A
I'm
Avastin
city
manager,
Wally,
Bob
quartz,
and
welcome
to
this
week's
edition
of
Evanston
spotlight,
where
we
talk
about
upcoming
items
on
the
Evanston
City
Council
agenda.
So
for
our
next
meeting
on
Monday
November,
the
12th
we're
talking
about
snow
and
with
me
today
is
Edgar
Cano.
Our
public
services
bureau,
chief
from
our
public
works
department
and
Edgar,
a
big
item
on
the
agenda
coming
up
is
salt
purchases.
Tell
us
a
little
bit
about
how
much
salt
we
buy.
Why
we
buy
salt
and
our
prices
going
up
or
going
down
they're.
B
Going
up
Wally,
so
on
average
we
buy
about
7,000
pounds
of
excuse
me
tons
of
salt
each
year.
The
price
from
last
year,
which
was
I,
believe
close
to
$45
per
tonne,
shot
up
to
61
dollars
a
ton.
So
we
plan
on
purchasing
the
same
amount
for
this
year.
The
reason
we
purchase
so
much
is
obviously
to
spread
out
on
the
streets
to
maintain
them
safe,
but
we
also
provide
salt
to
school
districts
here.
District
65,
High
School,
District
202,
as
well
as
North
Western.
So.
B
A
B
Of
the
things
we
use
a
salt
brine
a
lot
of
times
we
anti-ice
when
we
anti-ice,
we
actually
go
out
and
treat
the
streets
with
the
salt
brine
prior
to
any
kind
of
winter
precipitation.
Coming.
That's
just
to
give
us
a
little
bit
of
time
when
precipitation
does
hit
the
the
pavement
or,
if
we're
not
to
freeze
and
we're
be
able
to
get
crews
out
there
to
handle
it.
