A
Good
afternoon
everyone
it
is
now
one
o'clock
I
would
like
to
welcome
all
of
you
to
the
2020
city
of
Cupertino,
spelling
bee.
My
name
is
mr.
G
and
I
am
the
math
Olympiads
instructor
for
the
city
and
I
will
be
your
spelling,
master
and
emcee
for
the
event
we
are
excited
to
have
our
Cupertino
youth
engage
in
educationally
enriching
activities
just
like
this,
and
we
are
proud
of
our
contestants,
who
will
be
showcasing
their
spelling
skills
for
us
now.
I
would
like
to
introduce
our
judges
in
today's
competition.
A
On
our
judging
panel,
we
have
Robin
McRae
just
waved,
so
we
can
see
you
Robin
McRae,
who
is
two
children
supervising
librarian
for
the
Cupertino
library
and
our
head
judge
for
this
event,
Emma
Siegel,
who
is
a
former
co
organizer
of
the
spelling
bee
and
an
executive
assistant
at
a
local
tech
company
and
Kelly
Tong,
who
is
a
freshman
at
Mauna,
Vista,
High,
School
and
chair
of
our
Cupertino
teen
Commission.
We
would
like
to
thank
our
judges
for
sharing
their
time
with
us
today
and
being
ardent
supporters
of
the
city
of
Cupertino.
A
We
would
also
like
to
send
a
special
thanks
to
the
following
individuals,
I'm
going
to
ask
if
you're
here
to
please
stand
and
wave,
so
you
can
be
recognized
audience.
Please
hold
your
applause
until
all
six
have
been
introduced.
First
Elizabeth
Shea
works
in
the
youth
and
teen
programs
team
and
as
a
primary
organizer
of
this
event,
she
did
all
the
hard
jobs-
and
we
wouldn't
be
here
today
without
all
of
her
support.
A
Next
ray
Delgado
and
Pete
Coghlan,
YZ
and
Robert
Kim
are
actually
recording
this
event
over
there
and
we'll
be
posting
it
online
in
February
they're,
actually
in
the
building
next
to
us,
they're,
not
actually
in
this
building
and
finally
Danny
mestizo,
who
puts
on
a
huge
number
of
programs
for
our
city
as
the
recreation
coordinator,
along
with
Elizabeth,
he
is
the
driving
force
behind
the
Cupertino
spelling
bee
audience
and
participants.
Please
show
your
appreciation
by
thanking
appreciation
by
thanking
our
organizers
enthusiastically.
A
Thank
you.
Are
there
any
City
Council
members
present
very
good
okay.
At
this
time,
I'd
like
to
go
over
three
important
audience
rules
number
one.
Please
place
your
cell
phone
on
silent
so
as
not
to
disrupt
our
spellers.
Last
year
a
cell
phone
went
off
during
the
competition.
The
emcee
last
year
was
nice
about
it.
I
won't
be
I
might
eat
your
cell
phone
if
it
goes
off
so
turn
it
on
silent.
A
Number
two
please
always
remain
quiet
and
allow
our
participants
to
focus
any
help
from
the
audience
to
our
participants
is
forbidden.
I
encourage
you
to
try
to
spell
these
words
in
your
head,
as
the
students
attempt
to
do
so
on
stage,
but
be
careful
not
to
lip
spell.
Okay,
be
careful
not
to
lips
fell,
because
a
student
might
use
that
as
a
clue
unintentionally
and
number
three.
A
We
request
that
all
participants
and
audience
members
stay
until
the
end
of
the
event,
as
we
will
have
a
closing
ceremony
where
we
will
be
giving
all
of
our
participants
a
certificate
and
a
spelling
bee
goodie
bag
and
our
winner,
the
main
prize
now
to
the
contestants
I'd
like
to
talk
to
you.
First,
thank
you
for
joining
us
today.
A
You
can
ask
for
the
definition
of
the
word
say
definition,
okay,
you
can
ask
me
to
repeat
the
word
say
repeat
the
word
and
you
can
ask
me
to
use
it
in
a
sentence.
Say
use
it
in
a
sentence.
Now
you
don't
have
to
do
those
things
but
you're
allowed
to.
If
you
want.
Okay,
when
you
are
ready
to
begin
spelling,
remember
to
say
the
word
spell
the
word
and
then
say
it
again,
so
the
judges
know
and
I
know
that
you
are
finished
now.
A
Let's
make
sure
we
understand
that
students
repeat
after
me
say
it
spell
it
say
it
one
more
time
say
it
spell.
It
say
it
go
good.
Now,
it's
time
for
the
most
important
rule
of
the
spelling
bee.
Okay,
students
listen
very
carefully
once
you
begin
to
spell
a
word:
you
may
start
over,
but
you
cannot
change
the
letters
you
have
already
said.
A
Let's
say
my
word
is
dog
I
get
super
excited,
I,
don't
even
say
the
word
first
and
I
blurt
out
dgo
can
I
change,
it
can
I
change,
it
can
I
change
it
audience.
Can
I
change
it?
No,
that's
right!
Once
you
start,
you
can't
change
it.
So
students
repeat
after
me
once
I
start
I
can't
change
it
audience
repeat
after
me
once
you
start,
you
can't
change
it.
A
Please
remember:
they're
students
to
students
last
year
knew
the
spelling
of
their
first
word,
but
they
got
too
excited
and
they
started
spelling
before
they
had
calmed
down
and
they
got
their
letters
out
of
order.
Remember
once
you
start,
you
can't
change
it.
Does
everybody
understand
that
good
when
you
were
done,
I
will
rely
on
my
judges,
who
will
tell
me
whether
the
word
was
spelled
correctly.
If
your
spelling
is
correct,
you
may
sit
down
in
your
assigned
seat.
What,
if
you
don't
spell
it
correctly?
Well
we're
going
to
do
something
new
this
year.
A
One
of
the
weird
things
about
a
spelling
bee
is
that
everyone,
except
for
one
person,
finishes
by
misspelling
a
word.
That's
just
the
way
it
works.
Think
about
that.
All
of
you
are
gonna
finish
today
by
misspelling
a
word
except
for
one
now
that
leaves
a
sour
taste
in
your
mouth
at
the
end
of
the
competition
and
I.
Don't
like
that.
So
today,
when
you
do
not
spell
a
word
correctly,
this
is
what
we'll
do.
First
I
will
give
you
the
correct
spelling
so
that
you
know
what
it
is.
A
Then
I
want
you
to
nod
your
head
so
that
you
understand
everybody
nod
your
head,
so
I
understand
okay,
good
and,
as
you
leave
the
stage
and
then
go
sit
with
your
parents
in
the
audience,
everyone
will
applaud
you
at
that
point
for
misspelling
the
word
audience.
We
will
give
each
student
a
ten
clap
when
they
leave
the
stage.
Just
like
this.
A
Very
good,
that's
exactly
ten!
Finally
students,
as
you
exit
on
the
way
out,
which
will
be
on
that
side.
You
can
get
that
sour
taste
out
of
your
mouth
by
taking
and
Kelly
will
show
you
where
it
is
by
taking
a
Red
Vine.
After
all,
this
is
a
spelling
bee.
Bees
make
honey
and
honey
is
sweet,
but
honey
is
way
too
messy.
So
we're
going
with
red
vines
so
take
one
of
those
on
the
way
out.
Alright.
A
Now,
students
at
this
point,
I
want
to
encourage
you
to
relax.
All
of
you.
Take
a
deep
breath
now
take
a
deep
breath
before
you
come
up
and
speak
into
the
microphone.
In
fact,
to
put
everyone
in
the
right
mood,
we're
all
going
to
do
something
quite
silly
before
we
start
the
students
in
my
fourth
to
sixth
grade
math
Olympiads
class
will
have
a
homework
problem
this
week
about
the
eight
children
in
the
double
family,
we're
going
to
say
all
eight
of
their
names.
A
B
C
A
Hoo
hoo
juju
Lulu
excellent
students.
When
you
spell
your
words
today
do
so
in
the
same
manner.
The
most
important
thing
I
can
tell
you
is
don't
rush.
This
is
a
spelling
bee,
not
the
spelling
race.
Think
before
you
start:
okay,
okay,
okay,
call,
nice
and
easy
contestant
number
one.
Please
come
to
the
microphone.

