Arlington County Parks and Recreation celebrated the reopening of the newly renovated Jennie Dean Park, an integral part of the Green Valley community for more than 75 years. The 2022 program will include music, dance and spoken word to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy. Spoken Word artist Kim B. Miller will share original works. Kimberly Gordon will sing three selections, including Lift Every Voice and Sing – also known as the Black national anthem. Dancer Kamali Hill will perform to Freedom by the Golden Gospel Singers and Mahalia Jackson's version of Down by the River Side and Malachi Alexander will dance to It Ain't Over by Maurette Brown Clark.

The new Lubber Run Community Center is now open!
Lubber Run offers programs for youth, adults and seniors including a pre-school, senior center, gymnasium, and fitness center and multi-purpose rooms for recreation programming and community use. The Center features an indoor track, multiuse court for volleyball, pickleball and basketball.

Arlington’s tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. honors his life and legacy through live music, dance and spoken word. The 2018 tribute event, titled “Martin Luther King, Jr: The Man and the Mission,” was held on Sunday, January 14, 5-6:30 p.m. at Wakefield High School. The program featured musical and dance talent from Duke Ellington School of the Arts, spoken word artist Kim B. Miller, Arlington Public Schools students and more.
Arlington honored Dr. King's legacy by participating in a Countywide Day of Service on his holiday. Almost 700 residents registered for volunteer opportunities or training.
