A
B
It's
7,
30,
so
I
think
we'll
get
started
on
our
June
12
2023
work
session
and
the
I
guess
I'll
turn
over
the
city
manager
to
introduce
our
guests.
A
Good
morning,
so,
thank
you
for
coming
this
morning.
We
have
two
topics
to
cover,
the
first
of
which
is
the
partnership
and
the
economic
development
activities
that
they
assist
with
I'll.
First
start
by
saying:
there's
been
some
changes
there
and
there's
a
congratulations.
It
goes
out
to
Tiffany
and
I
know
that
there
are
probably
some
other
organisms.
Excuse
me
organizational
changes
that
they'll
be
looking
at.
A
Given
it's
been
a
while,
since
they've
had
a
leadership
change,
there
is
much
more
than
just
the
economic
development
that
they
work
with,
in
fact,
I
think
you're
all
familiar
with
the
Kudos
that
are
out
there
on
a
regular
basis,
the
success
that
our
communities
have
had,
especially
in
comparison
to
other
communities.
But
it's
much
more
than
just
that.
A
We
hear
a
lot
about
how
Des
Moines
is
successful
in
activities
that
involve
both
the
government
and
the
private
and
the
non-profits,
and
so
a
lot
of
the
success
that
our
non-profits
in
this
community
have
is
because
of
the
private
relationships
they
have
and
a
part
of
that
is
with
partnership
activities
behind
the
scenes,
and
so
I
want
to
send
out
a
thank
you
to
the
partnership
for
those
efforts
as
well.
But
again,
this
morning's
focus
is
more
on
the
economic
development
aspects
and
so
I'll
start
off
with
I.
C
Thank
you
good
morning,
mayor
Pro,
tem,
mayor's
members
of
city
council,
Matt,
Anderson,
Deputy
city
manager.
With
me
today,
Mike
and
Renee,
with
the
partnership
economic
development
team,
I,
think
Mike's
gonna
morning,
Tiffany
Mike
is
going
to
run
through
a
presentation
for
you
highlighting
the
efforts
that
they
take
in
Regional
development
and
place.
Making
and
I
think
it's
important
to
highlight
the
way
our
two
teams
work
together
and
how
we
have
common
goals.
C
But
we
have
different
roles
with
the
partnership
team,
focusing
on
more
of
that
external,
proactive
relationship,
building
with
site,
selectors
and
Brokers,
sometimes
taking
years
or
Mike,
probably
even
decades,
to
grow
those
relationships,
making
sure
that
whenever
those
site,
selectors
or
Brokers
get
a
new
client,
the
Des,
Moines
and
Central
Iowa
are
continually
at
the
top
of
their
list
as
they
look
for
new
locations
to
grow
and
expand
and
how
there's
a
handoff
then,
at
that
point
where
Mike
and
his
team
will
turn
to
our
team
or
site-specific
expertise,
peace
and
incentive
expertise
with
the
partnership
staying
in
the
deals
to
to
work
relationships
with
the
state
or
any
potential
State
funding.
C
So
it
really
is
a
good
overlapping
collaborative
effort
where
we're
not
out
there
rowing
in
different
directions
and
getting
in
each
other's
way,
but
really
working
together.
Well,
so
I'll
turn
it
over
to
Mike
and
he'll
dive
in
a
little
deeper.
D
Good
morning,
mayor
Pro,
tem,
council,
members
and
city
manager
appreciate
the
opportunity
to
be
here.
My
name
is
Mike
Swayze
and
I
am
the
Executive
Vice
President
for
economic
development,
greater
Des,
Moines
partnership.
D
D
We
have
over
24
affiliate,
affiliate
chamber
members
over
6,
500,
Regional
business
members,
and
then
our
investors
we
have
now
over
400
investors,
of
which
city
of
Des
Moines,
is
an
investor
and
can't
thank
you
enough
for
for
your
support
and
and
and
ongoing
support
and
and
partnership
with
with
your
economic
development
team,
just
like
the
Matt
and
I
were
just
talking
about
what
a
great
time
to
be
in
the
city
of
Des
Moines.
D
What
a
great
time
to
be
in
our
beautiful
city,
we've
had
two
or
three
weekends
of
great
weather
and
unlimited
activities
downtown.
It's
just
fun
to
see
the
vibrancy,
and
so
it's
exciting
time
and-
and
it's
just
feel
blessed
to
be
part
of
of
the
team
here
and
here-
economic
development,
team
and
Ours-
just
real,
quick,
high
level
partnership
leadership.
As
you
all
know,
there
are
some
changes
in
the
works
and
Jay
Byers
will
be
heading
up.
Simpson
College,
starting
July,
1st
Tiffany
talczek.
Congratulations.
D
Tiffany
has
been
promoted
to
our
CEO
president
CEO
and
then
Kirk
Irwin
will
be
moving
on
at
the
end
of
June
as
well,
and
so
we've
hired
a
new
CFO
that
will
be
part
of
the
partnership.
So
actually
she
is
already
part
of
the
partnership
she
started.
Last
week.
D
Tiffany
brings
eight
years
of
experience
at
the
partnership
previously
eight
years
of
experience
at
catch,
Des
Moines,
so
she's
been
promoting
the
region
one
way
or
another
for
for
quite
a
while.
Well
over
16
years
now
other
leadership
members
Dr
Marvin
dejeer.
D
He
heads
up
our
diversity,
Equity
inclusion
efforts
and
he's
been
with
the
partnership
for
about
three
years
now,
prior
to
that
Marvin
spent,
he
was
the
director
at
the
Evelyn
K
Davis
Center
for
about
eight
years,
and
then
myself,
we
I
was
part
of
the
original
team
put
together
in
early
2000s,
so
I've
been
with
the
partnership
now
for
23
plus
years
and
now
heading
up
the
economic
development
activities
prior
to
that,
I
was
at
the
state
of
Iowa
in
their
Economic
Development
Group
for
about
seven
years
and
then
make
Schneider.
