,
all
of
the
counties
that
we
serve,
but
it's
about
education,
outreach,
advocacy
and
making
sure
that
we
can
get
you
to
the
necessary
resources
that
are
needed
for
cancer
or
various
cancers.
We
also
have
our
neighbors
helping
neighbors
program
and
hopefully
we'll
get
a
chance
to
come
back
and
talk
about
that
at
a
later.
A
Show
you
do
such
a
marvelous
job,
as
I
mentioned
to
you
early
this
morning.
Every
time
you
have
a
specific
cancer
month,
please
let
me
know
in
advance
so
that
you
can
come
one,
because,
let
me
tell
you
something:
Cheryl
has
done
some
slides
that
are
off
the
chain
and
you
want
to
reduce
the
the
fear.
Yes,
because
a
lot
of
people
well,
can
their
body
do
God
make
their
body
such
as
giving
them
signals,
but
they're
afraid
to
go
to
the
doctors
they
get.
A
The
news
there's
no
need
for
that
anymore
because
of
the
research
and
individuals
like
Cheryl,
on
the
forefront
the
D
stigma
and
taking
the
fear
out
of
cancer,
and
so
the
first
slide
that
we're
going
to
look
at
it
says
our
mission
and
it
says
to
reduce,
as
Cheryl
said,
diverted
or
cancer
in
the
communities
we
serve.
We
are
neighbors
helping,
neighbors
and
I
want
to
give
you
the
number
of
counties,
and
this
is
all
so
that's
why
she
says.
D
A
E
A
A
D
F
D
D
D
January
23rd
next
Thursday
and
it
will
be
at
the
Frank
Chester
I,
want
to
say
it
starts
around
5:30
or
6:00
o'clock,
but
we're
just
encouraging
them
to
give
us
a
call
right
at
that
number:
706
6600
three-one-seven,
if
they'd
like
to
get
themselves
and
their
daughter
registered.
For
this
event,
it
is
free.
We
have
a
local
pediatrician,
that's
going
to
be
coming
and
sharing
information
with
the
mothers
and
the
ended
orders.
Okay,
let's.
A
Go
to
the
next
slide
and
it
says,
according
to
the
CDC
in
2016
the
latest
year,
from
which
incidents
that
are
available,
12,000
984
new
cases
of
cervical
cancer
were
reported
and
4,000
188.
Eight
women
died
of
cervical
cancer
in
the
United
States.
So
that's
some
awesome
statistics
and
also
it
says
cancer
is
a
second
leading
cause
of
death
in
the
United
States
exceeding
or
exceeded
only
by
heart
disease,
and
one
of
every
four
deaths
in
the
United
States
is
due
to
cancer.
D
Proactive
and
that's
what
we
do
after
West,
Central
Georgia,
Cancer
Coalition,
is
prevention,
education,
knowing
your
body
and
that's
what
we
tell
women
as
well
as
men
know.
What's
normal
well
know,
what's
abnormal
now
there
are
some
cancers
or
there
are
some
issues
that
there
aren't
any
signs
and
symptoms.
So
that's
why
it's
important
to
get
your
yearly
physicals.
D
D
And
crunching
the
numbers
is
normally
about
two
years
behind,
but
they're
in
in
2016
in
Georgia
there
were
415
new
cases
that
were
reported
with
cervical
cancer.
Several
years
ago,
when
I
first
started
with
the
cancer
coalition.
There's
a
young
lady
who
actually
passed
away
from
cervical
cancer.
She
was
in
her
teens
and
so.
G
F
D
A
D
D
D
A
F
H
A
D
A
D
D
A
A
D
A
A
A
But
you
won,
or
something
and
I
like
what
you
hear.
The
Pap
tests
also
go
to
a
pap
smear
checks
for
changes
in
the
cells
or
your
service
right
cervix
and
the
Pap
test
can
tell
if
you
have
an
infection,
because
there
just
be
an
infection
attracts
any
type
of
abnormal
on
healthy,
cervical
cells
or
cervical
cancer,
and
you
will
know
something
your
slides
just
slide
that
use
that
we're
showing
here,
it's
just
an
excellent
slide.
So
you
want
to
go
to
the
next
one
cause
as.
D
A
D
A
Want
to
something
what
I
like
about
and
I'm,
not
bragging
I
have
so
many
people
tell
me
I'm
so
glad
that
Mike
King
is
the
one
that
suggested
for
this
program,
because
you
wanted
something.
It's
all
about.
Show
education,
just
like
you,
everybody
is
at
STDs
here,
showing
the
sti's
infections
and
see
this
is
this
is
just
awesome,
it's
just
another
term
because
they
mean
what
your
name
is
or
they're
all
STDs.
