From YouTube: India Flag Raising Ceremony 2022
Description
The 76th India Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony, marking 75 years of India's Independence, is presented by the Cupertino-Bhubaneswar Sister City Initiative and the City of Cupertino. The event was recorded August 15, 2022 at the Cupertino Civic Center Plaza.
A
Good
afternoon
folks,
please
be
seated
we're
going
to
get
started.
It's
a
pretty
hot
day.
Please
stay
in
the
shades.
There's
some
water
there's
some
cookies,
make
yourself
comfortable
all
right.
Thank
you.
Thank
you,
namaste
and
good
afternoon
on
behalf
of
the
city
of
cupertino
and
cupertino
bhubaneshwar
sister
city,
it's
my
honor
and
privilege,
along
with
rina
and
other
board
members
like
mahesh,
nihalani
and
wendell,
to
welcome
mayor
darcy,
paul
vice
mayor
liang,
chao,
council,
member,
hang
wai,
john
valley.
Sorry,
I
was
too
fast
kitty
moore
they're
all
here.
A
Thank
you
so
much
for
coming
in
the
hot
day,
and
we
also
have
with
us
from
the
mr
okana's
office,
tom
pike
as
well,
and
I'm
not
sure
I
don't
know
any
other
elected
officials
who
are
there.
Maybe
they
can
just
raise
their
hands
and
I
can,
and
maybe
trudy
dude
is
here
too
and
ex-mayor.
I
see
gilbert
and
then
we've
got
oh
steven
steven
there
as
well.
Thank
you
all
right.
So
again,
today
is
a
very
special
day.
A
It's
the
76th
india's
independence
day
or
what
we
call
75
years
of
independence,
and
it
is
a
really
a
great
privilege
to
be
born
and
brought
up
in
a
democratic
country
and
today
and
this
year
for
the
first
time
we
have
got
the
president
of
india
from
the
state
where
this
sister
city
belongs.
That's
orisa.
Her
name
is
srimati
dhrupadhi
murmur
and
she
belongs
to
the
tribals
that
it
is
the
lowest.
The
tribals
are
pretty
not
that
well
to
do
like
the
tribals
anywhere.
A
A
It's
a
bridge
to
establish
people-to-people
relations
between
two
cities
and
countries,
in
this
case
india,
bhubaneshwar
and
cupertino
usa,
and
to
accomplish
this
very
objective.
The
organization
has
conducted
workshops,
student
exchange
programs,
delegations
to
and
from
india,
cultural
art
exchange
programs
and
u.s
india,
symposium
and
recently
we
did
a
first
time
at
heritage
india
affair
in
the
memorial
park,
which
was
very
well
received.
A
A
Thank
you
thank,
and
we
would
like
to
thank
and
grateful
to
our
mayor
vice
mayor,
council,
members
and
city
staff
for
supporting
the
sister
city
events
without
much
you
do
what
I
want
to
do
he's
going
to
do
a
small
or
to
show
you
the
jalak,
what
we
call
a
vision
into
our
indian
culture.
So
we'll
have
an
indian
dance
started
right
now,
just
to
get
the
ball
rolling
and
without
much
to
do.
I
would
like
to
get
the
odc
dancer.
A
Oh
sorry,
let
me
introduce
you
to
my
co-founder
reena
to
do
the
introduction
of
the
culture
program.
B
Hello,
hello,
yeah,
my
name
is
reena
rao
and
I'm
the
co-founder
of
the
cupertino
move.
Nature
sisters
tea.
Our
first
performance
is
a
odc
dance,
so
cupertino
bhuvanesh
bhuvaneshwar
is
in
the
state
of
orissa.
So
this
is
our
dance
form
from
the
state
of
orissa.
The
artist
is
shrestha
nayak
choreographed
by
guru,
dr
kaveri
mishra
of
last
year
creation
and
she's,
a
disciple
of
late
guru,
kalu
and
mahapatra
and
and
sheshta.