D
She
leads
our
business
resources
and
Community
Development
efforts,
and
she
was
also
part
of
the
original
team
put
together
in
late
99
and
2000.
So
she's
been
there
about
23
years
and
does
an
excellent
job
for
us.
Courtney
Shaw
she's
been
with
us
for
five
years
and
she
heads
up
our
Communications
Department.
D
So
we
essentially
have
an
in-house
marketing
and
Communications
Department
Courtney's
been
with
us
for
five
years,
and
previously
she
was
at
Simpson
College
in
strategic
America
and
then
Andrea
Woodard
heads
up
our
government
relations
and
public
policy
and
she's,
been
with
the
partnership
for
nine
years.
Have
a
reoccurring,
theme
Here.
We
have.
We
have
some
some
really
good
tenure
at
our
organization
and
then
also
some
some
great
new
staff
as
well.
D
A
little
bit
of
a
partnership,
history
timeline
here
and
I-
won't
read
them
all,
but
I'll
highlight
a
few
things,
so,
as
I
mentioned
in
1999
and
2000
is
really
where,
when
the
partnership
was
formed
and
took
and
started
to
to
take
shape.
Partnership
was
formed
by
by
taking
three
organizations
and
and
combining
the
three
organizations
which
was
a
brand
new
Regional,
Marketing,
Group
and
and
existing
100
year
old
Chamber
of
Commerce,
not
a
downtown
group,
and
over
the
next
four
to
five
years.
D
We
really
looked
to
tighten
that
up
and
bring
in
other
organizations.
So
you
can
see
we
brought
in
the
downtown
Community
Alliance,
which
includes
the
farmers
market,
operation
downtown
and
a
downtown
events
group.
So
over
the
next
five
years,
or
so,
we
we,
we
kind
of
built
the
organization
to
make
it
just
one
inclusive
Organization,
for
all
the
efforts
that
we
have
and
then
in
2007
we
we
had,
we
were
doing
a
pretty
good
job
at
working
with
existing
companies
and
recruiting
new
companies.
D
However,
we
weren't
doing
that
great
at
entrepreneurial,
so
in
07
is
when
we
really
started
to
build
our
entrepreneurial
ecosystem
and
then
in
2012,
a
few
years
later,
we
identified
the
need
to
really
generate
our
own
Angel
Investments,
a
lot
of
the
early
stage.
Money
was
flying
over
over
Iowa
and
from
coast
to
coast.
So
we
we
built
a
network
of
what
we
call
planes
angels
and
then
just
real
quick
for
the
past
10
years
or
so
in
2013.
D
Des
Moines
for
a
100-day
process
go
through
the
system,
they're
not
generally,
not
even
from
Iowa
they're
from
from
all
over
the
globe
as
well
and
build
the
relationships,
and
some
of
those
companies
have
have
remained
in
in
the
region,
and
that
was
an
effort.
Really.
It
was
a
public-private
partnership
with
the
local
Insurance.
A
lot
of
about
12
local
insurance
companies
that
helped
seed
that
effort
yeah,
the
partnership
also
secured
funding.
D
You
start
an
agritech
accelerator
that
wasn't
as
successful
so
I'm
not
going
to
point
out
just
all
the
great
things,
but
so
that
was
around
for
a
few
years
and
and
we're
looking
at
ways
to
get
that
restarted
in
the
future.
And
then,
let's
fast
forward
to
2020,
we
convened
DSM
forward
task
force
in
response
to
covid-19,
and
we
we,
we
came
up
with
some
playbooks
to
help.
D
Companies
see
best
practices,
how
to
get
get
their
employees
back
to
the
workforce,
and
then
we
also
established
the
CEO
commitment
to
racial
Equity
in
DSM
2022.
Last
year
we
completed
our
five-year
funding
campaign
where
we
increased
our
private
members
to
over
400
and
we
added
a
an
11th
County.
So
now
we
are
now
in
11
County
region
and
in
2023
we
are
initiating
a
Downtown
Vision
plan
and
a
site
Readiness
program.
D
It's
it's
a
it's
really
a
Statewide
group
of
of
early
stage,
Angel
Investors.
So
it's
a
group
of
of
wealthy
individuals
that
would
like
to
see
early
in
early
deals.
So.
D
Angel
investor
I'm
sorry
angel
investor,
early
stage,
investors
into
companies,
they
call
them
Angel,
Investors
yeah.
So
often
when
companies
get
started
first,
they
go
friends
and
family
and
then
they,
then
they
look
for
ways
to
fund
company
fund
the
company
because
they
can't
get
Bank
financing
and
that
kind
of
things.
So
then
there's
early
stage,
investors.
D
Place,
making
and
and
really
trying
to
keep
this
we
were
I
mentioned.
We
had
a
great
few
weekends
here,
making
Des
Moines
a
a
great
place
to
live
and
recreate
this
weekend.
I
met
three
people
during
different
events
that
were
from
other
areas.
One
was
from
San
Diego,
one
from
Hawaii
and
one
from
Philadelphia
and
I
couldn't
say
enough.
Great
things
about
Des,
Moines,
Iowa
I,
just
I
was
just
really
awesome
to
just
randomly
meet
some
people
that
were
saying
how
great
this
place
is.
So
you
know
this
is
what
we
do.
D
We
help
push
some
of
these
projects
forward,
we're
conveners
we're
kind
of
instigators
if
you
will
and
trying
to
make
sure
the
projects
move
forward.
So
I
think
everybody
here
is
probably
aware
of.
Most
of
these
photos
the
skate
park.
D
Now
I'd
like
to
turn
the
the
to
our
economic
development
team
and
really
this
economic
development
team
is
an
extension
of
your
economic
development
team.
As
Matt
mentioned,
we
we
work
closely
together
and
in
all
of
our
efforts.
Just
real
quick
I
won't
go
as
much
detail
on
our
team,
as
I
did
on
the
leadership
team,
but
Stacy
lavon's,
our
vice
president
Economic
Development
she's,
been
with
us
for
20
years.
Marlena
banderski
was
also
part
of
the
original
team
put
together
in
99
and
she's.
