A
Finding
grants
for
cities
and
towns
in
need
hello
and
welcome
to
Comcast
newsmakers
I'm,
Candace,
Kelley
and
I'm
joined
today
by
Councilman
Derek
Greene.
He
is
from
Philadelphia
and
today
we're
going
to
be
talking
about
grants,
needs
and
actually
looking
for
them,
because
it's
a
very
hard
job
to
find
grants
and
you
have
found
that
being
at
this
league
has
been
really
good.
For
you
talk
to
me
a
little
bit
first
of
all
about
why
it
has
been
so
difficult
to
get
grants
out
there.
What's.
B
Really
challenging
to
find
grants
for
local
governments
and
so
having
this
new
resource
called
grant
finder
here
at
the
Pennsylvania
Municipal
League,
it's
really
a
godsend
because
it
really
gives
an
opportunity
to
reach
out
and
find
the
information
from
private
foundations,
corporations
or
the
federal
government
dollars
that
we
can
use
to
address
some
of
the
issues
in
our
local
communities.
So.
B
I
think
years
ago
we
had
more
resources
coming
to
local
municipalities
from
the
federal
or
the
Commonwealth.
That's
more
of
a
challenge
now,
because
both
at
the
federal
level
and
the
state
level,
they
have
very
pressing
financial
needs
until
having
a
resource
like
grant.
Finder
allows
us
to
look
and
identify
additional
resources
that
we
can
use
for
our
local
government
to
truly
try
to
address
some
of
our
issues.
So.
B
One
of
the
great
resources
that
depends
on
a
Municipal
League
does
provide
with
this
grant.
Finder
resource
is
actually
helping
municipalities
to
actually
write
a
grant.
Some
municipalities
because
they
may
be
smaller,
may
not
have
those
resources
on
their
local
staff.
So
what
the
PML
or
Penn's
a
municipal
will
do
with
working
with
grant
finder
give
you
those
resources
to
help
you
find
that
grant
and
also
break
that
grant
application.
So.
A
This
is
your
first
time
here,
yeah
and
I
know
that
certainly
your
written
grants
in
the
past.
What
are
some
of
the
stumbling
blocks
that
you
have
seen
or
humps
that
you
have
had
to
overcome
in
dealing
with
the
grants
that
you're
finally
happy
to
I
guess
finally,
maybe
hope
to
have
a
chance
to
overcome.
Well.
B
One
in
a
challenge
is
how
do
you
tailor
the
issue
you're,
trying
to
address
to
your
municipality?
To
that
great
I
mean
it's
trying
to
find
out
matching
process,
and
sometimes
that
can
be
challenging
so
working
with
people
who
are
professionals,
we've
done
grants
over
and
over
again
they
can
provide
those
resources
and
that
assistance
to
help
tailor
your
background.
The
issue
trying
to
address
to
that
grant
opportunity
so.
A
B
We're
looking
at
issues
like
homelessness,
some
of
our
public
safety
issues
and
a
lot
of
the
things
that
we're
trying
to
address
at
a
local
level,
really
trying
to
impact
our
quality
of
life,
where
we
have
a
very
challenging
budget
process,
and
we
only
have
so
many
dollars
in
our
general
fund.
So
that
any
way
we
can
partner
with
private
corporations
and
if
our
government
to
have
a
public-private
partnership
and
really
benefit
us
at
the
local
level.
I.
A
B
Trying
to
provide
dollars
for
our
office
emergency
shelter
services
to
help
us
provide
more
resources
to
help
people
who
may
become
homeless
because
of
opioid
addiction
or
behavioral
health
challenges.
These
are
really
challenging
things
to
really
address
to
getting
an
opportunity
to
work
with
private
corporations
or
the
federal
government
on
these
initiatives
really
helped
us
at
the
city
of
Philadelphia.
How.
