The Office of Public Service and Community Outreach hosted a discussion on ways to activate open space in the City of Boston.

Mayor Walsh joined Toys for Tots Coordinator Jonathan Chan and Comanding Officer of the 1st Battalion 25th Marines Brian Lander to kickoff the organization's 71st year of service at the Innovation and Design Center in the Seaport. Toys for Tots collects and delivers toys to needy families with the help of church groups, Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Boston Housing Authority along with other organizations throughout the city.

Macy's Downtown Crossing store held it's 5th annual Coat Drive. Macy's employees helped over 200 Boston Public Schools students find a coat to keep them warm this winter.

Join in as the Mayor Walsh, the Kroc Center, and the Salvation Army of MA team up to serve approximately 4,000 Greater Boston area students in-need with a backpack full of supplies and a positive event experience to gear them up for a successful school year.

Children from public schools across Boston get fresh coats for the winter at the annual Macy's Coat Drive, held at their flagship store in Downtown Crossing. Mayor Walsh is joined by Bruins players Zdeno Chara and Kevin Miller to provide coats to 150 lucky students.

Thanks to volunteer efforts, the warehouse at 21 Drydock Ave. in the Seaport is filled with toys each year to prepare for Toys for Tots' annual toy drive. Thousands of children across Boston will get presents this holiday season thanks to the Toys for Tots campaign. The program, created by the U.S. Marine Corps, gave out toys to over 90,000 children in the Boston area last year. "You know they're doing their job because you never hear about them." City workers and those serving the public are honored and recognized for excellence in public leadership at the annual Shattuck Awards, held at the Seaport Hotel in South Boston.

Mayor Walsh, Superintendent Tommy Chang, The Salvation Army, and Boston Bruins affiliates distribute back-to-school supplies to over 4,000 Boston area families at the 6th Annual Back-Pack-A-Thon at TD Garden.

Now in its 6th year, the Back-Pack-A-Thon distributes over 24,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to under served students in Boston. In addition to school materials, the event offers games, obstacles, and puzzles to emphasize the importance of having both a healthy mind and body.

TD Garden's philanthropic arm, Garden Neighborhood Charities, is teaming up with the The Salvation Army and the City of Boston for the 6th consecutive year to host the school-season 'home-opener' for 4,000 Boston-area students and their families. In addition to food and games, the event provides students with a backpack full of school supplies.