D
Our
research
director,
Ryan
Carroll,
is
our
regional
business
development.
Director
he's
been
with
us
for
12
years,
then
I'm
going
to
skip
down
to
Alex
Lynch
he's
been
with
us
for
about
a
year
and
he's
our
director
of
business
recruitment.
He
spent
some
time
in
Eastern
Polk
at
Epic
and
then
also
Dallas,
County,
Melissa,
Moyer
kind
of
keeps
it
all
together.
D
She's
the
glue
and
she's
known
us
for
about
four
years
and
then
Diana
Wright
heads
up
our
entrepreneurial
ecosystem
efforts
and
then
in
the
darker
shaded
gray,
would
be
Renee
mock
who's
with
us
today
and
she's
brand
new
to
the
team
doing
an
excellent
job
and
she
heads
up
pretty
much
everything
downtown
and
then
Amy
Lego
and
Amy
crawl.
D
D
Foreign
about
the
process
and
really
I.
Think,
like
our
value,
add
to
the
city
of
Des
Moines
is
that
we
we
serve
as
your
as
your
partner
as
we
are
doing:
business
retention
and
expansion
efforts,
as
well
as
Regional
recruitment
efforts.
We
have
in
our
business
retention
and
expansion
efforts.
D
We
are
I'm
going
to
say
bre
because
I'm
having
a
hard
time
saying
that
today
we
have,
we
have
at
least
150
bre
calls
where
we
go
out
to
companies
throughout
the
area,
and
we
have
a
survey,
a
list
of
questions,
that
we
accumulate
the
information
and
helps
mold.
You
know
our
efforts
moving
forward,
identifies
opportunities,
threats,
growth
potential
and
then
we
all
in
addition
to
that,
we
have
an
additional
150
meetings
with
companies,
so
we
have
at
least
300
meetings
with
existing
businesses
throughout
the
year.
D
We
have
we
house
the
software
to
input
all
of
the
information
for
the
region,
so
we
can
come
up
with
an
annual
report
as
it
relates
to
our
existing
industry.
We
we
schedule
the
calls
in
Des
Moines
case.
We
generally
schedule
all
the
calls
and
then
invite
one
of
your
staff
members
to
come
along
with
us,
foreign.
D
So
I
mentioned
yes,
so
then
we
house
all
of
the
the
data
and
come
out
with
an
annual
report
as
I
mentioned
and
then
as
it
become
as
it
comes
to
Regional
recruitment
process.
We
are
we're
kind
of
the
front
door
to
the
region,
and
so
we
aggressively
Market,
greater
Des
Moines
to
the
country
and
around
the
world.
We
identify
prospects.
We
get
the
information,
we
gather
the
information
from
our
partners
around
the
region.
D
We
compile
a
professional
report
that
goes
to
the
Prospect
and
then,
as
Matt
mentioned,
when
we
entice
the
prospect
to
come
to
the
region
and
take
a
look
at
greater
Des
Moines
than
the
local
staff
really
gives
kind
of
the
Hard
Sell
on
whichever
City
we're
in
at
the
time.
So
some
of
our
key
industries
that
we
target,
of
course,
insurance
and
sure
tech
and
fintech
and
back
office
operations
and
the
office
is
coming
back.
Google
just
mandated
three
days
a
week
in
the
office.
D
Salesforce
is
mandating
in
the
office
starting
September,
1st
Facebook
and
the
so
we're
all
coming
back.
It's
it's
going
to
be
a
different
office
environment,
but
people
are
coming
back,
so
I'm
excited
about
that
and
then
we
also
Target
AG,
Tech,
Advanced,
manufacturing,
biosciences
and
Logistics.
Those
are
the
areas
that
were
that
we
excel
in.
D
A
little
bit
about
our
marketing
efforts,
these
two
maps
show
where
we
spend
quite
a
bit
of
our
time
and
marketing.
So
you'll
see
trips
and
trade
shows
in
the
red.
We
are
in
most
of
the
major
markets
annually
with
direct
marketing
visits.
D
We
go
to
New
York
Atlanta,
Chicago,
Dallas,
Silicon
Valley
Minneapolis
every
year
and
when
we're
in
those
cities
we'll
meet
with
companies
that
are
headquartered
and
whichever
City
we're
in
but
have
operations
in
Greater,
Des,
Moines
and,
and
you
know,
ask
for
additional
growth
and
then
we
attend
trade
shows
wherever
they
might
be.
During
the
year.
We
have
a
strong
digital
marketing
effort
as
well,
where
we
are
targeting
companies
and
Industries,
as
well
as
specific
companies
throughout
the
country,
and
you
can
see
the
map
there.
D
We
target
site
selectors
and
we
we
push
people
to
Greater,
Des,
Moines,
Economic,
Development,
page
to
start
to
the
process
of
site
selection,
and
we
we
chart
those
throughout
the
years,
and
so
that's
a
growing
effort
for
us
and
that
really
helps
to
you
know:
Elevate
the
awareness
of
Greater,
Des,
Moines
and
then
and
then
really
help
build
our
brand
out.
D
Economic
development
is
really
all
about
relationships
and,
and
Matt's
mentioned,
we've,
we've
spent
20
plus
years
really
developing
relationships
throughout
the
country
of
influential
site
selection,
Consultants
corporate
real
estate
Executives
just
trying
to
get
on
the
list.
So
if
a
company
is
looking
at
the
Midwest
we're
trying
to
be
top
of
mind,
so
we
get
on
the
short
list
so
that
they
take
a
look
and
part
of
those
efforts.
As
I
mentioned,
we
reach
out
to
site
selection
Consultants.
D
This
is
a
new
effort
that
we
started
this
year,
where
we
just
give
them
quick
hits
once
a
month
about
800
right
now
we
have
about
800
site
selection,
Consultants
on
this
email
list
and
they'll
just
get
a
quick
hit
once
a
month
with
one
of
our
faces
on
there.
That
says,
look
what's
happening
in
Des
Moines.
Try
to
keep
us
top
of
mind.
