This inaugural Town Hall for the NEAR Community kicks off with NEAR Foundation CEO Erik Trautman, providing an introduction on what NEAR is, how the NEAR Foundation is supporting NEAR’s development and what the current main goals for NEAR Foundation are.
NEAR Co-Founder Illia Polosukihin lays out the three stages in which NEAR Protocol is being rolled out and what the current status of the project is. Lately, the main focus has been around the distribution of the NEAR Token, which will officially start from today. The tokens can be delegated to validators to start securing the network immediately.
Head of DevRel Peter DePaulo continues with an update on the developer relations department and in which way you can start contributing to the development of NEAR Protocol.
Mintbase Co-Founders Nate Geier and Carolin Wend showcase the Mintbase NFT Platform and explain what utility can be expected of NTFs in the future.
Flux Protocol Co-Founder Peter Mitchell presents what the Flux application does and why Peter chose NEAR Protocol to develop on.
Viktor Bunin shares the work that has been done on the NEAR Validator Advisory Board, a group of professional validators that assist the NEAR development teams with monthly discussions, testing beta releases and new feature suggestions.

an
overview
of
the
project,
just
so
everybody's
on
the
same
page,
because
I
think
there
are
a
lot
of
people
who
are
watching
this,
who
maybe
have
some
familiarity,
but
not
a
ton
of
familiarity
as
far
as
like.

are
we
here
and
what
are
we
doing
so
just
to
kick
off
at
the
very
highest
level?
Why
are
we
here
so
so?
What
is
our
purpose?
And
so
the
purpose
statement
is
one
of
the
few
things
that
that
we've
had
almost
unanimous
agreement
across
across
the
whole
core
team.
As
far
as
you
know,
this,
this
really
fits
exactly
what
we're
doing
so.
Our
purpose
is
to
enable
community
driven
innovation
to
benefit
people
around
the
world,
and
we
usually
break
that
into
two
pieces.

first
piece
is
we're
here
to
help
people
make
stuff
which
really
means
helping
builders
make
stuff,
and
the
second
piece
is
to
help
make
sure
that
that
stuff
actually
makes
it
to
the
people
who
care
right,
who
the
people
who
need
it
and-
and
I
won't
go
too
deep
into
the
details
of
this.
But
this
is
something
that
we
keep
coming
back
to
again
and
again
and
again,
when
we're
trying
to
figure
out
is
what
we're
doing
the
right
thing.

as
far
as
what
is
near
I'll,
just
assume
that
you
may

may
not
have
a
full
level
of
familiarity
as
far
as
what
is
near
so
near
is
a
decentralized
platform
which
allows
developers
to
build
applications
from
shared
state
components
that
natively
interface
with
digital
value.
So
it's
built
on
top
of
a
blockchain.
So
there's
the
near
protocol,
which
is
actually
the
blockchain
and
then
there's
the
near
platform,
which
is
kind
of
everything,
including
the
blockchain,
and
so
the
blockchain
is
it's
public
and
permissionless.

proof-of-stake
it's
sharded,
and
then
we
have
all
the
stuff
on
top
of
it,
which
is
the
financial
layer
which
is
the
application
layer
and
all
the
tooling.
In
terms
of
what
that
looks
like.
If
you
look
on

right,
you
can
see
that
sort
of
the
base
of
everything,
of
course,
is
the
blockchain
in
the
middle
stack.

two
focuses:
we,
we
start
with
usability
and
back
that
up
with
scalability.
So
you
hear
a
lot
about
skill
ability
in
the
space
everybody's
really
conscious
of
what's
going
on
in
ethereum,
so
for
us
it's
never
been
enough
to
be
scalable,
you
have
to
be
scalable
and
usable.
So
a
lot
of
what
we've
been
doing
as
we
as
we
put
this
whole
platform
together.
Is
you
know?
Yes,
we
have
a
scalable
blockchain,
underneath
this
it's
10
000
times
cheaper
than
ethereum.

But
ultimately,
our
entire
reason
here
is
that
we
want
to
make
sure
that
blockchain
is
just
build
test.
Deploy
done
right.
That
is
that
easy,
which
is
something
that
you
really
don't
get
from
anything
else
in
the
space
and
it's
one
of
the
reasons
why
we
ultimately
originally
decided
to
build
this
and
so
the
near
foundation.
How
does
this?
How,
like
you
know?
Why
am
I
here,
the
near
foundation?

