Neil Gershenfeld runs an expert machine builder class at MIT, and I presented on OSE's work regarding the open source machine toolchains that we are developing. Here is an overview of the modules we use and how we develop as a collaborative effort that intends to scale to wide public participation once sufficient part libraries and design guides exist to enable anyone to get involved in meaningful design.
Sound cuts out at minute 33, sorry, will try to get the source from Neil.

Before you watch this - read this comment, thanks to Syncty7jk:
Before you bash him, watch this video carefully and listen. You will hear him offer his disclaimer. He clearly states he ( is new to welding and the welds will not be perfect. Rather the welds may be close to what any beginner might expect to see when starting out). Those looking for beautiful, expert, advanced welds, check out other channels. There are plenty of them on YouTube. However, for a brand new welder, this gives a good representation of what your early welds may look like...with a little bit of why. They can be fairly ugly and unimpressive. Have fun with it. Play with the machines settings and adjustments. With time and practice you will become more experienced, confident and your welds much cleaner. Welding is an acquired skill and there is a lot to learn. Very few people out there, including the critics, ever picked up a torch for the first time and laid perfect beads, so don't get discouraged.
