The
garden
program
is
des
moines
Community
Action
agencies
featured
program
this
month
in
2012,
over
500
households
were
served
for
the
garden
project
and
we
are
so
excited
to
continue
the
program
this
year.
The
garden
project
is
a
unique
program
that
helps
encourage
families
to
grow
their
own
garden,
providing
healthy
food
options
as
well
as
a
great
family
activity.
City
of
Des
Moines
eligible
households
can
receive
a
$25
gift
certificate
from
a
local
garden
center
to
purchase
their
own
vegetable
or
fruit
plants
or
seeds
to
grow
in
their
own
personal
garden.

The
garden
program
begins
April
first
and
ends
early
summer
or
when
all
the
certificates
have
been
given
out.
A
limited
number
of
certificates
are
available
in
families
are
served
on
a
first-come,
first-served
basis.
So
if
you're
interested
in
participating
in
our
garden
program,
please
apply
in
person
at
our
sixth
avenue
site
office.

Additionally,
this
year,
spring
gardening
classes
are
being
offered
by
des
moines
Community
Action
Agency,
in
collaboration
with
Parks
and
Rec
Department,
and
the
des
moines
public
library
classes
will
be
held
at
the
central
library
located
at
1000,
Grand
Avenue
Master
Gardener
mark
white
from
Iowa
State
University
Extension
will
give
a
presentation
that
will
cover
gardening
basics,
such
as
germination
bed,
preparation
planting
diseases
and
maintaining
and
harvesting
your
own
garden.

classes
will
be
held
up
for
19th
from
1130-2

senior
and
looking
for
something
to
help
make
your
outdoor
space
look
beautiful
des
moines?
Community
action
has
a
unique
program
just
for
you.
Our
flowering
annuals
program
is
available
for
City
of
Des
Moines
residents
that
are
60
years
of
age
or
older
and
gives
you
your
choice
of
annual
flowers,
whether
you
live
in
your
own
home,
rent
or
residential
facility.
These
flowers
can
help
make
any
space.
Look

Even
though
spring
is
here,
we
will
continue
to
take
liheap
or
low
income,
Home
Energy
Assistance
applications
through
April
thirtieth,
at
which
time
the
program
ends
until
this
next
fall.
Liheap
provides
a
one-time
payment
for
utility
bills
of
approved
households
and
offers
moratorium
protection
against
disconnection
during
those
cold
winter
months.
Because
spring
is
here
and
hopefully
warmer
temperatures.
The
moratorium
of
protection
will
end
April
first,
so
if
you
have
a
disconnect
notice
or
need
assistance,
getting
utilities
on
in
your
home,
our
assessment
and
resolution,
or
a
in
our
program
may
be.

and
assist
households
who
meet
the
income
program
guidelines
and
who
has
a
disconnect
notice.
Our
is
the

assistance
with
reconnection
of
services.
We
offer
this
program
monday
through
wednesday.

program
takes
a
comprehensive
look
at
your
situation.
There
are
limited
numbers
of
slots
available
each
day
when
you
come
in
for
this
program,
a
family
development
specialist
will
assist
your
financial
situation
with
mid-american
by
exploring
payment
options.
To
avoid
disconnections
are
to
reestablish
your
services,
a
complete
review
of
your
household
and
expenses.

is
a
program
that
does
ask
for
something
from
you
in
order
to
be
approved
for
the
assistance
Des
Moines
community
action
agency
requires
three
things:
a
adult
member
of
the
household
to
attend
a
financial
energy-wise
class,
a
minimum
payment
of
ten
percent
payment,
verification
from
other
agencies
vouchers,
any
additional
funds
needed
to
restore
services.

daily
availability
is
not
guaranteed.
We
open
our
doors
at
eight
a.m.
monday
through
wednesday.