Is
it's
an
independent
nonprofit,
I'm
currently
in
switzerland,
we're
based
out
of
zug
and
basically
it's
sort
of
the
steward
of
the
project,
so
it
deals
with
coordination.
That
means
gathering
people
like
we
have
right
now
and
creating
space
for
the
community.
We
handle
working
with
the
the
funding
of
the
ecosystem.
So
that's
everything
from
grant
funding
to
a
number
of
different
initiatives
that
will
be
announced
over
the
upcoming
months.
We
do
advocacy,
which
is
about
all
about
empowering
local
communities,
so
that
could
be
you
if
you're
watching.

have
a
guild's
program
where
we
empower
community
leaders
to
be
leaders
and
a
whole
slew
of
different
things.
You
can
interface
with

or
nema.
If
you
have
questions
on
that

then
ultimately,
governance
is
is
really
providing

space
where
governance
can
occur
and
so
that
the
protocol
any
changes
to
the
protocol

roadmaps

things

has

reintroduce

project

the
apps

a
sense
of

next

where

milestone

achieved

we've

pretty
much
going

two
years
as
we
started
august
18

pretty
much
just
happened

september.
2020
is
actually
having
a
decentralized
network,
fully
operational
and
having
people
running
it
around
the
world.
So
you
can

and

current

and
where
they
are.
Where
are
they
in
the
world?

But
the
kind
of
core
point
is
pretty
much
network
is
on
their
shoulders
now,
and
this
really
kind
of
puts
us
into
like
the
kind
of
next
stage
right
so
somewhere
in
may
we
published
this
plan
right
of
rolling
out
near
protocol
mainnet,
and
it
was
in
three
stages
right
phase.
Zero
was
where
near
foundation
would
be
operating
nodes
and
pretty
much
running
network
in
proof
of
authority
mode.

So
that's
happened,
and
now
the
next
stage
is
when
we
enable
transfers
or
when,
when
community
enabled
transfers
and
the
network
is
fully
governed
and
kind
of
proven
out,
that
it
can
be
governed
by
validators
and
so
victor
later
will
introduce
a
little
bit
more
about
validators.
But
I
just
want
to
kind
of
point
out,
there's
a
like
underneath
right,
there's
a
voting
contract
that
the
way
it
operates
is
by
allowing
validators
to
cast
a
vote
with
their
stake,
and
so
the
this
this
voting
contract.

upgrade
protocol

turn
on
inflation
to
be
clear.
This
is
something
that
you
know
everybody
wants
and,
like
everybody
just
wants
to
make
sure
that
this
will

made

a
sustainable
way

saw
as
a
way
the
the
kind
of
the
votes
went
up
and
down
and
to
be
clear
right

ready

wait
until

final
stage
state

clear

state
grows

amount

stake
needed
will
be
going

what
happened
right?
One
of
the
things
that
did
not
happen
yet
is
actually
talking
distribution
and
there's
like
few
reasons
why
it's
been
taking
a
while
and
like
I
want
to
apologize
to
everyone,
who's
been
waiting
for
their
tokens
and
they
didn't
arrive
yet,
but
it
is
happening
and
actually
starting
this
week,
starting
today
we're
going
to
start
sending
out
tokens
to
all
the
people
who
who
have
them
and
like
to
be
clear
right
before
today.

nobody
has
tokens,
no,
not
team,
not
investors,
packers
financial
coin
list,
contributors
etc,
and
so
this
is
how
like
this
is
starting
to
happen
now,
and
this
is
big
part
why
some
of
the
validators
have
kind

removed.
Their
vote
is
because
actually
like,
yet
it's
not
a
community
vote
right.
It's
not
really
voting
visa
with
the
stake
of
their
delegators.

the
other
part
I
want
to
kind
of
answer-
and
this
has
been
a
frequent
question-
is
how
does
unlocks
and
transfers
work
right.
So
one
of
one
of
the
points
that
have
happened
is
the
like:
all
the
tokens
that
will
be
distributed
are
locked
and
they
are
locked
until
phase
two
is
voted
in
like
by
by
default,
which
also
means,
if,
if
there's
some
linear,
unlock
or
any
other
type
of
kind
of
a
locking
schedule
best
in
schedule,
it
starts
only
after
phase
two
is
being
voted
in.

only
caveat
is
for
the
coin
list
sale
right.
There
is
a
40
day
regulatory
window
after
sale
closes
which
closed
on
25th.
So,
whichever
come
later
right,
either
vote
for
phase
2
or
40
days
after
august
25th,

october
4th,

comes
later
right,
is,

the
kind
of
schedule
for
unlock
for
those
tokens.

a
quick
shout
out
to

have
built
a
really
nice
ui
to
showcase
all

validators

allowed
to
stick
to
them
through
near
wallet,
cli
ledger
and
they
planning
to
add
few

so
this
really
allows
to
like
users
who
may
be
not
familiar
with
this
command
line
right
to
go
out
and
stake
with
their
their
tokens
and
delegate
to
the
validators
all
right.

