Alright, so starting the recording, so dev team meeting Tuesday April the 23rd, so let's go with it. So I've got a few things to report on several of the things I've been working on and let's see, if you wouldn't mind, please type in if you've got reports up on the front page there. So we can have that in the index and otherwise I'll get started.

So I've got a several updates: I'm working on the production engineering of the 3d printer, just continuing developments on the next duration, so some of the additions that are included right now since version 9 noticeable, basically 1902. Let's, let's go go! Look at that for a second I'm going to show my screen.

There we go okay, so sharing the scene, let's go to D 32 1902.

Okay, so you've got the screen, so some of the main updates here, my change since last time- was designing an extruder, that's kind of more dedicated for what we're doing with a large sensor can take a look at the details now since last time. What remains to be done on that right now, working on a couple of good updates. One is insulated heat, but why is that? That's four, so I like when the insulated heated here the reason for an insulated, that is, for energy conservation.

If you want to get into printing different things, energy efficiency must start to matter at a certain point. So if you do insulation on the bottom of the heat head, this is the conceptual design here. But the idea being insulating would mean that you're not just thrown all that heat into the area around the printer, getting kept more by the heated. That's so insulation from the bottom of this. You can de insulate the top, because that's where the print goes, but insulation from the bottom must save quite a bit.

I would I, don't know the exact numbers, but probably I mean it should be at least 50%, so he's to the factor up to energy savings. If you combine it with chamber, that's and close and you're not gonna be leaked all that heat away so that that when it heats, it only has to heat a little bit took it work.

So the idea being there got the simpad like a metal plaque, pei surface and a heater, so heater could go whatever we put there, but the idea for the insulation will be to use about two inches or 50 millimetres of rock wall. Let's see it seems kind of excessive, but I mean this will add up with.

If you go into larger printers and and doing larger prints, where you printing all day, I don't--hey efficiencies on that would be significantly because that is the main make all stop running a printer, the if the nozzle is say 40 knots or a he did. That is more like 200 watts or that's not the 8 inch level. It's larger it's more than that. It could be kilowatts, so you want to be wasting all that heat. So the case for heat in bed- that's got.

Memory loss our customers turn out outdoor, like environment, printing. uh You know somewhat hazardous materials, abs and the rest. They don't feel like just to have robot rod. Yeah super crucial, possibly.

Yeah, so definitely uh good music, especially if you know for open source ecology. We care a little bit about. Ecology is one of the aspects that that we worry about so yeah. That's. The thing here is just the insulation on the heat. Bettany can also enclose the entire printer for just better their heat efficiency idea. Here. Right now is the 3d print this container here. Don't think you two inches is that if you compare that to hosing, that's our 19 think our 19 is that it will leap about that. You don't worry about nothing, so so this part here to be plastic, because we're insulated from the heat and there's a little insulator insulator spacer on the hot light and I have a micro heater doing job here. So let's talk a little bit of that. I was thinking that at the larger scale we go to larger pads like one meter printer I, like that we run a very expensive and it possibly must not to be sourced anywhere hard to source.

So it's a good idea to start getting to micrometers on that way, but I looked at a little bit and a standard for what I people do is having um make that one here. In this example, we can look on wiki page, but specific example has where you have the fiberglass sleeve.

You wrap the wire around that it's a semi to reuse the lamb, because the lens the working less under our honor around five meters, or so ten fifteen or so so to shorten that up and what they would people usually do is wrap it on an inner inner Ivor glass sieve. So, there's a little bit of technique to this because we're getting into the idea that you've got high temperature elements that the heat can make connections loose. So you have to pay attention to that, but this this kind of thing would be scalable from small heater odds to large ones.

That some population is on that for the one that I'd like to go over to a dingy bed would give out to feed about three meters of nichrome gauge. 31 I was looking at a 30 gauge, actually and actually about the right thing for 120 volts, 500 watts. So 500 watts is not anything serious that a fast heating bed. That means we're gonna be getting the bit to heat up as quick as the here extruder here.

In other words, like a minute, instead of like 10 minutes, so it's basically you fire the printer up and and get going pretty quickly. There's a lot of times. It's you're waiting long time for the heating feel bad. The idea here is to use 500 watts. Typically, the heaters use either like hundred 200, maybe 300 standard 12, volt heaters that we have actually right now, I mean if all volts we're only getting about a hundred as far as I could have seen we're getting about 120 watts. Out of that, that's something like eight ounce, yeah.

An industrial side of things that what we're using here but nichrome, is a typical industrial here, I use inside of a injection molding process where they need to get a mould machine. This is a typical use case, or you know if you wanted a crossly here. Actually I'm is critical, because what we do it'll change, they need that heated up a stop. I mean that's, that's their big. You know they're their big dollars there so yeah and that's a good cross study at not you 110, and this also I think it's more on I!