D
Now
the
numbers
really
this
is
this:
is
your
your
return
on
investment
since
1999,
just
Des,
Moines
city
of
Des
Moines,
only
projects
we've
worked
on
267.
D
and
you
can
see
the
capital
investment
in
the
billions,
which
is,
is
a
great
number
and
then
15
000
jobs.
So
if
when
it,
when
you
talk
about
Economic
Development,
it's
about
capital
investment
and
jobs
and
wealth
creation,
I
mean
that's
what
it
boils
down
to
and
then
you
can
see
the
regional
economic
impacts.
We've
had
36
000
jobs
since
1999.
a
great
number
and
then
the
regional
business
engagement.
You
can
see.
D
We
have
economic
impact
Awards,
we
have
the
annual
bre
calls
and
then
new
businesses
that
we
work
with
and
a
new
business.
They
can
be
new
to
the
region
or
it
can
be
a
new
entity.
That's
that's
starting
up,
so
our
team
has
a
goal
of
at
least
75.
New
project
leads
a
year.
30
announced
projects
that
are
happening,
a
billion
dollars
in
capital
investment
and
at
least
300
existing
industry
calls,
and
then
this
year
we
added
a
site,
Readiness
program
that
will
we
will
be
rolling
out
later
this
year.
D
This
is
a
pretty
awesome
roster
of
companies
that
have
expanded
in
in
Des
Moines
in
the
past
few
years.
This
kind
of
snapshot
of
maybe
the
last
five
to
five
to
six
years.
The
list
is
is
obviously
larger
than
this,
but
I
won't
read
them
all,
but
I'll
just
point
out
a
few
that
are
pretty
exciting.
We've
all
read
about
open
loop,
filling
vacant
office,
space,
downtown
Des
Moines
and
creating
400
jobs.
At
least
we've
had
Landis
Corporation,
also
relocated
their
headquarters
to
Gray
Station.
D
Those
were
exciting
projects
for
downtown
ESO
is
a
technology
company
that
came
here
out
of
from
Austin
Texas
and
there
in
the
Des,
Moines
Register,
building
and
they're
growing,
exciting
companies
downtown,
but
I'd
also
like
to
point
out
exciting
companies
all
around
the
region.
So
if
you
look
at
some
South
Side
companies,
Euro
fans,
loffredo,
waldinger
Corporation,
for
these
projects.
You
know
you
guys
closed
the
deal
locally
and
then
we
generally
will
will
run
the
process
for
the
state
level.
So
we
will.
D
We
have
some
expertise
in
getting
funding
from
Iowa
Economic
Development
and
then,
if
you
just
kind
of
go
around
the
sheet
here,
we've
got
some
Eastside
companies
with
Ziggler
Chemin,
Anderson
Windows
and
the
Northside
companies
with
Bridgestone
DZ.
You
know
so.
The
nice
thing
is
we're
seeing
growth
all
around
the
region
and
and
all
of
your
Awards
and
and
we're
continuing
to
push
greater
Des
Moines
as
a
place
to
to
grow
companies.
D
Speaking
of
of
balanced
growth,
this
is
pretty
exciting
slide
here,
and
this
is
not
our
slide.
This
comes
from
business
record
where
they
chart
all
of
the
commercial
building
permits.
This
is
2022..
It's
two
million
dollars
in
building
permits
in
the
region,
and
you
can
see
the
balance
growth.
It's
it's
really
exciting
to
see
all
parts
of
Greater,
Des,
Moines
growing,
it's
it
keeps
all
of
us
stronger.
D
A
little
bit
about
our
population
growth
we've
been
outpacing
our
peers,
Midwest
peers
for
over
a
decade.
Now,
if
you
look
at
our
just
Des,
Moines
MSA
has
grown
over
a
hundred
thousand
in
population
in
10
years,
and
the
regional
population,
which
is
even
the
more
important
figure,
is
our
labor
draw
and
that's
850
000.,
so
we're
getting
close
to
that
magical.
D
Million
number
often
we
get
crossed
off
of
lists
because
we
don't
have
a
million
population
of
Workforce,
so
we're
pitching
closer
to
that
and
that's
exciting
and
it's
exciting
to
see
the
continued
population
growth
and
we
really
don't
see
that
slowing
down
anytime
anytime,
soon,
just
real
quick,
a
few
more
slides
a
little
bit
about
our
downtown
efforts.
As
I
mentioned,
we
have
operation
downtown
Housing
Partnership
just
completed
our
smid
renewal
for
10
years.
Thankfully,
so
we
just
got
all
the
signatures
put
in
place
and
operation
downtown.
D
As
you
all
know
it.
It's
really.
You
know
our
efforts
to
keep
downtown
Des,
Moines,
Clean,
safe
and
beautiful,
and
any
other
special
projects
that
might
come
around
we're
keeping
downtown
a
vibrant
place
to
to
live
work
and
play.
D
We
don't
always
get
the
best
publicity
when
it
comes
to
what's
going
on
in
downtowns
and
people
populating,
downtowns
and
and
recreating
in
downtowns,
and
so
we
kicked
off
a
program
to
really
tell
the
story.
D
Tell
the
tell
the
positive
story
about
downtown
Des
Moines,
and
so
this
is
an
example
of
our
first
quarterly
report
that
we'll
be
doing
moving
forward,
highlighting
all
the
positive
things
going
on
in
in
downtown
just
a
couple
more
slides
here,
I
mentioned
the
global
insurance,
Symposium
Global
Insurance
accelerator,
real,
proud
of
of
those
efforts,
so
I
want
to
put
those
on
the
slide.
D
Tech
Hub
live
is
a
agritech,
a
conference
that
has
up
to
a
thousand
people
and
we
we
recruited
agritech
or
Tech
Hub
live
two
years
two
years
ago,
and
then
they
went
to
Indianapolis
last
year,
recruiter
and
back
they'll
be
here,
July
26th
again
this
year,
super
exciting,
get
them
back,
and
it's
not
typically
what
we
do,
but
because
of
our
relationship,
we
got
some
relationships
that
that
really
helped
the
recruit.