I

an

I'm
very
happy

far,
because
students
you've
been
keeping

moving
quickly,
just
the

audience.
You
haven't
said
anything
which
is
exactly
what
you're
supposed
to
do.
It
is
spelling

everybody.
Let's
stand
up
and
stretch
for
twenty

Now,
to
conclude
the
event
I'd

to
first
welcome
our
judges
to
the
stage
and
join
us
as
we
welcome
all
of
our
participants
on
stage
now,
listen
carefully
to
all
the
participants.
This
is
what
I
want
you
to
do.
Okay,
please
follow
my
directions,
so
we
can
do
this
quickly
and
easily
don't
come
up
just
yet,
students
don't
come
up
just
yet
I'll
tell
you
what
I
want
you
to
do?
Okay,
I!
Want
you
to
come
over
here.
A
All
students
come
over
here
and
what
we're
gonna
do
is
we're
gonna
recognize
each
of
you
one
at
a
time
with
a
certificate,
but
I
want
you
to
get
in
order
by
last
name
audience
I'm
going
to
ask
that
you.
Please
hold
your
applause
until
all
participants
receive
their
certificates
and
we
have
recognized
our
scooper
Tino
Spelling
Bee
champion.
Okay,.
A
Rey
onch
agrawal
come
on
up
shake
my
hand
and
you
shake
our
judges
hand
and
take
your
certificate
and
your
goodie
bag.
That's
good,
and
then
you
can
line
up
all
the
way
at
the
end.
Go
right
down
to
the
end,
all
the
way
to
the
end.
Actually,
can
you
leave
the
microphones
back
a
little
bit?
Emma.
That's
perfect!.
A
H
A
Hold
your
applause,
please
right
here:
okay,
we
are
now
going
to
do
our
runner-up.
That
was
student
number.
Who
was
the
person
that
came
in
second
number.
Eight.
Was
that
so
harsh,
so
harsh,
okay,
judges,
if
you
can
make
a
little
area
in
the
center
and
we
will
give
him
his
second
place
award
so
harsh.
That
is
your
second
place
award.
A
A
All
right,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
I
have
three
last
things
number
one.
If
you
play
chess,
we
have
a
free,
simultaneous
exhibition
that
will
be
taking
place.
This
Friday
at
Quinlan
Center.
If
you'd,
like
a
flyer,
see
me
in
30
seconds
number
two
for
those
interested
in
watching
the
spelling
bee
and
sharing
these
moments
with
your
families.
The
video
will
be
uploaded
to
the
city's
YouTube
channel
in
February
and
finally,
number
three
I
would
like
to
thank
all
of
you
for
attending
the
third
annual
city
of
Cupertino
spelling
bee.
