Mandel software development #41
Mandel 3.1 RC3 was released on August 5
ENF is reviewing a few minor issues that have been reported during testing of RC3 on Jungle 4. ENF product team is meeting today to discuss the plan and timelines to address the reported issues. It is likely the issues are minor enough that fixes can go straight into the final release.
Test Mandel on Jungle 4 #44
MSIG to deploy updated system contracts on Jungle4 was executed this morning.
Most BPs on Jungle 4 have upgraded to Mandel 3.1 RC3.
Some minor issues have been reported.

EOS Nation is still preparing to activate PowerUp on Kylin
Communicate upgrade plan broadly #50
The Mandel 3.1 Upgrade Guide is being updated with some additional guidance for those still using the the depreciated V1 history solution.
EOS Support will be sharing the upgrade guide with exchanges and developers once the changes are published.
We'll be promoting the September 21 upgrade and resources heavily this week

Test Mandel on Jungle 4 #44
All consensus features are now activated on Jungle4, including BLOCKCHAIN_PARAMETERS, which had previously not been activated
dfuse is now running successfully on Jungle4, but testing is still in progress to ensure it handles the new features as expected
BPs are asked to focus testing on contracts and CDT this week:
For CDT:
Baseline able to compile mandel-contracts.
But, would be good to see others trying to build their own contract projects.
For Contracts:
Baseline is to set mandel-contracts as the system contract.
But, it would be good to exercise any new functionality explicitly.
Testnet strategy #40
EOS Nation has deployed a token faucet and account creation smart contract on Kylin and is working on a back-end and telegram bot that will make it easy for anyone to create an account on Kylin and request tokens for testing simply by providing it a public key and account name.
Communicate upgrade plan broadly #50
A draft of the Mandel 3.1 upgrade guide is ready for feedback. Please provide any feedback as comments in the document by end of week.
ENF is translating the document this week and publishing next week.
We will work with EOS Support to communicate the upgrade guide with all stakeholders next week.
The article will also include a survey. Provide feedback on survey questions here.

An other developer states that it is not possible to confirm whether there are remote containers. It will be great if there is support for remote container. James Mart has a video on this: Writing modern EOS smart contracts. The Fractally team supports remote container per the respondent.

From a software readiness perspective, we're a go for activating consensus features on Jungle4, but we still require some additional BPs to upgrade to Mandel 3.1 RC2 and some clarity on the activation procedure before we can proceed.
EOS Nation will track upgrade progress and engage with CryptoLions and other BPs to get their Jungle4 nodes upgraded to Mandel 3.1 RC2

EOS Nation and EOSphere have upgraded to Mandel 3.1 RC1 on Jungle4
The working group proposed the following timeline for continued testing on Jungle4:
15/21 BPs (ideally 21/21) upgrade to 3.1 (June 15 - June 21)
Release CDT for Jungle4 (crypto lions will need to prepare for the MSIG to activate it) (June 17-21)
go/no-go during next Mandel weekly call to activate EVM features (June 22)
MSIG to activate EVM features (June 22-23)
Note - the following risk was raised after the call: history solutions like Hyperion and dfuse need time to test with mandel 3.1-rc1. dfuse still needs a lot more testing before it is ready to run on Mandel 3.1. Hyperion status should be checked with EOS Rio team. There would be no working block explorer if no history solutions are ready at the time of feature activation.

June 7 go/no-go call for Mandel 3.1 RC1 release was a no-go. The next go/no-go meeting will be on June 14. There's a high likelihood it will be a go, as there were only minor items left to address.

There was a new patch released to enhance subjective billing: 2.0.14
Release notes draft is in progress and available for review and feedback: https://github.com/eosnetworkfoundation/mandel/releases/tag/v2.0.14
The block log splitting feature development is still in progress. The June deadline will be tight, but still the target.
Shout out to OCI for their great work knocking out bug fixes and enhancements and working closely with node operators to make improvements that make their lives easier.

D.U.N.E., the new development environment is ready
33 EOS developers responded to the platform support survey
17 of those respondents selected "purely native" as their preferred development environment
1 of the respondents who prefer a native development environment said that a well documented docker image would not be an acceptable alternative for the Mac, with the following reason: Docker too slow and created a lot of trash on local machine. Also running native unit tests and each time rebuild docker image is worst dev experience.
12 of the respondents who prefer native development environment said that a docker image would meet their needs and 2 said maybe.
We will share D.U.N.E. with respondents and ask for feedback on the experience.

API+ Transaction Lifecycle features have been delivered by OCI and are being tested on Jungle4.
Long list of bug fixes have been completed and are being documented
Block log splitting in progress, will be delivered close to June 1
80% complete analysis on 2.1 and 2.2 features and all PRs and prioritized and logged issues for Mandel (2500 PRs)
Mandel 3.1 contains all of 2.0 and the key features of 2.1 plus a bunch of bug fixes

Docker image testing and documentation scope has expanded to become a full-blown dev environment, which also includes a web IDE. Development is done and testing and documentation is almost complete.
Platform support survey has been distributed by EOS Support and we should have results to share next week.

Scope for 3.1 has been pretty much finalized and all features are expected to be ready for testing by late May or early June.
API+ Transaction Lifecycle features being developed by OCI are expected to be completed in the coming days.

EOS Nation is continuing to test transaction lifecycle features from 3.1 pre-release on Jungle 4 as they become available
EOSphere is now running Mandel 3.05 RC1 on Jungle4 for their public API and seed peer. BP coming soon.
A question from ENF was raised about forks and LIB falling behind that has been reported by developers testing EVM on Jungle4. @matthewdarwin has confirmed that this is not due to any issue with the Mandel software and not unexpected for Jungle4 given the testing happening on unstable releases. Jungle4 is meant to be the testnet for breaking stuff. ENF may want to consider funding a stable testnet for dApp developers, along the lines of the B1 testnet, which is no longer stable.

ENF is on track to confirm that the upgrade path will be directly to Mandel 3.1.
Mandel 3.1 will include transaction lifecycle improvements identified in the API+ blue paper and implemented by OCI.
Mandel 3.1 final release is projected for end of June, with a testable release by late May.
Acceptance criteria for the transaction lifecycle improvements is in the process of being published publicly.
CryptoLions have started Jungle 4 testnet with B1's EOSIO 2.0.
BPs are asked to join Jungle 4 ahead of testing the upgrade to Mandel 3.0.
Jungle 3 will remain active for the short term.
cc32d9 has identified bug fixes in B1's public repository that can be merged into Mandel and is in the process of documenting them.
EOS Support and EOS Nation are on track with documenting points of contact for EOS developers and exchanges so they can be informed of the Mandel upgrade.
EOS USA has deployed Hyperion to Kylin testnet.
EOS Nation and EOS Asia are coordinating to condition Kylin testnet for Mandel upgrade testing.
Mandel will officially support Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04. There will be documentation for running it in Docker for Mac and Windows.
