first

all,
before
we
get
into
the
actual
results
of
the
project
and
share
with
you
some
of
our
findings
and
lessons
learned.
Let
me
give
you
a
little
bit
of
background
so
that
you
understand
what
is
the
system
that
we're
deploying
and
what
are
some
of
the
tools
and
techniques
that
we
used.

to
talk
a
little
bit
about
that
without
taking
up
the
whole
presentation,
because
I
have
some
opinions,
having
worked
in
this
space
for
quite
a
while
and
thought
a
lot
about
this,
so
I'm
gonna
talk
a
little
bit
about
that.
I
won't
take
up
too
much
time,
because
I
think
most
people
are
probably
here
would
like
to
hear
a
little
bit
about.
How
does
this
stuff
work
in
production
and
I?
Think
you'll
see
as
I
go
on
I'll
probably
loosen
up
a
little
bit.

haven't
spoken
in
front
of
a
group
here
in
a
couple
days,
so
we'll
talk
about
the
value
of
the
permission.
Blockchain
we're
going
to
talk
about
the
probe
Ichie
blockchain,
offering
which
the
offering
that
we
have.
We
developed
a
an
offering
for
the
the
loyalty
space
and
our
offering
is
significantly
different
than
other
loyalty
type
of
offerings
that
we've
seen
so
we're
going
to
talk
about
what
that
offering
is,
and
then
we're
going
to
talk
about
a
specific
instance
where
we
deployed
our
offering
into
the
production
environment.
As
I
mentioned
a
moment
ago.

So
I'm,
assuming
that
everyone
here
is
fairly
familiar
with
the
concepts
of
blockchain,
so
I
won't
I'll.
Try
not
to
take
too
much
of
a
remediation
step
here
and
I'll
try
to
go
through
this
relatively
quickly.
So
I
believe
that
in
the
world
today,
we
live
in,
what's
called
a
bank
centric
transaction
model
and
without
trying
to
go
into
too
much
of
the
details
of
this
slide.

What
we're
trying
to
depict
here
that
is
that
in
most
every
market,
there's
significant
middlemen
between
transactions
and
I
think
that,
if
you
think
about
it,
there's
whether
you
you
think
of
them
a
banks
or
payment
processors,
transaction
processors
and
and
the
like,
but
the
entire
infrastructure
that
we
have
in
the
world
today
for
transacting
commerce,
is
a
bank
centric
transaction
model
and
I.
Think
that
if
you
look
at
the
picture,
you
can
see
the
concept
is
that
there's
middlemen
everywhere.

On
a
blockchain,
you
guys
know
how
block
chains
work,
but
essentially
the
the
transactions
can
be
more
peer-to-peer,
so
we
can
cut
out
a
lot
of
middlemen
between
all
transactions.
Essentially,
what
happens
is
the
bank
is
replaced
in
some
ways?
A
lot
of
the
bank's
functions
and
responsibilities
are
replaced
by
technology
or
we
can
be
replaced
by
the
blockchain.
So
here's
a
blockchain
transaction
model,
then
I'm
gonna
talk
a
little
bit
about
a
blockchain
centric
transaction
model,
which
is
I.

Think
where
folks
would
like
to
try
to
get
to,
and
the
net
here
that
I'm
trying
to
describe
is
the
fact
that
I'm
not
proposing
that
that
we
don't
need
banks.
What
I'm
proposing
is
that
we
can
definitely
streamline
and
optimize
the
transaction
process
by
using
more
blockchain,
more
peer-to-peer
transaction
processing
and
more
direct
consumer
to
business
transaction
processing.

But
I
think
it's
very
difficult
to
argue
with
the
fact
that
the
financial
industry
and
the
financial
processing
and
transaction
processing
industry
is
a
it's
it's
an
over
its
a
cost.
It's
a
cost
center,
it's
not
a
it's,
not
two
companies
like
Airlines
and
anybody
that's
producing
real
goods
and
services,
the
the
caught
the
amount
of
money
that
they
that
we
all
spend
on
the
finance
industry
has
grown
way
too
much.

And
so
we
need
to
find
a
way
to
reel
that
in
to
get
the
to
reduce
the
costs
of
the
processing
of
our
the
financial
elements
of
our
transactions.
So
the
way
that
we
can
do
that
is
by
using
private
or
permission
block
chains,
and
you
can
think
of
it
conceptually
and
as
similar
to
the
Lightning
Network
is-
is
to
Bitcoin.