Think it's definitely more is the this year. You know, for instance, a system that melts aluminum ingots in the Mutai aluminum process portraying Aluna with mara is to or smelting it it's a three thousand amps eyebolts suddenly got so really here. It's some push me amps. Through a wire we can get at a higher heat and you'll avoid larger gauges of wire, I, just kind of know that not go ahead under that so I'm kind of just speaking for memory it might be inaccurate, but that's something to consider yeah.

100 K volts get us, gets us more power with less current. So that's what that mean is that part of the idea of going 120 volts is mean. That means you can make the power supply much smaller.

Yeah, okay right! So if you look at the numbers, if we were to do this so so the best I found was actually Alta maker. They brag about their bed, getting heated up and like about the same time as their nozzle and I looked at that they have it. They use apparently at 5:41, heated bed. It's so I think after 20 it is. But if you were, if you were to do that off, 24 volts for 500 watts, that's 20, amps I mean at 12 volts. It would be pretty much impossible at like 40 amps.

That's pretty that's quite a thing, but I know yeah. Instead of running it after the power supply, we get it off the mains power. That means the power supply is so for the diversion 19.4 of d3d, which I'm doing right now and I can get this built by my first I'm.

Just doing all these upgrades on the control panel and all this, but the idea there's only a four amp 24 volt power supply- is sufficient, so into 24 volts, which also has the stepper motors move faster at higher speeds, so that little perhaps compared to current power supply, which is pretty amps at well, because we're also seeing the bed with it so that major stuff acacia non a power supply level.

The kind of supply that we need now is just this kind of tiny little board like this and I picked one here: nope, not the right length, so a tiny board, it's much smaller than the standard power supplies that we've been using.

3D printed control panel because I will occur, 3d print control panel. um Okay, it's in this document right here, so I'm gonna go into this. This is on a pic called 3d print, their control panel. So it's control panel with all the elements, but I want a three print, all that and that's I'm cutting this up and three cats so that I put in all holes for mounting all components right through a 3d print. So that's that's the reason for that. This is the former.

That's V 1902 little we've done Plexiglas drilled hole, so you have to basically measure and drill those holes. Well, let's bend it that's easier, so one that I'm. Actually this is this. This this one's, do power. Supply I, want to show you this one, but it's a tiny thing: it's a little board, but it puts out 24 volts for the steppers and everything else and also has a another outlet at 12 volts like one ion, so you can power. The arduino cos. Arduino can only take 12 volts, so this will have both here.

Like you see the blue terminals at the bottom, they have both 12 and 24 and that transformer that a yellow thing it's a 24 volt I am 12 volt. But this time thing is sufficient. All that we need right now.

Now not just a couple details: how do you fit so if we've got rated printers screen on your screen.

It's yeah, it's! It should be sharing still so so, if you do think the control panel gotta fit a little. These things you're the big soft state relay the feed bed. These are individual that the drivers have gone to ramps. Here's the ramps right there! Now, here's the power supply I just drew that up off the dimensions from Amazon or sings.

Now, if you use a printer with a 12-inch frame control panel in order to fit it would have to snap it like I want to look like a snapping thing, don't have to drill the frame anymore, just snap it in and hang it by basically like snap around the frame. So as you get to get on and off very easily that's to be ten inches. How do you determine he did that on an eight inch bag?

Well, one way to do it is stand it up vertically and do it do it across long wave, basically diagonally on the heated bed, so we can print up to gets us 1 point 4 times 8, so out, 12 inches of left, maybe print diagonally on an 8 inch bed. So we still burned that on an H printer, even though there the control path going to be like 10 inches. So that's so yeah pretty bit of control panel, but not all into again, so it should be all updated. Hopefully, I'll have it next time.

The last thing, while next last thing is such as it a conceptual design of the rubber optimized extruder. So what that means is that this is your separate motor agreen I want to do dual drive gears instead of one driving pull aside and drive from both sides of more force, and therefore you can use larger heater blocks, we were pushing it inlets of 3d printing now to do robert. That's that's the cooling heat sink and the heater block is right beneath that. So if you know, there's like if you kind of look at the deepest the path between drive years and the inner block is absolutely when they can be while allowing the heat scientist to so cool, that's, you know, you're, not melting, to fill them and right after derived years, just a concept. What they'd do is they'd all scream in their extruder, so now nozzles. Yes, they do screwin, but but the extrude they clamp. These clamping instead of thread for the reason it threats are not a good little contact. So on the outside. You try, keep the thing, that's going through the heater block, but it's threaded. So the heat contact not the best and we're cooling. If you threaten the contact to the cooling part is also nothing so I okay. So what about?

So that's one way to do it and we're a mule has done that up in mechana there so planning on doing that for the summer camp, building that but there's an easy way, actually an easy way to go. So you see this is quite sophisticated. That's the Halbach array style motor.

Of that looks really good, so the former one, the hologram or 3d printed, one is 80% ficient this one right here you can click on that and it's amazing. Some sort, basically be the Machine controller and like you've, something like that that probably raspberry power, probably in the being the main controller I'm gonna, have there's lots of machines and.