Yes,.
D
Absolutely
prevention
prevention
is
key,
also,
some
other
risk
factors
for
cervical
cancer
is
starting
to
have
sex
very
early
early
in
you
know
early
on
14
13
12.
You
know,
because
you
know
we
have
to
be
honest
in
today's
society
and
even
before
you
know,
I
tell
people.
Hormones
are
the
same
in
2020
as
they
were
in
90.
A
D
D
D
D
What
HPV
can
cause
abnormal
cells
of
the
cervix
vagina
or
vulva,
cervical
cancer
and
genital
warts?
So
that's
why
I
say
what
the
male
you
know
it
could
be
and
we'll
talk
a
little
bit
about.
You
know
the
cauliflower
type
of
what
a
genital
wart
looks
like
okay,
now
HPV
can
affect
in
the
genital
area.
As
I
said,
high
risk
types
such
as
HPV
type,
16
and
18
can
cause
cervical
cancer
or
abnormal
cells
in
the
lining
of
the
cervix
that
sometimes
turns
into
cancer
and.
A
D
A
A
F
F
D
A
F
D
So
some
possible
signs
and
symptoms
are
vaginal
bleeding
for
women
and
pelvic
pain
and,
of
course
those
other
symptoms
are
for
men.
There
may
be
some
genital
warts
around
the
you
know,
area
of
the
mill
area
as
well,
but
as
I
was
saying,
pap
smears
can
be
obtained
at
a
private
health
care
provider,
the
local
health
department
and
the
west
central
Georgia,
Cancer
Coalition.
We
don't
do
them
there,
but
we
can
get
you
connected
right,
so
who's
different.
A
D
A
D
The
HPV
vaccine,
it
protects
against
the
types
of
HPV
that
most
often
cause
cervical,
vaginal
or
vulvar.
Can't
okay,
it's
recommended
for
preteens
11
to
12
years
old,
but
it
can
start
at
9
years
old
and
I
know.
There's
been
some
controversy
about
these
vaccines,
but
most
times
you
know
it
is
not
most
times
it's
always.
You
know
the
decision
of
the
parent.
A
F
G
D
A
D
And
more
people
have
already
been
exposed.
You
know
to
that.
So
you
know
it
just
kind
of
depends
on
whether
you
feel
like
the
benefit.
Now,
if
the
vaccination
is
started
before
age,
15,
there's
a
two
dose
schedule
with
given
between
what
the
doses
given
six
to
twelve
months
apart
and
therefore
people
who
start
the
series
after
their
15th
birthday,
it's
given
in
a
three
series.
This.
F
D
This
you
know
going
through
life
and,
as
you
get
older,
you
know
having
a
relationship
with
your
primary
care
doctor
or
healthcare
provider.
Your
nurse
practitioner,
whoever
is
providing
health.
We
learn
to
you
will,
along
with
the
pediatrician,
you
know,
cuz
they're,
the
ones
that
give
the
vaccines
for
the
children
and
parents.
We
just
encourage
them
to
have
a
relationship
with
them.
Have
those
serious
conversation
have
those
serious
and.
F
A
D
Though
other
steps
to
help
prevent,
as
we
said,
is
not
smoking
using
condoms
during
sex
and
then
limiting
the
number
of
sexual
partners,
you
know
the
HPV
infection.
Now
it
does
not
all
from
getting
cervical
cancer
because
they're
certain
genital
areas
that
are
you
know
it
can
be.
No
that's
that's
kind
of
with
the
young
folks.
You
know
that's
what
we're
trying.
F
D
A
D
Them
there
is,
we
do
we
are
blessed
to
have
a
guy,
no
logical
oncologist
in
town,
and
so
they
would
be
working
with
that
specific
guy.
Neurological
oncologist
and
this
doctor
has
been
trained
to
treat
cancers
of
a
woman's
reproductive
system,
which
is
awesome,
which
is
awesome
and
they'll
work
to
create
a
treatment
plan.
And
then
it
just
kind
of
depends
on
you
know
the
staging
and
whatever
what
the
treatment.
F
D
A
D
A
D
A
D
A
Anyone
on
something
and
that's
what
the
benefit
of
your
organization,
because
the
average
person
when,
when
they're
hit
with
something
like
this,
they
don't
know
they
don't
and
now
I.
It's
always
always
good.
Now
sure
before
we
take
this
next
break,
would
you
look
into
that
camera
again
and
give
them
all
the
information?
Because
if
anyone
has
a
question,
they
have
a
ready
resource
with
you
and
your
organization.