D
That
conference
here
now
principal
Charity
Classic
on
there,
just
as
you
know
as
a
shout
out
that
is
such
a
great
event
right
for
our
city
and
we
use
that
as
an
effort
really
two-prong
effort,
so
companies
that
have
expanded
in
the
region.
It's
kind
of
a
thank
you
to
company.
Well,
hospitality
suite!
D
It's
a
thank
you
for
expanding
in
Greater,
Des
Moines,
and
then
also
we
bring
in
guests
from
outside
of
the
area
to
show
off
greater
Des,
Moines
and
and
use
that
as
an
event
to
kind
of
the
hook
to
get
people
here
and
then
last
slide
a
little
bit
about
driving
people
to
Des
Moines
and
the
efforts
that
we
have
at
the
greater
Des
Moines
Partnership.
D
If
you
look
at
in
the
past
five
years,
we
can
look
at
our
events
that
we're
helping
hosts
or
putting
on
ourselves
about
3.7
million
people
that
attended
these
events
in
the
last
five
years,
so
really
driving
the
vibrancy
of
downtown
and
and
the
greater
Des
Moines
region.
D
With
that,
a
lot
of
information,
I'm
hoping
for
questions.
D
B
Thank
you
for
what
you're
doing
for
Des,
Moines
and
all
the
efforts
and
this
weekend
was
a
fun
example
of
where
between
rope
and
structure
and
all
the
activities
I'm
sure
everybody
was
a
little
frustrated,
but
it
showed
the
enthusiasm
and
the
work
has
been
put
in
to
make
this
a
welcoming
place
and
a
great
place
to
come.
Well.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
B
A
So
mayor,
Pro,
tem
I
believe
we've
got
everybody
here.
We
need
for
the
next
conversation,
which
is
the
law
enforcement
response
mapping.
This
is
some
new
software
that
we're
going
to
hear
about
giving
us
capacity
to
share
with
our
neighborhoods
as
they
ask
about
how
how
things
are
going
within
their
individual
areas.
F
Good
morning
Mr
manager,
mayor
Pro,
tem
members
of
the
council,
Dana
wingert,
chief
of
police.
We
have
a
presentation
today
on
crime
mapping.
This
is
a
product
that
we
had
about
a
year
and
a
half
ago
with
with
our
prior
records
management
system,
when
we
switch
products
that
was
turned
off
and
the
result
was
a
mad
scramble
between
the
police
department
and
the
I.T
Department
to
build
something
back.
So
the
community
could
have
information
at
their
fingertips.
F
A
crime
analyst
Scott,
Rupp,
GIS
administrator,
Aaron
Greiner
worked
together.
They
worked
very
hard
on
this.
I
wasn't
optimistic
that
they
would
get
it
done.
This
quick,
but
they
just
put
their
heads
down.
They
worked
hard
got
a
lot
of
input
from
both
the
I.T
Department,
the
police
department,
community
members,
we
heard
from
council
members
and
what
you're
going
to
see
today
isn't
a
replacement
for
the
product.
We
had
it's
an
enhancement,
it's
more
robust.
It
has
more
information,
it
has
more
features
for
the
community.
F
So
if
you
own
a
business,
a
residence
or
just
visit,
our
city
are
looking
to
like
the
Partnerships
that
expand
into
our
city
or
move
into
our
city.
You're,
going
to
have
all
the
information
at
your
fingertips.
So
with
that
I'm
going
to
introduce
Mr,
Scott,
Rupp,
Mr,
Aaron,
Greiner
and
they'll
show
you
the
product
and
kind
of
give
you
some
background
of
where
they
started
and
where
they
got
to,
but
they
the
reality.
Is
they
built
this
thing
from
the
ground
up
and
it's
a
pretty
impressive
work.
G
Thank
you
Chief.
As
Chief
said,
my
name
is
Scott
Rupp
the
crime
analysis
administrator
for
the
city
of
Des
Moines,
Police
Department.
He
wrapped
it
up
pretty
good
here
in
the
explanation
of
how
we
got
here
today.
Just
got
a
few
slides
that
we're
going
to
go
through
and
then
we'll
go
into
a
little
more
of
a
live
demonstration
of
the
product.
G
G
The
product
that
you're
going
to
see
today
is
part
of
a
larger
overall
Suite
of
analysis
tools
that
we
have
available
to
us
through
our
records
management
system
and,
as
the
chief
said,
I
have
to
say
a
huge
thanks
to
Aaron
Greiner
Anna
Whipple,
their
teams
over
in
the
I.T
department.
They
did
a
lot
of
kind
of
last
minute
things
and
moved
a
lot
of
priorities
around
to
be
able
to
make
some
pretty
quick,
Corrections
and
changes
as
we
went
through
this
to
keep
the
project
rolling.
G
So
thank
you
to
their
two
groups
for
working
with
us
so
well
on
that
we're
planning
to
roll
this
out
on
June
15th.
As
you
can
see
on
your
screens
there
it's
going
to
be
rolled
out
not
only
in
the
city
of
Des
Moines,
but
in
surrounding
communities
and
Polk
County
as
a
whole.
You'll
see
a
little
bit
as
we
go
through
here
part
of
this
project
with
the
records
management
system
upgrade.
It
wasn't
just
Des
Moines
that
took
part
in
that.
G
It
actually
also
includes
Polk,
County,
Sheriff's,
Office
and
all
of
the
agency
or
all
of
the
communities
that
they
serve.
As
in
the
law
enforcement
role,
I
see
it
up
there,
Allen
Bondurant,
Elkhart,
Grimes,
Mitchellville,
Polk,
City
and
runnels,
as
well
as
different
communities
around
us
in
the
suburbs,
including
Altoona
Ankeny
Johnston,
Pleasant
Hill,
and
this
is
something
that
is
going
to
be
new
as
a
whole
to
most
of
those
communities
as
well.
So
it's
not
just
Des
Moines
in
this
you're.