the
other
part
I
wanted
to
to
talk
through
is
some
few
of
the
things
that
are
upcoming
right.
So,
even
though
you
know
we
built
the
first
version,
it
is
running,
live
but
like
we're,
not
finished,
there's
a
lot
of
kind
of
improvements
and
also
a
lot
of
features
that
we
want
to
roll
out
and
so
and
it
kind
of
spans
across
both
protocol
and
tooling
right
kind
of
things
that
aren't
working
on
top.

on
the
protocol
level,
one
of
the
pretty
much
big
things
that
our
team
been
working
on
is
improving
test
infrastructure.
So
it's
been
a
pretty
kind
of
big
leverage
for
us
for
past,
like
three
four
months
as
we've
been
running,
stake,
wars
is
to
continue
improving
test
infrastructure,
pretty
much
capturing
whatever
have
happened
at
the
test.

other
part
is
improving
web
assembly
performance
kind
of
originally
right
near,
like
the
cult
design
of
near
is
to
create
a
linearly.
I
mean
to
create
a
scale-out
functionality
right
to
ability
to
scale
with
charts
instead
of
scale
single
chart
performance
at
the
same
time,
so
we
didn't
have,
we
haven't
actually
focused
on
improving
performance
of
the
single
chart
and
now
that
we,
you
know,
have
that
kind
of
basic
structure
out.

It's
been
kind
of
like
our
schedule.
Our
current
selection
process
is
very
fair
but
same
time.
It
it
limits,
sometimes
how
many
actual
nodes
we
can
have
a
network
based
on
stake,
so
we
want
to
change
it
to
always
bring
pretty

top

top
whatever
number
of
notes
and
but
still
pretty
much
have
a
fair
distribution
of
stake.

flip
side
of
this
is
tooling,
so
obviously
we
want
to
continue
improving
kind
of
tooling
for
developers
and
we
are
adding
staking
support
to
wallet,
there's

lot
of
work
on
kind
of
bringing
rainbow
bridge
to
mainnet.

right
now
it's
running
on
testnet.
We
have
a
hackathon
happening
right
now,
but
pretty
much
doing
a
lot
of
work
to
make
sure
it
is
fully
secure
and
ready
for
maintenance
and
adding
web

support
right
for
near
vm.

easily
plug
in
your
front
ends
into
nearby
cool.

experience

More
broadly,
we
set
out
to
build
the
best
developer
experience
in
blockchain,

want
to
emphasize
something
and
max
actually
said
it
in
the
chat.
That's
that's
sort
of
just
a
milestone.
That's
not
really
our
end
goal
here
and,
as
eric
said,
it's
not
really
our
mission,
it's
something
that
serves
our
mission,
but
our
baseline.

place
that
we're
heading
towards
for
improving
the
developers.
Experience
in
the
blockchain
ecosystem
overall
is
actually
creating
a
developer
experience.
That
beats
something
like
firebase
or
beats
something
like
amazon
web
services,
and
that

milestone

we
really
want
to
achieve.

timeline
other
than
just
being
the
best
in
blockchain.

nfts

things
that
are
people
doing

are
lots

artists

musicians

tokenizing
their
songs
on

of
the

even
tokenized

proof

them
to
people
who
ordered
her
her

this
is
just
like
one
example
that
beautifully
shows
that
it's

like
a
collectible

but
also
you

sound
packed
to
this

back

what

heck
we're

launch
process

two,
which
is
the
full
unrestricted
mainnet
launch,
there's
actually
a
two
star
two
two-part
process
to
it.

part
is
to
do

on-chain
vote
to
enable
token
transfers
and
so
that,

order
for
that
vote
to
pass,
it
requires
two-thirds
of
the
state
that
is
currently
online
to
be
voting
in
favor
of
it,

second
part
is
a
near
core
update
to
enable
inflationary
rewards,
and
so
at
that
point
transferred
alive.
Inflation
is
live.

first
step
is
the
vote,
and
that
vote
is
conducted
by
validators,
and
so
you
know
it's
fascinating,

if
you
look
at
most
protocol
launches
they're
done
in
a
little
bit
of
a
more
coordinated
way
where
the
team

more
leading
role,
and
sometimes
they
serve

primary
coordinators.

networks
themselves
in
a
very
centralized
way

decentralize

cheaper

and

why
blockchain
systems
are
slowing
down
if
near
were
now

the
same
situation
as
ethereum.

it
still
be
so
cheap

core

that's

built
on

scale
out

idea

capacity,
you
actually
add
more
nodes

running
stuff

internet
right
now
using
to
scale
up
servers
for
google
facebook
and
any
other
like
big
company,

has
users,
and
so
the
idea
is,

you

right
now
on
ethereum,
you

sales
applications

competing

pretty
much
one
computer's
capacity
and
on
near
you
