why
tenants

want

for
violence

people

calling
us
with
these
problems
are

verge

coming

can't
afford

need

balance

they're
all
aware
of

working
with
experts,

with
the
land

working

housing
and

Cook
County
I

message
is
to

though

majority

people
speak

that

heart

this

needs

residents,

meeting
landlords
and

times
tenants

local
programs
do

upkeep

their

for
the

workers

workers
instead
of
meeting

worker
needs
to
make
regular

visits

sure
that
the
tenant
is
keeping

orderly
household

tenant
damages
such
as
broken
blinds
holes
in
the
walls,
removing
smoke
detectors
and
their
batteries,
so
they
will
not
work
properly.

Evanston
conducts

an
inspection
on
the
building
tenant
damages
the

equate

a
violation

the
housing

city

give

from
the
program

they
do

their

as

taxes

to
figure
that

than

mortgage
property
taxes
are
the
biggest
expense
on
a
building.

their
screening
processes,
prohibition
of
hidden
and
illegal
fees,
transparent
and
safe
security
deposits
and
limiting
late
fees.

removing
unallowed
pets,
non-tenants
living
in
the
unit
and
or
removing
overflow
from
storage

kinds
of
materials
uncompliance
issue,

10-day
period
to
cure
so
that
we
could
better
align
with
Chicago
and
Cook
County,
and
that,
of
course,
is
still
on
the
table.

some
policy
resources
suggest
extending
the
period
to
cure
to
30
days.