G
The
partnership
discussed
earlier,
there's
a
lot
of
a
lot
going
on
with
the
greater
Des
Moines
area
here,
and
we
want
to
kind
of
help
facilitate
that
as
well.
So
this
is
going
to
be
something
that
essentially
every
one
of
the
suburb
Suburban
agencies
accept.
Those
served
by
Westcom
are
going
to
be
feeding
data
into
this,
so
that
will
help
people
see
Prime
mapping
and
crime,
information
or
law
enforcement
response
information
not
only
for
the
city,
but
the
area
as
a
whole.
G
The
most
important
thing
about
this
is
main
question
would
be:
what
does
it
benefit
the
residents?
We
wanted
to
be
able
to
include
enough
information
so
that
residents
could
be
informed
without
going
so
far
as
to
potentially
breach
any
privacy
or
confidentiality
in
these
cases.
G
G
In
my
opinion,
there
is
that
it's
a
more
credible
source
of
information
than
just
the
anecdotes
you
hear
about
certain
areas
or
gossip
that
you
hear
it
actually
gives
those
perspective
home
buyers
or
runners
or
business
owners,
some
actual
useful
information,
rather
than
just
what
they
might
see
on
social
media
or
other
places.
G
The
actual
excuse
me,
the
actual
data
that
the
residents
and
users
are
going
to
be
able
to
see,
and
they
have
quite
a
few
options
that
we'll
see
in
the
the
live
demo
at
the
end.
Here
they
can
filter
information
Down
based
on
the
agency
that
did
the
response,
the
location
that
it
was
at
the
incident
type
that
it
was
based
on
the
UCR
description
of
it.
G
You'll
see
when
we
do
the
live
demonstration,
it's
a
little
bit
hard
to
explain
without
actually
seeing
it.
The
data
is
grouped
within
a
it's,
a
roughly
six
square
block
grid
for
each
data
point.
This
information
is
it's
location
based,
but
it's
been
grouped
up
in
this
in
this
area
grid
so
that
the
addresses
don't
reflect
the
actual
addresses
the
location.
G
A
lot
of
systems
of
the
previous
system
also
use
just
block
addresses,
so
it
would
just
narrow
each
data
point
down
to
the
block
that
it
occurred
at
you'll,
see
when
we
do
the
demo
and
when
you
have
a
chance
to
interact
with
it
that
it
keeps
stuff
in
a
fairly
small
grid.
But
it's
generalized
enough
as
to
avoid
any
potential
security
or
just
any
potential
issues
that
might
arise
with
the
victim
security
or
confidentiality.
G
There
are
certain
types
of
crimes
that
are
not
shown
on
the
map.
We
have
an
overview
section
built
into
the
map.
That
explains
that
a
little
bit
again,
it's
all
about
victim
confidentiality
and
safety.
G
It's
mostly
related
to
cases
like
sexual
assault.
Things
like
that,
where
or
ongoing
investigations
into
crimes
of
that
nature,
where,
even
though
we
have
that
data
zoomed
out
in
that
area
view
it
still
might
potentially
give
away
the
crime
is
being
investigated.
So
that's
the
redactions
in
that
area
are
entirely
terrific
safety
users.
One
of
the
main
Chief
had
mentioned
that
there's
some
enhancements
to
this
over
the
old
system.
One
of
the
main
ones
on
that
is
that
users
can
now
create
an
account
if
they
choose
to.
G
They
have
nearly
all
of
the
features
available
to
them.
If
they
don't
want
to
create
an
account
on
this
and
just
want
to
use
it
publicly,
but
if
they
choose
to
create
an
account,
they
can
set
up
saved
searches
and
they
can
set
up
custom
alerts
that
they'll
receive
via
email,
either
on
a
daily,
weekly
or
monthly
basis.
G
These
custom
searches
can
be
for
say,
if
you
own,
four
or
five
rental
properties
in
the
area
or
if
you
own
a
couple
business
locations
and
you
just
want
to
be
alerted
hey.
There
was
a
case
made
or
there's
a
law
enforcement
response
to
my
business
or
an
area
within
a
certain
range
of
my
business.
You
can
see
that
and
you'll
get
alerted
to
that
in
either
daily,
weekly
or
monthly,
or
if
you
want
to
just
log
into
the
map
and
pull
up
your
saved
search.
G
It
is
near
real
time
so
that
information
will
be
available
to
you.
G
Our
plan
schedule
on
this,
our
neighborhood
Based
Services
staff
they've
been
working
on
this
for
a
few
weeks
now
and
they've.
All
those
officers
are
pretty
pretty
Adept
with
it.
They've
spent
some
time
practicing
and
training
on
it,
they've
been
able
to
put
together
some
lists
of
ideas
for
for
the
development
of
it
and
kind
of
guide
toward
the
end
of
the
process
here
kind
of
guide
with
some
of
their
feedback.
So
we
appreciate
them
doing
that.
G
Des
Moines
is
going
to
be
the
first
one,
since
we
had
so
much
stake
in
this.
We
wanted
to
be
the
ones
to
roll
it
out.
First,
so
we're
just
going
to
be
after
our
presentation
today
we're
going
to
be
working
with
the
county
and
the
Suburban
agencies
on
their
rollout
plans
and
see
if
they
want
to
match
our
date
or
do
it
in
their
own
way.
G
We're
planning
on
rolling
this
out
publicly
on
June
15th,
so
that'll
give
us
a
few
days
to
take
any
feedback
that
you
all
might
have
in
any
any
additional
feedback
that
we're
still
receiving
from
our
other
other
testers
and
get
it
completely
ready
to
go.
But
the
link
will
be
hosted
on
its
own
site.
G
Mean
yep
yep
we'll
see
that
we
can
filter
the
data
down
by
neighborhood.
You
can
search
specific
addresses.
You
can
set
up
as
many
alerts
as
you
want
to.
So,
if
you
have
like
I
said
multiple
businesses
or
multiple
areas
that
you're
interested
in
you
can
set
up
saved
searches
for
each
of
those.