Where
I've
come
to
in
thinking
about
this,
is
that
the
the
the
people
the
like,
like
myself,
the
the
anarcho-capitalists
of
the
world
or
the
people
that
think
that
the
world
needs
to
to
change,
to
be
more
decentralized,
I.
Think
there's
a
lot
of
people
would
agree
with
that.
I
believe
that
the
path
to
that
is
specifically
through
private
and
permission
block
chains
and
the
and
the
reason
is
that
the.
A
Could
easily
Bank
themselves
as
well?
They
could
they
do
not
need
the
financial
industry.
They
do
not
need
to
pay
the
vast
amounts
of
money
that
they
that
they
do
today.
So
by
allowing
these
large
and
deep
pocketed.
Companies
like
the
Amazons
and
the
apples
and
the
googles
of
the
world
to
sort
of
be
able
to
be
self
banked
will
be
a
strong
driving
force
towards
reducing
the
inappropriate
amount
of
money.
That's
that's
being
spent
in
the
financial
sector.
So
to
say
it
simply.
A
The
the
reason
that
I'm
excited
about
permission
blockchains,
like
hyper
ledger,
is
that
hopefully
we're
going
to
be
able
to
use
the
power
of
the
these
block
chains,
along
with
the
the
non-financial
corporations,
the
the
the
the
the
all
the
corporations
where
the
finance
sector
is
a
cost
to
them.
They're
going
to
be
able
to
use
the
blockchain
to
become
much
more
efficiency
and
drive
out
a
lot
of
costs
that
they
currently
have
in
in
in
their
transaction
processing
costs.

One
of
the
things
that
that
we've
all
seen
in
the
blockchain
space
for
anywhere
everyone
that's
paying
attention-
is
that
there's
a
lot
of
big
hopes
and
big
dreams
and
grand
visions
of
how
we're
gonna
make
change
the
world
and
make
the
better
make
it
a
better
place
and
I'm
all
bought
into
that,
but
being
having
lived
on
this
earth
for
quite
a
while
and
worked
with
humans
and
large
corporations
for
a
long
time.
I
realized
that
those
types
of
sea
changes
don't
happen
overnight
and
they
typically
don't
happen
by
flipping
a
switch.

No
one's
going
to
come
out
with
a
brand
new
loyalty
blockchain
in
my
mind,
that's
going
to
immediately
unseat
the
the
hundreds,
if
not
thousands,
of
large
loyalty
programs
that
that
exist.
Moreover,
if
you
think
about
it,
the
the
loyalty
world,
the
the
loyalty
product,
if
you
will
the
loyalty
ecosystem,
is
not
one
that
naturally
lends
itself
to
decentralization.

So
our
offering
is
different
in
that
we're
not
trying
to
to
put
a
build
a
loyalty
platform
and
a
loyalty
product
on
the
blockchain.
It
actually
doesn't
make
a
lot
of
sense
and
I'm
not
going
to
go
into
too
much
reason
to
much
of
the
reasons
there.
But
I
will
talk
about
the
fact
that
what
the
probe
each
blockchain
offering
does
is
it's
a
it's
a
blockchain.
That's
grafted
to
an
existing
loyalty
platform
and
in
a
loyalty
platform
and
a
loyalty
program,
you're
all
familiar
with
them
right.

The
biggest
that
I'm
aware
of
as
far
as
enterprise
loyalty
come
from
one
of
the
biggest
comes
from
Oracle's
Siva
loyalty
product
and
my
company
is
somewhat
Oracle,
leaning
because
of
our
history
and
so
Oracle
also
has
another
significant
loyalty
product
called
the
Oracle
loyalty
cloud.
So
we
focused
on
grafting
our
blockchain
onto
those
two
existing
loyalty
platforms
and
really
quickly.
The
reason
why
we're
doing
it
that
way
is
that
most
people,
a
lot
of
people,
don't
know
that
a
loyalty
platform
does
many
things.
A
Besides
just
sending
points
around
a
loyalty
platform
is
really
a
customer
demographic
engine
store.
It's
a
it's
a
marketing
engine,
it's
a
it's
a
it's
a
program
definition
and
it's
a
behavioral
engine
so
that
you
know
when
you
define
when
you
define
rules
such
as
well,
what
does
it
take
to
become
a
bronze
versus
a
silver
versus
a
gold
member?
Those
types
of
tier
definitions,
all
that
stuff
is,
does
it
is
defined
in
these
loyalty
platforms,
and
none
of
that
stuff
makes
sense
to
be
included
in
a
blockchain.

