IV. Happy Flag Day!
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the resolution:
That the flag of the United States shall be of thirteen stripes of alternate red and white, with a union of thirteen stars of white in a blue field, representing the new constellation.”
The exact origin of “Flag Day” is in dispute, but began being celebrated in the late 1880s.

she

Well,
my
wife
has
been
so
enthused
over
this
whole
process
of
learning
the
history
of
our
house
coming
down
to
downtown,
montgomery
and
and
and
learning
just
how
many
few
owners
had
been
in
our
house
through
his
history.
So
we
we've
gotten
a
wonderful
knowledge
of
that
and
we
are
we're
so
appreciative
of
of
y'all
of
awarding
us
this
this
plaque.
We
thank
you
so
much
and-
and
it's
been
a
a
very
nice
process
and.

Dr
bailey,
this
is
actually
a
replacement
sign
for
south
capitol
parkway,
which
was
one
of
the
first
neighborhoods
of
locally
designated
areas
in
the
city
of
montgomery
done
during
the
middle
1980s.
Most
of
the
houses
were
built
around
1912,
and
so
this
is
a
replacement
for
after
50
years
of
being
historically
designated.

we
continue
with
our
proceedings
here
this
afternoon,
just
like
to
encourage
everyone
out
there
and
our
other
commissioners,
if
you
know
some
worthy
candidates
as
we
proceed
during
the
year,
please
bring
those
people
to
our
attention
because
we
want
to
give
them
a
sign

Yes
and
one
one
of
the
things
that
we
want
to
say
since
we
are
the
historic
preservation.
Commission
is
simply
this.
Many
things
that
have
happened
and
days
gone
by
were
big
deals
during
that
day,
and
sometimes
they
don't
get
that
same
kind
of
pomp
and
circumstance
in
current
societal,
contemporary
society.

But
we
just
want
to
let
you
know
there
was
a
time
when
flag
day
was
a
big
to
do,
and
we
just
want
people
to
be
able
to
reflect
and
actually
identify
with
the
past
and
some
of
the
things
that
we
did
decades
ago,
that
we
want
you
to
know
that
we
don't
want
those
things
to
lose
their
significance
in
contemporary
society.
Okay,
chris,
do
you
have
anything
else.

long
time
ago,
in
a
land
far
far
away,
we
used
to
issue
restoration
of
the
month
and
we
do
have
a
new
sign
to
put
on
our
post.
So
if
anybody
sees
anything
that
has
been,
you
know
undergoing
a
renovation
or
restoration
that
you
think
would
be
a
good
candidate
for
a
restoration
of
the
month,
where
we
post
a
sign
in
the
front
yard
for
a
month,
be
sure
to
send
those
in
or
bring
them
up
at
a
meeting
and
what
we
can
work.

I
just
wanted
to
say
also
that
landmarks
foundation
graduated
on
25
people
in
may
for
the
preservation
leadership.
Three
that
we
had.
It
was
a
six
a
course
of
six
sessions
assorted
from
neighborhood
histories
to
paint
colors
to
inter
interior
features,
with
a
guided
tour
of
a
large
restoration
at
1616,
south
peri
in
the
garden
district.
So
it
was,
it
went
really
well
this
year,
so
I
we're
taking
suggestions
for
preservation,
leadership,
seminar,
number
four.

Yeah,
could
we
had
a
wonderful
experience?
We,
unfortunately
due
to
a
scheduling,
conflict
missed
at
least
one,
but
every
single
class
that
we
attended.
We
learned
so
much
about
the
the
structure,
the
history
really
the
history
of
montgomery.
The
very
first
class
was
so
informative
to
me
and
in
in
really
what
made
montgomery
special
and
from
the
architectural
standpoint,
but
but
from
the
historical
standpoint,
and
it
was,
it
was
really
interesting,
learning
about
cloverdale
and
and
the
different
communities
and
and
the
history
and
and
it
was
we
thoroughly
enjoyed
it.

I
think
the
history
of
your
community
is
important,
and
I
think
that
that
was
a
wonderful
class
that
they
put
on
wonderful
book
that
came
with
it
by
the
way
the
book
itself
looked
like
it
cost
a
hundred
dollars
plus.
So
I
mean
we
certainly
got
our
money's
back
money's
worth
on
that,
but
but
we
we
just.

It
was
a
really
informative,
well-thought-out
program
that
took
us
through
different
phases
of
the
history
and
the
architecture
and
ended
up
at
1616
was
a
was
a
really
neat
venue
and
place
to
see
in
fact
we're
considering
that
venue
for
a
wedding
with
my
my
son
and
his
future
bride.
So
we're
we're
mulling
that
over
so
it
was.
We
just
had
a
great
time.

Well,
one
of
the
things
that
we
we
try
to
do
in
planning
this,
and
then
you
know
the
other.
The
previous
ones
is
that
we
don't
want
to
repeat
like.
In
other
words,
you
have
a
chance
to
come
next
year.
It'll
be
changed
up
enough
to
make
it
worthwhile
for
those
people
who
have
come
to
come
back
again
so
that
that's
one
of
the
things
we
really
wanted
to
do
this
this
year
as
well.
So
we
took
everyone's
suggestions
in
their
evaluations
as
to
what
what
they
want
to
hear
next
year
too.

20th
we're
having
the
oak
cloverdale
association
meeting
in
oak
cloverdale
park
and
cameron.
Dubois
and
rick
hansen
are
going
to
be
performing
doing
a
concert
in
the
park
after
our
meeting
so
and
it's
all
free
anyone
and
everyone
is
welcome
to
come,
bring
your
own
food
and
drinks
and
enjoy
old,
cloverdale.