C
C
C
A
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
Christian
ike
really
appreciate
it:
amazing,
dance
performance
and
she's
from
orissa.
This
is
our
state,
the
sister
city
thank
you
again
and
she
is
from
cupertino.
She
lives
just
down
there
road.
Thank
you
very
good
performance
all
right.
So
next
is
our
u.s
national
anthem
for
doing
the
flag
hosting.
I
would
like
to
invite
our
mayor,
darcy,
paul
and
aditi.
E
Thank
you
mahesh,
and
thank
you
aditi.
That
was
beautiful.
My
dear
friends,
please
be
seated
if
you
have
a
seat
today
marks
75
years
since
the
first
celebration
of
india's
independence
took
place
on
august
15
1947..
E
Hence
this
is
the
76th
celebration
of
that
remarkable
event
for
cupertino,
we
first
celebrated
india
independence
day.
All
is
also
known
as
swades
on
august
15
2017.
This
will
be
our
sixth
celebration
of
that
event.
I
remember
celebrating
this
event.
Five
years
ago
today,
at
this
very
spot,
our
city
council
is
pleased
to
support
this
observation
of
the
inception
of
the
world's
largest
democracy.
E
E
These
discussions
are
not
always
easy,
but
we
have
them,
and
I'm
proud
of
us
for
that
today,
the
city
of
cupertino
recognizes
the
common
commitment
we
have
with
some
1.3
billion
people
from
a
nation
that,
like
us
as
a
nation,
has
had
its
moments
in
standing
up
to
systems
designed
to
amass
authority
more
for
the
few
more
for
the
privileged
more
for
the
people
who
live
in
a
particular
area
or
who
speak
or
look
a
certain
way.
We
stand
with
this
commitment
because
we
all
know
that
this
is
an
ideal
of
our
aspirations.
E
On
behalf
of
the
city
of
cupertino,
we
thank
deputy
consul
general
for
india
in
the
san
francisco
bay
area,
rajeev
nayak
and
many
others
from
around
the
entirety
of
the
bay
area
for
joining
us
here
today.
On
this
celebratory
occasion,
I'd
like
to
close
by
reflecting
on
this
interesting
tidbit
of
where
we're
at
numerically
are
we
at
75
or
are
we
at
76?
E
E
E
E
And
at
this
point,
cupertino
does
have
a
couple
of
certificates
to
present,
as
well
as
a
representative
from
congressman
roe,
connor's
office,
tom
pike.
We
have
a
certificate
of
appreciation
to
our
cupertino
bhubaneshwar
sister
cities
initiative.
I
would
like
to
ask
tom
to
be
here
and
magically
is
here
as
well
as
my
fellow
city
council
members
vice
mayor
council
members,
willie
moore
way.
Please
please
come
on
up
and
we'll
appreciate
our
cupertino
sister
cities
movement,
arshwar
initiative.
I
know
I
mixed
up
those
words
for
providing
what
they've
provided
over
the
years.
C
E
We
also
have
a
certificate
of
appreciation
to
present
to
the
deputy
consul
general.
I
believe
deputy
consul
general
nayak
is
here
all
right.
Welcome,
wow,
you're,
probably
hotter
than
the
performer.
Even
me
all
right
here
we
go.
C
A
Thank
you
so
much
mayor
and
the
city
council
members
really
appreciate
it.
So
now
we
have
the
indian
flag
hosting.
I
would
like
to
invite
adithy
sharma
out
here
and
our
deputy
council
general
mr
rajesh
nayak,
who
drove
down
from
san
francisco
just
for
this
event.
Thank
you
so
much
rajeshji
and
we'll
get
started.
A
C
C
A
Adity
sharma
she's
a
high
school
student
from
linbrook
and
she
did
an
amazing
job.
Thank
you
so
much
aditri.
Now
you
can
rest
it's
a
hot
day
for
you.
I
know
I
would
then
kind
of
invite
our
deputy
council
general
mr
rajesh
naik,
to
share
a
few
words.