The
blockchain
is
the
point
of
truth
for
the
asset
balances
and
the
asset
movements,
the
point
balances
and
the
point
movements
and
the
existing
loyalty
system
remains
the
point
of
truth.
For
the
other
types
of
information,
that's
required
to
run
a
loyalty
program,
demographic
information,
marketing,
information
to
your
information,
etc.

a
high
level,
our
architecture
is,
if
you
look,
you
can
see
that
in
the
top
right.
This
is
there's
a
there's,
a
existing
loyalty
platform,
that's
the
cloud
and
then
in
the
center.
You
can
see
that
there's
a
large
database
today
that
sits
behind
a
many
loyalty
program
and
typically
that
large
database
is
probably
an
Oracle
database
of
some
type.
So
what
we've
done
is
if
you
can
see
the
little
gold
sliver
there.
We
carve
that
piece
out
of
the
database
of
the
Oracle
database
and
we
put
it
onto
the
blockchain
net-net.

That's
that's
all
we
do
and
then
we
we
are
offering
includes
the
creation
of
the
blockchain,
the
delivery
of
the
middleware
that
allows
the
blockchain
to
communicate
with
the
existing
loyalty
platform
and
any
sort
of
mobile
application.
You
know
the
end.
Users
need
to
use
something
to
transfer
loyalty
points
right.
So
so
what
we
have
is
really
the
components
that
you
see
listed
here
on
the
screen
and
the
bottom.
We
have
a
mobile,
a
mobile
app.

Which
we
do
not
sell,
it's
a
reference
app
anybody
with
an
existing
loyalty
program
in
the
world
today
in
corporations
of
the
size
that
we
work
with,
have
their
own
mobile
app
and
have
their
own
loyalty
apps.
So
we
simply
provide
them
a
reference
to
be
able
to
incorporate
the
the
UI
into
their
existing
mobile
applications
in
the
middle.
We
provide
the
API
layer
and
in
the
left,
where
it
says
ad
e.

What
we
do
is
provide
the
ability
for
the
accruals
which
take
place
in
the
existing
loyalty
platform
to
be
written
to
the
blockchain
and
I'm
not
going
to
get
into
that,
but
there's.
If
we
can
talk
about
that
afterwards,
if
you
have
questions
and
then
in
the
top,
we
provide
an
administrative
interface
that
allows
you
allows
the
issuing
company
or
the
parent
company
of
the
loyalty
program
to
easily
onboard
and
off-board
new
partners
into
their
loyalty
coalition
or
their
loyalty
program.

really
there's
six
benefits
listed
on
this
slide
of
this
approach
in
the
top
left-hand
corner.
That's
the
big
one!
That's
where
we're
gonna
do
this
and
in
a
small
way,
but
the
world
is
going
to
do
this
in
a
large
way,
hopefully
in
the
future,
because,
basically,
what's
going
to
happen,
is
that
by
putting
the
tokens
or
the
points
or
whatever
you
want
to
call
them
onto
the
blockchain
and
enabling
the
transactions
to
be
conducted
and
stored
on
the
blockchain.

