From YouTube: Environmental Business Spotlight- Goodman Food Products
Description
Goodman Food Products is a longstanding Inglewood Business that has not only been a great retailer of quality products, but have been outstanding community partners as well.
A
Don
lee
farms
has
been
here
in
the
city
of
englewood
since
1984
and
they
also
have
locations
in
los
angeles
and
dallas.
This
organization
was
originally
founded
in
1940
by
larry
of
larry's
foods,
who
then
passed
the
company
on
to
his
son
donald
goodman,
who
founded
don
lee
farms
in
1982.,
donnelly
farm
specializes
in
meat
and
plant-based
burgers
bites
crumbles
meatballs,
you
name
it
a
variety
of
other
delicious
and
delectable
cuisine,
and
they
are
a
brand
recognized
all
across
the
world.
A
B
Yeah,
it's
a
good
question.
My
father
started
donnelly
farms
in
1982,
actually
in
a
rented
building
in
marina
del
rey
california
kind
of
down
the
street
didn't
know
if
it
was
going
to
go
so
he
rented
everything
and
then
when
he
got
his
first
couple,
customers
it
was
la
unified,
school
district
and
then
costco
that
is
currently
called
costco
as
price
club
at
the
time.
So
when
he
got
new
customers,
he
saw
it
was
starting
to
be
successful.
B
So
he
looked
around
all
across
the
city
and
found
englewood
and
in
1984
purchased
this
facility
here,
and
it's
been
our
headquarters
ever
since,
and
we've
been
lucky
to
be
here.
Inglewood
has
just
been
a
tremendous
city
to
operate
in
and
in
1984
when
he
first
started
here,
the
building
was
pretty
much
a
shell
and
he
really
upgraded
all
the
systems
created
a
whole
manufacturing
facility
within
the
four
walls
of
this
facility
too.
So
you
know
you
know
we
got
lucky
being
here
as
it
transitioned
over
the
years.
A
B
It's
a
it's.
A
great
question,
you
know,
being
environmentally
friendly
has
been
a
backbone
of
our
company
since
we
started
you
know,
the
the
foods
that
we
focus
on
is
really
local
and
sustainable.
We
prioritize
purchasing
raw
materials
locally,
producing
it
locally
and
then
delivering
it
locally
and
all
within
a
200
mile
radius.
That's
our
priority.
B
We
sell
outside
of
that
box,
but
really
majority
of
our
businesses
within
that
we
have
facility
in
texas
as
well
that
helps
us
operate
nationally,
but
through
englewood
we're
able
to
really
focus
on
central
valley,
purchasing
purchasing
all
around
la
county,
southern
california,
where
local
farmers,
suppliers,
ranchers
all
have
their
supplies
here.
We're
able
to
draw
on
that.
B
So
that's
been
a
big
priority
for
us,
but
on
top
of
that,
there's
a
lot
of
programs
that
we
initiated
over
the
years
that
really
were
ahead
of
their
time
and
now
we've
just
been
building
on,
and
that
includes
our
recycling
program.
We
we
produce
a
lot
of
food.
We
make
over
a
million
servings
per
day
and
in
doing
that,
we're
able
to
take
cardboard
boxes
that
we
use
and
throughout
our
process
and
we're
able
to
recycle
all
of
it.
None
of
it
goes
to
the
landfill
so
100
recycled.
B
B
We
have
refrigeration
system,
we
just
upgraded
to
that's
more
efficient,
safer
and
better
to
operate
and
every
decade
we
come
up
with
really
big
grand
plans
on
an
environmental
front
to
make
sure
that
we're
moving
our
company
forward
because
our
customers
always
looking
for
organic
natural,
clean
label
and
environmental
benefits
to
what
they're
buying.
So
it's
important
for
us
to
focus
on
that.
A
Awesome
us
too,
thank
you
for
reducing
your
carbon
footprint
very
important
and
we've
seen
that
we've
recently
seen
don
lee
farms
featured
on
various
news
outlets,
including
abc
news
and
news
break.
So
can
you
tell
us
a
little
bit
more
about
how
you're
creating
jobs
within
the
inglewood
community,
especially
during
this
pandemic?
We're
experiencing.
B
B
B
It
was
so
large
across
our
community
on
donations
that
they
took
a
lot
of
the
food
that
was
out
in
the
supply
chain
existing
that
were
going
to
restaurants
and
they
redistributed
it
to
different
customers,
including
the
food
bank,
where
they
distributed
the
food
across
the
country
here
in
inglewood
as
well.
So
we
were
able
to
participate
in
programs
like
that
and
we
were
actually
hiring.
B
So
we
took
many
employees,
including
employees,
from
the
restaurant
industry,
from
even
a
dental
hygienist
that
actually
worked
as
a
dental
hygienist
and
we
retrained
to
become
a
quality
control
technician,
and
you
know
we
we've
been
lucky
to
have
amazing
employees
here
locally
that
have
stepped
up
and
retrained
and
helped
produce
more
food
for
the
programs
that
we're
involved
in
retail
club
stores
and
co-packing.
So
we've
been
able
to
hire
actually
during
these
times
and
and
and
produce
more
food
than
we've
ever
had.
B
B
B
Yeah,
that's
that's
something
we're
really
proud
of.
We
are
actually
we
do
a
turkey
giveaway
every
year
we
we
actually
give
turkeys
to
our
employees
every
year
as
well,
but
the
turkey
giveaway
in
englewood
is
really
special
for
us.
We're
able
to
step
up
and
donate
turkeys
to
the
community
and
we
also
throughout
the
year,
participate
in
veteran
programs
here
in
the
city.
We
also
provide
scholarships
for
college-bound
students
from
englewood
high
schools,
where
we're
able
to
donate
money
for
that
cost
too.