F
Thank
you,
maheshji
honorable
maya,
honorable
vice
mayor,
all
the
council,
members
of
the
city
of
cupertino
mahesh,
pakalaji,
reena,
patna,
all
the
members
of
bhuvaneshwar
cuba.
You
know
sister
city
association,
it's
pleasure
to
be
here.
I
come
from
san
francisco.
I
didn't
know
that
the
weather
is
very
hot
here,
I'm
dressed
for
the
morning.
I
didn't
have
the
time
to
change
my
dress,
but
it's
a
great
privilege.
It's
a
great
honor,
it's
a
great
pleasure
to
share
the
joy
and
celebration
of
india's
76th
independence
day
with
all
of
you
here.
F
F
So
we
celebrated
the
first
independence
day
on
the
day
we
were
born,
born
as
a
free
nation
again,
so
the
first
one
was
the
beginning
of
the
first
year
and
of
course
that's
why
we
are
celebrating
at
the
end
of
the
75th
year
of
our
journey
as
a
free
nation,
we
are
celebrating
the
76th
independence
day.
That
is
the
difference.
Honorable
mayor,
dear
friends,
I
would
like
to
mention
that
you
know
when
britishers
left
us
free
in
1947.
F
We
were
the
brightest
jewel
in
the
british
crown,
but
when
they
left
us,
we
were
the
poorest
nation
on
earth,
but
then
75
years
since
then,
indians
believed
in
themselves
indians
believed
in
the
destiny
of
india.
So
today
we
have
become
one
of
the
largest
demo,
in
fact,
the
largest
democracy
in
the
world.
We
have
become
the
fifth
biggest
economy
in
the
world.
F
F
As
our
respected,
prime
minister,
honourable
president,
mentioned
it,
this
is
an
occasion
we
celebrate
the
the
story
of
india,
the
glory
of
india,
but
also
it's
an
occasion.
We
dedicate
ourselves
to
build
to
build
india
stronger
than
ever.
It
also
means,
as
you
know,
indian
americans
living
over
here.
It's
our
shared
responsibility
to
bring
india
and
america
closer
together
to
believe
in
shared
prosperity,
not
just
for
india
or
america,
as
honorable
mayor
mentioned,
it
is
for
the
peace
and
prosperity
of
all.
A
G
Thank
you
everyone.
I
know
it's
very
hot
I'll
make
it
brief.
I
just
wanted
to
say
on
behalf
of
congressman
rokhana
thank
you
for
being
here
at
and
I
will
say
the
75th
anniversary
of
india's
independence.
That's
my
version,
thank
you!
Mahesh
rina
and
the
cupertino
bubon
esswar
sister
city
initiative
in
the
city
of
cupertino.
G
For
hosting
this
event,
I
did
want
to
say
that
congressman
connor
sends
his
regrets
that
he
can't
be
here
today,
but
he
has
just
completed
an
extremely
busy
period
of
time
in
washington,
d.c
culminating
in
last
friday's
passage
of
the
inflation
reduction
act,
which
he
was
on
the
floor.
Voting
for
that's
our
country's
largest
investment
in
addressing
climate
change
issues,
so
he
sends
his
regrets,
but
I
am
very
pleased
to
be
here
today
having
been
a
22-year
resident
of
cupertino.
G
A
Thank
you
tom
and
now.
Actually
the
chief
minister
of
orissa
is
mr
naveen
patnaik.
He
is.
He
is
the
son
of
one
of
the
biggest
independence
fighters
of
indian
democracy,
indian
independence
movement.
He
has
sent
a
message
for
all
the
residents
here.
I
just
want
to
read
after
his
message,
because
he's
really
passionate
and
really
excited
about
what
the
sister
city
is
doing.
So
his
message
is,
I
extend
my
warm
greetings
to
all
our
indian
brothers
and
sisters
of
cupertino
and
sans
faces
koberi
on
the
occasion
of
the
76th
independence
day.
A
He
also
used
76th,
as
we
celebrate
the
amrit
mahatsav,
the
indian
independence
for
completing
75
glorious
years.