We
can
now
allow
a
large
issuing
company
like
a
like
in
American
Airlines,
for
example,
to
very
quickly
and
easily
allow
partners
to
participate
in
their
loyalty
program,
and
you
may
say:
well-
maybe
they
already
have
that
today,
but
but
they
don't
the
way.
Loyalty
programs
work
today
is
that
the
process
of
being
a
partner
in
these
large
loyalty
programs
is
semi-automated,
very
IT
intensive
and
nowhere
near
real-time.
So
essentially,
what
it
involves
is
that
there's
a
communication
that
takes
if
you
want
to
partner
with
American
Airlines.
A
But
what
we're
proposing
is
that,
by
extending
the
loyalty
program
to
the
blockchain,
we
can
allow
the
issuing
company
to
easily
expand
their
partner
Network
by
simply
having
their
partners,
run
a
note
on
the
blockchain
and
run
the
same
smart
contracts
that
every
partner
is
running
and
they
will
immediately
so
by
running
a
node
and
signing
up
to
have
a
node
hosted,
for
example,
they'll
be
able
to
immediately
start
participating
in
the
blockchain
and
there's
no
monthly
sort
of
reconciliation
process.
That
needs
to
take
place
where
the
hotel
chain
says.
A
This
is
how
many
points
we
Bob.
This
is
how
many
points
we
spent
here's
who
we
gave
the
points
to
here's.
How
many
points
we
gave
to
these
members?
That's
the
way
the
process
works
today
that
can
all
go
away
and
so
that,
by
simply
running
a
node
and
being
approved
by
the
issuing
company
by
American,
Airlines
partners
can
be
added
into
the
loyalty
coalition
at
will
and
up
and
stated
another
way.

What
our
offering
provides
with
just
this
simple
drafting
of
the
blockchain
it
allows
a
large
issuing
company
to
define,
set
up
and
manage
their
own.
What
we
call
loyalty
coalition
in
a
loyalty
coalition
is
just
a
group
of
companies
that
all
agree
they're
going
to
share
royalty
points
with
each
other,
so
this
simple
enhancement
to
the
existing
loyalty
platforms
will
allow
companies
to
quickly
and
easily
establish
their
own
loyalty
coalition's
and,
if
you're
familiar
with
loyalty
coalition's,
then
you
know
that
those
that
exist
today
are
not
being
delivered
in
this
fashion.

And,
lastly,
before
let
me
let
me
go
through
these
other
benefits,
real,
quick
and
then
I'll
get
into
the
next
section,
but
so
the
other
big
benefit
is
increased.
Customer
usage
of
loyalty
benefits,
there's
a
huge
industry
problem.
Everyone
knows
it
that
most
members
and
loyalty
programs
are
not
very
engaged,
so
the
second
major
benefit
is,
if
you
have
more
places
and
can
more
easily
spend
points,
you're
gonna
be
more
engaged
in
the
loyalty
program.
So
that's
the
second
benefit.
These
other
benefits.
A
If
you
look
in
the
bottom
right
position
for
publicly
traded
token
at
a
future
date,
so
you
could
imagine
a
world
in
the
future
where
these
loyalty
tokens
or
loyalty
points,
if
you
will
once
enabled
on
the
blockchain,
not
only
could
be
they
be
extended
to
partners.
But
you
can
envision
a
scenario
where
those
tokens
could
be
exchanged
with
other
loyalty
programs.
There
could
be
the
loyalty
points
themselves,
could
have
real
monetary
value
and
could
be
traded
on
exchanges
for
other
cryptocurrencies.

Other
loyalty
points
points
in
other
loyalty
systems
and
programs
for
that
matter
and
could
essentially
extend
globally
and
then.
Lastly,
it's
only
a
quick
hop
skip
step
to
two
once
you've
created
a
royalty
token
with
a
certain
value,
that's
tradable
amongst
partners
and
is
exchangeable
outside
of
the
ecosystem.
Well,
then,
what
you've
essentially
done
is
created.

company
has
created
its
own
currency
and
can
become
completely
self
banked.
So
these
loyalty
tokens,
if
you
will,
could
eventually
become
the
things
that
they
pay
all
their
suppliers
and
vendors
with
and
and
so
forth.

We
just
went
live
with
release
one.
We
grafted
the
hyper
ledger
fabric
brach
blockchain,
to
an
existing
loyalty
system.
In
this
case
they
were
using
Oracle,
Siebel
loyalty
product
many
of
the
largest
loyalty
systems
in
the
world,
run
on
Oracle,
Siebel
loyalty,
I,
don't
know.
If
that's
commonly
known
as
I
mentioned,
we
integrate
the
blockchain
as
a
point
of
truth
for
the
points
and
the
balances
we
keep
the
exempt
the
existing
loyalty
system
in
place
and
during
this
pilot
phase
were
essentially
going
to
run
both
systems
in
parallel.