You
can
also
do
custom
custom,
shapes
and
boundaries,
so
you
can
draw
your
own
boundaries
around
areas
to
include
those
as
well.
G
You
are
seeing
the
map
on
your
experience
perfect.
So
this
is
the
main
page.
This
is
what
any
user
will
go
to
directly
as
soon
as
they
come
off.
The
link
it'll
take
them
straight
here
over
here.
On
the
right
hand,
side
we
have
a
overview
section.
We
have
links
directly
to
the
web
pages
of
all
the
involved
departments.
We're
also
going
to
have
a
couple
links
up
there
for
instructional
videos
just
to
give
users
a
primer
of
how
to
use
this.
G
It's
very
straightforward,
the
function
of
it.
It
works
like
like
any
modern
website.
Essentially
it's
the
the
options
over
here
to
filter.
It
are
pretty
pretty
clearly
laid
out
they're
all
in
one
spot,
so
it's
really
just
a
matter
of
working
from
top
to
bottom.
Here
you
see
the
neighborhood
chart
over
here
on
the
left
or
you're
able
to
you,
can
hover
over
and
select
any
neighborhood
that
you
might
want
to,
and
if
we
click
on
that
neighborhood,
that's
going
to
zoom
us
right
in
there.
Sometimes
the
zoom
is
off
on
your
browser.
G
H
Right
hand:
side
will
it
link
to
the
sex
offender
registry.
We.
G
Could
create
a
link
to
that?
The
the
nice
part
about
this
is
that
that
overview
section
is
entirely
customizable
by
us.
So
we
can.
We
can
add
things
to
it.
We
could
do
stuff
like
that.
I
think
we
have
a
we're
also
going
to
include,
since
the
crime
descriptions
on
here
are
based
on
the
FBI's
Uniform
Crime
reporting
definitions,
we're
going
to
include
a
link
to
that
as
well.
Make
sure
that
if
folks
have
any
questions
about
what
is
the
difference
between
a
simple
and
aggravated
assault,
well,
it'll
be
right
there
they
can
go.
G
G
If
some
of
these
some
of
these
neighborhoods
over
here
are
pretty
pretty
tight
to
try
to
select.
So
we
can
also
pop
out
this
list
and
select
as
many
or
as
few
as
we
want
and
as
you
select
them
so
highlight
on
the
map
there
shown
that
they're
selected,
so
you
can
select
all
the
neighborhoods
that
are
within
your
ward
and
all
of
your
cases
and
then,
as
we
scroll
down,
we've
got
some
options
for
the
date
ranges
folks
can
pick
either.
G
Some
some
generalized
ranges
here,
or
they
can
come
down
here
and
put
in
a
custom
date
range.
So
for
this
one
we're
just
going
to
leave
this
on
last
week,
I
put
whatever
dates
on
there.
You
want.
The
data
is
current
since
April
20th
of
last
year,
when
we
switched
the
new
record
management
system,
so
anything
back
to
that
date
will
be
current
in
this
down
here,
as
we
move
along
when
we
select
our
cases
here
here.
G
We're
given
the
list
of
the
agencies,
like
I,
said
all
the
all
the
partnering
agencies
as
well,
and
then
Polk
County,
Sheriff's,
Office
and
the
communities
that
they
serve.
They
show
up
on
here
and
if
I
select,
Des
Moines
PD,
for
example,
I
can
go
in
here
and
I
can
do
pick
any
one
of
these
items
that
I
might
show
if
I
just
want
to
see
a
specific
crime
type.
Otherwise,
I
can
go
back
here
and
just
select
Des,
Moines
PD
as
a
whole,
and
it's
going
to
show
all
of
law
enforcement
response.
G
G
Yeah
this
is
one
week.
This
is
so
as
we
scroll
in
here
as
we
zoom
in
I,
see
when
we're
zoomed
out.
These
numbers
are
pretty
pretty
big,
as
we
zoom
in
they'll
start
to
break
them
apart
and
as
we
get
more
and
more
specific
we're
going
to
eventually
get
to
the
level.
This
is
what
I
was
mentioning
before
when
I
talked
about
that
grid.
You
can't
actually
see
the
lines,
but
your
mind
can
kind
of
put
together
what
area
each
of
those
numbers
encompasses.
G
This
is
as
pretty
much
as
specific
as
it's
going
to
get.
You
can
see
here
kind
of
just
draw
some
invisible
lines
around
the
box.
Here
you
can
see
where
the
seven
probably
comes
from
and
then,
when
you
click
on
that,
it
will
pop
out
those
seven
items
that
are
within
that,
so
we
hover
over
one.
We
can
see
what
what
was
the
crime
description?
What
was
the
more
specific
incident
that
actually
occurred?
How
it
was
categorized
when
the
case
was
made,
and
then
the
date
time
and
case
number.
I
I
Yeah,
so
we
only
have
49
neighborhoods.
G
Yes,
I
believe
that
was
we
had
a
discussion
about
this
last
week.
I
believe
that
it
shows
the
54
because
of
the
overlap
includes
any
overlaps
in
its
count.
G
I
know
that
that's
that's
something
that
the
gis
office
is
looking
at,
so
double
checks,
so
we'll
make
sure
that's
clarified
before
we
go
live
with
it
on
the
15th.
Okay,
if
you
want
to
here,
say
if
we
just
want
to
come
in
on
a
specific
neighborhood,
when
you
select
that
on
the
map,
it's
going
to
filter
down,
just
the
just
the
cases
that
occurred
within
this
neighborhood.
One
thing
that
I
want
to
point
out
is:
this
is
a
perfect
example
of
it.
G
Sometimes
we
do
get
these
that
show
up
on
the
map
outside
of
that
neighborhood
boundary.
What
that
indicates
is
that
it
happened
within
the
neighborhood
boundary,
but
the
point
at
which
it
generalizes
that
address
that
box
is
outside
of
the
neighborhood.
So
even
though
you
might
see
one
kind
of
floating
outside
of
a
neighborhood,
that's
just
because
it's
where
it
generalized
the
address
to
it
did
actually
happen
within.
