update

the

City
Council
with
respect
to
two
initiatives,
one
in
particular
being
undertaken
to
give
Torontonians
an
opportunity
to
provide
assistance
to
all
of
those
who
are
in
any
way
caught
up
in
the
tragic
events
of
this
past
Monday,
a
fund
that
is
known
as
the
Toronto
strong
fund
has
been
established
within
the
office
of
the
Toronto
foundation.
I.

They
sometimes
lack
the
administrative
and
accountability
mechanisms
to
make
sure
that
they
can
cope
with
what
is
often
a
very
sudden
and
substantial
amount
of
money.
The
funds
raised
will
be
directed
in
such
a
manner
as
to
assist
victims
and
their
families
through
organizations
which
can
do
so
and,
in
addition
to
assist
organizations
directly.

Some
of
the
people
that
Victim
Services
are
helping
today
fall
outside
of
the
established
network
of
the
healthcare
system
and
so
on,
and
there
wouldn't
normally
be
a
place
for
them
to
go
so
they're.
One
of
the
numbers
that's
been
given
to
people.
So
that's
an
example
of
the
kind
of
organization
that
subsists
largely
on
donations.
That
will
benefit
from
this
fund.
My
office
has
been
helping
in
the
initial
structuring
of
this,
and
indeed
in
the
putting
together
of
the
relationship
with
the
Toronto
foundation,
so
that
the
fundraising
efforts
would
have
this
kind
of
established.

people

working
on
refining
that
such

it's

very
important
that
people
have
the
right
spirit
and
the
right
approach,
as

evidenced

vigil

night
and
many
many
other
things,
but
also
some
tangible
support
is
something
I
think
that's
going
to
be
very
helpful
to
people
who
horribly
victimized
by
the
events
of
the
last
couple
of
days
beyond
events
like
last
night.
It's
also
important.

city

together
to
remember
the
innocent
lives
which
were
taken
from
us
and
to
support
those
who
were
injured
or
otherwise
affected
by
the
events
of
last
Monday
and
I.
Just
want
to
commend
to
you
the
efforts
that
have
been
undertaken
by
councillors,
Joma
havoc
and
John
Fillion,
and
they
are
in
the
midst
of
organizing
again,
there
have
been
informal
vigils
that
have
been
held,
that
it
was
felt
that
there
should
be
one
that
happens.

sure
something
happens
to
to
make
sure
we
have
a
place
where
we
can
commemorate
these
terrible
events
and
find
a
way
to
continue
to
heal.
So
those
are
things
that
I
thought
members
of
council
was
noble
and
we
will
make
sure
today

morning

you
individually
on
the
the
Toronto
strong
fund
and
the
counselors
will
make
sure
the
details
on
the
vigil
are
sent
to
you
once
they're
flushed
out
but

executive
committee
listed
on
the
agenda

council

consideration

In
light
of
the
day,
we
took
to
pause
and
remember
yesterday,
I'll
take
a
third
of
the
time
off.
That
I
would
ordinarily
speak
to
this
and
simply
say
that
we
had
a
busy.
You
know,
contrary
to
reports,
that
sort
of
said
somehow
we
were
winding
down
and
it
was
barely
worth
meeting.

This
report,
in
that
it
does
move
us
one
step
closer
to
construction
work
beyond
the
work,
that's
already
being
done
in
Scarborough,
on
preparing
the
tracks
for
both
our
ER
and
the
smart
track
service
that
will
run
on
it
at
six
to
ten
minute
peak
service
frequencies
at
six
new
stations
and
eight
existing
go
stations,
and
this
is
going
to
be
something
where
you
know
in
the
context
of
the
debate.
That
seems
to
go
on
whether
this
is
something
that's
significant
or
not.

Many
of
the
meetings
to
hear
people
talk
about
with
considerable,
with
considerable
excitement
at
the
same
time
as
they
are
able
to
raise
some
of
their
local
concerns
that
they
have
evoke
this.
And,
of
course,
it
should
be
noted
that
both
the
federal
and
provincial
governments
have
made
very
significant
contributions
to
the
moving
forward
of
this
project
and
my
interest
at
this
stage,
which
I
hope
is
shared
by
a
majority.

If
not
all,
councillors
is
to
move
it
ahead
and
get
on
with
it
and
keep
moving
forward,
because
it's
something
that
I
think
is
going
to
make
a
very
important
contribution.
The
second
item
is
the
woodbine
Gaming
report
and
I'm
heartened
by
the
fact
that
we
set
21
conditions
which
I
think
were
entirely
appropriate,
I'm
heartened
by
the
fact,
madam
Speaker,
that
they
have
they
have
been
addressed
and
I.

But
in
this
case,
if
there's
a
trade-off
as
it
were,
that
says
we
can
have
expanded
gaming
operations
there,
where
there
already
are
quite
a
few
that
have
to
do
with
both
horse-racing
and
other
forms
of
gaming,
and
in
return
for
that,
we
get
huge
numbers
of
jobs,
many
of
which
will
be
specifically
and
directly
allocated
to
local
people
in
a
circumstance
where
they
are
lacking
for
job
opportunities
and
there's
going
to
be
substantial
development.
That
goes
well
beyond
that
of
the
casino
itself.