So
we'll
continue
to
maintain
the
point
transactions
and
balances
in
the
existing
loyalty
system,
while
at
the
same
time
redundantly
putting
all
that
information
into
the
blockchain
due
to
the
financial
nature
of
the
project.
This
is
the
typical
way
it's
done
will
run
like
this
for
multiple
months
and
then
the
auditors
and
so
forth
will
determine
that
the
system
works
and
that
all
the
the
blockchain
matches
the
existing
loyalty
database
and
then
once
that's
done.
We'll
move
to
the
next
stage,
which
I'll
talk
about.

So
talk
a
little
bit
about
I
tried
to
so
originally
when
we
started
this
project,
I
was
hoping
to
have
a
little
bit
more
of
a
benchmark
for
the
performance,
but
we
ran
into
a
couple
of
issues
so
I'm.
We
we
have
some
data
regarding
benchmarking,
but
essentially
I
spent
some
time
and
went
through
the
hyper
ledger
working
group
performance.
A
You
know
how
to
evaluate
the
performance
of
blockchains
and
there
they
had
some
good
information
in
there.
So
I'll
talk
a
little
bit
about
that,
but
we
were
unable
to
complete
sort
of
a
formal
benchmarking
of
the
system
per
the
requirements
that
the
the
working
group
gave.
So
it's
more
of
what
we
would
call
a
performance
evaluation,
so
the
network
size
was
six
nodes.
I'll
talk
a
little
bit
more
about
those
the
we
provide
the
ability
to
query
the
blockchain
to
get
historical
transactions
for
loyalty.

I'll
talk
a
little
bit
about
them.
The
process
to
to
read
the
transactions
from
the
blockchain,
the
state
and
the
global
state
is
stored
in
the
CouchDB.
That's
shipped
with
the
with
with
hyper
ledger
and
the
all
transactions
are
the
the
system
supports
that
the
the
the
transferring
of
points
between
three
main
participants,
members
partners
treasure
the
treasure
is
the
wallet
of
the
issuing
company.

Here's
the
actual
I
changed
the
names
of
these
paths
so
that
they're
kind
of
meaningless,
but
I
think
what
you
can
see
here
is
that
we
had,
as
was
mentioned
earlier
today.
You
know
hyper
ledger.
Fabric
supports
different
types
of
nodes,
so,
as
you
can
see
here,
we
essentially
have
have
created
redundancy
so
for
the
for
the
transaction
throughput
that
we
envision,
we
only
anticipating
needing
three
nodes,
but.

For
redundancy
reasons
right,
we
wanted
to
make
sure
that
if
something
happened
or
something
went
wrong
on
some
of
the
nodes,
we
had
enough
capacity
to
continue
to
run
and
process
the
system,
so
we
doubled
that
and-
and
we
actually
the
key
here
is
that
the
they're,
the
nodes
are
not
located.
They're,
not
co-located
they're
in
different
physical
locations.

So
here's
a
quick
summary
of
the
performance,
so
we
use
vert
fabric
version
1.1,
our
business
network
definition
was
composers,
are
generated
and
all
of
our
REST
API
is
were
also
composer
generated.
We
provided
REST
API
to
transfer
tokens
and
add
participants
the
number
of
blockchain
transactions
so
far
that
we
put
into
the
blockchain
or
four
hundred
thousand
the
mechanisms
to
load
transactions
is
a
pull
model.

Unfortunately,
I
don't
have
a
good
metric
for
the
transaction,
throughput
capabilities
for
the
write
transactions,
but
we
ran
it
and-
and
essentially
one
of
the
reasons
for
that
is
that
we
had
no
issues
the
the
rights
were
virtually
instantaneous.
So
the
performance
of
writing
to
the
blockchain-
and
this
is
one
of
the
big
benefits
of
using
a
product
like
light
fabric-
is
that
it's
extremely
fast.
The
reads
on
the
other
hand,
to
to
to
access
the
data
were
a
little
bit
more
problematic.
So
what
we've
did?
A
What
we
determined
and
I'll
talk
about
this
in
the
lessons
learned
section
is
that
the
we
were
able
to
so
so
one
of
the
one
of
the
elements
of
a
loyalty
program.
Besides
being
able
to
transact
points,
is
a
lot
of
people
like
to
do
like
mundane
user
activities
like
hey?
Let
me
look
at
the
history
of
all
my
loyalty
transactions.
A
Let's
make
sure
that
it's
accurate,
that's
a
pretty
common
scenario
for
a
loyalty
member
to
do,
and
we
determined
that
if
a
user
had
100
transactions
historically
written
into
the
blockchain,
we
found
that
there
was
not
a
good
way
for
us
to
read
those
transactions
quickly
from
the
blockchain,
and
this
is
probably
you
guys.
Some
of
you
more
experienced
guys
are
probably
saying
well
duh,
you
know,
block
chains
are
not
sort
of
set
up
to
do
that.