I
pay
my
homage
to
the
father
of
our
nation,
mahatma
gandhi
and
all
the
freedom
fighters
for
the
immense
sacrifice
to
make
us
free
citizens
of
this
great
nation.
The
history
of
the
world
is
replete
with
stories
of
war
and
violence,
where
people
struggle
to
fight
against
injustice
and
for
freedom
and
independence,
but
india
has
a
different
story
altogether.
Our
story
is
unique.
A
A
We
are
moving
ahead
on
transformation
highway,
bringing
in
rapid
changes
in
various
sectors,
from
economy
to
industries
from
agriculture
to
education,
from
tourism
to
sports.
Odisha
now
is
the
hub
of
international
sports
and
is
related
to
the
host
and
any
slated
to
host
men's
hockey
world
cup.
For
the
second
time
in
a
row,
I
thank
the
officials
of
the
city
of
cupertino
and
the
cupertino
bhubanesha
sister
city
organization
for
the
beautiful
celebration.
Let's
join
our
hands
to
work
together
to
make
this
world
a
better
place
to
live
naveen
patnaik.
Thank
you.
A
It
was
amazing.
I'm
really
touched
by
this.
So
next
now
that
we
have
done
with
the
most
of
the
formalities.
Now
we
would
like
to
have
reena
come
on
stage
and
do
the
next
part
of
the.
B
Yeah,
hello,
everyone
thank
you
for
coming
in
such
a
such
a
hot
hot
hot
day.
So
here
it
is.
The
next
performance
is
our
national
song
of
india,
vande
mataram,
and
we
have
a
guru,
akila
rao
and
her
son
vidyat
basumarti
and
guru,
sudha,
kasam,
seti
or
madhuri
kishore
and
aditya
kasam
ceti,
performing
on
vande
mahatram
and
by
the
way,
madhuri
is
also
an
arts
commissioner
in
cupertino.
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
B
B
B
Very
nice
performance,
absolutely
amazing.
This
was
a
collaboration
between
bharatnatyam
and
kuchipudi.
So
on
my
left
is
akila
rao.
She
is
she's
artist,
director
of
sri
vidya
dance
school
and
she
and
her
son
did
the
bharatnatyam
piece.
On
the
right
hand.
Side
is
madhuri,
kishore
and
she's
from
and
her
son
sorry,
her
daughter,
adia
kasam
seti
and
she
has
madhuri
school
of
kuchipudi.
B
Both
are
based
in
cupertino,
both
the
dance
schools
are
based
in
cupertino.
If
anyone
wants
to
get
in
touch
with
them,
please
do
so.
Thank
you.
So
much
now
we
go
to
the
next
performance,
which
is
from
the
west
of
india,
rajasthan
and
gujarat.
We
try
to
incorporate
east
west,
not
south,
so
east
was
orisi,
south
was
kuchipudi
and
bharatnatyam,
and
now
we
have
rajasthan
gummer.
B
So
they
are.
This
is
a
folk
dance
from
rajasthan
ghuma
dance
was
developed
by
the
people
of
bheel
tribe
and
adopted
by
many
other
rajasthani
communities,
including
the
rajputs.
This
folk
dance,
this
folk
dance
gets
its
name
from
goomna
and
basically
the
which
displays
the
spectacular
colors
of
the
flowing
ghagra,
the
long
skirt
of
the
rajasthani
women.
This
is
an
amazing
beauty,
as
the
skirts
flare
slowly,
while
the
women
dance
with
measured
steps,
they
entertain
themselves
by
singing
and
dancing
while
dancing
with
a
pot
on
the
head
or
balancing
on
it.
B
So
srividya
take
it
from
there.
We
have
three
performers
artist,
srividya
ishwar,
who
is
the
artistic
guru
and
choreographer
aparna
shah
and
rajeshwari
mahalingam.
C
C
C
C
C
C
C
B
Hello
yeah
wow,
that
was
amazing
srividya.
