A
I'm
Evanson
city
manager,
Wally
Bob,
quit
so
welcome
to
this
week's
edition
of
Evanston
spotlight
where
we
talk
about
upcoming
items
on
the
Evanston
city
council
agenda
next
meeting
is
coming
up
on
Monday
November,
the
19th
and
I'm
joined
today
by
fire
chief
brian
scott
chief
scott.
Welcome
an
item
on
the
agenda.
Coming
up
is
our
recognition
of
being
designated
as
a
class-one
fire
department.
So
what
is
a
class-one
fire
department?
What
does
it
mean
for
Evanston
and
was
it
me
moving
forward
for
our
fire
department?
Well,.
B
It's
a
really
a
big
deal.
It's
a
very
prestigious
recognition
and
ISO
stands
for
the
Insurance
Services
office,
they're,
a
rating
agency
for
all
the
insurance
companies
throughout
the
United
States
and
every
five
years
they
do
evaluations
of
fire
departments
across
the
country.
In
fact,
they
do
over
47,000
fire
departments
and
they
have
a
rating
classification
system
that
is
based
in
four
key
areas.
B
It's
our
fire
suppression
ability,
our
water
system,
our
community
risk
reduction
activities
and
our
emergency
communication
system,
and
so
we
had
representatives
from
ISO
come
out,
evaluate
the
city
in
those
key
areas
and
we
were
given
the
prestigious
class
1
designation,
which
is
the
highest
like
this
designation.
A
city
can
receive,
in
fact
out
of
those
47,000
fire
department's.
Only
305
approximately
have
received
that
designation.
So
it
places
the
city
of
Evanston
and
the
top
0.007
percent
of
all
departments
in
the
United
States
wow.
That's
really.
A
B
Of
the
biggest
improvements
we
made
over
the
last
five
years
have
been
in
our
training
division.
Also,
our
communications
enhancements
and
the
emergency
dispatch
center
have
been
really
significant.
Our
water
system
has
always
been
top-shelf,
always
been
a
class
1
water
system,
so
they've
obviously
continued
their
excellent
work
and
another
big
factor
has
been
our
community
Risk
Reduction
activity,
so
we're
doing
so
much
more
with
respect
to
public
education
and
proactive
measures
in
the
community
to
make
sure
that
fires
and
emergencies
don't
happen
in
the
first
place,
so
code
enforcement
and
building
inspections,
for
example.
A
So
we
look
forward
to
the
meeting
on
Monday
night
will
celebrate
the
Aniston
fire
departments
class
1
fire
designation.
The
City
Council
will
continue,
hopefully
wrap
up
deliberations
on
the
fiscal
year,
2019
budget
for
more
information
about
the
City
Council
agenda
or
about
anything
we've
talked
about
here
today

chief