Perhaps
we
were
a
little
naive
in
that
regard,
but
we
determined
that
we
needed
to
do
something
to
allow
for
the
reading
of
the
historical
transaction
data
from
the
blockchain
and
the
what
we
did
was
sort
of
a
short-term
fix
for
the
issue.
Subsequent
to
that
the
feedback
that
we
provided
to
the
hyper
ledger
team,
with
some
requests
for
some
enhancements
that
would
help
us
to
perform
this
particular
act
of
reading
a
lot
of
historical
transactions
out
of
the
blockchain.

So
here
here's
what
we
learned
as
I
mentioned
the
it
was
difficult
for
us
to
read
the
historical
transactions
in
a
timely
fashion
from
the
blockchain
and
so
what
we,
what
we
ended
up
doing
is
creating
another
database.
So
every
time
we
wrote
a
record
to
the
blockchain,
we
created
an
INT.
We
created
it
simply
a
basically
it's
almost
like
a
lookup
table
so
that
every
time
a
record
was
created
and
then
the
blockchain
or
a
transaction
record
was
created
in
the
blockchain.

We
updated
another
table
that
had
the
the
to
participant,
the
from
participant
and
the
transaction
ID,
so
that
what
we
do
now
is
when
we
need
to
display
a
list
of
historical
transactions
from
the
blockchain.
We
read
our
table
and
index
that
table
so
that
it
can
perform
it
so
that
it's
performant
and
then,
as
we
read
each
index
record
from
that
table,
we
could
go
out
to
the

understanding

capabilities

provide
that
paging
capability
that
folks
are
used
to
and
then
require
and
in
real
applications
is
coming.

issue
is
trying
to
query
a
large
number
of
transactions
from
the
blockchain
lots,

from
the
blockchain
itself
and
the
the
wrath,

reasons
why
it's
difficult
has
to

with

fact
that

structure
of
block
chains,
you
know
with
Merkel
trees
and
and
and
and
the
and
the
way
that
the
the
Merkle
trees
are
constructed.
It
doesn't
lend
itself
well
to
this
type
of
this
type
of
indexed
query.
Essentially,
you
can't
index
the
blockchain
to
to
optimize.

couple
different
solutions
to
that.
So
one
is
the
ability
to
specify
a
page
size
that
would
allow
for
a
smaller
number
of
Records
to
be
requested
and
delivered
more
quickly,
but
the
the
other
thing
that's
taking
place

to
get
too
much
into
the
market
dynamics
of
this.
But
multiple
vendors
have
identified
this
particular
sort
of
I,
don't
I'll,
say
gap
in
in
in
in
most
blockchain
offerings,
I
think
if
you
saw
I,
think
it
was
AWS
announced
recently
Oracle
may
have
announced
today.

missed
the
Oracle
presentation,
but
they're,
providing
essentially
what
they're,
what
many
of
these
new
these
vendors.
In
my
understanding,
what
they're
doing
is
they're
providing
a
sort
of
encrypted
database
that
sits
alongside
the
blockchain
that
does
essentially
what
we
kind
of
built
and
that
it's
a
it's
a
database
that
is
secure
and
encrypted,
but
that
it
will
support
the
type
of
indexing
and
querying
that
are
needed
by
sort
of
the
applications
that
users
need
to
interact
with.

my
understanding
is
that
there's
companies
that
are
are
solving
this
by
delivering
with
the
blockchain
sort
of
another
node.
If
you
will
like
it's
a

the
query,
node
and
it
has
a
database
on
it-
that
is,
that
is
driven
the
data
in
it
is
driven
by
the
data
or
matches
exactly
the
data,
that's
in
the
blockchain,
so
that
you
can
direct
these
types
of
activities.

to
this
secure
database
that

kept
in

the
system
with
the
blockchain
itself
and

delivering
capabilities