I
The
neighborhood,
you
actually
have
the
borders
right,
you
just
don't
have
the
names,
oh
okay.
Well,
does
it
combine
Fort
Des,
Moines
Magnolia
in
South,
Park,
okay,
we'll
make
sure
to.
G
Verify
that
before
we
go
live,
thank
you
for
the
update
on
that
over
here.
As
we
go
across
here.
Let's
jump
back
down
to
our
neighborhood
is
one.
A
G
An
example
over
here
on
the
right
hand,
pane
you
see,
there's
a
few
tabs.
One
of
them
is
the
data
tab,
and
this
is
what's
actually
going
to
be
the
list
of
all
those
cases,
so
you
can
either
hover
over
and
click
on
them
or
you
can
just
scroll
through
here
and
select,
whichever
ones
you're
interested
in
take
a
look
at
more
detail
on.
If
you
want
to
see
which
one
that
is,
you
can
hit
Center
on
the
map
and
it'll
adjust
the
map
to
it.
G
As
you,
we
have
the
neighborhood
selected
here,
but
if
we
didn't
have
a
neighborhood
specific
neighborhood
selected
as
you
zoom
in
that
list
is
going
to
change
to
reflect
what
actually
shows
on
the
map
at
that
time.
So
it's
going
to
stay
Dynamic
it's
going
to
adjust
only
to
show
you
what
is
in
your
view
at
that
time.
G
G
That's
in
here
just
broken
down
into
columns
in
a
spreadsheet,
so
they'll
have
all
the
data
for
their
neighborhood
or
you
would
potentially
be
able
to
run
it
out
for
all
the
neighborhoods
in
your
ward
on
a
regular
basis,
just
right
out
into
a
spreadsheet
that
you
can
then
use
and
used
to
generate
whatever
reports
or
information
you
might
want
to
pull
out
of
it.
So
that's
just
a
one-click
download,
again
it'll
download
anything,
that's
in
the
filter
or
in
The
View.
G
Yes,
and
we
have
a,
we
have
access
on
like
I
said
this
was
part
of
a
larger
Suite
of
analytics
tools
that
we
got
with
the
records
management
system
that
we
can
get
more
detailed
if
a
resident
asks
or
if
the
neighborhood
officer
gets
a
question
on
it,
they
can
get
much
more
detailed
information
about
each
neighborhood
and
we
can.
What
are
the
other
analytics
there's
another
version
of
the
mapping
system
that
gets
more
specific.
G
Excuse
me,
we
can
look
at
how,
like
certain
beats
around
City
different
responses,
different
numbers
and
responses
officer
responses,
things
like
that.
Those
those
tools
are
so
we're
still
working
on
getting
those
developed.
Our
priority
was
the
public
side
of
things
just
because
we
wanted
the
public
to
have
as
much
information
as
possible
while
we
still
work
on
finishing
developing
out
those
other
tools.
So
once
we
get
those
to
the
point
we'll
be
able
to
present
those
as
well.
G
First
off,
you
can
I
mentioned
that
you
can
draw
custom
map
boundaries,
so
if
you're
interested
in
several
neighborhoods
all
together-
and
you
just
want
to
or
certain
certain
area
or
certain
area
where
you
have
businesses
or
properties,
you
can
draw
a
custom
boundary
and
it's
going
to
filter
in
a
second,
it's
going
to
filter
the
data
down
in
that
custom
boundary.
So
you
not
only
have
the
pre-made
ones
for
the
neighborhoods.
G
E
Thank
you
so
beyond
the
public
facing
part
of
this,
could
you
use
this
to
figure
out
like
if
there
were
break-ins
home
break-ins
that
you
could
see
Trends
or
or
pick
up
information?
G
Yes,
this
would
be.
The
mapping
is
a
very,
very
powerful
tool
that
we
we
rely
on
four
things,
exactly
like
that,
if
there's
certain
Trends
or
say,
if
there's
certain
certain
areas
that
are
consistently
getting
hit
with
catalytic
converter,
thefts
or
certain
areas
where
we're
seeing
frequent
shots
fired
trips
or
cases
made
for
for
Firearms
violations
there,
we
can
kind
of
see
that
area
and
identify
which
which
areas
we
might
need
to
add
an
extra
Patrol
at
a
certain
time
or
just
responses
like
that
to
be
able
to
cover
better.
A
G
So
this
does
not
include
things
like
traffic
tickets,
traffic
accidents
unless
a
case
is
specifically
drawn
by
the
officer
for
it.
We
we
were
looking
at
that
and
if
we,
if
you
look
at
cases
versus
actual
calls
for
service
cases,
I
think
we
average
around
40
000
a
year
and
calls
for
service
we're
near
300
000.
So
if
you
start
start
plotting
that
stuff
out,
it
gets,
gets
pretty
hectic
in
an
environment
like
this.
So
this
is
limited
to
just
incidents
in
which
case
was
drawn.
G
Yeah
put
together
some
nice
videos
with
some
some
narration
and
background
music
that
you're
more
than
welcome,
but
if
you
have
any
questions
feel
free
to
reach
out,
we
can
we
can
help
walk
through
any
questions.
You
might
have
well.
G
I
And
then
maybe
do
you
know
a
lot
of
their
social
media
that
comes
out.
Maybe
we
can
do
some
type
of
training
or
something
so
folks
will
see
it
and
and
know
how
to
use
it,
including
ourselves.
Some
of
the
neighborhood
leaders
maybe
send
them
out
the
information
in
an
email,
so
they
can
shoot
it
out
to
some
of
their
members
would
be
helpful.
Also,
nice
work.
Thank
you
yeah.
Thank
you.
Thank.
B
G
B
I
guess
that's
all
today!
So
thank
you
for
everyone
for
the
information
and
for
coming
today
and
our
we
will
reconvene
our
regular
meeting
at
4
45,
where
we
have
a
set
of
proclamations,
and
we
will
see
you
later
today,
if
you
so
choose
to
join
us.