And
finally,
I'll
just
say
that
the
report
also
the
executive
penny
report,
also
includes
the
important
subject
of
of
development
charges
and
it's
something
that's
fundamentally
important
to
our
ability
to
fund
the
capital.
That
goes
with
the
growth
that
is
contemplated
in
the
city
and
I
think
we
have
arrived
at
a
place
where
our
report
coming
from
our
professional
staff,
is
reasonable
report
that
allows
us
to
have
the
funds
necessary
to
do
a
good.
Many
of
those
important
capital
works,
so
I
look
forward
to
debating
all
these
items.

bring

Canada
Ontario
Toronto
Memorandum
of
Understanding
an
immigration
settlement.
This
became
a
discussion
at
committee.
We
were
a
little
concerned
that
there
are
no
elected
officials
from
the
city
of
Toronto
in
these
discussions.
It
is
all
civil
servants,
nothing
against
the
civil
servant
and
there
is
no
platform
to
discuss
some
of
the
funding
issues
with
pre
claim
refugees.

that

report
from
meeting

Economic
Development
Committee
listed
on
the
agenda
of
council
be
presented
for
consideration.
I
want
to
just
simply
touch
on
one
item
speaker
which
is
IDI
28.4,
that
is,
the
film
studio
capacity
replacement
and
future
growth.
I
want
to
congratulate
the
mayor.
The
mayor
led
a
mission
to
Los
Angeles
last
week,
which
I
joined
him
during
those
meetings.
There
were
discussions
around
the
fact
that
the
capacity
issue
here
in
Toronto
is
a
problem.

The
film
studio
heads
are
very
happy
with
respect
to
filming
and
television
work.
That's
being
done
here
in
Toronto,
they're,
very
happy
with
respect
to
the
30,000
men
and
women
that
are
actually
working
in
this
area.
However,
we
do
have
a
challenge,
and
that
challenge
is
that
we
don't
have
sufficient
capacity
in
order
to
create
more
jobs
and
more
filming
and
what
we
saw
last
year
from
our
results.

Our
numbers
went
down
by
about
400
million
dollars
and
the
reason
for
that
is
that
studios
are
being
utilized
seeing
being
utilized
for
a
longer
period
of
time.
So
the
availability
of
space
is
a
huge
issue.
The
report
does
seek
to
talk
around
how
we
can
implement
more
studio
facilities
across
the
city.
Clearly,
the
Portland's
area,
the
waterfront
area,
is
an
area
the
East
you
know,
Bay
Area
is
an
area
of
concentration.

However,
we
want
to
see
more
opportunities
and
we're
looking
at
how
create
tÃo
and
other
agencies
actually
can
work
with
the
private
sector
in
order
to
ensure
that
we
can
maintain
this
very
vital
and
very
important
industry
in
Toronto.

members
to
turn
their
attention
when
they're
reading
this
this

to
a
report
that's

commissioned

and

the
recommendations

of
my

members,

committee.

exciting
things,

first
I'll

it

the
report
from

parks
and
Environment
Committee
listed
on
the
agenda

council

consideration

lot
of
exciting
things
going
on

the
committee
as
usual
and
I'm
going
to
challenge
you
linguistically
to
learn
these
words.
We
did
some
part
of
our
Truth
and
Reconciliation
indigenous
placemaking
and
the
lowered
on
parkland.
We
are
renaming
the
parklands
wash
katana
sh2
as
indigenous
placemaking
in
our
part,
and
to
honor
our
the
people
who
were
there
before
us.

We've
also
done
some
biodiesel
work,
which
you
will
see
so
all
about
sustainability,
and
our
last
thing
is
very
important.
If
you
like
to
eat,
we
have
adapted
adopted
these
cities
and
you're
going
to
adopt
it.
Hopefully,
the
city's
first
pollinator
strategy,
which
is
immensely
important
for
food
security
and
urban
agriculture,
and
with
that
we
have
launched.

units
that
are
in

developments,

hundred
units,
the
other
three,
are
a
total
of
two
thousand

fifty
units

seven
buildings,
ranging
from
17
to
49
stories
and
zero,
affordable
housing
units.

blue
band
recycling
program.

last
two

three
weeks,
raising
awareness
on
the
reuse
and
recycle
ability
of
clothing
and
textile
materials,

is
one

most
challenging
issues,

us

gives
our
general
manager
and
solid
waste
management
staff.

flexibility
to
address
ongoing
contamination
issues
and
financial
pressures
and
ensure
the
interest
of
the
City

Toronto
and
taxpayers
are
protected.

must

to
mitigate
these
increasing
pressures
on
our
recycling
program

the
April
17th
meeting
that
we
will
not

input

not
have
information
about
these
senior
positions
prior
to
decisions

made
and
these
appointments

forward.

report

some
form
during
this
council

South

southernmost

tracks

addition,
there's

to
be
a
track
removed
and

additional
or
a
chain,
a
modified
wide
platform
which
will
accommodate
a
much

volume
of
trains
into

trains
to
45

50
trains

hour.

that
to

deal
with

passenger
flow

pedestrian

the

the
development

coming
on

guys
went

built
a
Yonge