She
has
a
dance
school
named
expressions
and
she's
also
based,
I
think,
west
san
jose.
Yes,.
F
B
A
While
they're
setting
it
setting
up
the
stage,
this
is
an
amazing
performance.
You
should
see
there
are
really
of
fully
charged
up
guys
while
they're
setting
up.
I
would
like
to
thank
couple
of
folks
first
of
the
staff
esther
kwon.
She
has
been
amazing,
helping
us
from
the
back
with
everything
the
flyer
the
emails
you
name
it.
She
has
been
really
a
backbone
for
this
event.
Thank
you.
A
So
much
and
the
city
manager
diana
thompson
really
appreciate
our
support
as
well
and,
of
course,
we're
really
happy
to
see
a
lot
of
commissioners
here
today,
muni
madipatla
muni,
somewhere
standing
there.
Then
we
have
stephen
sharp.
I
saw
him
there
somewhere
that
side.
I
don't
know
steven
sharp
he's
a
planning.
Commissioner
too,
then
we
have
ilanga
ganga
somewhere
there,
okay
cool,
then
we
have
sashi
bagur
somewhere
close
by
there
awesome
shashi.
Then,
of
course
you
saw
sudha
perform
she's
from
the
arts
commission.
She
is
very
talented,
commissioner.
A
In
the
meantime,
I
also
like
to
thank
few
organizations
which
have
been
really
supportive
of
this
event.
First
and
foremost,
I
would
like
to
thank
the
fog
festival
of
globe.
Fia
federation
of
indian
americans,
dr
jopra,
and
she
has
sent
the
representative
here-
I
saw
vidya
somewhere
here.
She
is
from
fog
representing
the
organization.
A
Thank
you
and
there
is
a
big
mela
fog
email
happening
next
weekend
in
fremont,
that
is
the
biggest
and
the
biggest
west
coast
mail
ever
and
the
oldest.
It
is
like
40
years
or
something
so
please
come
august,
28th
21st
in
fremont,
and
these
guys
will
be
performing
there
as
well.
Then
then,
I
would
like
to
thank
bay
area
assamese,
community
bay,
bhasi,
bihar
foundation,
kashmir,
hindu
foundation
and
ai.
I
saw
also
dr
aia

here
as
well,
dr
konda.
Thank
you
really
appreciate
it.
All
your
support
and
rajiv

All

this
is
amazing.
This
was
just
too
much.
You
stopped
my
heart,
but
I
better
get
caught
up
after
that.
So
thank
you.
Three
cheers
for
spartans
come
on.
Yes,
parents
awesome
and
I
would
like
to
invite
satguru
to
say
what
is
this
all
about?
Please,
okay,
I'll!
Go
there
by
the
way.
What
you
saw
is
a
folk
dance
which
we
are
trying
to
revive,
mostly
it's
all
classical
dance,
but
folk
dance.
Is
this
one
in
the
previous
one?
But
let
chad
douglas
say
more
about
it.
H
As
the
board
says,
we
are
maharashtra
mandra
bay
area
and
our
group
is
spartans,
which
is
san,
jose
state
escort
and
through
music.
We
are
trying
to
preserve
and
spread
marathi
culture
across
the
bay
area.
That's
our
goal
and
if
you
want
to
join
this
activity,
it's
free
to
all
and
every
year
june,
first
week
we
started
enjoyment.
We
have
facebook,
page
mmbs
buttons,
there's
the
google
form
enrolled
in
that
and
you
are
in.
Thank
you.
A
You
thank
you
and
before
we
go,
I
wanted
to
thank
kavita.
I
forgot
her
name
city
of
cupertino
staff
member.
She
did
an
awesome
job
too
kavitha.
Thank
you
always
as
always,
and
thank
you
guys.
It's
been
a
hot
day.
I
know,
but
I
I'm
so
appreciative
of
taking
the
efforts
and
performing
here
for
the
city
of
cupertino.
Thank
you

been
working
diligently
in
the
hot
sun.
